How to downgrade yosemite to mavericks

Hi i would like to know if its possible to downgrade Yosemite to Mavericks on my late 2009 macbook because i only have 2gb of ram and its really slow. Thanks!

That is what I'm about to do. I have a disc for snow leopard... not sure if I have the disc for mountain lion or if it was a download... before I do anything I will check. I'm hoping I can download whichever ones I need before I start, put them on an external drive and then do what this person did. I didn't care for Mavericks... it couldn't have been so great if it got replaced and is not available now. Kinda telling.
I'm ****** with this upgrade. Nothing can convince me that Apple didn't know older machines wouldn't adapt to this upgrade but there wasn't a warning or "system requirements" check that SHOULD happen automatically.
And... I HAVE 4GB of RAM and it's still crap.
It has turned Safari into an unusable app. The bluetooth mouse no longer works right. Trying to watch videos on youtube is impossible. I click "play" and it does something else entirely.
I'm going back to SL, then ML... and as far as I can go before I get fracked by this monstrosity of an "upgrade."

    How downgrade yosemite to mavericks?

    Hello Makito76,
    please see these pages:
    http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/revert-back-mavericks-from-yosemit e-3581872/
    http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/how-make-bootable-mavericks-instal l-drive-3475042/
I followed these instructions and my Mac is back to Mavericks now.
A comment for Apple: the new design is simply pathetically bad. If I wanted minimalism to the extreme, I would buy a VT100 terminal (if you know what that was) and not a Mac.
The new design is unreadable, flat, dull, boring, gray, tiring, washed-out, unfinished, even colors and palettes are unmatched (the bluish icons of folders have the same blue of Windows95, but they are on gray), and worse of all unnecessary. The few pixels that you have gained here and there in borders are paid with making pages totally unreadable.
This is not a new design philosophy or a "forward thinking design" as suggested by some pundits, but just mediocre taste and even worse bad engineering.

  • How to downgrade back to Mavericks?

I upgraded my system to Yosemite the other night. I saw a lot of changes especially in style. I like the blurry background and the minimal logos BUT THE COLORS. Too colorful. The folder colors, too bright. I feel like this is the worst OS ever. My Macbook became slow as ****, I see the spinning wheel of death everywhere, everything loads so slow even the volume and brightness that pops when you press those buttons!
I can't stick with this slow piece of crap. How do I downgrade back to Mavericks? Yosemite is stylish okay, okay I get it but it's slow as **** and I'm not even using half of the memory of my laptop.

It's worth pointing out that you'll find many threads here saying the same thing after upgrading to Mavericks, and how to downgrade to Mountain Lion.
In short: the problem may not be the OS itself. Most cases of slowness are due to incompatible third-party software, usually LaunchAgents that load at startup and run in the background.
Make sure you know what you have installed, and make sure all of it is up to date.
Two simple tests: Try booting into Safe Boot mode. Any better?
Try logging into a brand new user account. Any better?
These tests can tell you where the source of any problem lies.

  • Need to downgrade - Yosemite to Mavericks!

    Hi guys,
Earlier today downloaded the Yosemite upgrade. I'm just not getting on with, really not sue whether to stick it out and see if it will improve or just downgrade back to Mavericks. I have a full backup of my system on Time Machine and I'm using the August 2014 13 Inch Macbook Pro - 2.6 GHz i5 8GB.
The big question is; what steps do I have to take to get back to Mavericks, or is it not possible?
Cheers, all responses and help are appreciated.

See here: Apple: Restoring a previous OS X version
Or here: How to revert OS X back from Mavericks
They are written for Mavericks, but the same process applies.

  • How to pretend yosemite being mavericks?

