How to disable Quicktime......

Hello,
When i download a file, lets say a clip from the intenet, quicktime opens automatically this file. How can is disable this. i want my download screen back so i have an overview of the download...

I'm not entirely sure about this but since no one else is helping you I will give it a shot, and if doesn't wok this will not harm your computer.
1. Open WMP
2. On the toolbar press tools and down to options
3. Click on the tab "file types"
4. Select all or select the ones you want
5. Close WMP and restart the browser
I'm not sure this will help, I'm pretty sure it will though.
Hope it helps

  • How to disable Quicktime but keep iTunes usable

    Hi, thanks to anyone for looking at this...maybe you can help. I spend a lot of time on the US Patent and Trademark Office website, and to view patents filed online you need a special TIFF viewer, which I have. Quicktime, once installed, overrides it as the TIFF viewer which I hate because it gives no print options or sizing, save, zoom, etc. as my other TIFF viewer does.
    I've tried opening the Quicktime preferences menu and basically disabling all streaming or web options, and then disabled it from the Internet Explorer add-ons menu and enabling my other TIFF viewer, but as long as Quicktime is installed I cannot view the TIFF files except with Quicktime.
    Hope someone can help...I miss using iTunes! (won't work without QT).

    In QT settings have you tryed unchecking the TIFF preferences listed in File Types and in Browser Mime Settings? Also try right clicking on a TIFF that is on the computer, go to properties, where it shows Opens with: click on the change button and choose the media program that you want to handle the file.

  • How to disable Quicktime X

    I don't want to use Quicktime X, is there are way I can prevent it from opening movies when I click on movie files and just use the Quicktime that works, QT7 pro?
    Quicktime X is just awful. This is the worst product launch I have every witnessed from Apple.

    Don't bother with the bug report. This is well known. Go back to the top of the thread.
    1. Get rid of QT X or move it somewhere else.
    2. Right click on QT 7 (downloaded into Utilities when you installed SL).
    3. In the Resources folder inside, remove and delete the QT Application Launcher.
    4. Put QT 7 in your Applications folder. If you have a Pro registration, it should transfer automatically to QT 7.
    Everything should work fine from now on. QT files and Flip4Mac-converted ASFs and WMVs should all open in QT 7. You can then use the Change All button to make these associations permanent.
    Some people find QT X wonderful for reasons unknow. I don't. It's happily deleted from my hard drive. QT 7 Pro is great.

  • Widescreen preview mode, how to disable?

    hello everyone
    i already have a project that i made using the templates in idvd 08,my project was shot in 16x9 anamorphic and then i put it on a 4x3 sequence so it will letterbox on normal 4x3 televisions, when i hit the preview button and played my footage it showed my project was squashed, and below was a green caption 'widescreen preview'.
    anyone know how to disable this?because i have done lots of projects in this same workflow(16x9 to 4x3 sequence) but showed to be fine when i preview it on idvd (a letterboxed footage in a 4x3 aspect). this is the first time i encountered this and i cant seem to find how to disable the 'widescreen preview'
    the aspect ratio of my dvd template is 4x3
    i hope someone could help me, thank you very much

    Found a post in another forum from JTR210, it worked for me...
    Quoting...
    I found a stupid workaround where you download a program called Inverse-Anamorphicizer
    http://homepage.mac.com/sith33/FileSharing34.html
    You drop the 4:3 movie you are using into Inverse-Anamorphicizer and it creates a reference movie that you drag into iDVD. After using this process the DVD burned fine and I tested it on 3 different machines to confirm that everything was at a 4:3 ratio.
    The menu, movies and slideshow of the DVD were all coming up widescreen but everything works like it should now. Does anyone know a better method than this or is quicktime and iDVD just screwed up until they update it?
    End Quote...
    Hope this helps.

  • Disable QuickTime plug-in...

    How can i disable quicktime's plug-in in Firefox?
    Thanks.

