How much space does a Windows 7 install take on a Mac?

Installation of Windows 7 is required at least around 20GB of disk space 64bit version, 32bit version is around 16GB, 100GB is a sensible amount of disk space for a Windows installation, I suppose.

You can purchase the Snow Leopard DVD at the Apple Store. It ships as 10.6.3 so you'll need to do a software update to get to 10.6.8.

  • T440s clean windows 7 install - touchpad crash

    Hi,
I just got a new T440s. I was very happy until I tried to do a clean windows 7 install. Everythings seems to work fine, except for the touchpad. As soon as I install the synaptics driver (i've tried from the lenovo site, the synaptics site, and from the previous installation's file), the synaptics enhancments program crashes, and I no longer have guestures working (specifically scroll). It crashes again if I try to run it manually. When I reboot, it also crashes on startup. I've tried reinstalling the driver and even reinstalling windows once more, but to no avail.
Can anyone help? I'm going nuts...
    Thanks!

  • How to download a clean Windows 8 pro iso?

I want to remove all the lenovo bloatware, and install a clean window 8 copy.
The first step is to find a clean windows 8 iso. However, the windows setup or window upgrade assistant wouldn't allow me to download any windows copy.
How can I download a clean windows 8 iso? I assume the version I shall use for Windows 8 pro is en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso.
    Thanks for sharing!

Have you tried doing the download on another computer, if one is available?
The only problem that might crop up is the clean copy you are trying to download maybe what is called a "retail" copy.  Your system has what is known as a "OEM" COA sticker on it.  I'm not sure about Windows 8, but back in the day of Windows XP you needed a OEM install disc in order to use a OEM key.
Also if your download source is from a torrent, it might not be so clean.  File shared copies aren't immune from having spyware or malware in them.  You might be better off just cleaning up the Lenovo bloatware on your present install.

  • Just ordered my first Thinkpad (X1 Carbon). How can I do a clean Windows 8 install?

I just ordered my first Thinkpad - I got the X1 Carbon. Adding Windows 8 Pro was an additional $50, but I already have a Windows 8 Pro Upgrade disc and the external DVD drive to install it. Is there anything specific to Thinkpads that I need to know when doing clean install of Windows 8?

    Hi, masonade
Firstly, you'll want to make sure you have the latest BIOS, found here. Secondly, you need to boot into the BIOS by pressing Enter at POST to interrupt startup and then press F1 to go into BIOS. Once in BIOS, Secure Boot underneath Security ► Secure Boot needs to be set to Disabled and Boot mode underneath Startup needs to be set to UEFI. Once this is done, connect the external drive and interrupt startup at POST again, but now press F12 to choose and boot from the external device. Then all that needs to be done is follow the instructions to install Windows 8.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • [Solved]How to fix grub after Windows XP install?

I installed Windows XP on top of Arch in a different partition.
    It looks something like this:
    /dev/sda1 - XP
    /dev/sda2 - Arch
    /dev/sda3 - Swap
Grub is located on /dev/sda2/ in /boot/grub/
Windows XP obviously overwritten the mbr like it normally does.
I tried loading the arch live install cd, and trying grub-install /dev/sda and /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 but it doesn't do anything.
I want to overwrite Windows XP's boot loader with grub and add XP as an option to boot. Can someone please give me noob friendly instructions on how to accomplish this with minimal effort? It's important I don't damage the XP or Arch partitions. Thanks for any help.

I fixed it! Nearly the same instructions as lucke gave but I just used the Arch Live cd. All I did was boot Arch Live cd, it presented me with grub and bunch of options. (I didn't even boot into the cd) just pressed C so it loaded the grub terminal.
    Then:
    find /boot/grub/stage1
    Which outputs:
    root (hdX,Y)
(In my case it was hd0,1)
    Then:
    root (hdX,Y)
[Don't forget there is space after root and (hdX,Y)]
    Finally:
    setup hd0

  • How to restart iTunes after Windows re-install

Hi, I hope someone out there can help me. My computer crashed and I had to reinstall Windows (XP Pro). The computer guy moved my iTunes to another drive so the reinstall did not overwrite iTunes. I can see my iTunes music in folders, but when I go to play them, they open in a whole new version of iTunes that was not - at the beginning - populated with any music and, obviously, the new iTunes contains none of my playlists or rankings for any of my songs. I'm not a computer genius (or anywhere close), so I'm not sure what's happened or how I can get my old iTunes reactivated so I don't have to recreate playlists or re-rank my songs. Many thanks!

Authorize iTunes install from the tool bar.
If library was backed up properly you can tell iTunes to use the library file that was backed up. If not backed up properly then add the files to iTunes yourself then recreate any playlists you want.

