How to Disable iTunes-iPhone Podcast Sync?

I recently reformatted my computer and was re-syncing my phone and had to sync it with the new library.
I have it so only unplayed episodes are synced, and recently the Podcast app or iTunes or whatever has been a total mess. It will remove the episode from the phone, but will show the removed episodes on the phone, sometimes as that I still have to listen to it. I have to manually delete it then, which gets really annoying.
This is not the big issue.
The problem is this terribleness led me to delete all of my podcasts on my phone by swiping left and removing the podcast itself, not the episodes, thinking I'd be able to resync it cleanly on my phone. Instead, when I started looking at podcasts on iTunes, I noticed it had removed all of the podcasts and, when I checked the folder that holds my podcasts all of them were gone.
So I'm done with letting iTunes manage anything regarding my podcasts. This is just stupid, and thankfully I backed up iTunes because previously I had iTunes randomly remove podcasts.
I don't know who decided this was a good idea, but they need to be fired as it's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. WHY WOULD YOU DELETE ANYTHING ON MY COMPUTER?
Anyway, how do I turn this off? I hate it and can't take it any more. I just want to manually sync from now on without automatic syncing, like I've done for years.

I think I may have found out how to do it. Turns out there's a setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Store that says, "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings."
Needless to say, this setting creates complete nightmares for people who want functioning podcasts on the iPhone without using some other app.

  • How do I turn off podcast syncing between my iPhone and iTunes on my MacBook Pro?

    Hi all.
So yeah... updated my iTunes today (along with the rest of the Mavericks OS X Update Version 10.9.3) and now all the podcasts I subscribe to on my iPhone have shown up in the Podcasts section of iTunes.
Very nice of you, Apple, but I don't want them on my computer. I don't listen to them on my computer. I listen to them on my iPhone. So I'd love to find out how to turn off this mystery syncing if anyone has any insight.
    Many thanks in advance!
    J

In iTunes on the desktop open the preferences & look in the 'Store tab'.
There is a checkbox for sync podcast subscriptions, disable that & see if it helps.
It isn't clear if this syncing is part of iTunes & iOS syncing (why isnt it under the device section of iTunes?), iCloud or via an app store account.
It looks like it is a feature of the App store - but I don't recollect ever signing into the store in the podcasts app?!
If the above helps submit feedback to Apple since this seems less than clear…

  • How to disable iTunes Match on a computer other than the one with my main library?

I have iTunes installed on a home MacBook for syncing music, photos etc and iTunes on a work PC to sync calendars and contacts.  iTunes Match is enabled on both. However, I'd like to disable it on my work PC as it slows down my iTunes when I open it up.  When I click "Disable iTunes Match" in the store link in iTunes on my work PC, it appears to want to disable the service universally.  Is this only disabling it on this one device, or universally?  Thanks.

Thanks... took over an hour to turn off the iTunes Match, but it did not effect my home iTunes.

  • How to get my iPhone to sync with a new computer after the home computer crashes?

My iPhone was synced with my work computer. That computer crashed now I am not able to get any other computer to recognize my iPhone, so it is not fully functional, as I can't add music, download large apps, etc. Please help!

Nothing happens, I only get the pop up window about transferring pics, so it obviously recognizes the plug-in, but in iTunes, nothing happens, my iPhione doesn't appear on the left side, so I can't snyc it:(

  • How to disable iTunes 12 on Windows 7 startup

Wondering how to prevent itunes from launching automatically when I startup my system. Every answer I've seen refers to unchecking the program from msconfig. I've done that and it does not work.
Every other solution presumes a device, such as an ipod or ipad is connected. No device is connected.
Every other solution involves using CCleaner, which does the same as msconfig but with a GUI.
Any solutions other than the ones above?

See AutoRuns for a tool that should give you full control over what runs at start up.
I've seen hints that some Bluetooth controller software may be responsible for firing iTunes. If your keyboard has media control keys the whatever driver services that could also be responsible.
Suffice it to say iTunes doesn't install as a start-up item so whatever is triggering it is some local configuration issue rather iTunes itself.
If you have iOS devices that are set to sync wirelessly, and iTunes is set to launch when they are connected, it is just conceivable that simply having the iOS devices active when you reboot would be enough to launch iTunes, but I don't think that is the case.

  • How to set iTunes not to sync the apps I have on my iPad to my iPhone?

How can I do this. I always plug my phone in and iTunes transfer the purchased apps to mynlibrary, same with my iPad. Today I wanted to add some songs to both iPhone and iPad so I added them to iTunes library then I synced the iPad with no problem next I pluged in my iPhone and it started syncing apps, and at the top I saw A"installing 123kids" which is a kids app for my daughter on my iPad, I do not want this on my iPhone. Please help I'm confused.

No, I mean synchronize all the apps that I bought/dowloaded from the App store (in my laptop) on to my iphone. Like my Kindle app or ever note. Do I have to dowload them one by one from the App store on my phone or can they be synchronized/added through Icloud or some how?