    You cant.
    In a webenvironement you have very limited access to the browser. Diabling plugins is definitly not one of the things you are allowed to do on the client from your webpage

  • Disable Quicktime plugin for Internet Explorer

    There has been discussion on a number of forums regarding the Quicktime plugin for Windows Internet Explorer and how it will hijack file associations, preventing them from being opened up with your default application. This only occurs when clicking on a link on a website. This even occurs when the file assocations in Windows are set to open a particular media file with your desired player. Disabling the Quicking plugin in the Internet Explorer settings may only makes things worse because instead of the file playing with the Quicktime plugin, Internet Explorer displays a red "X", and doesn't play the media. Uninstalling Quicktime is a solution, but if you, like me, own a Apple device and use iTunes, Quicktime must be installed. There are a number of postings on the web with potential solutions, but none of them worked for me.
    After troubleshooting for some time, I have finally figured out how to disable the plugin once and for all. I have narrowed it down to the registry entry that apparently loads the plugin into Internet Explorer. By simply deleting this entry, the Quicktime plugin will no longer load with IE and media will be launched with your favorite player. You can easily revert back to the Quicktime plugin by restoring the registry entry from a backup. Below, I have provided the reg.exe command line commands to backup and delete the registry entry.
    1) Close out of Internet Explorer.
    2)Backup with this command:
    reg export "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69} " C:\qt_plugin1.reg
    NOTE: This registry path is for Windows x64 (64-bit). I am not certain of the path for Windows x86 (32-bit), but I assume you may just need to remove Wow6432Node from the path. If it is not there, open regedit.exe and search for 4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69.
    3) Delete with this command:
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{4063BE15-3B08-470D-A0D5-B37161CFFD69} " /f
    4) Open Internet Explorer and test. When you click on a music or video link, your default media player should now launch.
    I have tested this myself several times, including a reinstallation of Quicktime, and it worked. If it doesn't work for some reason, you can try performing the same steps with the following registry entries. Do one at a time and test so that you don't delete anything unnecessary.
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{CB927D12-4FF7-4A9E-A169-56E4B8A75598}
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B}
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Compo nents\3F9E7EA97A1AEE54490637032025DEF9
    If you wish to restore the Quicktime plugin, simply double-click the registry file that you backed up in step 2. Click yes when it asks you to confirm. Now when you open Internet Explorer and click on a link, the Quicktime plugin will load and play the media.

    I mentioned I have the Acrobat Pro 9 version.
    Also, Im using IE 8.

  • Disabling Quicktime's handling of downloaded TIFF files in IE7

    Prior to installing Quicktime 7, "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" was the default application used by Internet Explorer 7 to automatically open downloaded TIFF files. After installing Quicktime 7, it became the default application - which is something I most certainly do not want.
    If I change (within Quicktime) the appropriate MIME content setting that disables Quicktime's handling of TIFF files, Internet Explorer continues to use Quicktime for displaying TIFF files. Same thing happens if I configure Quicktime to not be the default application used for opening TIFF files. If I disable the Quicktime ActiveX control in Internet Explorer and then try to view a TIFF file downloaded via Internet Explorer, I get an error message to the effect that the Quicktime ActiveX control is disabled.
    The only way I can solve the problem is to uninstall Quicktime.
    Is there some other solution I'm missing?

    I needed to change the CLSID entry in the following two registry keys from that of Quicktime's to that of Microsoft Office Document Imaging:
    HKEYCLASSESROOT -> MIME -> Database -> Content Type -> image/tiff
    and
    HKEYCLASSESROOT -> MIME -> Database -> Content Type -> image/x-tiff
    The Quicktime installer changes the CLSID entry in both these registry keys to its own, irrespective of how one configures Quicktime at the time of installation. After installation, the Quicktime settings control panel also fails to switch these CLSID settings from Quicktime back to the default, and that control panel seems to simply ignore any changes made by the user as regards these settings.
    Alas, while this solution solved the problem on my personal computer, it has not solved the problem on a large corporate network of PCs where I work - and the only reliable solution thus far has been to request the network admins to permanently uninstall Quicktime.

  • How to stop QuickTime Streaming messages in secure.log?

    The secure.log of the server is flooded with these kind of messages:
    Jan 25 12:13:08 server com.apple.SecurityServer[41]: Succeeded authorizing right 'com.apple.server.admin.streaming' by client '/usr/sbin/QuickTimeStreamingServer' for authorization created by '/System/Library/CoreServices/ServerManagerDaemon.bundle'

    I have tried to adjust the idle time setting in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.servermgrd.plist to 300, the supposed Maximum above which idle time defaults to 60 seconds. In my experience this initially works after which the flooding starts all over. The default interval is also a lot smaller than 60 secs.
    How to effectively eliminate these messages apart from disabling QuickTime Streaming all together?