Win 8 is not supported until 10.1.5 as described here: Overview — Acrobat and Adobe Reader Release Notes
    Get the update here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/10.x/10.1.5/misc/

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you, George.  That is just what I was trying to do.
I am installing windows 7 on a T-43 with a new 320 GB HDD. I know about the problem.  With the Windows 7 DVD in the slot, I boot and
a window comes up "Installing Windows"  then
    Load driver
Select the driver to be installed
Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer?
    Browse        Rescan
I have tried every file that appears when I browse, but none is installed.
    It then tells me
"No device drivers were found.  Make sure that the
installation media contains the right drivers and click next"
I believe the "installation media" is the Windows 7 DVD and I don't think there are
any IBM/Lenovo drivers on it.  Does anyone know what can I do to get beyond this
    place?
I must've missed something because it is usually easier than this, or I AM getting
    SLOWER. . .
I have downloaded all the Windows 7 drivers for the T-43 1875 DLU and have
them on a flash drive ready to drag and drop into Windows 7 when it appears. I am
DOS ignorant, having started to learn computers
in 1995, with Windows 3, I believe.  I am now 81 years old and slowing fast.
I'd like to get this laptop set up for my old age!

  • How can I get clean MT LION install to use my backup?

Hi, I have a 3 year old imac that was running like crap.  I upgraded to 4 gigs of ram, erased the hard drive and did a clean install of Mountain Lion.  Before cleaning the hard drive, I had time machine do a backup onto an external USB 1 tb hard drive.  It created a folder called backups.backupdb. On the install it gave me the option of bringing everything over from the backup.  I did not want to do that because I suspected several of the user accounts were crapped up and I wanted to start completely fresh.  I assumed (which by now I should know better) that I would be able to start time maching and have it see my time machine backup and then I could go in and pick out docs and emails that I wanted to bring back.  But, it just will not see my backup.  I option while mousing over the tm icon and browse other discs but it shows up blank. I have read so many posts on this matter that my head is spinning.  I tried using the info on this page http://bigdiver.wordpress.com/2009/11/24/restoring-time-machine-backups-on-a-dif ferent-computer/  but I just get lost on the terminal commands.
All I really want to do is go into time machine and see this backup so I can pick out just what I want.  Can anyone guide me? Though I have been using Macs now for five years, I still have much to learn.  Thank you for reading this. John

Ordinarily, yes, you can do that.  But not on this first version of Mountain Lion.
Enter Time Machine only shows the backups for the Mac it's running on.  The Browse Other Backup Disks option (per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17) allows you to see other backups.
But it's broken on Mountain Lion.
You could probably copy things from the backups via the Finder, but you'll likely have permissions problems with the copied files (be unable to change or delete them).
Your best bet is to use Migration Assistant to transfer your user home folders. You can omit some broad categories, such as Applications or the contents of sub-folders in home folders.  Then delete what you don't want.  Use one of the workarounds in the green box of Problems after using Migration Assistant

  • Can't scan over the network after clean windows 8 install

My wife's hard drive recently crashed (it was Windows 7 32bit).  I replaced the drive and installed Windows 8 64bit, and then upgraded to 8.1.  I did the 8.1 update before I installed any software (i.e., canon drivers).
Everything seems to work fine but when we try to scan to her pc via the wireless network we get the error message.  We are initiating the scan from the device panel.
MP Navigator EX corresponding to the printer  you intend to use, may not be installed correctly.  Reinstall MP Navigator EX, and then try again.
I've uninstalled and re-installed several times.  Tried running as administrator. There aren't many settings to change in the Navigator software.  I'll attach some screen shots.  If you need any more information let me know.  Any help at all would be great.  If we can't get it working we'll probably scrap the thing and get something else.
    Thanks!!!

I suggest uninstalling the full feature software from both PCs and re-installing and configuring the software on both.
Are you using the HP Solution center to scan? It is in Dutch, but the images are the same as what you should see in a correctly installed full feature software package.

  • U410 - Clean Windows 8 install problems

    Dear Lenovo,
I'm installing windows 8 pro 64-bit from scratch. Downloaded all the windows 8 drivers from the support site (ofcourse the x64 variants for the 64-bit install), and roughly 75% of the driver packages fail to install correctly. Are you aware of these problems? Result; touchpad not functioning properly, no working wifi (at all, had to use an usb wifi module), 2 unknown modules in device management. Probably more i didnt notice off the bat.
I was also trying to update my bios with the bios package from the download page, and altho this one installs/launches, it states i have an invalid bios file.
    Any comments?

  • Windows re-install failure on Satellite P35 - BSOD

I had to re-install windows XP on my Satellite P35.
I deleted the partition - which I now think might have been a mistake.
I can get about halfway through the windows installation, then I get a blue error screen telling me the installation could not be completed. "beginning physical memory dump" and all that jazz.
Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?
I have re-formated the hard drive.

    What is the BSOD code?
Did you test the memory? go to www.memtest.org and install Memtest on a bootable floppy disk or cd.
If the BSOD is 0x0000007B, you need an F6 SATA driver on a Floppy Disk during XP Setup.

  • How can i make the volume controller on a pavillion dv4 work after a clean windows install?

    Hello!
Recently I performed a clean windows 7 install from a windows install disk I previously owned, the problem is that this disk didn't intalled the drivers and programs specific for this computer. What I want to know is which driver or program I need to install to make the volume controller on my computer to work again? The problem is that the volume bar that previously appeared on the screen and the "bing" sound indicating the volume level doesn't appear or sound now.
All other things seem to work fine, this is the only problem so far.
