How to disable super drive in macbook boot?

i would like to know if there is a way to disable optical drive in boot sequence?
like in windows you can set the boot sequence and then the boot is quicker.
and also the noise the optical drive makes is a bit annoying.
any idea anybody?
thanks

Hi S,
If you have the newer unibody style, it's very easy. If it's one of the earlier models, it's considerably more difficult. Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware and find your Model Identifier. Then go to ifixit.com, or powerbookmedic.com or macsales.com or youtube or others and there are illustrated, detailed directions. Good luck to you and post back if you have further questions.

I have MacBook Air and also Apple Supper drive for the same. can u help me to find dvd/cd burrning and copy software. and also guide me "how to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air"

First to create a video DVD you need to use DVD authoring software like iDVD.  You can purchase it from the online Apple Store while supplies last.
For creating a disk image use Disk Utility.
To burn items to a CD or data DVD just insert the disc in the optical drive and drag those items onto the disc icon on the Desktop.  Then drag the disc icon to the Trash icon in the Dock which changes to a Burn icon.

  • How to disable CD-DRIVE checking, while using a Dolphin file manager

    Hello.
I  would like ask for a help. I have one problem that's quite annoying. It is related to checking cd-drive when using a dolphin file menager. It always cheecks it when Dolphin is launched from K or launcher on taskbar for the first time, again it happens when i close it and open again.
Is there a way to disable checking of cd-drive in Dolphin? This behaviour occurs on KDE with all linux system that i checked: Slackware, Arch, Kubuntu. Look at this:
Disabling CD-DRIVE checking, while using a file manager
I would like to disable it in order to speed up opening Dolphin, launching it.

Udisks2 is what dolphin uses to handle external drives of all kinds (USB, optical, etc).  Udisks is an automounting tool that allows normal users to mount disks.  The permission handling before was handled with consolekit and has now been replaced by systemd-logind (which is much better anyway).  So what I am suggesting is that it might be that dolphin is using udisks2 as the tool that polls for the existence of a disc in your optical drive.
Unfortunately, it is a bit more confusing than that because udisks2 is the replacement for the original udisks.  It is totally different and not compatible.  So I remember seeing a way to turn off optical drive polling, but I cannot remember if it was udisks or udisks2.  But it was done with a udev rule.
So I think if you tried to google for "udisks optical (or cd or dvd) polling" or something like that, you might be able to figure out how this is done.
Edit: unfortunately, I do not use dolphin or udisks2.  But I do have the original udisks installed.
Edit2: It seems that the method I remembered is for the original udisks.

  • How to disable optical drive?

My optical drive is intermittently going crazy and crashing my system. I've gone through all the support options - hardware test, PRAM reset, PMU reset. Nothing works. So I don't have time to take in to get fixed right now. Apple tech says there's a command line way to disable the drive but they won't tell me what it is. Does anyone have a link to the site or know how to do it?

None I know of short of (ugh) a) voiding the warranty by opening up the computer to pull the plug on it or b) putting tape over the slot.

  • Re: How to disable PXE 2.1 Pre Boot on Satellite M40?

    Folks
I'd like to disable PXE 2.1 Pre Boot that seems to be part of the BIOS on my Laptop. Its just an annoyance as it does time out after a while.
    the Laptop is
    Satellite M40-136
    BIOS V1.70
    Ram 2048 Mb
    OS Win XP Pro
I can't see a setting in the BIOS to disable PXE 2.1 Pre Boot. I don't believe its anything to do win the OS as it loads at switch on before the OS is started.
Anyone know of a fix please.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dennis

As far as I know you cannot disable it.
What you must do is to change boot order in BIOS.
Set LAN as last bootable device and as first bootable device set HDD. Thats all you must do.

  • How to Clone Hard Drive from Macbook Pro to Macbook Pro with Retina

Hey everyone! I had a question about cloning my laptop's hard drive. I was considering buying a MBP with Retina, but was wondering how I would accomplish copying over my current hard drive to the retina, as I know you can't take out the retina's hard drive, and it is flash. Any suggestions?

Connect the two with a Firewire cable if they both have Firewire ports (or use Thunderbolt if the both have Thunderbolt ports.) Boot the new computer into Target Disk Mode and the old computer normally. The new computer's disk drive should appear on the Desktop of the old computer.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination
          entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new computer's drive Source means the old computer's drive.
Be sure the old computer is running a version of Mountain Lion that is later than the version installed on the new computer. After cloning you will probably need to run the new 10.8.2 updater for the new computer. OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Update for 13" Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 21.5" iMac (Late 2012), Mac mini (Late 2012).

    Hi,
I am using my Late 2012 rMBP also in bootcamp with windows 7 64-bit
Often I see a popup from the NVidia Control Panel saying that a new update is available. Most of the time, the update adds new game profiles and such... I only use my Mac for CAD. But sometimes they also fix bugs or improve routines...
I know I am "safe" to ignore these messages.
But is it also "not recommended" (or even "dangerous") to install these updated drivers?
Probably, the included driver in the bootcamp driver pack is tweaked for these MBPs.... but is it?
    Regards,

  • How to disable nouveau driver?

Hi I'm trying to install my nvidia graphics drivers, when I close x and run the installer it complains that I need to disable the nouveau driver and run the installer again. It tries to do this itself but it fails.
Any idea how to manually disable it?
    Many thanks
    Mike

You may need to create your own modprobe.conf blacklist file and add a line in your grub.conf file in order not to load Nouveau at system startup:
    # echo "blacklist nouveau options nouveau modeset=0" > /etc/modprobe.d/disable-nouveau.conf
Edit /etc/grub.conf file and add the following to the end of your kernel line: rdblacklist=nouveau

  • HOW TO REPLACE HARD DRIVE WHITE MACBOOK EARLY 2009

I have a White MacBook Early 2009, I need suggestions. My Macbook is still running fine, but would like to know which Hard Drive I should purchase as replacement. Thinking of going 500GB if possible, I already downloaded the instructions. Just trying to get my ducks in order for when that time comes, hopefully not for a few more years.

For a new hard drive try Newegg.com
Regular SATA drives http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Dr ives&Order=PRICE  Use the list at the left for larger and faster drives.
    SSD drives
http://www.newegg.com/Internal-SSD/SubCategory/ID-636?Order=PRICE  Use the list at the left for larger and faster drives.
Or OWC for regular hard drives and SSDs  http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Here are instructions on replacing the hard drive in a MacBook with a removable battery. http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=45088
To transfer your current hard drive I like the applications Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. They make a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive. http://www.bombich.com/index.html or http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.
Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NexStar-2-5-Inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B002JQNXZC/r ef=pd_cp_pc_0
If you don’t have the tools to open up the MacBook OWC has a set for $5

I need to replace the hard drive on an older MacBook...how do I go about doing this?
I'm pretty sure I just need to buy a new one, but don't know if it has to come from the Apple store.
When I was last at Apple, they told me I could probably have it done at Best Buy.
Please help...I'm not very computer savvy.

You can find replacement drives plus installation tutorials at OWC.
