How to disable nlockmgr on Solaris 8

How can I check to see if nlockmgr (rpc service) is running on Solaris 8??
How to correctly disable nlockmgr (lockd tcp/udp 4045) service under Solaris 8 (patched through the latest patch cluster)
Thanks

Hi
From much personal experence I can assure you that if you have a Solaris 8 server
and it meets the hardware requirements specified by Oracle (i.e. RAM, CPU, DISK)
Then you dont need to patch the O/S. Oracle 8.1.7 will install.
However I strongly recommend that you patch the Oracle installation to 8.1.7.4
afterwards.
If I can be of any help please feel free to mail me at the address below. I'll try and keep an eye on this track though.
Best regards
Ade

    hey everybody,

thank you so much, for your help

Can you please let me know how to disable firewall on Solaris 9.

  • How to disable role password in Solaris 11

Roles can only be assumed by logged in users. That is the definition of a role. Therefore role authentication is to some extent double authentication. The user has already authenticated as himself when he logged in and the sysadmin has enough trust in him to grant him a certain role. So why would he need to authenticate to the role? Isn't that double authentication ? Anyway I can see why that makes sense on a role like 'root' but on other more normal types of roles ? Really?
Anyway that is not what this posting is about. It is about me not being able to figure out how to disable role password in Oracle 11.
In Solaris 10 I would do:
    <pre>passwd -r files -d myrole</pre>
That would set the myrole account to a no password account and that would be enough to disable it.
In Solaris 11 I cannot make this work. I suspect this is because of the introduction of the roleauth attribute but I've tried all possible combinations:
    <pre>passwd -r files -d myrole</pre>
    <pre>rolemod -K roleauth=user myrole</pre>
    or
    <pre>passwd -r files -d myrole</pre>
    <pre>rolemod -K roleauth=role myrole</pre>
Can't make any of these work.
    Pls help.

    Hello MrMonza,
I do not completely understand what you are looking for. Perhaps it would help if you explained, for which purpose you want to use your new role.
In short, a role is simply a user account, to which you cannot login directly. As to every user account, rights are assigned to each role. And as for every user account, you have to provide a password for it.
If you want to switch to a role without password, this is nearly the same as extending the rights of your account.
This is possible by assigning additional profiles to it via /etc/user_attr. Privileged commands, written by you, and connected to these profiles, can be defined in /etc/security/exec_attr.d/local-entries. These commands can be called via pfexec, see pfexec(1), which grants privileges (e.g. uid=0) for just the call.
See also user_attr(4), prof_attr(4), exec_attr(4) and the "SEE ALSO" sections in there.
Profiles can be chosen from the predefined profiles in /etc/security/prof_attr.d, or they can be self-assembled from these profiles and authorizations from /etc/security/auth_attr.d.
New profiles should be stored in /etc/security/prof_attr.d/local-entries.

  • How to disable auto_home and individual datasets on Solaris 11 11/11

    Good morning,
There's a lot of changes in Solaris 11 that I like, but two of the ones I dislike, I just can't seem to get rid of them.
I'd like to disable auto_home, permanently. I don't want users' home directories to be mapped on /home .
I've read that all I needed was to remove all mentions of home in /etc/auto_home and/or /etc/auto_master (can't recall which one of the 2 files as I removed all mentions, 'f course...) .
Once done, I read I simply needed to run automount once (automount -v) .
No go. The next user I've created was mapped in /etc/auto_home, and /etc/password modified accordingly.
Moreover, each new account is created as its own individual ZFS dataset. I understand the advantages of this, as each user can create his own snapshots, etc. But I don't need that, and I certainly won't need a zfs list output that scrolls on many pages !
How can I disable this ? I just tested it, 2 seconds ago :
    [08:43:10|jfg@oslo:/opt] sudo useradd -u 9999 -c 'TEST' -d /export/home/TEST -m -s /bin/bash test
    80 blocks
    [08:45:59|jfg@oslo:/opt] grep TEST /etc/passwd ; grep TEST /etc/auto_* ; zfs list | grep TEST
    test:x:9999:10:TEST:/home/test:/bin/bash
    /etc/auto_home:test localhost:/export/home/TEST
    rpool/homes/oslo/test 35K 21.1G 35K /export/home/TEST
<EDIT> : forgot to mention, I destroyed the original dataset for the home directories, rpool/export/home, and created a new one, rpool/homes/zoneName/ as multiple zones accounts will be "hosted" in this dataset.
    Thanks for helping,
    Regards,

