How to disable spaces on 10.8

Anyone know how to disable spaces on MacAir 10.8.5?

>As a point of interest, do people think that to have a server "pingable", involves a security risk?
Not at all. Please explain why you think it is a risk
IMHO, it makes no difference to the security of your site or server.
What does it tell a remote user? oooh - there's a server at IP address x.y.z.a!!
Big deal. If it's a public server you generally want people to know your server is there.
Conversely, disabling ping makes troubleshooting network problems a lot harder. If your site drops offline for any reason the first tool 99.9% of network admin will try is ping. So now, is that lack of ping reply a sign that your machine really is dead, or your ICMP block actually working?
Finally if you're running a public site you are behind some kind of firewall, right? You're not running your server with it's proverbial *** hanging out in the wind, and therefore the firewall would be the appropriate place to put such controls (especially if you're in a NATted network).

  • How to disable spaces entirely in Mountain Lion?

    Hi there,
I just upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard – I do not use or like using Spaces, and I've turned off all possible options in "mission control" but I still find that moutain lion is separating my firefox windows and other app windows to different spaces and it's driving me bonkers. I have never needed Spaces, I find just simple Expose to be the perfect solution, no matter how many windows I have running – how can I just completely disable Spaces in Mountain Lion?
    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I ran into a problem where sliding my cursor over to the RHS and hesitating "too long" there caused the Desktop to shift Right and reveal the 2nd Desktop that was hiding over there. I don't recall actually creating such a Desktop in the past - but this situation was outrageously annoying because I keep my Dock on the RHS, and apparently while hesitating trying to find a specific item in the Dock, Mountain Lion thought I meant to take it to the 2nd Desktop. This was Unexpected Behavior.
Similar to _daniel_, I have two large monitors (27" iMac and 27" external) and so Spaces/Multiple Desktops is really not necessary for me now. Even when I had only one monitor, it was a little challenging to use. I understand the concept, and I think it can be useful - I vaguely recall making use of it when all I had was a 20" iMac screen and wanted multiple apps open at the same time. Right now though, it's usefulness is pretty minimal.
While there is no way to "turn Spaces off", I resolved my issue with the help of silvergc's comment, launching Mission Control and clicking the X in the upper left corner of the 2nd Desktop. No more Desktop-Space-switching for me.
    Thanks to silvergc and _daniel_!

    3) my last problem its, i am not sure how to disable the print button.i need  to show an error message for my invoice via vf03 when error occur when user click print or print preview button. however with my code above, i am only able to display the error message and disable the print preview.
could anyone guide me how do i disable my print button? really appreciate your help.
    regards,
    sw

Instead of disabling the print buttons, you can restrict creating the actual output message for a specific output type.
You can achieve it by creating the Output Requirement in transaction VOFM. You need to assign this requirement to your Output type. In this Requirement you can check all your conditions. If they all validation pass through than and than create the Output.

  • How to disable extra visit to portal server

    hi Experts,
I am using wcp11.1.1.8, in a customized page template with portal builder, I used an EL expression to generate link like this:
I clicked this link, using httpwatch to monitor network traffic, found IE visited portal server twice: first visit is a "Get" method for ""http://localhost/webcenter/portal/Portal1/page1?_adf.ctrl-state=1dvjebskda_596"", result code is 200, the second visit is a "Post" method for "http://localhost/webcenter/faces/oracle/webcenter/page/scopedMD/s64679523_e5d0_454a_952a_55128e607e07/Page7.jspx?wc.contextURL=/spaces/Portal1&_adf.ctrl-state=1dvjebskda_596", result code is 200.
If I paste this url "http://localhost/webcenter/portal/Portal1/page1?_adf.ctrl-state=1dvjebskda_596" to ie addressing  field, and press return, httpwatch showed me there is no "second visit" for "/faces/oracle/webcenter/page/scopedMD/s64679523_e5d0_454a_952a_55128e607e07/Page7".
Seems the "second visit" is auto generated by portal framework, how to disable it?
    Best regards

