How to download a site in DW?

I'm very new to Dreamweaver. I need to take over a site and the adobe software. There is no copy of the site on the local network. I could use an FTP program to download the site to my hard drive and then proceed from there within DW. However, if DW already has some built in functionality for this, I may as well make use of it. Does DW have any functionality for downloading an exiting site? What is preferred method for situations like this?

Define your site by going to Site > New Site.
Tell DW where on your local hard you wish to keep your site files.
C:\MySiteName
Under Servers, enter the FTP log-in credentials.
Root Directory is whatever your hosting provider told you to use.
Web URL is your site's domain name http://yoursite.com/
Hit Test button. If for some reason you can't connect, hit More Options triangle. See screenshot.
Once you're able to connect to the remote site, go to DW's Files Panel (F8).
Use the Down arrow to GET files from remote server. Use the Up arrow to PUT files from local folder to remote server.

Hi,
I had to do a clean install of my Mac, done so and migrated everything back from my Time Machine backup. All is well at least i thought it was, then i opened iWeb.
It shows my site but on the left side all pages are red and all of my blog comments are gone.
When i re-upload the site to MobileMe it asks if i want to replace whatever is there.
Can i download the complete site + all of the comments from MobileMe and load it into iWeb ?
I can not lose the comments as the page was for a wedding guestbook/registry etc.

Unfortunately iWeb cannot import previously published html files, only generate them. So, unless you have a backup copy of the Domain.sites2 file that resides in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder you'll have to rebuild the site from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

How do I download my site to my new computer?

Scenario: a new computer, DW CS4, a new version to me.
I want to simply download my site from the web to my new computer, and have it all set up pretty much the way it was on my old computer. Will the files download and create the correct folders or must I define the folders in advance? I know this is easy but I need advice.
What I have done so far: I went to Site>New>FTP & RDS Server and in there entered the info about the ftp connection.
It connected to the web and downloaded what is on the site. I thought that was cool, but it is not what I want and now I am afraid to change anything. Is it possible to start over?
I also set up a New Site, named it, entered the ftp info but now it won't connect to the server because it says it's in use and so I have to wait for its availability. So I think I need to disengage the FTP & RDS Server but don't know how.

Do you have access to your old files on the old computer? If so, save them to your new computer. You then would set up a site definition pointing to the old files.
If you don't have them (you should really have a backup :-) you should be able to download them via ftp, either into a new folder that you create and then set up a site definition pointing to this folder, or download them to an already set up site defined location.
It seems you have tried this - but not sure what you mean when you say 'they are not the way you'd like them". Can you explain a little more about the problem you have with the files you did download?

Thanks alot for your reply. I followed your instructions and when I try to log in I get the following message:
"An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. User limit reached or not authorized to make the connection due to local firewall blocking FTP data."
I know it is not firewall issue and I am the only user. Any ideas?

Are you able to connect to other Internet services, such as email, web sites, etc? Has downloading music from the app ever worked for you? If so, then the problem may be with the servers supporting that app. I'd suggest just waiting a few hours or perhaps until tomorrow and see if the problem clears up. If not, the "support" for that app is unhelpful so I can only offer generic suggestions, but you can try restarting your iPad and if that doesn't help removing and reinstalling the app.

Without FTP how do I download my site?

I have been traveling for a while and was a bit surprised to find that FTP is no longer available with Verizon. Since it is past their kill date does anyone have a recommendation on how I can download a copy of my pages without FTP? Have they implemented Secure FTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)? Do I need to download each page and associated media manually? Any advice would be appreciated.

The short answer is you cannot download your site to Verizon Personal Web Space any longer. If you cannot build it with sitebuilder (and I will refrain from commenting about the qualities (or lack thereof) of Sitebuilder, you are out of luck..
If you want to have a site, my advice is to either use some of the advertiser supported hosting companies, or spend the $50 or so per year for a real web site from a company like Godaddy. (www.godaddy.com).
Verizon is apparently concerned the FTP is insecure, but apparently the insecurity is just fine as long as you are a commercial customer paying Verizon for Web hosting services.
If you don't like the answer, I suggest you write, don't call, Verizon's CEO and tell him so. I did.

Unfortunately we cannot download the site from BC end, at current stage we cannot import sites to Muse.
We always recommend to save the file as backup, so if you have the muse file saved in your system or external source , you can re-publish.
else the workaround would be to use the assets and similar design and recreate the site or you can manage the site from BC end.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

How to download a real setup for Adobe Reader 9?

I have a friend who lives in the Sticks (and I do mean the back woods sticks) where she only has a 24.4 KBPS Modem connection to the internet. I voluntered to download some updated software and I cannot figure out how to download the Windows 2000 version for her so I can put it on a CD for her to install when she gets home.
I don't mean to be rude, but 26 Megs for a reader is a bit much and to insist that she use some Adobe Download Manager on a Land Line connection is outrageous.
Please tell me you have a real download link. I was able to get her everything else on her Christmas List but this.