  • A fix for the iTunes -- iPhone indefinite sync bug

Moderators feel free to move this to the appropriate place. I was having this problem for a while now. I'd connect my iphone and it would sync forever. I'd have to manually abort the sync. This led to stuff never actually syncing, and music disappearing from my iPhone. I did some Googling and came up with some solutions, and I tried one myself and it worked perfectly.
    1. In iTunes, go to preferences, then go to Devices. Make sure the box is checked, that says "Prevent iPhones, iPods, and iPads from syncing automatically. Press OK.
    2. If your iDevice is already connected, and already "infinitely syncing" you will have to manually stop the sync at this time. If not, connect your iDevice.
    3. Still in iTunes, click on your device in the left-hand column, and go to the Music tab.
    4. Uncheck the big box at the top that says "Sync Music"
    5. Click the "Apply" button in the lower right-hand corner.
    6. WAIT PATIENTLY. This will take a VERY long time. It WILL look like it is still hanging indefinitely, but I promise you, it is not. It took about 30 minutes for me, and the entire time it said "Finishing Sync." I thought it wasn't even going to work, but eventually, I noticed it started updating Podcasts, and a bunch of other stuff, presumably accumulated changes over the duration of this bug. I think at this time it is also file-checking your entire iDevice, presumably because of all those times you had to manually interrupt the synchronization.
    7. After the iPhone fully completes its sync, Re-check the "Sync Music" box, and click Apply again. For best results, just pick your 1 or 2 favorite playlists to sync right now, then later tonight you can sync back your entire library, and leave it to sync as you watch TV or eat dinnner or what not... don't force yourself to sit through syncing thousands of songs if you don't have to, lol.
It is working for me after following these steps. I have NOT tried setting iTunes back to automatic syncs (undoing Step #1). I'd imagine that doing so will re-trigger the bug. You're welcome to try, and I will maybe try tonight when I am free, but for now, I'm actually late for class, but I really wanted to share this because I know this is a pretty big issue, especially if you love music like I do.

Backup, restore as a new device, restore your backup.

  • IPhoto/iTunes/iPhone not sync

    Hi there,
I have a problem syncing iPhone with iPhoto; my albums, events and faces are correctly displayed both in iPhoto and in iTunes, but not all pics where sync on iPhone.
I tried to set "put all in iPhone" but not work.
I tried to delete iPod cache, no way.
It never sync faces or all events, just one or 2 events...
    Thank you in advance.

Try downloading the current iTunes version and re-install it over the existing. No need to delete iTunes on your computer first.

  • Bt hub 3, itunes, iphone, ipad syncing problems - not seen

Im using the new infinity BT hub 3 and there are now issues with syncing the iphone, ipad and itunes.  iTunes does not see them as devices consistantly and when it does (looking for "device"), it says it is not available to sync (not found on the network) and promply they disappear from the upper right hand corner.  BT say it's an itunes issue.
I have tried changing from WPA to WEP but this doesn't work, nor does plugging the computer into the ethernet.
The devices show as being on the network by the router, but are not available to sync in itunes
What do we think people? Any ideas to fix this?

As a fallback you could try using the usb cable rather than wifi.
However to you main problem with the wifi. I to have BT infinity and not only was I having issues with not seeing the devices but also a slow speed of streaming to Apple TV3.
Turns out my issue was interference on the wifi from other wifi networks on the same channel.
Mountain Lion has a new wifi utility details here

Found thayt there seemed to be 3 or 4 houses on channel 6, Changed mine to channel 11, via the BT hub admin page. When everyting settled down again plugged in my devices via USB made sure they were wifi sync enabled and now all works as it should.
If you do not run mountain lion then look for istumbler on google, does the same job and its free

  • How to disable itunes store when transferring files to ipod shuffle

    Hi,
I just started using my ipod shuffle a few days ago, using itunes on mac OS 10.4. To try it out, I used a handful of podcasts downloaded from the itunes store.
My problem is that whenever I try to move a file from my computer to my ipod shuffle, itunes seems to want to open up the itunes store (as declared by itunes in the top oval window) instead of showing the list of files on my shuffle. However, I've already disabled the itunes store through parental controls. My internet at home is rather slow at the moment, and it's annoying to have to close the blank "store" window each time I load something onto my ipod shuffle. Is there a way to disable the itunes store, specifically when I'm moving files to my ipod shuffle (in addition to using the parental controls)?

Provided the files were properly tagged then iTunes should pick up the data when the files are imported into the library. The main problem is usually any files in .wav format.
See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You seem to be most of the way there already but there are a couple of scripts mentioned near the end which you could use to recover ratings & playlists.

  • Bad iTunes/iPod podcast sync

I've noticed iTunes 7 handles podcasts particularly poorly. I've got it set to copy the last 3 episodes of a selection of podcasts to my 2G iPod. Some of them don't appear in the "podcasts" icon under the iPod in iTunes, nor do they appear in the "podcasts" playlist when using the iPod itself. They also don't show up as "Music" when viewed through iTunes, although they can be found by album or artist when using the iPod itself. Among the annoying side-effects are the fact that these "lost" podcasts are re-copied every time I sync the iPod, and there appears to be no straightforward way to delete them.
I dropped two episodes of a podcast that I don't subscribe to (ie, I just picked up two ad hoc episodes from the iTunes store) and they were treated the same way - they're on the iPod, but not on its "podcasts" playlist, and totally invisible to iTunes.

I figured out part of the problem - I had the sync set to copy "last 3 unplayed episodes", rather than "last 3 episodes".
Still, I see no way to get ad hoc episodes of podcasts (ie, from series I don't subscribe to) from the iTMS and into an iPod.