    Thanks Alan,
I remember awhile back reading about this on OpenSolaris, but it just came back to mind as you mentioned it.
Still, other than svcadm disable autofs, I can't see how to disable only auto_home.
And I'm still stuck with my individual zfs datasets that I hate hoooo so much ! :-)
    Thanks,

  • Disabling Multicast in Solaris 10

    Hi,
I have been searching the internet all morning trying to figure out how to disable solaris 10 multicast. I have no need for it. The best information I could find was to modify the script /lib/svc/method/net-svc and comment out the adding of a route point for multicast near the end of the script.
I thought that hand modifying the methods of SMF was a big no no in solaris 10. Is there a better way to disable multicast?
For instance, if I do an ifconfig -a I see that all of my intefaces have the MULTICAST flag set. Is there a way in ifconfig to disable that flag?
I have seen people put ifconfig options into their /etc/hostname.interface file. I think if I can find the correct ficonfig option I can disable the multicast flag during system boot and that should disable multicast.
    Any comments/suggestions would be welcome.
    Eric

Now that I have done more research I guess I do not have to turn off the multicasting.
This problem appeared because during snoop sessions I see MANY of the following messages:
    ? -> (multicast) ETHER Type = 022C ... 53 bytes
I assumed that one of my machines was doing the multicast. However, I shut down all but one machine and then I removed the multicast route from the route table and the messages still appear. I think that either my cisco switch or cisco router is doing the multicast.
So I guess I will not turn off the multicast on the machines.
Does it make sense that the router and/or switch is sending out the multicasts?

  • Disable IPv6 in Solaris 11

I work for a regulated bank in the UK and we do not use IPv6. IPv6 is disabled on all our switches.
Despite this control we have previously been told by external auditors that we must also disable IPv6 on our servers. No problem in Solaris 10 and lower.
Can anyone tell me a simple way to do this in Solaris 11? there doesn't seem to be a way to only plumb IPv4 interfaces.
I found an unreliable source on the internet telling me to hack the file /etc/ipadm/ipadm.conf but this means I need to reboot after plumbing interfaces, something that we haven't had to do for how many years? There must be a sensible way to do this...???

Do not under any circumstances unless directed by Oracle Support as part of fixing a bug modify the ipadm.conf file directly.
You can't disable IPv6 in Solaris 10 either, what you can do is not have any IPv6 addresses active on plumbed interfaces.
You can do the same in Solaris 11. However you can't disable the IPv6 loopback address on Solaris 11 if you have zones
and want to be able to do 'pkg update' using system repostitory from inside the zone.
To remove the IPv6 address on net0 do something like this:
    # ipadm delete-addr net0/v6addr

  • Disable ipv6 in solaris 11 express (2010.11)

Is there a way to disable ipv6 in Solaris 11 Express?
I can unlplumb inet6 interfaces but it created again after reboot.
    # ifconfig v1 inet6 unplumb
    # ifconfig lo0 inet6 unplumb
    # ipadm show-if
    IFNAME STATE CURRENT PERSISTENT
    lo0 ok -m-v------4- ---
    v1 ok bm--------4- -46
Is there a way to get that change persistent?
And what is there right way to get rid of ndpd daemon?
Whenever I disable svc:/network/routing/ndp:default it gets back online by 'routeadm -u' after reboot.

