How to disable/hidden private browsing function, plus making safe for kids

I want to stop the kids going on to dodgy sites and hiding their tracks. Can I the disable private browsing history ? Is there anything else I could consider doing ? I am using Mac OS X and an iMAC.
Any comments welcome.

Are you registered with google? You can review your google search history and that includes searches and sites visited from each search even if you have private browsing on! Safari may not save the search but google saves it on line.

You must have Xcode installed to do it. 1.6GB download through App Store but it is free.

  • My kids use firefox on my computer. Is it possible to disable the private browsing feature so they can not go on and use it ?

I want the computer to keep a history of all the site they have searched, but can not know for sure if they turn on/off the private browsing function. Is it possible to disable the private browsing function and put a lock / password on it ?
    Thanks,

Even if it was possible to remove or disable "Private Browsing" then that still won't make it impossible to delete private data like visited websites (history) or cache or cookies.<br />
There are a lot of ways to clear such data, either via [[Clear Recent History]] or directly by deleting the History in the Library or sidebar.<br />
Private Browsing makes it easier because all data is kept in memory and nothing is saved to disk, so nothing needs to be removed.<br />

If you want to see which sites have been visited then you should look at others means outside Firefox like a router or firewall with a password protected logging feature that can't be bypassed or a program like Wireshark.

  • Is there any way to disable or not allow the private browsing function on Firefox for Mac?

I have 3 young preteen/teenage sons who use our family iMac as their computer. Even though I have a filter on the router to prevent them from getting into trouble, I occasionally check their browsing history just to see when/where they are browsing. On a couple of instances, there has been no history shown for certain websites I know they have visited (per the router report), so I am wondering whether they have activated private browsing to cover their tracks, and if there is parental control function to disable the Private Browsing feature in Firefox.

Thanks Rick for your Quick replay,
As my consultant told me , They will get lot of approval messages so we have to make only one inbox message for approval.
When they select Yes or No , if agreement is not locked by others will get approved or rejected no problem.
But if agreement is locked , it will get checked only after they hit approve or reject so i will be displaying a message to them that this agreement is locked Hit Cancel button and do the Task later .
so the approver will comeback at later at 20 or 30 mins and will execute the workitem which on double clicking will execute the already selected ( approve or reject ) status change only .
This is how i  suggested them and they said okay.
Only problem they are saying  with LOOP is they have to refresh the SBWP inbox when ever they met with lock of agreement .
If you still feel using loop and sending again is the best way i will try to ask them again and see.
    Thanks,
    Brahmam

  • How can I completely remove and/or disable the Private Browsing feature in 3.6?

I want to run my browser without the Private Browsing feature even usable. Is there a way to not only remove the feature, but also to remove it from the Tools menu?

There is no built-in way to remove or disable the feature. You can hide the menu options but the keyboard shortcut to start private browsing will still work. Even with the menu options hidden it is still possible to delete browsing history. If you want to keep track of all sites visited you will need an external option. If this is to keep track of children using the internet, one option is the [http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filter and Parental Control Software].

    How can I fix it?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • I want to remove the Private Browsing function as a Parental Control step. How?

I don't want my child hiding things from me. How do I block or remove the Private Browsing functionality?

You wouldn't be able to do it as long as the user has access to [[Profile folder]], lack of which makes Firefox not able to work - the user would be able to delete any data. Even prior to private browsing feature, history was clear-able in ''Tools'' - '' Clear recent history'' window.
To have more control, you can block some websites/ports in the router or firewall, the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4351/ FoxFilter] add-on can be helpful (but again, the users can simply un-install it).

  • How can I completely remove Private Browsing functionality within Firefox 4 Beta?

I wish to remove the Private Browsing functionality within Firefox 4 Beta. I know there's a way to remove it from the toolbar but I want a complete inaccessibility of the function entirely.
There *was* a solution for this within Firefox 3 that I had applied but the new update doesn't keep that as a single file within the \Components folder.
I realize that this involves some real functionality change, but I really would appreciate a nice hack.

Did you figure out how to remove this feature? I need help too!

  • Is there a way to delete (not disable) "Private Browsing" function so it isn't available to my teenagers?

    # Question
Is there a way to delete (not disable) "Private Browsing" function so it isn't available to my teenagers?

It is strongly discouraged to delete nsPrivateBrowsingService.js as it can cause Firefox to malfunction.

  • How can I remove private browsing as an option on the Firefox Menu? My kids use this computer and I don't want them to be able to private browse.

I want to remove the Firefox menu option for Private Browsing because my kids and teenagers use this computer. How can I do that? Private Browsing cannot be an option for my children. If I cannot remove it, is my only option to remove Firefox altogether?

This is new. Read carefully the section "About this Add-on". Not 100%, but there is no real way to totally take PB out of Firefox; that is also the case for other browsers that have a similar feature, as far as I know:

don't want user to have the option to turn on private browsing. can i disable start private browsing - mac 10.5.8, firefox 3.6.11

Sorry, the developers didn't provide a switch to turn Private Browsing off. Another Firefox user has come up with a way to do it, but it requires some skill to save and install the necessary code. <br />

  • Can I disable just private browsing on my iPhone?

I need to know if it's possible to disable the private browsing feature in Safari on my iPhone without disabling the browser itself.

    Hi!
In iOS 7 on the iPhone or ipad:
One way to do it is by adding a restriction on adult content.  Click settings, restrictions (make a password), them scroll down to "websites" under allowed content (below the list of things to allow or not allow), then select "limit adult content."  Poof... No more private browsing option in safari.
