How to do NAT on Solaris 10 ?

Hello,
I am sorry if asking a stupid question, I have two computers at home and I would like both of them connected to the internet.
How do I setup DHCP, NAT and maybe a DNS cache or server on my Solaris computer ? What else do I need ?
How do I install DHCP server package from Solaris CDs if I don't have it yet ? Or can I get the package somewhere else, like from the Sun site ? What is the package name ?
Sorry I tried to read the manual but I am still new to Solaris and there is so much material to learn.
Thank you,
Timothy Madden,
Romania.

How do I setup DHCP, The easiest way is to just sys-unconfig and select dhcp
NATman ipf or docs.sun.com search for ipfilter or the ipfilter home page
and maybe a DNS cache orcreate /etc/named.conf and populate accordingly. Google for DNS Cache should net you many examples to choose from.

In Solaris 10 you can tune it by setting 'segmap_percent' in /etc/system, i can imagine its doable in Solaris 8 as well.

Any ideas as to how to use rsync on Solaris 10

When given a file source lie l3:/usr/ptraq/man with one colon (:) ssh attempts to connect using ssh.
If you want to connect to the rsync daemon, you need to give 2 colons l3::/usr/ptraq/man.
Your other alternative is to setup ssh keys so you can log in without a password and then you won't have to run rsync in daemon mode at all.

  • How to do nat at active/active asa

Hi i want to learn how to do nat(PAT) at active/active asa. i must be write nat command each context or other way which i do not know?
    thanks

    Hi Teymur,
Configuring NAT on an Active/Active pair is the same as any other multi-context ASA. The NAT commands are configured per-context, so you'll just want to login to the appropriate context to configure the commands.
In an Active/Active pair, some contexts are Active on one physical unit, while other contexts are Active on the other physical unit, but that's the only difference. You'll want to make sure you always make changes on the Active version of the context.
    Hope that helps.

Hi ceasar14. I actually found some steps (from a source) that worked for me. I'm not sure if it will work for you. Here are the steps:
    1. Get the MAC address of your PS3. To find your MAC address simply go to
Settings > System Settings > System Information
    2. Assign a static IP address on your PS3.
    3. Access your router's user interface to open a few ports.
    4. Under Applications and Gaming > Port Range Forwarding, open the following ports:
    TCP: 80, 443, 5223
    UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658
    5. Once this is done, powercycle your PS3 and the router.
    6. Run a connection test and check if it is now on NAT2.
    Good luck.

  • How do I NAT inbound traffic from a site to site VPN?

    OK, This is confusing me....
I have an ASA5520 and need to set up multiple VPN's to some vendor sites. All these vendors are using 192.168.1.0 networks. All have public IP's and very little knowledge so are unable to NAT from their end.
The idea is to create some /28 blocks of IP's (172.29.0.0/28) and manage this on our end.
How do I get this to work?
    Thanks in advance....
    Brent
    example: (all IP's are fictional)
    tunnel1
    VPN
    My side "outside" 10.10.10.10

    Hi bbanderson,
It can handle multiple VPN NATs.
All youve got to do is make multiple instances of the same crypto-map
    like crypto-map crypto-map-name 1 peer-ip
                "                    "               1 transform-set ....etc, etc.
         crypto-map crypto-map-name 2
             "                    "                 2 transform-set ....etc, etc.
for the different peers 10.10.10.10, 20.20.20.20, etc, and match the ip address to each access-list there under each map instance.
crypto map Outside_map0 3 match address -this can be taken as an example.

  • How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?

I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
    Primary partition-5GB
    Remaining are extended Partition.
    Extended partition details
8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
    15 gb RAW partiton
I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton. Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons. One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition. Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

  • How to auto login in Solaris 10

    Hi all
I'm trying to establish auto login in Solaris 10, as a regular user or root. This is a personal testing machine, so security is not an issue.
I want to automatically login preferably in the shell mode, ( no GUI if it's possible ), otherwise I can login with GUI, no biggie.
From what I've found, it does not seem an easy job, given that my Solaris experience is somewhat limited, ( been working more on Linux ).
If I can get that going, I'd prefer to run a few scripts upon login, which I think I can do it.
So what steps must I go through to have auto login upon boot ? How hard is it ?
    Appreciate any comments. Thanks
P.S. Just noticed I might have posted in the wrong forum. Sorry !
Which forum should I post again ?

ZFS has not yet been integrated into Solaris 10...
At this time you need either the "Software Express for Solaris 2/06"
    ( http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/ ) or the
    "Solaris Express: Community Release"
    ( http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/on/ ) to play with ZFS.
