How to disassociate a NAS?

My laptop refuses to go to sleep.
I went to the Apple Store and it was determined that there were a few items causing issues at sleep, we removed them all, except in the log it was clear that the Iomega NAS I have on my home network was also a culprit.
I have turned off file sharing on this laptop, but the NAS still is "available" in the "shared" menu and still causing issues.
How do I disassociate this NAS from this computer?
Thanks,
Henry

  • How I Set My NAS Up with iTunes...

Just had an interesting week trying to move my 200GB library from my iMac to a new NAS (Synology DS409+). Thought I'd post how I managed it, with props to some other people on here for their insightful suggestions...
Set up the iTunes folder inside the Music shared folder on the NAS. Then tried to "consolidate library" which failed after a few hours:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "music" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
Copy had been going well up to that point, but the error message was unhelpful in trying to pin down what was causing the problem, although the last item transferred was a Protected Audio file from the iTMS...googling around, it seems a few people have had issues transferring iTMS purchases, so I removed all mine (only around 30 or so) to a special folder, for separate handling later. I also found a couple of PDF booklets and a few Aperture projects (??!!) lurking in the recesses of my library, so I pulled them too. Some very bright spark also suspected that the "consolidate library" command seems to choke on more than 40GB of files, so following that principle, I sorted my library by album, and highlighted chunks of tracks totalling around 39GB, before right-clicking and selecting "Consolidate tracks..."
This worked flawlessly, and I moved all my music files to their new home in 4 stages. I still had around 43GB of podcasts to go, so I thought I'd try them in one go, and very quickly, the copy hung, and I got the error message back, so there definitely seems to be some voodoo around this 40GB limit, on Macs at least.
Some glitches popped up initially following this. The iTunes browser was now showing that I had an additional 30GB of files, for more or less the same number of items (I'd been taking frequent screenshots throughout the process, which I recommend as a quick way of keeping tabs on things...the DS409+ takes about 10 minutes to calculate a folder size of 200GB). I sorted the library by size, and the top one was a file of 27.9GB...a 3 minute ska track no less, from the album "100% Dynamite". I highlighted it, and after a few seconds, it changed by itself to a Massive Attack track, from the album "100th Window", with a size of 6.8MB, and the total size in the status bar duly returned to normal. I checked the playlists for both albums, and they each contained tracks from the other, along with a couple of tracks from a third album called "100% Groove". So far, these seem to have been the only issues that I can find, but I'm curious why only albums/playlists containing the number "100" seem to have been affected.
Before reaching this solution, I'd tried rsyncing my iTunes folder from the HDD to the share, and pointing to it in the iTunes preferences. As I've always let iTunes keep the folder organised, I figured it should handle this OK, but it didn't. About 10% of my tracks went "missing" (mainly classical & compilation stuff) even though the actual files were at the same relative path on the share. Looked around for methods to automatically re-link them, but that's still not so easy, and I certainly wasn't going to locate all 1600 tracks individually. In the past, I'm pretty sure I edited the .xml library file with the new path (find /old/ replace with /new/), and that was sufficient, but it doesn't seem to work with iTunes 9, any changes being ignored upon relaunch. Which makes me wonder what's so special about the proprietary library file, and why bother to keep the .xml file hanging around? You can re-import this, but at the cost of losing a lot of metadata.
The iTunes Library files are still in my Home folder on my HDD, and I don't really see any need to enable the iTunes Server on the NAS yet, especially as I access most of my music using the Remote.app and Airport Express. I'd recommend anybody else doing this to make frequent backups of the iTunes library files at intervals during this operation, in case you need to get back to a last known good configuration. If a big consolidation fails, you can't really tell which tracks (or their references) have been successfully relocated, so your library now straddles two locations, and I'm not convinced iTunes can deal with that properly when you re-attempt the consolidation. So after each batch of 39GB, I'd quit iTunes, duplicate the library files, and relaunch for the next batch.

    Settings->iTunes and Apps Store->Sign In.
You probably also want to sign into the Cloud with
    Settins->iCloud->Sign in.

  • How to install iPlanet & NAS on same machine

    Hi,
We have successfully installed iPlanet 6.0 SP3 on solaris in a webless
mode. But both Webserver and App. server are running in the same
machine. Now we have a requirement, that one other group wants to share
the same machine, wherein they want to install NAS 4.0 on the same
    machine.
Is it possible to install both App. server on the machine, while sharing
    the webserver.
I Would appreciate if any one can say, if this is doable and how.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Veera

You can do that if you put iAS and NAS on two different web server
instances (http daemons). However, you might not get support on it so
you better check with iplanet support before you put something like this
into production. For development environments it should not be a
    problem.

