How to disable internal superdrive

Hello.
The superdrive in my mid 2011 imac 27 is dead (won't accept disk) so I wonder if there is a reasonably easy way to disable it so my system doesn't see it anymore.

I see, if  you need Boot Camp assistance you should post in the Boot Camp forums. That is where the MS Windows and Boot Camp gurus are located.

  • How to disable International Data Roaming

Today I connected to wireless data service from my Samsung Tab from India unintentionally and without being aware of the extremely high cost of such usage.  I got an email alert and estimated charges of $ 81.92 for merely 3.53 MB.   More expensive than GOLD !!!
I was trying to send Verizon an email to disable INTERNATIONAL DATA ACCESS & ROAMING for my Tablet BUT cannot find any Verizon Support email address to contact them.  THATS A SHAME.
I also signed to my account but there is no feature to disable international roaming.
I am so scarred even to turn on my tab for the fear that the device may automatically try to connect with service providers here in India and incur big charges for me.

    Hi Melissa,
I don't know how the device/service started communicating via 3G when the icon on the Samsung Galaxy Tab was showing as Wi-Fi connection.  I am having this device/service from Verizon for over 3 years now & been using a lot & had no similar incident when using in the US.
For the fear of unintended 3G connectivity & the charges there-off, I have completely stopped the usage of my Samsung Tab in India.  It has been TURNED OFF since 10/09/13.    I will check to see if I can find Deny Data Roaming on my Samsung Galaxy Device.  I did not find any such feature on my Verizon web account.
As, I will be back in the US by 10/28/13 -  it does not make much sense to change plans for such a short time.  However,  I would like to know if the charges can be discounted or partially waived on a one time basis and to be considered in the $ 25 / 100 MB international data package instead of $ 81.92 charged at this time.
    Thank you.

  • How to disable internal TNEF format for mail message?

    for exchange 2007/2010
    my configuration is as follows:
    1. i've added a RoutingAgent, that catches every message that its subject contains
a specific word, then - re-routes it into a dummy domain (dummy.com for example).
    2. i've added SendConnector that catches dummy.com in the address space, and
routes it to a smtp listener.
If i send mails from outlook client to another user in the domain, it seems
that outlook wraps the smtp request in TNEF format (where the body and attachments are replaced with winmail.dat file).
If i add a recipient which is outside of the exchange domain, the smtp request is sent well in a regular MIME format.
can i somehow change the internal handling to simple MIME format? i need to
relay it to an external IP...
i tried to disable it in "Remote transport" - didnt work, because i'm routing
    those internal mails.
    thanks!

  • How to disable internal battery without a display?

The display on my T440s is dead.  I would like to remove the hard drive before sending the laptop in.  The user guide says to disable the internal battery before moving the hard drive - but this requires access to the BIOS configuration, which cannot be done on an external monitor.
Is it essential to disable the internal battery before removing the SSD?  If so, how can I do this?
    Thanks

  • How to disable internal storage browsing

When you plug in a password protected iPhone to a Windows computer, you are prompted whether you want to view/copy files. Even if you disable autoplay, you can still navigate to the device and access all files. This should only be possible if the device is unlocked. How can one disable this security hole?

Can you provide some more information. I have a 4S and Windows 7 system. I cannot get into any of my information on the phone from my computer except what shows up in iTunes. I cannot see any files or notes that I have. How are you able to do this?

  • External display - how to disable internal display or to move dock

    Hi,
I'm using my MacBookPro with my external monitor. Since my external 24" Monitor is big enough, I don't want to use my integrate monitor. At least I'd like to move the dock as well as the top bar to the external monitor, because my MacBookPro is not in front of me.
    Any ideas?

    You have several options.
First, and simplest, is just video mirroring, where the Mac sends the same signal to both the internal LCD and the external monitor. Since both screens are showing the same image, it doesn't matter which one you consider 'primary' - they both are.
Secondly you can designate which screen is primary using the Displays Preferences. Under the 'Arrangement' tab you can set the relative position of each screen (e.g. LCD to the left/right of the monitor) by dragging the screens around. You'll also notice that one screen has a mini menu-bar visible. This denotes the 'primary' screen that handles the menu bar and dock. Dragging this menu bar to the other monitor will change the primary screen to that monitor and achieve what you want.

  • SaaS Sharepoint, ADFS claims and internal AD-CA: How to disable CRL check in Sharepoint?

