How to disable iTunes suggestions in Safari?

I find most suggestions in Safari useful (like Wikipedia) but since I never buy music on iTunes, how can I turn off music suggestions?

  • How to disable iTunes Match on a computer other than the one with my main library?

    I have iTunes installed on a home MacBook for syncing music, photos etc and iTunes on a work PC to sync calendars and contacts.  iTunes Match is enabled on both. However, I'd like to disable it on my work PC as it slows down my iTunes when I open it up.  When I click "Disable iTunes Match" in the store link in iTunes on my work PC, it appears to want to disable the service universally.  Is this only disabling it on this one device, or universally?  Thanks.

    Thanks... took over an hour to turn off the iTunes Match, but it did not effect my home iTunes.

    Is there an easy way to disable private browsing in Safari 6?

    It's not quite clear what you mean. Private browsing is off by default. If you want to make private browsing impossible for another user, look into Parental Controls.

  • How to disable iTunes 12 on Windows 7 startup

    Wondering how to prevent itunes from launching automatically when I startup my system. Every answer I've seen refers to unchecking the program from msconfig. I've done that and it does not work.
    Every other solution presumes a device, such as an ipod or ipad is connected. No device is connected.
    Every other solution involves using CCleaner, which does the same as msconfig but with a GUI.
    Any solutions other than the ones above?

    See AutoRuns for a tool that should give you full control over what runs at start up.
    I've seen hints that some Bluetooth controller software may be responsible for firing iTunes. If your keyboard has media control keys the whatever driver services that could also be responsible.
    Suffice it to say iTunes doesn't install as a start-up item so whatever is triggering it is some local configuration issue rather iTunes itself.
    If you have iOS devices that are set to sync wirelessly, and iTunes is set to launch when they are connected, it is just conceivable that simply having the iOS devices active when you reboot would be enough to launch iTunes, but I don't think that is the case.

  • How to disable adobe reader in safari

    I am aware there is this thread on basically the same problem How can I regain Preview as my default PDF browser in Safari?.
    However my circumstances are a bit different.
    One of my content vendors uses FileOpen to lock their PDFs and that is why I even bothered to install adobe (v10.1.4). Thru the install process I was careful not to have adobe become the default viewer by checking all the relevant boxes I saw.
    When I go to Finder and doubleclick on a PDF, they are still opened by Preview. Right click->Get Info does show Preview as default viewer.
    However in Safari, Adobe has taken over despite in Adobe->Preferences->display pdf in browser is not only unchecked but grayed out. But even though grayed out, right below that checkbox shows Adobe Reader.app is the browser view and I see no way of changing it.
    In Library/Internet Plug-ins there are NO pdf plug ins. In fact I have only a single one (picasa).
    I am not aware how to get to Username/Library/Internet Plug-ins as the reference thread talks about.
    Whatever the solution, I still need adobe working on my machine otherwise I cannot view the content from that one vendor.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    thanks, Linc. interesting suggestion. It shows the following unfortunately. The background: I initially installed adobe reader 11.0.01 but discovered the production version of FileOpen does not work with it. So I uninstalled it and installed 10.1.4 instead. But looks like some parts of it lingers.

  • How to disable Itunes music stores auto account login on startup

    Since I upgraded iTunes I've had a account log in screen asking me to sign in with my iTunes Store ID and password every-time I launch iTunes. Is there anyway to disable it? My wake-up- software stopped to work and im late to work everyday after this "upgrade".
    Yes there is, and Apple themselves tells you how.
    ( ps. Apple, - please let it be a choice the next time, in preference.. )
    Apples - support answer.
    - I have some steps for you to try that should take care of this issue. Please try these steps below:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Open your iTunes folder (usually found in the Music folder in your Home folder).
    3. Double click the iTunes Music folder.
    4. Inside you should find a folder called Downloads.
    5. In this folder you will see a file "list.plist". Drag this file to your desktop.
    6. Restart iTunes and hopefully iTunes will not ask for your password.
    Please let me know if this works or not. Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer, and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Jessica

    John Hammer1 is partially right. There are three locations for startup items
    </System/Library/StartupItems>
    </Library/StartupItems>
    <~/Library/StartupItems>
    (In theory, the first should be reserved exclusively for items bundled with Mac OS X.)
    However, startup items have been deprecated since Tiger. Apple advises that only software which requires Panther compatibility should use them. The correct mechanism in Tiger and later is launchd. Therefore, if you don't find anything in the StartupItems folders, what you need to look for is a .plist file corresponding to your programme, which could be in
    <~/Library/LaunchAgents>
    </Library/LaunchAgents>
    </Library/LaunchDaemons>
    </System/Library/LaunchDaemons>
    </System/Library/LaunchAgents>
    (See "Creating Launch Daemons and Agents" in "Daemons and Services Programming Guide" in Apple's Developer library.)

  • How to disable app suggestions?

    My devices keep offering it to me to download and install whenever I open the app store to do updates.
    I do not want the apple beats app. I do not listen to music on my phone or ipad. The app would just take up space I could use for photos or other things. It wastes my storage space. These notices are really annoying. How do I tell the app store I do not want this silly app and to stop offering it to me?