  • How can I backup NAS drive to Time Capsule using Time Machine?

My itunes library is on a USB HD that's connected to my time capsule, essentially turning the drive into a NAS drive. Is there anyway I can include this drive in time machine backups? So basically, time machine would be backing up the hard drive connected to the time capsule... to the time capsule.
    Thanks. Steve

Sorry, but not possible. The Time Capsule can only backup an internal drive on a computer and an external drive that is attached directly to a computer.

  • How touse an external NAS to hold your iPhoto library?

Hi, I'm new to Mac. I want to start using iPhoto which seems to be amazing.
Problem: I have a NAS hooked up to my wireless network at home. Both my wife and I always download our camera's photos to the NAS so they are safe and easy to find from our different computers, media players, etc. I have several hundred GB's of photos and don't want to import them all to my new MacBookPro' hard disk. I want to keep them on the NAS.
Question: Can I configure iPhoto so that it keeps it's iPhoto Library on my NAS instead of on my local hard drive on my laptop? I used to do this whith iTunes when I used iTunes on a PC so I'm guessing there is some kind of similar solution.
THANKS for your help and time!!!
    Regards,
    Willem

Can I configure iPhoto so that it keeps it's iPhoto Library on my NAS instead of on my local hard drive on my laptop?
No. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Options: and these are less than ideal
You can run a Referenced Library when the Library is on the Hard Drive of your Mac but the photos are stored on the NAS. I strongly recommend that you don't do that. This discussion will explain the pitfalls of such an arrangement:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3062728?tstart=0
You can put the Library on a Disk Image formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  and store that on the NAS. But you'll need to mount the Disk Image ech time you use the Library.
    More things to consider:
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
At heart, iPhoto is a $15 app aimed at the guy with a Mac and a camera. He takes snaps of the kids an dsends them to Grandma. He takes snaps on holidays. The app has no cross platform ability, and while sharing with other iPhoto users is possible, it's limited or risky.

  • How to restore from NAS in recovery mode

    Hello
i backed up my iMac in NAS N7700 , I tried to backup from the recovery mode but it doesn't show up in the menu , I tried to mount the AFP volume and it doesn't work WHAT'S THE PROPER WAY TO DO IT
    Thanks

I am not sure about the N7700.. many non-apple NAS do not store TM backups correctly.. but then I am not sure it is time machine.
    See the info here..
    http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html
    Setup and Migration assistant.
Also look at Q14-17 in FAQ.
That also covers recovery . .but all is about Time Machine which you have not suggested you are using.

  • How to disassociate RAW and JPEG

I've RAW & JPEG files of same picture. If I move RAW to a different folder in Bridge JPEG file moves too. How to stop it?

    IrinaG,
My test shows the same pattern.  If you want them to move seperatly make name of jpg and raw different.  I even nuked the XMP file but that did not make any difference.

  • Ideal backup for 2 macs? How to integrate a NAS with AEBS?

    Hello together,
I do have the following setup at home: a Mac Mini to serve my music, pictures and stuff and an MacBook Air for the rest. All that is connected with an AirPort Extreme.
So far things were good: I had an external drive that I used with TimeMachine to backup to the external drive of the MacMini (which had two partitions). Now the drive broke down and I'm thinking of a way to accomplish backup in future.
    My options are:
    - Buy an external drive and connect it to the Mac Mini: I would prefer to not do that. The external drive just broke and I don't want to go through that again. Also, in this case the backup from the MacBook Air only works if the Mac Mini is on.
    - Buy an external drive and connect it to the AEBS via USB: Nice, I can backup whenever I want. Still the issue of a single drive that could break down any time
    - Buy a NAS with a raid 1 or 5 and have it in the network: Love the idea of a NAS with RAID. But not sure if NAS is supported by TimeMachine (is that one resolved? Not keen on spending a lot of money to have an "unsupported" solution in the end)
    - Buy a NAS with RAID and have it connected as USB drive to my AEBS (is this solution "more supported" than the pure NAS solution? (I tried to connect a drive to the AEBS and it showed up with no extra tricks performed in the Mac Mini as a "supported" drive in the TimeMachine preferences.
So, any ideas? What do you guys do? Any advice?
Just a word on TimeCapsulate: I think it is a bit too insecure since it doesn't have RAID and also it seems to be unnecessary since I do have the AEBS.

