How to disassemble Satellite L550-11H?

Hi,
Like the tittle says, I would like to know how to disassemble my laptop.
I tried to remove all the screws but the damn bottom plastic didn't separate it self from the top plastic.
Has anyone had this problem before?

Hi buddy,
For removing dust its really not necassary to disassemble the notebook because this can be done with compressed air spray. This spray can blow out the dust from cooling ventilators very easy and its cheap. You need only 5 minutes of your time. ;)
Check also this interesting article about cleaning the notebook:
[How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7A01ZZ000AR01.htm]
But let me give you a word of advice: Cleaning to remove dust is not covered by warranty so you must pay for this if you dont do it yourself!

  • How to disassemble Satellite P850-321 notebook?

Can anyone explain to me how to remove the keyboard please, i have removed all but 3 screws on the underside of the laptop as the 3 remaining screws dont seem to want to come out!? I can tighten them but unscrewing them seems to be the problem... are they screws that undo but dont come out like the back plate covering?
I have removed all the hardware such as HDD, RAM, wireless card and ODD.
I need to get to the FAN as that needs replacing.
    Cheers
    Alan.

    Hi thanks for your reply...
yeah i know it would void the warranty, however it is out of warranty anyway, i am a Computer technitian. i managed to get the keyboard out this morning.
do you have any ideas why the laptop comes up with the warning message to get a service because of overheating?
i have cleared a very small amount of dust from the fan. i have removed and reseated the fan and since then, the message has not come up. i ran tons of applications to try and get the message to come up again to no avail which to my understanding and diagnosis the issue is fixed.
however, since this is a customers laptop i want to make sure the problem is fixed.
there seems to be a huge number of people with the same problem when they get a warning message and is a fault of toshiba and something to do with "value added packages/applications" software.
i couldn't find this software at all and the laptop itself is very clean.
    thank you for your help.

  • How to disassemble Satellite S70-A laptop?

From my experience, most of the Toshiba laptop require a strip over the keyboard to be removed before proceeding with the laptop maintenance. In these series I think this is not the case. I tried removing the bottom chassis of the laptop but there seems to be something holding it down.
I also tried to remove the keyboard, but to no avail, it won't budge.
    How do I approach this?

Yes, it is quite new and still on warranty. but I need to leave the country in a few weeks so I'd rather try to fix the problem myself and lose the warranty than be left with no laptop.
My problem is an audio jack socket that seems to be a bit loose and when I connect my headphones and accidentaly move the jack a little bit, it only plays one channel or nothing at all.

    Hello
Your posting is pretty confusing and it is not easy to understand you.
I dont understand which setup file you want to use but you cannot install operating system with click on some setup file.
You can install Windows 7 using Toshiba recovery image (if you got one) or using original Microsoft Windows 7 installation disc.
So please be nice and explain to me which disc do you have and how do you try to install Windows 7.

  • Satellite L550-1CC starts with Consistancy disks check

    Hi all
    I have a Satellite L550-1CC, running Windows 7.
Recently on start up I have been receiving the message " one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency " and then it runs a scan, and after 2 0r 3 minutes boots up to windows as normal.
This does not happen all the time, but recently has been more often than not.
Have I a problem with my hard disk?
    Any sugestions?

    Hi Xardas
I have noticed no noise from the HDD.
I have just checked Windows Event Viewer as you suggest and it has come up with lots of Warnings, around 50 or so, and even more Errors, about 100, that's just today.
The first error is "McAfee Real-time Scanner", however this program is not installed.
How do I get rid of this?

  • Satellite L550 - System specifications

Have looked through searches but no luck - just need to find out whether my satellite L550 with i5 4GR running Windows 7 Pro has the capability of supporting an eSATA external drive that I want to build as the usb ready mades take forever to backup etc.
It has been suggested to me to find out if my machine's mobo is able to "hot swap" and is in AHCI mode - but how do i find out this info from the machine? Am fairly new to this sort of stuff and any help would be really appreciated.
Just as a matter of interest too - if I can use such a device is it "removed" in the same way as a USB device?

Hiyya Xardas my L550 is marked as PSLWSA-01000Q - is this what you mean?
I was just after something on the machine that willl tell me whether or not I can use an external eSATA HDD for backup and Scott Muellers site states that these come as 1.5 or 3 Gb transfer rates and to check to see what one's machine is capable of before setting the drive to one of those settings.
For example the drives come usually as 3Gb but have a lead that halves those different rates for compatability reasons for the machine one is using it on. In my case it is this Satellite.
Sorry to be a nuisance but I find the backups using USB externals take so long.
    Regards
    J

  • Re: Satellite L550 - Installation kit is missing

    Hi everybody,
my girlfriend asked me to re-install Windows 7 (64bit) on her Toshiba Satellite L550 because OS isn't working properly anymore. Unfortunately she doesn't know where she stored installation and recovery kit. So I have to assume that media kit which once was delivered with the notebook is lost now.
Does anyone know if installation or recovery media can be obtained from Toshiba, maybe as ISO image to download?
Thanks in advance for all help!
    Thomas

    Hi buddy,
What do you think about reading the user manual? If you dont have it, you can download it from Toshiba page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_manuals.jsp
User manual describes all functions about the notebook very detailed. Thats very useful documentation in my opinion.
Anyway, first of all you do something wrong you should know that recovery disk are not delievered with computer anymore. You have to create such a disk yourself using preinstalled recovery disk creator from Toshiba.
These disks can restore Windows every time even Windows cant start it anymore or you install another HDD. The disks can always restore out of box settings.
If you have created the recovery disk you can use HDD recovery feature to reinstall Windows. Its described here:
[How to recover a Toshiba notebook with the HDD recovery procedure? |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=58]
And if nothing would work you have the possibility of ordering such recovery medias from Toshiba but its not for free:

  • Satellite L550-13K - Shared memory option working?

