How to do a *free* update without a creditcard?

Its really simple. I've just bought a couple of mini's and I want to update iPhoto and iMovie which I believe is free. Still I have to enter a creditcard number. The support tells me to enter it and then later to remove it. Remove it? Like in Facebook-remove-it? Why enter it in the first place? I bought two machines including updates. How can I get my updates without a credit card? Yes, its about integrity!

Due to recent protocolls, a lot of advisors are not even permitted to ask for your last 4 digits of a cc for verification purposes. This makes troubleshooting and investigations virtualy impossible now. For that reason, often a trick to get around this limitation is to have the customer add a credit card temporarilty, then remove it.
It is quite possible this may be part of the reason you were asked to do so.

If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Click the "down arrow" next to your name at the top right side of the page and click "Account." Enter your username and password and click "View Account" to log into your account information. Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.

  • How can I use Office Update without the Office CD?

How can I use Office Update without the Office CD? On the microsoft website I've clicked the options which mean I shouldn't need the CD (which wasn't supplied with the laptop), but poartway through updating the service pack I get a request for the Office 2000 Professional CD.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
Did you mean a Office or One Note?
As far as I know the One Note is a part of the Recovering Image and the CD is not delivered with the unit. Furthermore the Toshiba units are not delivered with the Office 2000 software.
Nevertheless, did you check the update function in the Help i.e. in Word?
There you will find a options called Check for Updates

  • HT204088 how do i get free apps without putting in itunes card, or credit card

wondering how i can get free apps without putting in itunes card or credit card, wont let me do this....

Is it a new account ? If it is then unless you use the instructions on this page when creating a new account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store - you should be able to remove your card's details after entering them.
If you don't have a credit card then you will need to create a new account, and this time use the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating it. If you want to use the same email address then you will need to replace it on that account first e.g. by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and logging into it, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, or via http://appleid.apple.com

  • How can I get security updates without dealing with Firefox 4 update reminders?

I tried Firefox 4 for awhile, hated it and reloaded 3.6. I keep getting reminders to update to 4 which are bothersome. I have disabled reminders, but how can I continue to get security updates without upgrading to 4?

Install Secunia's free Personal Software Inspector: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal
You also need to update Flash a.s.a.p. The version you're running right now is a security risk. See http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-02.html
    Update via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Also, update Firefox to 3.6.17 because there was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.

  • How can i buy free apps without a credit card

Hi does anybody know how i can set up an app store account for the purpose of downloading only free apps
    without providing credit card details?
    cheers.

Yes I did, I have two apple ID's, one which I created only yesterday this is the one which I do not want my credit card details on.
So I signed out of my existing account (tried this in itunes store and app store, on my mac and ipod touch) then signed in with new ID, can't get past the credit card request. I don't get the none option, on the touch i don,t get the pop up scrolling window with all the options.
I want this seperate account so my son has the freedom to download free games etc on his ipod touch without access to my creditcard.

  • How can I access free apps without a credit card?

I'm trying to create an Apple ID for some elderly folks that want something as simple as checking the weather and potentially other free apps but at no point can I create an account without a credit card, an idea that's very bad for folks that are not at all technically savvy.
Various guides suggest there's a 'none' option for payment type if you attempt to create the account with the need to obtain a free app in the app store but this option does not exist, we only have three credit card options. If I change to USA, I have more options like Paypal but none of them is 'none'. Also tried the UK, still didn't work.
Can anyone advise me as to how we can 'review terms' without entering a credit card? It's difficult for me to explain they can't do as much as they want to do with their new $400+ purchase because they need to use their credit card for authorization.

Edit : your last reply appeared as I was typing this.
I've just tried the steps and they worked ok for me, I've got the 'none' option for a new account e.g.
These are the steps that I used to give people (free apps are now labelled as 'Get') : Re: i want to create an appleid and i dont have credit card. the instruction that you discribe at the top is not working…, and that is what I've just used.
If you update the primary email address on the account that you've already created then you should be able to try using to create another account - you can change the primary email address by logging into it via http://appleid.apple.com, or by logging in via the Store > View Account on a computer's iTunes. You can create a 'throw-away' email account to put on the existing account via http://gmail.com or http://hotmail.com
I'd be surprised if the info that you've just been given about gift cards or credit cards is correct, iTunes gift cards aren't available in a lot of countries (and they are country-specific) and a lot of people don't have credit cards - they'd effectively be preventing a lot of people form having accounts.

  • HT4528 how can i download free apps without a credit card?

    Hello.
I just received a new iphone and want to try out some of the free apps on the app-store.  i'm used to being able to download free apps w/o itunes within the Droid enviroment.  This seems complicated with having to install itunes, and having to enter credit card/pay-pal information just to be able to use some 'free' apps.  Is there a method of setting up my account w/o having to do this?

  • How can I download free apps without a credit card?

I want to download free apps from the apps store but it seems like the only option is with a credit card in which I am not ready to use as of now. I'm pretty disappointed...

    Roxanne-
Have you already established an Apple ID, or are you balking because of the credit card issue?  It is my understanding that you can get the Apple ID by specifying NONE when they ask for the credit card information.  You should then be able to download free stuff.
Later, if you try to buy something, you will then need to provide a method of payment.  One alternative may be to add a gift card to your account.  I've seen them for sale at Walmart.  That way you can buy things without any worry about someone stealing your credit card information.
See <redeemLandingPage> for gift card terms and conditions.  It will open up in your iTunes program.

  • How can I download free apps without a credit card or paypal

I need to reinstall some free apps and I don't have a credit card now or paypal. How can I do it

The page referred to above lists instructions for when using iTunes on a computer. Did you read the page?
And by the way, you posted in a thread that's now six months old. That's usually not going to get you a reply.

  • How do I install Flashplayer updates without McAfee

I want to install Flashplay updates (for which I'm prompted) without installing McAfee virus checker. This very long dialogue thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1056732?start=0&tstart=0 claims (from staff) that you can uncheck a box so it is not installed. I did NOT get a checkbox. I clicked to run installation and a dialogue box came up indicating that both Flash and McAfee had started to install. When it finished both were installed.
Is it possible to install Flash without McAfee? If not can someone tell me that I need to uninstall it after installation. I may be wrong, but you boys may be running into problems here. I've had problems before with two different virus checkers installed. If someone had a security violation and it was found that a conflict had caused the problem, and that the McAfee had been forcibly installed you might run into trouble.
You are installing software on my private machine without my authority.
    I'm just saying.

Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer) <---Use for IE in XP, Vista, 7 - NOT for IE in Win 8 or 8.1
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers) <---For Firefox, Opera, Safari - Chrome has it's own built in, and cannot be installed from here
MSI Installer (ActiveX) <---Use if you see a "Failed to register ActiveX" error
MSI Installer (Other browsers)<---Use if you see any error with the "other browser" plug-in

Per the EULA... when you click "Download", you agree to accept ANY files you don't specifically opt out of. Adobe's legal team spent numerous hours making sure that the EULA and downloaders are in compliance with applicable laws,  and will stand up to any legal challenge.

  • How can you get free apps without a credit card?

I got this iPod touch for my birthday and I really wanted to get cranking on getting free apps. I had made an account and everything, and it keeps asking me to finalize my payment plans. The thing is, is that i dont have a credit card. And all i want is free apps. So what can I do, because there  is no "none" option on iTunes 10.4 to indicate that you dont have a credit card. I tried making a new account, and I selecting a free app then going through the process hoping to find the "none" option, but nothing has worked.

Create a new account using the following instructions:
