How to disable ram compression in MAC OS 10.9

More beach ball's that I need.
Since I loaded Mavericks, I suspect that the memory compression method, as opposed to the virtual memory swap file method, is causing more delays.
Can the compression of ram-loaded apps and data be disabled and the old swap file be used? If so, how is this done?
Is there a knowledge base article on this?
Thanks
Barry
I have an 8Gig 2012 MBP.

To my knowledge, there is no user option to do what you indicate you wish to do....

  • How to disable back to my mac with Windows airport utility?

    Setup is as follows:
Modem > AEBS (latest version) > Windows 8.1 machine running IPSEC VPN server
..I cannot get the outside world to talk to the VPN server despite forwarding the required ports (500,4500,1701) so I enable debug logging on the AEBS and see a bunch of these.
Mar  7 19:49:26 airport-extreme natpmp: Binding added for udp, 109.155.226.110:32771 to 10.0.1.2:4500 with lifetime 7200
Mar  7 19:49:26 airport-extreme natpmp: Binding added for udp, 109.155.226.110:32769 to 10.0.1.32:4500 with lifetime 7200
In AEBS I'm forwarding 4500 to IP .99
    4500 is BTMM right?
So I'm thinking I'll disable BTMM on the AEBS and test again however the Windows airport utility won't let me disable/enable BTMM and I dont have another OSX machine on the network currently to use to check/change the setting.
Any suggestions on how I can disable BTMM from the Windows tool?  Or without a tool at all?
    Thanks!!

I strongly recommend whenever a router is seeming to cause issues.. you actually bypass it.. plug the computer directly into the modem and see if the vpn works. You need to get the simple easy to work before you attempt the much harder job of vpn passthrough on a known problematic device.
If the vpn doesn't work still you have the vpn server or local firewall setup wrongly.
If it works ok and the airport continues to give you grief.
My advice is simple.. get another router. Bridge the AE and use it for Wireless. A cheap normal router (particularly if you purchase wisely one that has possible 3rd party firmware) is going to save you years of aging, worry, pain, and all round trouble. Particularly when you try to get things working Apple to Windows with their different upnp vs NATPMP protocols, it is just too hard.
however I'm still seeing those binding messages in the log, as if it's still going somewhere.
Some interaction with Apple is built into every Mac with iCloud ID at least. Turn off all the other clients in the network.. reboot the AE.. but I doubt it will make any difference. It might not be BTMM it might simply be the security protection of the username and password.

  • How to disable back to my mac automatic log in

When I used screen sharing in OS Lepoard I would have to connect using my user id and password (different from Apple ID).  But now in OS Lion when I use file sharing or screen sharing it connects to the remote computer automatically and uses my Apple ID ([email protected]) to log on.  How do I disable the automatic log on?  I want to be able to screen share but be prompted for my credentials.

    Bump.
    Anyone?
In OS Lion my Back to my Mac remote computer connects without login or password. Is there anyway to have it such that you have to supply login and password when connecting or screen sharing?

  • How to disable motion detector in mac book black!

Hi there I recently changed the harddisc in my mbb 2008 model to a crucial ssd! I
understand it so that motiondetctor is no longer required  now?
I suspect it still interferes with my system as I notices lugging in webcams online  (pict freezes then continues) This did not occur before change...
Regards from Mbb SL owner  now with 256 gb SSD very smooth.

Just to make you comfortable, Bob isn't posting some "hack" for disabling the Sudden Motion Sensor.  Apple condones this method:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1934
However... this comment caught my attention:
This did not occur before change...
Regards from Mbb SL owner  now with 256 gb SSD very smooth.
I agree with shutting down the SMS if you have an SSD (there is no purpose for it).  However, if you were not experiencing stuttering in your video with your hard drive and the SMS enabled, I don't see why the SMS would be responsible for stuttering with your SSD.  For starters, the SMS should only be activating if you are moving your machine around.  If you are not moving it around and you are still experiencing stuttering, you may have a different problem.  While SSDs offer great performance when they work properly, different brands and models have had varying degrees of success in Macs (sometimes working in one model but not another... or sometimes even working in one model and not in another machine that is the same model).    Random "pauses" is one of the more common problems.   Let us know if disabling the SMS works for you.

  • Disable SSL Compression on Mac OS X Mountain Lion Server

I am running apache 2.2.22, using just profile manager 2, and I am trying to mitigate the crime attack on my server by disabling compression for ssl.  There is more than one directory with httpd.conf files, and I am not sure where to edit the settings to turn compression off for the Profile Manager application that is running.  Any guidance would be great.
    Thank you.

There seems to be nothing in there about disabling compression for Apache 2.2.22 which is the version in OS X Server.  Any more ideas?  I found the correct configuration files, in the /Library/Server/ directory, but not sure what command or things to change to disable this feature.
    Thank you.

  • How to disable Acrobat Updater for Mac Acrobat 8?

The Acrobat 8 manual says one can change updating preferences by "Choose Help > Check For Updates”. But the Help menu in 8.1.6 does not offer that menu item.
AFAICS, there do not appear to be any relevant items in Acrobat Preferences.

The updating preferences are under Edit>Preferences>Auto updates (this latter may not be exact, but the location of the preferences should be correct).

  • How to disable wifi for MAC desktop?

This is probably a very simple process.  I just need a little direction.  Does anyone happen to know how to disable wifi on a MAC desktop when using an ethernet cable versus wifi?

EDIT: If the stuff below seems more complicated than you wish to be involved in, feel free to ignore it.
The Mac will send packets bound for the Internet to the Top-Most ACTIVE interface listed in the left side of the box at:
    System Preferences > Network
If you set the 'Service Order' to have Ethernet at the top, whenever Ethernet is working, Wi-Fi will be ignored.
Set Service order is available using the gear Icon at the bottom of that box.
So all my Internet traffic is going over my Ethernet connection, even though Wi-Fi is still connected and nominally "active".

  • HELP! How to I disable SkyDrive on a Mac/Maverick!!!

I am being prompted ever day to continue to upload amassing file. I can't get it out of my dock. It constantly reloads. Mac has indicated that it may be causing crashes to my computer. What are you people thinking?? I don't want. Why did you ram it into

I have an older mac and it wants me to update to itunes 10 but my mac is too old and I cant figure out how to disable the update so I can use the store.

If Software Update is offering the update then it would be compatible with your model.  Unfortunately, you haven't provided us with any information on your hardware that would enable us to determine if it really is too old.
If you really wish to disable the update alert then the next time Software Update opens, select the update in the list then select "Ignore update" from SU's Update menu.