  • How to Disable iTunes helper

    I don't need my iPod to auto-start iTunes when I plug it in at work. I'm trying to streamline my system a bit and want to disable the iTunes helper process. I removed it from my Login items via the Accounts control panel but it keeps re-appearing. Any thoughts?

    what of my suggestion ?
    Well, I'm not really concerned about it opening iTunes when I attach my iPod.
    I want to axe it all together as it is always running in the background.
    maybe if you completely uninstall iTunes that'll fix you up.
    however, from your profile i gather you have plenty of computing power so i really don't understand. on my MBP, in activity monitor, iTunes helper uses 3.4 MB real memory, on my PB G4 a mere 2.4 MB.
    so, what gives ?
    Do I need a reason to want to get rid of unnecessary process? As I mentioned, I'm streamlining. It is just another think running that is sapping some (though very little) processing power from my system. And I've read of other people's experiences where it has caused problems with system stability. Granted, they are a small minority, but if it is something I don't need, and could maybe be a future issue, then why not remove it. I looked around my system and spotlight doesn't turn up the application file, just its plist.
    I use iTunes so no, that won't fix me up. Thanks for your feedback though.

  • How to disable itunes store when transferring files to ipod shuffle

    Hi,
    I just started using my ipod shuffle a few days ago, using itunes on mac OS 10.4. To try it out, I used a handful of podcasts downloaded from the itunes store.
    My problem is that whenever I try to move a file from my computer to my ipod shuffle, itunes seems to want to open up the itunes store (as declared by itunes in the top oval window) instead of showing the list of files on my shuffle. However, I've already disabled the itunes store through parental controls. My internet at home is rather slow at the moment, and it's annoying to have to close the blank "store" window each time I load something onto my ipod shuffle. Is there a way to disable the itunes store, specifically when I'm moving files to my ipod shuffle (in addition to using the parental controls)?

    Provided the files were properly tagged then iTunes should pick up the data when the files are imported into the library. The main problem is usually any files in .wav format.
    See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You seem to be most of the way there already but there are a couple of scripts mentioned near the end which you could use to recover ratings & playlists.

  • How to disable frequently visited in Safari 8?

    This sounds a little weird, but is there a way to seperately turn off the "Frequently Visited" section of the bookmarks in Safari 8 (where you click the URL bar).
    I still want my bookmarks to show up, but have that god-awful "Frequently Visited" to be gone.
    I do not want to completely disable this and bring back the bookmarks bar.
    If this is not possible, that is a really stupid flaw from Apple, and I hope that they fix that in the next update.
    Thanks

    You can drag the icones out.

  • How to Disable iTunes-iPhone Podcast Sync?

    I recently reformatted my computer and was re-syncing my phone and had to sync it with the new library.
    I have it so only unplayed episodes are synced, and recently the Podcast app or iTunes or whatever has been a total mess. It will remove the episode from the phone, but will show the removed episodes on the phone, sometimes as that I still have to listen to it. I have to manually delete it then, which gets really annoying.
    This is not the big issue.
    The problem is this terribleness led me to delete all of my podcasts on my phone by swiping left and removing the podcast itself, not the episodes, thinking I'd be able to resync it cleanly on my phone. Instead, when I started looking at podcasts on iTunes, I noticed it had removed all of the podcasts and, when I checked the folder that holds my podcasts all of them were gone.
    So I'm done with letting iTunes manage anything regarding my podcasts. This is just stupid, and thankfully I backed up iTunes because previously I had iTunes randomly remove podcasts.
    I don't know who decided this was a good idea, but they need to be fired as it's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. WHY WOULD YOU DELETE ANYTHING ON MY COMPUTER?
    Anyway, how do I turn this off? I hate it and can't take it any more. I just want to manually sync from now on without automatic syncing, like I've done for years.

    I think I may have found out how to do it. Turns out there's a setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Store that says, "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings."
    Needless to say, this setting creates complete nightmares for people who want functioning podcasts on the iPhone without using some other app.

  • Please tell me how to disable Top Hits in Safari

    iPhone 4S. Just upgraded to iOS8. I noticed Top Hits popping up when I start a search. Never saw it before. Very annoying. I've tried turning everything off under settings>safari>search. I also tried turning on "safari" in iCloud and then "merge" followed by turning Safari off again. No luck. Please help

    iTunes has in the past always played all visible checked tracks starting with the first track that you play. Unless I'm mistaken it still works that way, but you can use the Up Next control to clear down the list and/or edit it if you choose. I'm not sure what you think is different in this respect, or at least what you think you can no longer do.

  • How to disable tab bar in Safari on iOS 5

    I can't find the setting for this. Is it hidden somewhere?

    Pure88 wrote:
    The only problem with safari under iOS 5 is when you have 9 tabs opened (which is often the case for me) you don't find anymore which is the right tab when you come back, while under iOS 4 it was far more easier thanks to the picture of the page.
    Fair point, but it obviously now makes sense keeping fewer pages open. This is now easy to do as you can just add them to 'Reading List' so you can return to them later and since the Reading List syncs to your other devices they are available anywhere you might be browsing which HAS to be a plus.
    I realise that the Reading List is just a list of bookmarks and doesn't actually store the page itself, whereas an open tab does - in theory. On many, many occasions I have switched to an open page (now Tab) and had to wait while the page was retrieved again. I don't understand why it does this since the page had already been downloaded and I hadn't asked it to 'redraw'. Also, it doesn't always occur. So why does it refetch some pages and not others? Anyway, if it is re-fetching the page, that is no different from just opening a bookmark and hence in that case storing something in the Reading List would be no different to keeping the page apparently open in another screen.
    On the whole I do prefer the new Safari and from the reviews I've read, it seems that most others do also. In any case, there's no point wishing for the old behaviour as it's surely gone for good. Better to embrace the new way of working and learn to love that, so when they change to something else in iOS 6, you'll have something to complain about.