I know how to create addresses. I have no problem with ip4.
Addresses created and persistent across reboot.
The only problem that there is also bunch of ipv6 interfaces brought up at reboot and NDP daemon.
    For now I found workaround:
    1. make lo0 controlled by ipadm:
    # ipadm delete-if lo0
    # ipadm create-if lo0
    # ipadm create-addr -T static -a 127.0.0.1/8 lo0/v4
    2. Remove lines with "_family=26" from /etc/ipadm/ipadm.conf
    3. reboot.
    That's all I wanted.
    # ipadm show-if
    IFNAME STATE CURRENT PERSISTENT
    lo0 ok -m-v------4- -4-
    v1 ok bm--------4- -4-
    # routeadm -u
    # routeadm | grep ndp
    disabled svc:/network/routing/ndp:default
If anyone know how to do the same without editing ipadm.conf please tell.

    Hey all.
I have a Sun T5120 and when the OS boots up, a loud piercing alarm goes off.  The alarm starts during the boot-up phase:

    Thank you.

This post has been moved to the Sun Servers HARDWARE discussion space,
from the Solaris discussion space, for proper topic alignment.
You appear to have a hardware alarm issue, not an OS issue.
I would presume that this topic is readily mentioned in the system documentation.
That documentation for your T5120 is here:

  • How to disable processors

    Hi all,
I use a full system simulator simics to boot sun solaris os and do some research on it. Now I have no idea how to disable a specified cpux after the system is booted. I have tried to use "psradm -f ID" to disable the cpuID. However, it seems that the processor won't be totally removed and after cycles running the system may latter crash. The reason I guess is that some tasks are still load onto that disabled processor.
I also found the asr-disable is good enough for some platform such as v440/v880. However I just got the sarek simulation environment, so I wonder whether there will be similar commands to totally disable the specified cpu so that the OS would not schedule any task or process to that processor.
Sorry for such silly questions. I just want to advance my researches.
    Thanks in advances!
    yihui

    Thanks for your reply.
Simics has the function of completely disabing any processor in simics. The reason why the system crashed later is that the OS do use the offline core to do some work, which is assumed in simics that the core is totally disabled. Therefore, the task in disabled core would not be processed and the system finally crashed.
So I just want to completely disable a specified core so that OS would not allocate any tasks to that core in the subsequent running of the system. Is there any good ideas?

It's built in to the X server. I don't think you can disable this via X resources.
You might be able to do a command-line login, then run your own X server (point it at a copy of xorg.conf in your home directory). But that's a lot of work.

  • How to disable X11 autostart

I have installed Solaris 9 and do not have any idea how to disable booting into X11 enviroment. I tried to find something in /etc/inittab (like in linux) but I failed.
    Any idea?

You can mess with the rc scripts as much as you like.
Of course it is better to use tools like the DT configuration, as Lion mentions.
But nothing depends on S99dtlogn, especially that it is the last script to start. So you may modify its contents, rename, or remove it as you please.
There's a single script among rc files, which launches each S... and K... script with either Start or Kill argument respectively. So you rename the script to anything that does not start with these letters.
If I remember well, that single control script is started by some thing, which references svccfg database. svccfg is actually a utility that ultimately controls all startup, including the rc scripts.
You may use it to turn off any part of the start up. But I don't remember if it can turn off individual rc scripts. Anyway, you would break your neck trying to grasp the structure of svccfg database and the internal commands of this utility, because it is all text mode.
I personally would simply rename the file, or use DT configuration.
But I mention the svccfg for completeness of the picture.
svccfg may still come handy where scripting is required. You may want to study this utility and some other utilities related to it.
Some configuration can only be done with svccfg.
The behaviour of DT login, and configuration of its main screen can be done under /etc/dt/. You find original files somewhere under /usr/..., perhaps under /usr/dt/. Customize them and place under /etc/dt, as instructions in the files say.

  • How to disable parent window while popup window is coming

    Hi,
I am working on Oracle Applications 11i.
I am able to get the popup window using the Java script in the controller.
Please see the below code for the reference.
    String pubOrderId = pageContext.getParameter("orderId");