    Hi all,
We have an external SaaS provider with a Sharepoint 2010 server. In our AD, there is an ADFS server providing ADFS claims to Sharepoint and thus giving SSO functionality. For the ADFS service and its token-signing and encrypting, there is one certificate
drawn from an internal AD Enterprise CA server.
The problem is that, when the company user opens the Sharepoint URL, it is extreamly slow to open, however it does eventualy open. The SaaS provider has indicated its an issue with the CRL checking. I know on other Microsoft products there are ways to disable
CRL checking but haven't found such information for sharepoint.
We have provided the CRL files and the provider has added these and for as long as they are valid things work as expected. However the CRL then expires and we are back to square one.
    Can anyone help?
I have found this question has been asked before here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/431bae5c-c502-4723-9de7-663abd46658e/saas-sharepoint-adfs-claims-and-internal-adca-how-to-disable-crl-check-in-sharepoint?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
Unfortunately the answer doesn't satisfy my situation. Also not sure I agree that self signed certificates should be used and it's quite a topic for debate in ADFS circles... However in my situation we don't have the option to change ADFS to use self signed
certificates as the ADFS service is in use with 12+ other service providers all who have no issue using the Token Signing Certificate even though they cant access the CRL either.
    Thanks for your help,
    James

    Hi,
As I understand, you want to disable CRL check in SharePoint.
    There are four workarounds:
    1. Give your servers an outbound Internet connection
    2. Edit the hosts file at “%SYSTEMROOT%\\System32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts” to fool the CRL check into thinking your local machine is crl.microsoft.com by pointing it at 127.0.0.1 (localhost).
    3. Edit the registry to disable CRL checking by setting the State DWORD to 146944 decimal (SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\WinTrust\\Trust Providers\\Software Publishing for both HKEY_USERS\\.DEFAULT and HKEY_CURRENT_USER) PowerShell.
    4. Edit the machine.configs and disable it there.
The article gives you the details about the four workaround.

  • How To Disable Superdrive?

    Hi,
My PB's superdrive stopped accepting disks awhile ago and then after a few weeks, started to make a scary whirring/screeching noise when switched on-it sounds like its spinning around crazily. What i wanted to know is, can i just disable the superdrive-or take it offline or something like that? I don't need the drive to work, as i now have a new iMac, I just want the laptop for portable email/browsing etc.
Also, now the superdrive doesn't work on PB, is there a way to download the upcoming Leopard DVD from my iMac (once in my possesion), to my PB?
    Regards,
    Cos

Hi, cos. There is no software-only method of disabling your damaged SuperDrive — you would have to open the Powerbook and physically remove or disconnect it. I'm not sure whether or not there is room inside the PB for the drive's cable to be present but not connected.
If "the upcoming Leopard DVD from my iMac" refers to a Leopard DVD that will come with an iMac you've ordered or will soon be ordering, that disc won't work on a Powerbook. It will be specific to the iMac and its Intel processor, and won't boot or install on a Powerbook with its PowerPC processor.

  • Disable internal modem

Got an iMac 333 with a defective internal modem. Am now using an external modem but needed to upgrade OS from 8.6 to 9.2. Upgrade went fine and the modem worked. My friend called me and now has the same problem...the OS wants to dial-out using the old modem. We've disabled the extenstion to the old modem but the problem still exists.
I'm a pc tech but learning Mac stuff and would like to know how to disable the internal modem, that or pull the modem if it is in an expansion slot. And if by pulling the old modem will that force the OS to look at the external modem?
BTW- the OS sees the external modem
    Thanks for your help

Open up the Extension Manager Control Panels & make sure every modem extension is disabled especially:
    XMODEM Tool
    Apple Modem Tool
    iMac Modem Extension
    Modem Scripts
    Restart your computer.
If the above does not work, hopefully something in the following article will:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106871 Mac OS 8, Mac OS 9: Troubleshooting a Dial-Up/PPP Internet Connection.
If your computer system info is correct, then I strongly suggest that you purchase more RAM. As much as you can afford. 64mb is not enough to run OS 9.x sufficiently.

Try to click on the speaker icon in the lower right and then click on the mixer button on the bottom and see if you can turn it on there.  You can also go into control panel, click on sound and look in the recording tab.

  • New Internal Superdrive not recognised unless disc inserted at boot.

I've just replaced my non-working internal Superdrive in my 2009 Mac Mini / 10.8.4. The old one wouldn't reliably read all discs, even after cleaning the lense, so I picked up a Toshiba TS-T633PN for a low price as a replacement.
This isn't a standard Apple issue drive, but I thought what the heck, it's SATA so what could go wrong? Hmm, it seems it will only be recognised by OS X if there's a disc in it at boot time. Otherwise it either shows up incorrectly in System Information, or not at all, and either way if I insert a disc nothing shows up in Finder.
If I boot with a disc present (any disc - data or video)  then it works fine except that it's not always reliable when it comes to ejecting discs. Sometimes when I eject it, the disc unmounts but doesn't pop out of the drive. I have to run drutil eject from Terminal to get it to eject.
When eject fails I can see the following in /var/log/system.log:
Jun 23 13:42:17 macmini kernel[0]: SerialATAPI device reconfiguration did not complete successfully.  (failedCommandInfo = 0x1)
Before I go and try it in an external USB enclosure, has anybody got any suggestions as to how I can make this work reliably?

