How to disconnect wireless(antenna) transmission? I am using Ethernet connection only

How do I disconnect wireless(antenna) transmission? I am using Ethernet connection only.

Log into your router by going to 192.168.1.1 - username should be admin and password could be any of the following:
password
password1
the serial number of our router (look at the sticker located on the bottom/side of the router)
There should be an option there to turn the wireless radio off.

  • How can I tell if my computer is using ethernet or wireless for downloads?

    Hi,
My computer is hooked up via ethernet to my router (base station) which is connected to my DSL modem, and I also have my Airport on because I have extended my network with an airport express so I can stream music to my stereo across the room using iTunes.
I've noticed in the Airport menu that my computer is connected also to my wireless network which I use for getting online with my iPad.
Can I assume that my computer will use ethernet and NOT wireless for accessing the internet, downloading files, etc?
How can I tell which network connection is being used? Are there tools for monitoring the network that would allow me to easily determine if a particular download is going over the ethernet or the wireless connection?
Clearly, I want to use the hard line ethernet connection for everything and use the wifi only for my streaming music function for speed purposes...
    Thanks!!!!
    Elisabeth

    Hi,
Internet is served on the priority basic from the System Prefrences Network pane.
If ethernet is on top you getting it from ethernet if Airport and so on...
So depending on internet speeds set the priority to access fast internet speeds.

  • How do I configure my Time Capsule to use ethernet?

Over my Wifi, the estimated backup time is 72 days so guessing an ethernet cable will be substantially faster but don't see a place to configure the Time Machine/Time Capsule interface to default to an ethernet connection.   Anyone know how???
    Thanks

In most cases, once you connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule, you are automatically setup for backup over Ethernet. Nothing else is required.
The exception would be if you configured your Time Capsule to "join" your wireless network using wireless only. In that case the Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled, so backup over Ethernet woud not be possible unless you reconfigured your Time Capsule in a different manner.

  • How do I share files between two Macs using ethernet?

I have two Macs, both running OS X 10.4.11. How can I connect them using ethernet in order to transfer files back and forth?
    Pete

I have an ethernet hub with both computers connected to it. You may be able to just connect the two computers with a cable, but it might have to be a "Crossover cable"
Go to your system preferences>>Sharing and turn of file sharing for each or both computers.
Then go to the Finder>>Go>>Network and the other computer should show up there. Click to connect.
You will have a choice to connect under a password or as a guest. If you want security, set up passwords, otherwise just use guest.

  • How to use ethernet connections on a TC that joined other wireless network?

My TC is setup to join a Linksys wireless network and works fine as network drive and backup utility for Time Machine.
I have a HP all in one printer connected to the TC by ethernet cable but that printer is not getting an IP address. When I connect the ethernet cable to the Linksys router (in another room) it gets the IP address right away.
Is it possible at all to connect the printer by ethernet cable to a TC that joins another wireless network?
If so what do I need to change?
    Thanks,
    Menno

On the Mac that the printer is plugged into, go to System Preferences/Sharing and turn on Printer Sharing.
The rest of the Macs can now use the shared printer as long as that Mac is turned on...

  • Time Capsule is connected wirelessly and I need to use ethernet ports for other devices.

I have a 1st Gen Time capsule 802.11n and an Airport Extreem round hockey puck style.  My airport utillity program is version 6.2  My OS is 10.7.5 My internet is from a verizon hot spot Jetpak. All my devices, laptop, desk top, printer, and time machine are running off this jetpak.
How can I use the ethernet ports on the back of my time capsule for a device that I had pluged in to my airport extreem?  Before I had verizon, I had hughes net for my internet provider. My time capsule was the main unit in a WDS network with the airport extreem. I no longer have Hughes Net and I need to run this item that was pluged into the airport extreem ethernet port.
Of course with the newer airport utillity software (6.2) I can not control the older airport extreem anymore. This does not help my situation

You need to load the older utility.. 5.6 is still available for lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
WDS is hidden option so hold down the option key..
But I would search around for a cheap airport extreme N square type.. doesn't matter how old and you can pick up the older ones for $50 or so easily.. Then you use wireless extend which works much better than WDS. Using WDS you are killing wireless speed for everything.

  • How do i print from my mac book using printer connected to my Imac

I am trying to print from my Mac book by using the printer connected to my Imac however i keep getting a notice which says
Authentication required.what am i missing? I set them up to share printing but something is wrong

Before trying to figure out if I can help or not, a bit more specific information is needed:
    1. You list an iMac G5 in your profile - is that the iMac you are using? In that case, you'd get more knowledgeable answers in the G5 forums (this is an Intel iMac forum). If you have an Intel, please give more details (model, etc).
    2. What model/make printer? Does it have wireless capabilities?
    3. What model/make router? Or are you simply trying to use the built in Airport from your iMac? In that case, do you have printer sharing enabled on both machines? If so, did you create a network? For detailed info on that, use the Help Menu in Finder and type in Network - one of the subjects available will be "creating a computer-to-computer network". It contains instructions on how to create it including a password (authentication).
You might also try to use the search function on this forum and type in "printer sharing". There are many threads, some of which might be useful to you.