    I would.  (Ignore it.)  OS X logging has long had this misfeature; various versions of applications have been far too chatty, others have log ominous messages that are harmless, and there's the occasional innocuous-nasty message logged.
    If this particular message bugs you — I have several similar "favorites" in my own logs — add it onto a grep --invert-match pattern or such, and filter it out of the logs before you review them.  When you're running OS X or another Unix box in production, message filters based on grep or similar are used to reduce the chatter, and also to flag the nasty messages.

  • Disable QuickTime

    Help! I would like to view movie files with Windows Media Player, not Quicktime. But I have iTunes which won't work when I uninstall Quicktime. Everytime I download a movie file it opens up automatically in quicktime even though I specified Windows media player as my default player. How do I disable quicktime and prevent it from opening all my mov,mpg,wmv,ari,avi etc files?

    Thanks for you patience...
    I've already selected WMP in the custom add/remove control panel before I wrote about the problem.
    To right click on a media file on my computer means i have to save it on my computer, which I don't want to do. I tried that and indeed if opened from my computer it uses WMP. But I want to be able to open files from the inet without having to save them first on my computer.
    In my browser (firefox) I can choose what program to open files with (the "open file with ___" and "always use this program for...this type of file") small window that opens when clicking on) only if the file online is a WMV. All other files clicked on go directly to another browser window and download and play simaltaneously, with quicktime. The window that gives me the option to choose which prgram to use, doesn't open in these cases.
    Previously (and with my desktop right now as well) I did not have this problem. It started when I downloaded iTunes for the first time on my new laptop 2 weeks ago.

  • How to disable parent window while popup window is coming

    Hi,
    I am working on Oracle Applications 11i.
    I am able to get the popup window using the Java script in the controller.
    Please see the below code for the reference.
    String pubOrderId = pageContext.getParameter("orderId");
    StringBuffer l_buffer = new StringBuffer();
    StringBuffer l_buffer1 = new StringBuffer();
    l_buffer.append("javascript:mywin = openWindow(top, '");
    l_buffer1.append("/jct/oracle/apps/xxpwc/entry/webui/AddAttachmentPG");
    l_buffer1.append("&retainAM=Y");
    l_buffer1.append("&pubOrderId="+pubOrderId);
    String url = "/OA_HTML/OA.jsp?page="+l_buffer1.toString();
    OAUrl popupUrl = new OAUrl(url, OAWebBeanConstants.ADD_BREAD_CRUMB_SAVE );
    String strUrl = popupUrl.createURL(pageContext);
    l_buffer.append(strUrl.toString());
    l_buffer.append("', 'lovWindow', {width:750, height:550},false,'dialog',null);");
    pageContext.putJavaScriptFunction("SomeName",l_buffer.toString());
    But here the problem is, even though popup window is there, i am able to do the actions on the parent page.
    So how to disable the parent page, while getting the popup window.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks
    Naga

    Hi,
    You can use javaScript for disabling parent window as well.
    Refer below link for the same:

  • How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Pref.] - [Display] - [Arrangement]

    Does anyone know How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Preferences] -> [Display] -> [Arrangement]?
    It always want to align the two screens from the top when they are lined up close together and I need them to be aligned from the bottom. Since the resolution heights are so close together (1080 & 1050) it does not allow one to align side by side from the bottom as it prioritizes top alignment.
    I guess I'm looking for a script to disable this feature.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • How to disable the "turn page" event triggered by the scroll/swipe function?

    The problem is as follows.
    The default behaviour of Acrobat Reader (both stand alone and browser plug-in) is to allow scrolling/swiping with the mouse wheel/trackpad. This is useful when the pdf's page length is greater than the screen's own length, because you can read the pdf with no need to distract your attention from the text to the scrollbar button. However, the same scroll/swipe function turns into a usability problem when the pdf is embedded in a html page and the pdf's page length is smaller than the browser's length. In this case, the scroll/swipe turns the page, distracting your attention from the text to the unintended behaviour of the browser. What happens is that you are so used to scrolling/swiping that you did it unintentionally in the pdf's caption area. You really did not want to turn pages in the pdf. Furthermore, if the pdf takes the whole html page, being a website, the scroll/swipe function flips the website pages in ways that neither the reader nor the writer had ever intended. Hence the question. How to disable, in this case, the "turn page" event triggered by the scroll/swipe function? A JavaScript should do, but the SDK documents did not help so far...