From what i can tell this drive, though a SATA and the same size, is not compatible with Mac. The hardware works but the firmware is not made for/compatible with OS X. This can certainly cause the behavior you described. You can look for tools to flash the drive's firmware but as it is new i'd return the drive, get a refund and purchase a compatible model. macsales.com has them as do many other sites, just make sure it mentions Mac compatibility. Personally, depending on your needs of course, i'd put the money towards an external Blu Ray player/burner. If storing large amounts of data and/or blu ray movies are a concern then it is well worth the few extra bucks.

  • Need help in Disabling Internal On-Board Microphone

I have searched every forum and everyplace about how to disable the internal on board mic that is on my Toshiba A355-S6925 (Vista 64bit) but can not come up with a resolutuon.  I use my laptop for sound recording music and this is a real pain in the butt.   I see everyone talking about setting up an external mic and really don't want that to be the answer.  I just want to turn the mic off completely cause its interfering with my recording.  Its disabled in Real Audio Manager/device manager and everywhere possible but that doesn't seem to have any affect on the internal mic?
Hopefully I do not get answers like "Duct Tape it" etc
    Thanks
    Morby

Well if sound recorder doesn't record the mic, then it sounds like Audacity and Sound Forge are over ridding the Windows settings.  So check those program settings.
One user posted this for Audicity in another forum -
If you're using the most recent beta of Audacity, go to Edit / Preferences / Audio I/O. There you'll see a combined dialogue box for Playback and Recording. Under recording, if you see an option called "Stereo Mix", select it. (On mine it's called Windows DirectSound: Stereo Mix.)
    This signature left intentionally blank.

  • How to disable query-string evaluation in OSB proxy service?

OSB 10.3 proxy service evaluates the query String ?WSDL (are there more such parameters?). Usually the assigned WSDL will be returned this way.
I want to use OSB as simple HTTP-proxy. There is no WSDL assigned. The proxy service should simply pass all parameters to the request pipeline. This works fine for parameters in general but not for WSDL. This produces the exception below.
Does anyone have an idea how to disable this query string evaluation within OSB proxy service?
    Thanks

    Daniel,
http://hostServer/contextpath?WSDL is common way of retrieving WSDL for service whcih supports one. The case you are suggesting is if the service does not have any wsdl associated, then it is good practice that caller be notified appropriately which is being done by OSB. OSB is indicating that the service for which we have used ?wsdl has no wsdl associated.
I guess there is no way we can disable this feature for un-typed OSB services (services which doesn't have wsdl associated). Any reason why would we don't want exception when '?wsdl' is used?

  • How to disable extra visit to portal server

    hi Experts,
I am using wcp11.1.1.8, in a customized page template with portal builder, I used an EL expression to generate link like this:
I clicked this link, using httpwatch to monitor network traffic, found IE visited portal server twice: first visit is a "Get" method for ""http://localhost/webcenter/portal/Portal1/page1?_adf.ctrl-state=1dvjebskda_596"", result code is 200, the second visit is a "Post" method for "http://localhost/webcenter/faces/oracle/webcenter/page/scopedMD/s64679523_e5d0_454a_952a_55128e607e07/Page7.jspx?wc.contextURL=/spaces/Portal1&_adf.ctrl-state=1dvjebskda_596", result code is 200.
If I paste this url "http://localhost/webcenter/portal/Portal1/page1?_adf.ctrl-state=1dvjebskda_596" to ie addressing  field, and press return, httpwatch showed me there is no "second visit" for "/faces/oracle/webcenter/page/scopedMD/s64679523_e5d0_454a_952a_55128e607e07/Page7".
Seems the "second visit" is auto generated by portal framework, how to disable it?
    Best regards

    Hi.
Sorry about the delay, I was too busy and I only could do a small testing.
I was checking quickly how WebCenter Portal (formerly Spaces) works with links compared to Framework Portal.
The responsible of the "possible twice visit" is the following ViewHandler: oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.internal.view.navigation.NavigationViewHandler in spaces-model.web.jar (method getPageTargetViewId, getActionURL and also isRedirectRequired).
First of all, try to check that you're Pages have the "Redirect" checkbox unchecked (or you're navigation-model links). In case of being checked it will be 2 Requests.
    There are following behaviors:
Using <af:commandLink> just will navigate using PPR and doing a POST.
Using <af:goLink> using goLinkPrettyUrl there are many behavior:
Already wc.contextURL is present in the URL and then it will call just one GET.
If not is present, getActionURL it will add it in order to maintain the correctly the relationship Page - Space. It will generate you're behavior.
I'm trying to understand why sometimes just call one GET and why sometimes generate a GET,POST,GET behavior.
Anyway if it's urgent open a SR to Oracle.
I think that If you try to add to your goLinkPrettyUrl the wc.contextURL parameter it just should do a visit once time (one GET). Try it if you have free time .
    I hope this information helps.
    Regards.