  • How to transfer files from PC to Mac using Ethernet cable?

I am a brand new PC to Mac convert and loving it. I'm just having trouble transferring my files from my PC to my MacBook Pro. I have my PC and Mac connected with an ethernet cable. I'm just not sure what steps I need to take from there. I guess I have to turn on file sharing on my PC but I'm pretty much lost from there. Is there a tutorial or how-to on how to do this? I tried the one on the Apple site but it didn't really help that much

See if one of these methods will work for you:

  • How to route two vlans on two switches that are connected only on one router?

Suppose that any of the trunk links fails or if you want, suppose that there is no link between SW1 (G0/1) and SW2 (G0/1). How can you make computers in Vlan 10 to see computers in Vlan 20 and viceversa?. I tried creating a bridge group on the router for G0/0.10-G1/0.10 and another for G0/0.20-G1/0.20. Then define interface BVI10 and BVI20. Interfaces came up but you can not configure dot1q on them and switches can not see them. Anyways with one interface on the bridge group going down the BVI interface goes down as well so that's not an option. Router should be 10.10.10.1 and 20.20.20.1 and each computer have that as gateway respectively.

    Jody thanks very much!
Indeed the encapsulation was done in the sub-interfaces, as posted in the OP you can not [encap dot1q X] on the BVI interface. Even though, the switches didn't established the trunk with the BVI. Anyways using bridge groups is not an acceptable solution because with the failure of any interface of the trunk links in the router, the BVI interface goes down as well.
You said "if I want to handle it at layer 2" How will you do it at layer 3? I though something like HSRP or VRRP but that doesn't apply since it is only one router. Remember, the router must be able to route between vlan10 and vlan20 for computers on both switches in case of one of the trunk link failure.
This is for learning purposes so I started with Packet Tracer but PT doesn't support bridge groups. Then I tried GNS3. I will try with the router in GNS3 with a switch module but I'm not clear. that will be like having a 3rd switch, right?  What I mean is that I will not be using routed interfaces between the router and the switches, right?

  • HT204350 How many hours (maximum) does it take to migrate 400  GB from one MacBook Pro to another MBP using Ethernet connection?

How long do I need for migrating data from old MBP to a new MBP?

The fastest way would be to connect the two computers over Firewire, start the new MBP in Target Mode, and either clone the whole hard drive from the old MBP or only copy across the things you need. Doing it that way would take about 1-2 hours depending on how much stuff you're copying.
Ethernet would be a lot slower.

  • How do I set the print preference to use black ink only?

Despite having a color printer, I want to print in grayscale , black ink only, by default

That depends on your printer and the software that came with the printer. You can consult your printer manual or the online site for your printer manufacturer.
Generally, to change for the '''current session only''', File > Print, click Properties, in the new window see what options are offered. Take special note whether there is an option to use black cartridge only.
To change for '''all future sessions''', click (Windows) Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes, click you printer from the list, in the new window, click Printer > Printing Preferences. You will see the same window as in the instructions for '''current session only''' above, see what options are offered and look for use black cartridge only option. You may need to restart your computer. Test by printing one page that contains colored text or elements.

  • How do I extend an existing wireless network with a 2nd time capsule?  I want to tether them with a gigabit ethernet connection.

I am having trouble with extending a wireless network using 2 timecapsules (1 is 1 terrbyte hdd, the other has a 2TB HDD.)  The first one is connected to the WAN (cable modem) and our LAN.  I would like to connect the 2nd one to the ethernet LAN and have it 'rebroadcast' the 1st ones wireless n network in order to expand the overall range of the network.  Your help is very much appreciated.

Suggest that you download and install the much more useful AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion.
I assume that Time Capsule 1 is operating correctly at this time.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Select Time Capsule 1 and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons and make a note of each of the setttings on this Wireless page.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable is connected to the WAN "O" port on Time Capsule 2.
Open up AirPort Utility and select Time Capsule 2 and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons and enter the exact same settings that you wrote down for Time Capsule 1
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Make sure that the settings look like this:
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update and allow 25-30 seconds for Time Capsule 2 to restart to a green light
Very important......perform a power cycle of the entire network as follows:
Power off every device in any order that you wish
    Wait a minute
Power up the modem and let it run for minute by itself
Power up Time Capsule 1 the same way
Power up Time Capsule 2 the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time the same way until the entire network is back up