I have a NAS for photos and music that I use as a server for sharing with my two macs. I used GlobalSan software (free to download) to set up a iscsi on my qnap nas. TIme machine works on it. Its not difficult to do and I not an IT person.

  • How do you attach NAS to lion

I had an ethernet hard drive on my network and all was good until i replaced my MBP (snow leopard) with a new MBA (lion).  Now i can"t see my external drive.  I can still see it on one of my old Macs.
    What do I do?

First thing is to check the the manufactor of the drive to see if it's compatible with Lion. There may be firmware updates you need to install.
You might also check the finder prefs (general tab and sidebar tab) to make sure you have it to show the external drive or connected servers in the sidebar or on the desktop.

  • How can use all vcenter feature such as HA and drs without shared storage

    Hi
    i have 2 esxi host dl 380g8
but i don't have any shared storage or san now i want use vcenter feature like ha and drs now for use this features do i have to run VSAN?
i readed for for use vsan we have to buy ATLEAST ONE ssd disk is this trure?
    ssd disk is necessary?
atleast one ssd disk for each host ?
can use from all of vcenter feature with VSAN ?
    please some help me

    Hi,
For VSAN you need at LEAST 3 hosts (4 recommended).
Each host must have 1 SSD for read cache/write buffer.
Do you have any storage at all? How about running a NAS such as "OpenFiler" or "FreeNAS". That way you can present shared storage via that way. (I'd use this in Lab only). These NAS O/S's also work as virtual machines so you can turn any disk into shared storage.

  • Need help seeting op a nas

    Hi everybody.
I need some help here! I recently purchased a sonos system, and now a verbatim nas. I never guessed it would be that difficult to set it up, but I am having problems with the basic things.
First of all can´t I find out how to "see" the Nas on my macbook? I can ping it, but it doesn´t show anywhere else? In the manual it says I should be able to access via: finder/network/workgroup! But I cant see it under network.
How do I access the NAS from my computer??
    Thanks in advance

    Hej,
(excuse my Danish, but it was my 4th language and I don't get as much practice in the USA as I should)

  • Help with NAS (Network Audio System) setup.

Anyone having any ideas how to set up this? I couldn't find any documentation, no howtos, no help, just an obscure nasd.con.eg in the package.
Has anyone managed to set up a client and a server for this system, it'd be really useful to me...

Idd, seeking is hard and really hacky (:D) to implement with the two process solution. :\ You can use the
    extern-movie.sh 10.0.0.4 movie.mkv 124
to seek where you want in the files, but you'd have to exit the script, then restart the script in the middle of a movie ... :\ Writing a plugin for MPlayer might kinda defeat the simplistic design of rsound. Shouldn't be hard to implement though. I made an rsound client in python in like 5 mins, so shouldn't be too hard.
As for NAS: http://linux.die.net/man/1/nasd this helped a little, but it really looks like legacy software. "When the Network Audio System server starts up, it takes over /dev/audio."
I've been trying to get nas up and running, and it wasn't hard to get it to play some stuff with mplayer, but it feels quite broken using the default config + mplayer. Might be my alsa emulation of course, but mplayer showed hickups, erratic framerate (-autosync 100 helped against this), bad sound quality, and a couple of crashes.
You could try this from the command line. Shouldn't need to set-up any config file yet.
    sudo nasd -aa
And running this in another shell:
    mplayer <movie> -ao nas
Try it locally, not sure how to set up nas to connect to extern servers. :\

  • NAS and Cisco 877W

I bought a NAS using Samba and FTP server and plug it on one ethernet port on my 877W router. I can see the shared drive on every computer plug in to my router but can't see it on my wirless laptop or clients. I can see all devices (printers, SAT receivers, access point, etc..) wired to my router except the NAS. Anyone can help me on how to configure my 877W to see the NAS?

Thanks for replying.... Can't ping NAS from wireless computer. I already disabled the firewall and its the same. At the moment I'm running IOS ADVIPVERVICESK9-12.4.9T. Do i still need to upgrade this, i think the latest is 12.4.15T? Also, I connected the NAS to an access point which is connected to my Cisco 877W as a client and it works fine. I think its my running config but I'm still not that good in setting it up. Do you know how to add the NAS in the running config? Attached is my running-config.
