How to disable specific updates?

Hi, I have an old iMac - 2007 - the oldest kid on the block that can support Mavericks... I am very happy about that, and actually thepeformance on my old dude improved tremendously after upgrading to mavericks... Love it.
I have one minor issue though. I can't upgrade iMovie on it because my video card is not supported. But I can't find a way to disable the update either... It keeps poping up and asking me to upgrade iMovie. Is there a way to disable this just for iMovie? I love the autoupgrades... don't want to disable it completely though.
thanks,
Marcelo.

Some folks report that if you mouse over the text of the update description and right click, you are given the option to choose to ignore the update. Others report that doesn't work for them.

    If Software Update is offering the update then it would be compatible with your model.  Unfortunately, you haven't provided us with any information on your hardware that would enable us to determine if it really is too old.
    If you really wish to disable the update alert then the next time Software Update opens, select the update in the list then select "Ignore update" from SU's Update menu.

  • Help~How to disable Adobe Updater in Reader 8.*/9.*?

    Does anyone here know how to disable the Adobe Updater by registry or Group Policy?(if possible)
    I won't like to manually disable them by "Help" -> "Check for updates"
    The following registry key only works in 6.*/7.*
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater]
    "bShowInstCompDialog"=dword:00000000
    "bShowNotifDialog"=dword:00000000
    "iUpdateFrequency"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Updater]
    "bShowInstCompDialog"=dword:00000000
    "bShowNotifDialog"=dword:00000000
    "iUpdateFrequency"=dword:00000000
    Help~

    I don't know where that preference item is stored. But if it's in the registry, I would do the following if I were in your situation.
    *export the entire registry
    *set the no-update preference, according to Aaron's suggestion
    *export the entire registry again (to a different name)
    *compare the two files (e.g. with windiff); that should show you what's changed in the registry

  • How to Disable Auto Updates on Flash Player 10 using mms.cfg

    Hi Friends,
    I am a newbee into this.I am trying to install a customized Adobe Flash  Player 10.2.153.1 in which auto updates are disabled.  I went through the Adobe guidelines and found that it is possible to do the same using a MMS.CFG file. Can anyone tell me how exactly this would look like. I will be extremely thankful if someone can attach a sample of the same.
    One more question...
    When we disable auto updates using mms.cfg file, will this be updated in the Global Settings Manager ?
    Tries from my end till now:
    I tried to create a mms.cfg by editing a txt file and adding "AutoUpdateDisable=0 " and then saving teh same as mms.cfg using UTF-8 encoding. this didnt make any difference in the Global Settings manager.
    Please help me...
    Regards,
    Dilip

    No, I don't think so; these settings are stored in a different place.
    Some users have reported that AutoUpdateDisable via mms.cfg does no longer work in Flash Player 10.3.  Please check if this failure already occurs in Flash Player 10.2.

  • How to disable product update on Cisco AnyConnect mobility client

    Hallo,
    Do you anybody know how to disable/turn off "Checking for product update" during _every_ connecting Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client (VPN) to remote sites?
    I found it may by possible on the ASA side, but I need to disable it on the client (computer). I can see that checking is NOT during connecting to my company site, but when connecting to ANY OTHER site everytime is new version checked. It takes some time ... and I need to switch between VPN often.
    Thank you for your help!
    Regards, Ondrej

    You should be able to do this in the AnyConnect local policy. Just add (or edit, if you already have a local policy file) the following to the local policy file:
    <!--?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?-->
    <anyconnectlocalpolicy acversion="2.4.140" xmlns="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/encoding/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemalocation="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/encoding/ AnyConnectLocalPolicy.xsd">
    <BypassDownloader>true</BypassDownloader>
    </AnyConnectLocalPolicy>
    The local policy file can be found here:
    Windows Vista/7/8: C:\ProgramData\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\AnyConnectLocalPolicy.xml
    Linux/Mac: /opt/cisco/anyconnect/AnyConnectLocalPolicy.xml
    See the Enabling FIPS and Additional Security in the Local Policy section of the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Administrator Guide, Release 3.1 for more details.