    Hi.
Sorry about the delay, I was too busy and I only could do a small testing.
I was checking quickly how WebCenter Portal (formerly Spaces) works with links compared to Framework Portal.
The responsible of the "possible twice visit" is the following ViewHandler: oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.internal.view.navigation.NavigationViewHandler in spaces-model.web.jar (method getPageTargetViewId, getActionURL and also isRedirectRequired).
First of all, try to check that you're Pages have the "Redirect" checkbox unchecked (or you're navigation-model links). In case of being checked it will be 2 Requests.
    There are following behaviors:
Using <af:commandLink> just will navigate using PPR and doing a POST.
Using <af:goLink> using goLinkPrettyUrl there are many behavior:
Already wc.contextURL is present in the URL and then it will call just one GET.
If not is present, getActionURL it will add it in order to maintain the correctly the relationship Page - Space. It will generate you're behavior.
I'm trying to understand why sometimes just call one GET and why sometimes generate a GET,POST,GET behavior.
Anyway if it's urgent open a SR to Oracle.
I think that If you try to add to your goLinkPrettyUrl the wc.contextURL parameter it just should do a visit once time (one GET). Try it if you have free time .
    I hope this information helps.
    Regards.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How to disable preview in app mail

as the title, when i put attament such as jpeg, pdf file to app mail, always shows preview, how i disable this.
when receiver got this mail, always shows another .htm attament in thier mail client, why? i dont put .htm file in the email.

I think Apple has broken a rule here: don't impose organisational changes on your users.
They should have made this optional - Instead of which they have a number of disgruntled users who find their tried and tested mail organisation is broken.
You can see that some Apple hack reluctantly acknowledged this by providing a "Classic" button which nevertheless doesn't remove the "conversations" issue.
    Most frutstrating.
The other frustration is "Mission Control" and a long linear incompetent organisational paradigm replacing "Spaces".
A bit of a hiccup, this Lion: Are they running out of things to fix because it's working fine?

  • How to disable alarm on a T5120?

This post has been moved to the Sun Servers HARDWARE discussion space,
from the Solaris discussion space, for proper topic alignment.
You appear to have a hardware alarm issue, not an OS issue.
I would presume that this topic is readily mentioned in the system documentation.
That documentation for your T5120 is here:

  • How to disable spacebar scrolling

The question of how to disable spacebar scrolling is discussed on these pages:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/935601
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=722865&start=0
The solution given is to use the Keyconfig extension to reassign the use of the spacebar. However, the instructions are somewhat incomplete.
After finally getting it to work, I wanted to elaborate on the instructions. (Since those topics are closed, I'm starting a new one.)
<pre>1. Install the Keyconfig extension from this page:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_extension
    2. Make sure the Firefox Menu Bar is visible.
    3. From the Tools Menu, select Keyconfig.
    4. Click the Add a new key button.
    5. In the Name fleld, type a name for the keyboard shortcut, such as "Spacebar."
    6. To make this apply to all pages, click the Global checkbox.
    7. Click OK.
    8. In the Keyconfig main window, select the new shortcut, such as "Spacebar."
    9. Click where it says <Disabled>, and type a space. The term <VK_SPACE> appears.
    10. Click Apply.

  • How to disable Mozilla yellow strip, reminding us constantly to "update a plugin", which we don't want to update. Details (RE: Flash) below: bobgorg@ymail

Hello, how to disable the long horizontal Mozilla yellow strip, popping up and reminding us constantly to "update a plugin", which we don't want to update.
    Disabling the ones below:
    1/ plugins.update.notify User;true
    2/ plugin.scan.plid.all;true
    3/ dom.ipc.plugins.enabled;false
either does not help or disables completely Flash! What else to do with this ultra annoying "Update plugins" reminder, as we want to keep the older version 10 of Flash? We just do not want Flash v. 11 - it takes huge amount of CPU, while Version 10 works fine for all 'you tube" and "etc"... videos. No need for V.11. (Let us worry about viruses and security) But here it comes the so annoying Mozilla reminder to upgrade to Flash Version 11 - the yellow strip also takes screen space under the address bar. Please help. Very annoying - almost ready to switch to other browsers if this issue is not resolve. Other than that, the Mozilla 14 is great. Congratulations to all designing it. Thanks in advance. • How to disable internal TNEF format for mail message?

    for exchange 2007/2010
    my configuration is as follows:
    1. i've added a RoutingAgent, that catches every message that its subject contains
a specific word, then - re-routes it into a dummy domain (dummy.com for example).
    2. i've added SendConnector that catches dummy.com in the address space, and
routes it to a smtp listener.
If i send mails from outlook client to another user in the domain, it seems
that outlook wraps the smtp request in TNEF format (where the body and attachments are replaced with winmail.dat file).
If i add a recipient which is outside of the exchange domain, the smtp request is sent well in a regular MIME format.
can i somehow change the internal handling to simple MIME format? i need to
relay it to an external IP...
i tried to disable it in "Remote transport" - didnt work, because i'm routing
    those internal mails.
    thanks!

