How to disallow opening in-line attachments in Mail?

I have received some junk mail with an in-line attachment (therefore opened) which bears no relationship to the text of the junk; for example an image which no-one would find funny, beautiful etc. Suspicious. I'm thinking of a Word macro (perhaps now protected against by the OS), an image with some buried code, etc.
How can I instruct Mail to display attachments as a list of files which I can choose not to open?
Thanks

    How do i open winmail.dat attachments in mail ?

    Having problems with Winmail.dat attachments?  This is really Windows problem but their hubris will not allow them to admit it.
    Windows does have a global fix for this problem but it is not a general patch - in their KB there is a fix for Exchange servers which cause the winmail.dat problem but most users don't know about it or have it implemented.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138053http://
    Here is a solution that Apple users can get for $30.  An Austrian program and APP called Letter Opener http://www.creativeinaustria.com/http:// is the solution to seamlessly opening Winmail.dat files.

  • How do I open a .m4a file from Mail into Music app?

    How do I open a .m4a file from Mail into Music app?
    I mixed down a song from my band's latest session and saved it as a .m4a file (Apple AAC Audio format) and I e-mailed it to myself. Then on my phone I opened the e-mail message in Mail and held a long-press down on the attached .m4a file. But I do not see the option to open it up into the Music app. It only gives me the options of iMovie, WeChat, and USB Disk. Why would I want to open it up in those? It's a song. It should open up into the Music app so I can play it. What the heck?
    Please don't tell me that I have to use iTunes to do this and sync my phone to my computer, because I *do not* want to add these songs to my iTunes library. They are *practice session tracks* that I want to listen to then delete later when we have new versions.
    If there is no way to open them into the Music app, then is there a music player app I can get somewhere that will let me simply save audio files from Mail into it, and use it as a player for those songs? That's all I want to do.
    The only reasonable workaround I have found so far is to save them as .mp4 audio files, which the iPhone thinks are movies, so it lets me save them into the camera roll as Videos.
    Voice Memos would be acceptable as a place for them to be able to open into as well, but of course that's also not on the options list. Sigh.

    Why is that such an issue for you?
    Why do people insist on replying to threads without even reading the original post? I explained it there already!
    I don't have to use iTunes to save an image from Mail into my camera roll, or to save a PDF from Mail into iBooks. Why should I have to use iTunes to save a music file into Music app?
    But I'll repeat it since evidently you can't be asked to read the original posts before spamming a thread with questions that have already been answered. I *do not* want to add these songs to my iTunes library.
    My iTunes library is a sacred temple into which I only allow to enter the very best and highest-fidelity musical recordings of all time. I refuse to sully and soil my iTunes library with crappy practice mixdowns from my band, etc.
    Want to know why? Because I like to be able to hit "shuffle all" on my iTunes library and know that something that will improve my existence will emanate forth from this amazing device that I have invested thousands of dollars into (yes, I count my cell phone plan amongst the expenses).
    I shall not have the crappy burner mixdown tracks from my band's practice sessions come up every five songs (we generate TONS of these... literally hundreds... and they are all high-bitrate .m4a tracks in the 10-15 MB range). I let iTunes keep my music folder organized on my computer. It makes copies of everything being placed into it, and I don't want 159 GB of copies of burner tracks hiding like roaches throughout my temple. We don't name these files anything sensible (in fact the guy who mixes them down intentionally gives them random weird names) and they lack metadata. So there's no easy way to delete them back out of iTunes once they're in there. It's a huge pain; I used to do it, but I swore it off years ago and *I'm never going back!*
    The REAL question is, why does Apple force me to have to use iTunes—the most convoluted, kludgy piece of bloatware ever to issue forth from Cupertino—to do something as simple as adding an MP3 from Mail into the Music app on my phone? Why can't there be something simple—something equivalent to the Camera Roll inside the Music app, not only for the files I want to save from Mail, but also for my Garage Band exports, not to mention all the exports from all the various synthesizer, drum machine, and recording apps I use on a daily basis in iOS?
    It would be awfully nice to be able to play the songs I've recorded right in the Music app without having to go through the rigamarole of adding those files to my iTunes library, tagging them with metadata, syncing, etc. etc. yadda yadda yadda—just to delete them again as soon as I've synced so they don't pollute my computer's iTunes library!
    I bought Apple for ease of use, not so I would be forced to jump through a million hoops just do to something that ought to take one tap to accomplish!  That's ridiculous!

    How do I open draft folder of my mail?

    Tap on it. The same way that you open any folder in your email account. If you are asking how to create a draft folder .... Start typing an email and then tap Cancel at the top of the email window and you will be prompted to save or delete the draft. Tap Save Draft and then the draft folder will appear.
    Now what are you really asking about? Will your draft folder not open?

  • How to identify open schedule line item?

    Hi,
    I have a requirement for identifying open schedule line items. I want to identify any indicator or any field in any table which will tell me that the schedule line item is complete. Can anyone tell me how can I know that?
    Ex. Sales Order 1 has 3 materials (line items) in it A, B & C.
           For A the quantity is 10 and for which 3 schedule line have been created.
           Out of the 3 schedule lines, 1 schedule line item is complete that is the delivery has been done and the rest 2 are open.
    For B and C there are 4 & 5 schedule lines created and all are open.
    How can i identify that total 12 schedule line 1 is completed and 11 are open.
    Please suggest tables, field names / indicators.
    Regards,
    Vishal

    Hi Vishal,
    You can not identify the open line items directly, rather you have to calculate the delivered quantity and copmare it with the ordered qty for each line item. The ordered qty can be idenitfy from the table VBEP and the deliverd qty can be found out by calling the function RV_SCHEDULE_CHECK_DELIVERIES.
    Follow the link for more details to calculate the delvierd qty.

  • Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

    Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
    I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
    Any help with this?

    I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7.  Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
    In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
    We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message.  I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
    In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
    The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
    I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
    For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability.   Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

  • How do I open winmail.dat attachments

    When receiving a winmail.dat attachment I am unable to open it.

    You could try the LookOut! add-on.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lookout/
    It appears not to have been updated recently, but there are recent comments suggesting it is still functional.
    There are some standalone tools for converting these files, e.g.
    http://www.winmail-dat.com/
    and I think you will be able to find some on-line converters too.
    You might also want to tell your correspondents that their attachments are of no use to you, and direct them to this article:

  • How do I send windows friendly attachments in Mail?

    I am attaching jpgs to emails and sending them to windows users. They claim that the jpgs are embedded in the email and that they cannot access them. When I look at the email I sent in my Sent Mail folder it looks just like I would expect it to. Yes, the jpgs are visible at the end of the email, where I dragged them. But they are also shown in the header as attachments. "Always send windows friendly attachments" is already selected in the Edit>Attachments menu, so what am I missing here? Why can't these windows users access the jpg files?

    I need to make a living.  I won't let mac mail prevent me from making a living even a little bit.  Apples product will not let me do the things i need to do.  I don't have the luxury of trying to dictate to my customers which email product they use, most of them are NOT sophisticated computer users.  They use what is given to them by an ISP.  One contact lost could cost thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
    I am not misinformed Apples, product does not do what i need.  That is ALL the information i need, i can't use it.  I don't care, even a little bit, about a "standard" so don't try to inform me about standards and how Apple is right and Microsoft is wrong.
    Apples email product is the only product I've used that has this difficulty.  So far it has not been enough of a problem for me to abandon Apple entirely.  I must say that I cannot use 2 of the three products i have from apple for sending business emails.  I don't know how much longer Apple will be able to ignore real world problems their customers face when using Apple products in a very NON standards compliant world.
    None of the solutions i've found here are real world solutions, No Zipping of Files, No requirement that attachments be at the end of an email, No requirement for plain text.  No one seems to understand that much of what i have to deal with is a long string of forwarded and reply email.  If i try to make all of this stuff work i'd spend days reformatting other peoples email and the result would be something they would not recognize.
    So i'd love to hear from someone that does not have a myopic Apple flavored view of the world and has a real solution.  The only one i've found is spelled "OUTLOOK".  Sorry.

  • How do I open single-page PDFs from Mail?

    If I receive an email containing a one-page PDF, Mail shows it as an image. I want to see it as a PDF so I can open it in another app.
    Multiple-page PDFs are fine.
    This problem also exists when sending one-page PDF files from the iPad - they arrive as images.

    Single page pdf files always appear as already open in the mail app.
    I just created a single page PDF and emailed it to myself and this is what I get when I do what I suggebd that you do. This is how you do it. Why it is working for you I cannot explain.
    If you haven't done so already, the next thing that I would try is to close the mail app completely and reboot your iPad.
    Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Mail app and then swipe "up" on the app thumbnail to close it.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How do I open a new window in Mail with AppleScript?

    I have an AppleScript that opens Mail, but if Mail is open in the background, but no window is open, then the "activate" command simply brings the application to the front, instead of creating a new window. Is there another command that will open a window if there is no existing window?

    You could also use any one of the following six “keystroke” commands:
    tell application "Mail"
        activate
        tell application "System Events"
            keystroke "0" using {command down} --> Message Viewer ⌘0
            keystroke "1" using {command down} --> Inbox ⌘1
            keystroke "2" using {command down} --> Drafts ⌘2
            keystroke "3" using {command down} --> Sent ⌘3
            keystroke "a" using {option down, command down} --> Address Panel ⌥⌘A
            keystroke "0" using {option down, command down} --> Activity ⌥⌘0
        end tell
    end tell

    There is more info here that could help but it is the sender that needs to share the photos, there is not a lot that you can apart from opening a Skydrive account, no I don't have one either.

  • How to change the Subject line of the mail when PO is sent to a vendor

    I wanted to send PO through Email.All the settings have been done and the output goes fine.
    I wanted to change the text in the title and hence have set the programme as SAPMM06E and Form Routine as TEXT_SYMBOL_REPLACE .
    After setting ,NAST table is picking the text under TDCOVTITLE field as desired.But in the SOST queue ,it is not updating correctly.The PO number is not appearing and is giving some default number.
    Why it is not updating in SOST queue ,whereas the NAST table is picking the desired text?

  • How do i open email attachments

    I've seen this question unanswered on here many times - really need an answer. How do I open my email attachments in Firefox? Are there settings somewhere? I have Power Point in my computer but it isn't working with Firefox like it did with IE. Been looking all over for instructions but haven't found any yet. Please help.

    Attachments do open immediately via my yahoo mail.
    Really - now that's interesting because that is one of my pet peeves with my Yahoo Mail (accessed via browser): I have to download the attachments, they refuse to open within the message window. Especially one friend who likes to send 50 photos at once and I'd rather take a look before deciding which ones (if any) to download. Can't do it - can download one at a time, but it is still a download.....