I'm about to purchase a Sharp LL-S201A touch screen monitor. The touch panel seems to work excellent on windows 8.1s built in touch driver.
Mac OS X does not have an integrated touch device driver. However, the LL-S201A comes with a Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9 touchdisplay driver.
i tried to install this driver on my MacBook rPro late 2103 i7 2.6GHz nVidia GT750m, but the installer says, that it will install only on Mac OS X 10.6 or later. The installer seems to "sort" 10.10 "lower" than 10.9. I had this with Steinbergs Cubase 7.5 Mac, same problem. Steinberg offered software that let the installer do its work in another way.
I asked Sharp for a Yosemite installer. Of course, no reply yet.
so, my questions is: is there a way to temporarily pretend Yosemite 10.10 being Mavericks 10.9? It must be s system call which returns the OS version number being used by the installer. Can it be intercepted somehow like with dll hooks on windows? (I'm technically quite unfamiliar with Mac OS X.
Or any other ideas? Setting up a 10.9 VM, install the driver there and copy the installed files over to Yosemite? How do I detect which files get written where by the installer then?
Any hints? I'm quite sure the driver works well on 10.10. It's just the installer which doesn't run due the os version check.
    thanks
    tab

If you right click on the installer then choose to "show package contents" you can then go to Contents>Packages>buildFiles.pkg and run that. It should skip the OS check. Whether it will work or not I have not been able to test yet.

After upgrading to Yosemite, I lose my connect in SOAS, university of London. Overtime, it rejects me as Authentication fails in this network. Even the school technicianer cannot fix. I wonder how to downgrade or any solution?  I never encounter this issue with Mavericks or the one before.

I also have the internet diagnostic report, but it is nonsense to me to read it.

  • How to delete Yosemite and return to mavericks

On my Mac Pro desktop I have downloaded the upgrade to Yosemite from Mavericks, now I have no mail and hundreds of pounds worth of software that won't work with this operating system, all my reading lists and links are gone from safari. How do I put it back to how it was?

It'd be easier to remove the crap that is incompatible and causing the problems.
If you want to go back to your previous OS, boot into Recovery and Erase the drive. Then, restore from your backup.

If you have the Mountain Lion installer or can download a copy from your Purchases page in App Store then simply run the installer application. Before you install select your target drive. From the Utilities menu select Disk Utility. Repartition and reformat your drive. Quit Disk Utility and continue with the installation of Mountain Lion.
Be sure to backup first because the downgrade will erase all your files.

  • How to Uninstall Yosemite?  System does not allow Erase the HD, nor does it allow re-install of original O/S Disc (10.6.7).  I want Mavericks or even Lion Back.   Thanks.

How to Uninstall Yosemite?  System does not allow Erase the HD, nor does it allow re-install of original O/S Disc (10.6.7).  I want Mavericks or even Lion Back.   Thanks.

    Start with reinstalling Snow Leopard:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
    Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 Access the App Store to download Mountain Lion or Yosemite. Mavericks is no longer available since the release of Yosemite. If you purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store, then you can redownload it via your Purchases page in App Store. If not, then you will need to purchase it from Apple;
Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • IPhoto compatibility, downgrading from Yosemite to Mavericks

    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)
Hi everyone, this is my first post on Apple Support Communities, so please be kind if any mistake.
I upgraded to Yosemite as soon as the update became available, and I'm running the latest version. 10.10.1, Now, after a month or so of having it, I have had more problems than advantages from this update, and I am going to downgrade back to Mavericks.
I'm truly worried about my iPhoto library, do you know if after being upgraded to Yosemite it becomes incompatible with previous versions of OS X?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
    BR,
    -Nayith

This is why I always have a previous backup of both my last OS X and I duplicate my iPhoto library several times so I still have an iPhoto library that is still compatible with a previous versions of my OS X and iPboto.
Search for, download, install and try/use iPhoto Library Manager.
This app has the capability to rebuild iPhoto Library folders.
    Good Luck!

My two old white MacBooks run perfect with Snow leopard, but my 2011 17" i7 Macbook Pro is a dead slug with yosimite installed.
Tried the start with C held down, also with option held down.  All it does is beeps at me three times, then again three times.....
I want to remove yosimite and install Snow leopard from dvd as yosimite runs worse than a Windows OS.
Can it be done, what do I need to do please?
Examples of faults,  even with a 1tb solid state drive and 16 gig of ram, it is incredibly slow.  Took four hours to install Logic 8 last night, I still have to reinstall logic 9 upgrade.   On the White MacBooks I got both 8 and 9 installed in under an hour and a half all up.
Beeping on startup means failed RAM.
Slowness is usually caused by incompatible third-party system modifications.