  • Disable spaces

I need to know how to completely disable space in a number of Mac OS X operating systems.  For testing purposes I must install a secure browser.  At this time as I install the browser and attmept to run a sample test with the browser using mavericks, I keep getting an error to completely dsable spaces.  I have attempted all the tricks that I know to disable spaces.  The error will not go away and I cannot run the sample tests.
    Ideas,
    Thanks in advance
    Don

Not much we can do about this, then.
Tell the state folks their tool is broken, or doesn't support current OS X.   That should send the state folks back to the provider that wrote the tool for them.
I'd probably leave off the part about the whole concept probably being broken, though.
If you want to have a little fun here, suggest they allow the use of one of the Tor bundles.  Boot that from USB or such.  Or slightly more seriously, suggest that — for the purposes of the test — that they allow you to boot and run a locked-down Linux distro that meets the state requirements.
I have not tried the following to disable Mission Control on Mavericks, and will assume you already have tried this and whatever else has been posted around the 'net:
defaults write com.apple.dock mcx-expose-disabled -bool TRUE
    killall Dock
    To revert:
    defaults write com.apple.dock mcx-expose-disabled
    killall Dock

  • What is "autodelete_base" snapshot on aggr0 and how to disable it?

Hello colleagues, could anybody explain what is purpose of "autodelete_base" snapshot in aggr0 and how to remove it permanently? As I noticed, snap_autodelete is permanently turn ON in DOT 8.2.x 7mode. And only way, how to disable this snapshot is to set aggr snap reserve to 0.Is there any other solution? I noticed those only on single systems, HA pairs, but not on metrocluster gateway filer with syncmirror aggregates. Thanks in advance for feedback. RegardsPetr Jaros

The purpose of “Autodelete_base”  is : If Aggregate snapshot autodelete is leaving you with no snapshots, the storage system will automatically create a snapshot called autodelete_base at the aggregate level when a snapshot is removed as a result of autodeletion. This ensures that there is always a new snapshot in the aggregate after a snapshot is deleted. If aggregate snapshots are enabled and there is not adequate space reserved for these snapshots, a situation may develop where a very large aggregate snapshot is created. This may occur if large volumes are deleted. If SyncMirror triggers an aggregate level snapshot and there is not enough space for two snapshots, the existing snapshot is deleted by the autodeletion feature and instantly replaced by the autodelete_base snapshot. However, there is still not enough space for the SyncMirror triggered snapshot. This will cause a loop of autodeletion which can only be interrupted by manually deleting the autodelete_base snapshot.StepsDisable automatic aggregate Snapshot copy creation by entering the following command:aggr options aggr_name nosnap onaggr_name is the name of the aggregate for which you want to disable automatic Snapshot copy creation.Delete all Snapshot copies in the aggregate by entering the following command:snap delete -A -a aggr_nameSet the aggregate Snapshot reserve to 0 percent by entering the following command:snap reserve -A aggr_name 0

  • How to disable auto-clean-up in Photoshop?

    Hi All,
I have an image which when opened in Photoshop appears to be cleaner (noise, bleed-through etc. removed). When I open the same image in IrfanView, I can see the noise.
Can someone please tell me how to disable the auto-clean-up in Photoshop? I would like to see the image as it is in Photoshop, without any clean-up.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
What I had uploaded is a screenshot of the image viewed in Photoshop and not the original JPEG. When I analyzed two JPEGS, one which appears cleaned up and another which doesn't appear cleaned up, the only difference I found was in the ICC profile. I am pasting both ICC profiles below.

  • Sorting arrows how to disable

    Dear All,
Looking for kind of a non standard solution. I want to disable sorting arrows in column heading in my report. They're placed like so they are taking some extra space according to text and so on I'm not able to see whole report on one screen. There is option to make some extra changes in css. I've tried to put this line: "pointer-events: none". Arrow where not available after that but still some space is taken. So physically buttons are still there. How to disable them.
    Please help !
    Anyone ?

Thank you for feedback. My version is Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.5.0. I tried to figure it out today but i'm afraid there's no option which allows switching off the sorting option. In my case there is such under the selected column in query in criteria but still when clicking in the place of sort arrows they immediately appear. There is an opportunity to switch the sorting off by using css in column heading options in results view but i don't have any reference to that technique in oracle BI. Hence the problem. If i knew where is the css and the class reference to headings in report.
