How to do Tap Tempo in Logic Pro 7

anyone know???

Open Key Commands, look under Global Commands and you'll find Tap Tempo. Or, do a search for it by typing Tap Tempo into the Spotlight-like search box in the upper RH corner.
Assign a key or key combination to it (mine's shift-period).
Ta da!

i agree with synthesian. apple needs to fix this tap tempo issue.
i migrated to logic from nuendo... nuendo has a great tap tempo feature... you tap your mouse button in a pop up window along with the music or without it, and it calculates the tempo in real time.
i don't use midi. and page 652 - unless i'm blind - does not explain how to use the computer keyboard to tap a tempo - or where you are even supposed to tap it.
You don't use MIDI and migrated from Nuendo to Logic?? MIDI is the main reason for using Logic, audio is much easier to manipulate and work with in Nuendo.
I guess it depends on what you're doing, but for traditional recording and editing....

  • How to use pianoteq sounds in logic pro?

How to use pianoteq sounds in logic pro? I've got an iMac 3.6 Ghz., intel core i5, OS 10.8.5. I want to be able to use my Bluthner piano sound (which is an add-on in pianoteq) in Logic Pro X (10.0.4).
    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi
Try this in a new empty project:
In the New Tracks box select a software instrument track, and un-check the Open Library box
You will see a track plus the channel in the Mixer
Click on the Input  "Inst" button, and you will see a menu like this
Correctly installed 3rd party 64bit AU plugins will be in the AU Instruments sub-menu.

  • How to use Setup Assistant in Logic Pro 8?

How to use Setup Assistant in Logic Pro 8? I can't find it! even in the User Manuel!
Also, where can we setup the monitor number like we used to set '2 monitor ' in Logic Pro 7's setup assistant
    Thanks!

I've been using Logic on two monitors for years. Screensets extend over all the monitors your computer sees, you can position windows on one, or the other, or size them to fit over both, so you can happily have for instance an arrange window on one monitor, and a mixer window on the other monitor, or stretch a giant arrange window over both...

  • How do I update/upgrade from Logic Pro 8 to 9?

How do I update/upgrade from Logic Pro 8 to 9?

There is no update, you have to purchase Logic 9 from the App Store, it's $199, which is close to the price of an update.
Warning, if you do purchase Logic 9 from the App store it will download 2GB of additional patches/sounds/loops...etc. This is for first time buyers so their App Store Logic will have some basics to work with before trying to download the additional 20+GB of loop/instrument data. If you have a full installtion of Logic 8 it's possible the 2GB of data Logic initially downloads will mess with the instruments and sounds you've been using, past projects may not load properly. Just something to be aware of.

  • How do I delete locators in Logic Pro 8?

    Hi there,
How do I delete locators in Logic Pro 8?
It seems I created them mistakenly, now I cannot delete them.  I don't want to use them and
I don't need to cycle anything.  I'm trying to set markers accurately to timecode on a video,
but it seems the locators are preventing me from doing so?!!  I'm trying to match accurately
to the timecode frame and when I reach the unwanted locator it prevents me from moving
up a frame to the frame I want.
    Thanks
    Simon

You can easily move locaters by dragging them. You disable them by turning off cycle mode in the transport bar. They are always there but when disabled should not be a problem.

  • What is tempo in Logic Pro 9?

    Hi,
I am a professional musician with 30 years of experience and academic background.
I seriously consider buying a LogicPro. I'm familiar with it, I've been frequently using it in the recording studios.
I have a simple question, yet it has to do with the thinking behid LogicPro9.
In all the documentation it has been rather poorly covered:
What is a tempo and how and where it connects to a measure definition?
OK, one may say, 120 BPM, for example, or whatsoever, and that's fine.
But what is *a beat* and where it is getting defined?
In "Metronome Settings" there is a sensible approach:
A click tone for the bar setting (which reflects the barline)
A click tone for the beat setting (which reflects the beat definition)
A division definition + (optional) click tone for the division.
However it is only for clicking purpose.
To my surprise, if one tries to set a tempo in global tracks that relates to the the beat definition for a song section, confusion occurs. Tempo happens to be a hard-coded dogma. How come?
A trivial answer is: it has to be a quarter-note. But here is no such definition in music practice or theory. This happens to be very false for beats other than quarter notes, such as half notes, eight notes, or, let's say dotted quarter notes, to name just a few. One may not frequently find such designations in mainstream pop music, or music for commercials & games, but music in general is full of such designations, for example film music, classical music, chamber music…
Beat is a fundamental concept in music and has to be definable as such. Tempo has to relate to the definition of a beat, not to a fraction of a mainstream prejudice or unquestioned practice.
What if one wants to use Logic as composition tool for making a serious piece of music? Where to define such a tempo, so it that both, signature and tempo read and behave correctly for a respective section, without having to do manual on-the-fly calculations, and without misdefining, let's say a 60 BPM tempo for a 2/2 measure as a 120 tempo, or a 2/2 measure as 2/4 measure, for example?
    Thanks in advance.
    S

I'm not entirely sure whether I'm on the right track here, but I'll give it a shot.
The glossary in the Logic manual has this definition of what is reffered to as a tick -
'The smallest unit of timing resolution in a MIDI sequencer. In Logic Pro, this is 1/3840th
of a note. Logic Pro can go down to single sample accuracy (at sufficient zoom levels) for
edits and positioning, but the MIDI protocol is not fast enough to support this.'
So, the value (number of ticks) of a whole note, crotchet, semiquaver, whatever, is in fact variable, according to the tempo of a piece of music. This doesn't matter - the important matter is whether that particular resolution issufficient for all normal musical purposes; I can't imagine anyone finding that it isn't. It has to be like this because that's how digital processes work, by manipulating numbers on a basic level - the program does that for you though, you don't have to calculate anything yourself !
You can easily insert tempo or time signature changes in Logic (you don't need the global track to insert time signatures). The score facilities are very extensive in Logic, although I don't use them myself much; certainly capable of use a serious composition tool, as many musicians have and do.
I think you may be thinking about it in perhaps a little too much detail - the best thing to do is get Logic and get stuck in to doing something and work it all out as you go along - there is a lot to learn, so be aware that it will take time and a bit of head scratching and purple language if you're that way inclined, but it will very probably pay off in the end.

    Lots of thanks!

Can you tell me something about fading?
In every tutorial on Youtube, the press esc and the get a lot of options. I do to. However, I only have "Fade tool" and they have "Crossfade tool". Probably nothing to care about.
But I can't fade any tracks unless I bounce the track. Why doesn't the tutorials say anything about that?
I promise you, I read, searched and listen to every advice yesterday for 4 hours. Couldn't figure the fading thing. It was just a luck I tried bounce.