    Hi,
Can anybody please help with the performance of the Video ?
According to the specification of Toshiba the Video card has a shared memory option until 1.759Mb with a w7 64bit system.
When playing WoW I am experiancing massive video performance issues even when my video options are on the lowest settings. In multi-player environment my average fps is 6.
According to Tempro the system is fully up to date.
Considering the options, I am questioning whether the shared memory option works. During the game the 4Gb internal memory is used for only 42%. This would theoretically exclude and lack of internal memory. In the past you could allocate memory in BIOS, but that seems to have been automated. Also the video driver does not seem to give any options, except for the 3d options where I have set the usage of driver memory to high.
How to determine whether this option actually works ? and where can it be configured in order to force it.
Thanks for your help in advance. H

    Hi buddy,
Quad is right, there is nothing what you can do to improve the shared memory for graphic card. Everything will be controlled automatically. Just make sure you have the maximum RAM capacity installed, then you will have the highest video memory.
Satellite L series is not designed for gaming. Its great for office, Internet, videos, photos, etc. but not the best notebook for gaming. Therefore the graphic card is not powerful enough.
Satellite A series is better but Qosmio series is great for games. :)

  • Adjusting screen brightness and contrast on Satellite L550-113

I am a visually impaired user and I'm thinking of purchasing the Satellite L550-113, but before I do that I need to be sure that the screen brightness/contrast can be adjusted very easily, preferably via hardware controls as opposed to via the control panel. I also need to be sure that one can make the screen quite dull (i.e. too dull for a non-disabled user).
Could anyone give advice on how to adjust the screen contrast and brightness on the Toshiba L550-113? Also, does the screen have a glossy or matt finish?
Any general information on the quality and ease of use of the screen will be extremely useful and highly appreciated! Thank you.

    Hi mate!
Yes, the screen brightness can easily adjust via FN keys. You have to press FN+F7 to increase the screen brightness and FN+F6 to reduce the screen brightness. Furthermore in Vista power management you can also adjust the screen brightness and save the settings for different power profiles and on batter or on power mode.
As far as I know Satellite L550 has a gloss finish screen as other Satellite notebooks.
I hope I could help you a little bit! :)

  • Satellite L550-11k - HDMI + VGA at the same time?

    Hi there,
I have Satellite L550-11k laptop, and i was wondering if i can have external monitor working hooked up on VGA port and HDMI monitor working ( or just audio from hdmi ) at the same time.
I tried and have no luck making it work together.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 as OS, and i think it's not problem related to operating system.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards

I was able to select HDMI and VGA,( my built in monitor turned off ) but as i don't have a third monitor ( only laptop one and one external ) i could not test is there a picture on HDMI output but i can say there is no sound so i assume there is no picture also. I just needed sound from HDMI. Maybe i will be able to test it on summer. Thanks on your quick reply. I was wondering is this is a limitation of the graphics adapter ? By the way, it seems Dynadock is not compatible with Linux operating systems.

  • ODD on my Satellite L550-11J is damaged - looking for new suitable device

    hello,
the dvr device of my toshiba satellite L550-11J (bought in 2009) with windows vista 64 seems to be broken. it is a "pioneer dvd-rw dvrtd09a". it doesn`t show on windows anymore, not in the explorer, not in the device manager (if this s the english name of it, i don`t know, i am german speaking). it doesn`t even show in the bios or boot device, so i think it is not a software problem but the hardware is broken.
which new dvr device is suitable for my notebook? i cannot find the same dvr device on amazon or elsewhere to buy, so i guess i need another one that suits.please help.
    best wishes
    no-idea

    addendum:
sometimes, the dvr device is back for a little while, but 90% of the time it is not recognized. i guess it has a defective contact. i already took it out, blew into it and but it back in. no result. it has power and it can be opened and closed. cd`s that are put in are turning for a few seconds, than it stops.
when the device is gone, it cannot be found in the bios!!!

  • How to disassemble a 7942 phone / clean hook switch

    Hello,
does anyone have a guide how to disassemble a 7942/62 phone without damaging it?
Would be nice to know for example to clean the phone or to repair / replace hook switch.
    Thanks,
    Bernhard

    Hi Bernhard,
I just took apart a broken 7942 to test the method, but
it seems like they may have changed the design at some point
as this one had 9 screws on the back and a plastic clip on the side
housing to the left of the Hookswitch. It seems like your 7942 may be
more like the method described here
