How to disable hotkeys & action keys?

Hi, I have a Pavilion dv6 3006tx.
I have all these strange "hotkeys" on my laptop doing non-standard things. It's pretty confusing, Alt-F4 doesn't work anymore, for instance, since the F4 key is now a monitor key. How can i make it so all the F1-F12 keys just be F1-F12 keys by default, and I can use the other function by using the fn toggle?
I would also like to disable these so called "action keys". I keep pressing the calculator key when I intend to crouch in a game (ctrl key).

We donu2019t have a provision for disable the tab key in B1.
If you are assigning user defined value in any field, magnifying class will be displaying.
You should give a KT to end user that donu2019t use tab key, instead of tab key please click on magnifying class in those filed.

How to disable one F key without disabling the rest

OK, this is the situation:
I don't want to disable all the keys because i use them often.
I've already tried FunctionFlip, but it doesn't seem to work in Final Cut Pro (and the reason I need to disable one of the keys is primarily because I need it for a FCP shortcut)
is there another way to disable only one key?
OR - If I were to disable all F keys, how do I reassign some of them back to their default mac function? does anyone know the names of the menu commands for Volume up and down and for mute?

How to disable mouse actions for Spotlight?

Spotlight causes me problems, because it is activated, when the middle button of my three-button mouse is pressed. Many X11 and Windows applications have some functions for the middle button and then Spotlight grabs it and nothing else works as it should. Hence, I would like to disable all such mouse functions in Spotlight and other mouse bindings and use mouse only as a pointing device, as it originally was intended to. How can this be done - I cannot find any such hotkeys etc. defined in System Preferences.

ArNo,
the central button can be programmed to do anything from System preferences ->Keyboard and Mouse-> Mouse. Use the drop down box to select "none" if you dont want the middle button to do anything.
If you use a lot of x11 apps that require a different set of actions than the normal mouse environment, I would consider creating a separate user account and turn on fast user switching in system preferences->accounts.
Then you can customize the user environment (mouse actions, etc) to be utilized differently for each unique operating environment.

Using PhotoShop CS4, How to disable 'Universal Shortcut Keys'?

Hello all.
I discovered in the latest OS, I am not able to customize my Action Shortcut Keys inside Adobe Photoshop CS4 because the "Universal Shortcut Keys" were "in the way"...; I used to able to do this with CS3 and Tiger.
Let me illustrate:
- In the new OS and the new keyboards: F1 is the Brightness Adjustment (Dimmer), and F4 is Dashboard (Launch)
- In the older OS and CS3, I was able to create within, Action Shortcut Keys so that F1 I can create a Layer Mask and F4 I can delete a layer
- In the new environment, whenever I press the F keys, the 'Universal Shortcuts' take priority.
*How do I disable these Universal Shortcuts so that I can create customize shortcut keys?*

Thanks for the reply! Yeap this is what I am looking for, but unfortunately, or rather, I wish I can still have control over the volume keys somehow, because we work in an open environment, and sometimes we use headphones, sometimes we unplug to let our supervisor see and hear the work (by the way I am in the motion graphics business) So we constantly have to control the volume of the speakers.
Well, I'll just have to put the Sound Control on the Menu Bar

Please let me know if their is any way to disable or prevent Refreshing of a page by providing javascript scope in JSP.
I want to disable the Refresh action in IE-6.0 window .
Don't want to open my application in second window with disabled the Menu bar etc. Or by capturing the F5 key event.

But as i had written in my problem , I don't want to open my application in new window after user open default IE 6.0 window . As it creates Window switching overhead .
Second thing i want to disble or prevent use of Refresh to avoid resubmitting of my form after it has been send to application server .
One more thing while a JSP page is refreshed , In-built IE 6.0 Alert message to Re-try or Cancel .Is thier anyway to capture it or prevent it in Javascript.

How to disable "special" f-key function on Apple Wireless Keyboard in Windows 7

Hi. I dual-boot my iMac using an Apple Wireless Keyboard. In Mac OS's "Keyboard" system preference pane, I've chosen to treat the F-keys as actual F-keys, and not the "special" function keys, such as volume control and screen brightness. This however does not carry over to the Windows environment.
I cannot find an option to do this on the Windows 7 side. I've tried SharpKeys (popular Windows freeware key-mapping registry editor), however the program doesn't recognize the key being pushed (unless I hold the "Fn" key, at which point, it sees it as the F# key).
To reiterate, I'd like to know how to use the F1 through F12 keys as F1-F12 in Windows 7, without having to use the "Fn" key.

ADF 10G : How to disable CTRL + Combination key ?

I developed ADF application using ADF 10.1.3 and have the requirement to prevent user from press the ctrl+ key ( like ctrl + p ) .
Firstly , I used JavaScript to disable this function and it worked on IE and Chrome but not on Firefox.
Actually, it work on firefox only the first time that user press ctrl key but when user press it again without reloading page , it is not worked.
This is JavaScript that I used

I tried to follow the instruction that you give me but result still be the same.
I think the problem is not involve with javaScript because I can detect CTRL at the first time but the problem will occur in 2 cases.
1 . It will occurs when user press ctrl button for the second time after we close alert box .
2. when the page still shows alert message and user tried to press ctrl button ( ctrl+n and it worked)
So, I think Firefox have some background process that monitor user input or have some thing .

How to disable the F4 Key Event?

I have written my own FocusManager which allows me to traverse through disabled components. If a user presses the F4 key while the focus is in a disabled JComboBox, the popup becomes activated. Is there any way deactivate the F4 keystroke?
I have tried:
event.consume();
combobox.setPopupVisible(false);
combobox.hidePopup();
I also read that F4 is a low-level event maintained by Windows. Is this true? Is there no alternative?

I have tried all available solutions:
1. hidePopup()
2. setPopupVisible(false)
3. unregistering the F4 key event
4. catching the F4 key event and snubbing it
I have had no luck with the above solutions. It leads me to believe that F4 key is registered under the windows environment and it is a low-level event.

Hi,
I know how to turn off action keys from BIOS. What i want to is just disable the help action of the F1key. I basically want it o have no fuction (so that it would perform the assigned function for the game) like the f5 key on my Envy 15t. I use the f1 key in games, since every time i press it it opens up the help, i want to disable it. However, i do not want to disable the rest and want to be able use them without having to press the FN key.
I am not sure if there is a solution to this problem but i would still love to hear some suggestions.

If just for Windows XP: you should be able to disable the help stuff by disabling the Help and Support service. (start->type services.msc->press enter).
And for Windows 7 (Vista could be the same):

How to disable windows 8 f key shortcuts

I am using windows 8 and HP Pavilion laptop.
I am playing games that require using f keys sometimes, but these f keys do different things in the desktop or whatsoever.
F1 opens up some kind of windows help bar, f2 makes the screen darker and f3 lighter.
I searched HP support forums and found someone else having the same problem. I followed the instructions and went to disable my action keys in system configurations. I saved the new settings and rebooted laptop, but still those fkeys work without using fn button.
What to do ?

You state after disabling the action keys in the BIOS the F keys still work without having to use the FN key along with them, is that correct? I will try to assist you with this.

The RPD hierarchies themselves have no security attributes on them. So your left with a workaround or two. First one that springs to mind :
Create the report in question save this as 'Manager' report.
Create the report in question, disable drilling on the column in question, save this as 'Reporter' report.
Deploy both reports to the dashboard in seperate sections and use the section permissions (against the Webgroups those users exist in) to determine which section is displayed to which user.
Maybe more options will come up from other users, but this one is a start.
