How to disassemble a 7942 phone / clean hook switch

Hello,
does anyone have a guide how to disassemble a 7942/62 phone without damaging it?
Would be nice to know for example to clean the phone or to repair / replace hook switch.
Thanks,
Bernhard

Hi Bernhard,
I just took apart a broken 7942 to test the method, but
it seems like they may have changed the design at some point
as this one had 9 screws on the back and a plastic clip on the side
housing to the left of the Hookswitch. It seems like your 7942 may be
more like the method described here

Cheers!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • I updated my 3GS to the ISO 5.1.1 .  It seems to have wiped my phone clean of apps, contacts, notes, etc.  How do I get them back?

    Hi all,
I updated my 3GS to the ISO 5.1.1 .  It seems to have wiped my phone clean of apps, contacts, notes, etc.  How do I get them back?
Appreciate for your guide amd help.

All apps should be in your iTunes library along with all other iTunes content that was on the iPhone.
Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer.
Notes can be synced with a supported app on your computer as well.
Contacts and notes are included with your iPhone's backup but not any iTunes content which should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Your iPhone's backup should have been updated as the first step during the update process. If the backup was not restored, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from that backup.

  • How can i get my phone working if i did a total clean without going to att store

how can i restore my phone after i done a total sweep?

Reading the User Guide will tell you how to restore your phone.  There's a bookmark to it in your Safari app, or you can download it as a free iBook from the iTunes store.

How can I see my phone on my laptop?

Once you connect the two, your phone will show up as a new removable hard drive. Just open up your computer and look for a new letter. By the way, once you are hooked up, you will not be able to see anything on your SD card.
Whether you can use/see the SD card depends on the phone and on the chosen USB connect mode.  On some phones you will see two "drives", one the SD card, the other the internal storage used by the phone for apps.

  • How do I get my phone out of recovery? Advanced. PLEASE HELP!

How do I get my phone out of recovery mode? I deleted and replaced my old lockdown folder and now I cant get it off the recovery screen no matter what I try. I have tried TinyUmbarella, and several other softwares. They all go through the process but when the phone comes back on it is still on the screen that says hook to itunes. When I hook to itunes and try to restore i get a 3194 error which i try to fix also and that doesnt work either. PLEASE HELP.

To restore to the original factory settings (no jbs permitted. sorry.)
    - Hold home and power to restart the iPhone
    - Have the iPhone plugged in while holding home
    - A popup on iTunes will show requesting you to restore your iPhone
    - Let go of home and restore your iPhone
    - "Restore as a new iPhone" or "Restore from Backup" will show after 15 minutes or less

  • How to disassemble Satellite L550-11H?

    Hi,
Like the tittle says, I would like to know how to disassemble my laptop.
I tried to remove all the screws but the damn bottom plastic didn't separate it self from the top plastic.
Has anyone had this problem before?

    Hi buddy,
For removing dust its really not necassary to disassemble the notebook because this can be done with compressed air spray. This spray can blow out the dust from cooling ventilators very easy and its cheap. You need only 5 minutes of your time. ;)
Check also this interesting article about cleaning the notebook:
[How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7A01ZZ000AR01.htm]
But let me give you a word of advice: Cleaning to remove dust is not covered by warranty so you must pay for this if you dont do it yourself!

  • How to disassemble AG240 2PE

Does any one know how to disassemble the AG240 2PE ?
Haven't found anything about this topic yet.
No comments about void warranty etc. needed as I do not care

Please refer to the steps below:
    1. Place the system horizontally on a flat and steady surface. Locate the two
screws that secure the stand. Unlock them and keep them for later use.
    2. Push to remove the stand carefully and set it aside for later use.
    3. Locate the ODD and its emergency eject hole.
    4. Insert a pin or unfolded paper clip into the hole and push the pin firmly until the disk compartment opens.
    5. Pull out the disk compartment and carefully detach the front bezel hooks.
    6. Push the disk compartment gently backwards until it closes.
    7. Locate the five screws that secure the rear cover. Unlock them and keep them for later use. Pull to remove the rear cover carefully and set it aside for later use.
    8. Locate the screw that secure the rear i/o cover. Unlock it and keep it for later use.
    9. Remove the rear i/o cover carefully and set it aside for later use.
    10. Locate the three screws that secure the metal shield. Unlock them and keep them for later use.
11 .Push to remove the metal shield carefully and set it aside for later use.

    Hello All,
I am working for a company that is purchasing refurbished 7942 phones for their system  Several of the phones have firmware that is two old and cannot be upgraded to the current ccm version.  I am not allowed (company policy) to install an older version on CCM so I am using tftp on a cisco 881 router to do the upgade to the jumper version that will allow me to up grade on ccm.