  • How to disable Specific Enterprise Features

    Hi experts,
    I am trying to work on a script that will disable the 9 EE specific features as outlined in the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/obi-se1-11g-wp-187262.pdf
    Although this link shows you how to disable them using the GUI we need to be able to do it systematically via a script as we will be installing Oracle 11g Standard Edition One for many of our customers and want to automate the process.
    I have not been able to find much information on how to do this but have found out that you can deny access to delivers by altering the instanceconfig.xml file:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31766.pdf
    (page 69)
    Is it possible to disable the other 8 EE specific features in the same way? and if so how?
    Thanks in advance for any replies

    Thanks Veeravali for your reply
    I am trying to stay within the 'Standard One' License of Oracle BI
    As there is no seperate install for the Standard One Edition, we have to install the enterprise edition and manaully disable features which fall outside of this licence e.g The ‘Standard One Edition’ hides Enterprise features such as Delivers , Score-Carding, KPI Builder, Segment Trees, List formats etc.
    We have been able to how to disable such features by turning off certain privileges through the administration page under the security section. (As per the first link in my original post)
    However we want to write a script that will acheive this
    Hope this is more clear

  • How to Disable Software Updates

    One of my customers, a small school district, has an Xserver running OS X 10.6.6. All of the student and teacher MacBooks are also on this version. The district is deploying a program called DeepFreeze on the student laptops which will prevent them from saving any and all changes to the laptop. They have local administrative rights, but when the laptop is rebooted, it is like they never logged in. Therefore, Apple Software Updates are useless and really undesirable. They'll be downloading the same updates everyday. They can turn DeepFreeze off and run the updates, but this will not be on a scheduled basis. Is there a way through Workgroup Manager that I can disable the updates for the student group?

    We turn that off in system preferences for each local account. I even build a DEFAULT template with it turned off. It works fine until we image the machine.  Any new machine with that image, the Apple updates, Bluetooth are turned back on!!!
    How do you keep them turned off after a restore? The original machine with the master image still works. they only turn back on after using the image of the master.  Very annoying that every app on  a mac has to search for updates all the time, then multiply that times a 1000 machines and a 15m internet connection. Do the math.
    if anyone knows how to KEEP the settings after a restore, let me know.

  • How to disable auto update jre-6u20 by script

    Hi,
    our users can not update java, because of domain-restrictions.
    So they should not become the notification.
    How can we disable auto update for version jre-6u20 by script?

    Trying to figure out the same thing. I came across the following two links but I don't think they will disable the updates to community help itself. So from what I can gather you need to do the following:
    Turn off autoupdates to AIR (See below)
    Turn off updates to Community Help (No clue how to do this)
    Install Local content (See below)
    Disables updates to AIR

  • How to disable auto update for corporate installation

    I've scoured the forums for this information and was not successful locating a viable answer.
    We need to update 1500 corporate clients to the latest version of QT, but we need the auto update feature turned off when the upgrade is complete. We do this for two reasons: 1) Users do not have permissions to run the installer, so even if they wanted to run the update they would be unsuccessful, and 2) we need to test any updates before they are distributed to the general population.
    For past versions we created a QTP file with the auto update turned off, then placed it into the C:\documents and settings\all users\application date\apple computer\quicktime folder. This method is no longer successful.
    Changing the settings for each individual user is not an option, we need a method that will change the setting for any past, current, or future user on all of our computers.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

  • Update Retriever - how to hide specific updates?

    Hi,
    while reading the System Update Deployment Guide, I stumbled upon the possibility of hiding updates from automatic downloading into the repository. As there are certain software products distributed via lenovos Servers, which I do not want to install onto our companies' computers, I would like to let Update Retriever skip these updates.
    I wasn't able to find the described funcionality in the program yet. Does someone of you know how to hide those updates?
    Thanks in advance,
    mat_ban

    Allan, as far as I can see it only allows me to include or not include Metadata by checkin the box in the Image Export window. I want to include most Metadata, particularly my name and copyright. There is one field where I keep my notes that I do not want to send with the photo.This is where my dilemma lies.
    thanks

  • How to disable specific metrics

    Hi all,
    How do I disable a specific metric from being run/gathered? For example, I only wish to disable the 'User Logon Time (msec)' metric but this seems associated with the 'State' and 'Status' metrics which I do not want to disable. Is it possible to only disable the 'User Logon Time (msec)' without disabling the others? If so, how please?
    Thanks.

    It was just an example but thanks for the insight. I appreciate it since I have been requested to disable this and now have the knowledge before-hand.
    I think I have my answer though, it's not possible to disable an individual metric that is grouped with multiple associated metrics.
    If I am wrong here someone please reply and let me know.
    Thanks.

  • How to disable app updates

    How can I disable the app updatesnotifications?  I usually update all the apps when ever I get an update notification, but if I get a lot of apps to update and i try to update them all, i get a message that says I don't have enough space to update all. I then have to go through and hand pick which ones to update or deleate some. The updates just continue to pile up and I have to pick and choose again. Is there a way to disable the app updates all together or would thst cause the apps to not work correctly?

    Is there a way to at least hide the update notification number that just keeps increasing if you can't update them all to get rid of it?