Once the phone has started the factory reset (upgrading process) is there a way that check the firmware.  Also I am not sure if it matter.  The phones were all set maunally to enable 802.1x.  Do I need to disable that prior to starting the firmware upgrade.  I found the phone that did work had that feature disabled after it came back up.
    Thank you

  • Hook Switch failure on 7941G phones in areas with no climate control

I have had an unusual amount of failures on some cp-7941G sets. The Hook switch starts to not function properly after a short time (couple of months). I have had three in just the last week. These phones were located in either a warehouse or guard shacks. We have also experienced this problem at another site near an indoor pool. We thought it might be humidity related. TAC says they have had no reports of this. We took one apart and tinkered with the hook switch this corrected the issue but only for a few days. Has anyone else seen this type of issue?

    Hi Tim,
    We have had a fair number of Hookswitch problems with 7940's and 7941G's. This is the most common hardware failure we have experienced. You have probably seen this Tech note;
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7900 Series
Best Practices for Cleaning and Troubleshooting Cisco IP Phone Hookswitch
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_tech_note09186a00801c0810.shtml
    This is the salient point of the article that applies 9 times out of 10;
"If none of the solutions above remedy the situation, Return Material Authorization (RMA) the phone."
We have found that the best (most reliable ) phone to use in the area around the indoor pool was a 7912.
    Hope this helps!

  • MI have a mini  Mac How do I do a standard clean up on it

Hello all! I have a mini mac how do i do a standard clean up on it.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; all should be made directly from the original data. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the App Store or Software Update preference pane (depending on the OS version), you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
Keeping up to date is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible. Incompatibility with third-party software is by far the most common cause of trouble with system updates.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, such stuff is useless or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
It's not much of an exaggeration to say that the whole "utility" software industry for the Mac is a fraud on consumers. The most extreme examples are the "CleanMyMac" and “MacKeeper” scams, but there are many others.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for, and doesn't change the way other software works.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction.  Some are malicious. Use with caution, and install only well-known extensions from relatively trustworthy sources, such as the Safari Extensions Gallery.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve. Do not rely on "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.
    4. Don't install bad, conflicting, or unnecessary fonts. Whenever you install new fonts, use the validation feature of the built-in Font Book application to make sure the fonts aren't defective and don't conflict with each other or with others that you already have. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. Deactivate or remove fonts that you don't really need to speed up application launching.
    5. Avoid malware. Malware is malicious software that circulates on the Internet. This kind of attack on OS X was once so rare that it was hardly a concern, but malware is now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must come directly from the developer's website. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from the web, without your having requested it, should go straight into the Trash. A web page that tells you that your computer has a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with it, is a scam.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    6. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem.
While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage use and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move seldom-used large files to secondary storage.
    7. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
To use a Mac effectively, you have to free yourself from the Windows mindset that every computer needs regular downtime maintenance such as "defragging" and "registry cleaning." Those concepts do not apply to the Mac platform. A computing device should not be a focus of your attention. It should be an almost invisible tool by means of which you communicate, work, and play. If you want a machine that is always whining for your attention like a neurotic dog, use a PC.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

my laptop had a virus and I am trying to sync my IPHONE 4 to my desktop, how can I sync my phone without losing all my music, apps and contacts?

You are talking about the menu bar of Itunes, right?
Yes. With iTunes open the menu bar is at the top of your screen.
where exactly is the Store/synck you iphone option?
After you authorize the computer connect your iPhone then follow the instructions here > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
When you are done transferring the data to the desktop, right or control click the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window then click Back Up.
That way you will have a backup just in case you need to restore your iPhone.

  • How do I block a phone number calling my iPhone?

How do I block a phone number calling my iPhone, so it only hears a busy tone?

You cannot do this on the iPhone - this is a feature/service that must be provided by the carrier. Contact your carrier and ask if they can do this. In the US, for example, AT&T offers as part of the SmartLimits package.

  • How do I add my phone's Wi-Fi Mac address to my home server so that I can use my home Wi-Fi with my phone?

Hello. I am using an Android cell phone and, though the phone sees my home server name and accepts my password, it won't connect. I understand that I may have to add my phone's Wi-Fi Mac address to my home server in order for it to allow my phone access, but I have no idea how I might do that. Could someone help me with this? Thank you.

You need to log out of iMessage and Facetime, make sure your number is correct in Settings/General/About, then log back in again to send a new activation request.
