How to download an app for only one user

I have an iMac running the latest version of lion and I want to download and app from Mac app store but I only want to download it for one user, how can I do that?

If you wish for an app to only be available in one user account, create an Applications folder in the Home folder of that user account and drag and drop the app to that folder.

The apple id login is never deleted. The emaill address itself can be disabled or not in use any longer. The apple id login will still be available to you. If you will go to the website My Apple Id

and use the listed apple id login that your apps are asking for to update - once you have changed the password at the lsted website you then will be able to update using the old apple id once you have logged into the device using the old apple id and password.

Have a program that is installed for only one user, how can I get another user access to the software? don't have install disk.

Select the application's icon then Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Ownership and Sharing section check the owner and group assignments. If they have owner=you and group=you or staff, then you must change those. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder and enter the following command line at the prompt:
sudo chown -R root:admin
Put a space after "admin' then drag the application's icon into the Terminal window and press RETURN. You will be prompted for your admin password which will not be echoed.
This should enable other users to access the application provided you have given the user access via their managed account preferences in Accounts preferences.

How to download new apps for an iPad

I have just bought an iPad and have this issue - I can't seem to find how to get new apps. The standard advice I've found trawling around online is the following:
1. Launch iTunes on your computer,having upgraded to the latest version
2. Connect your iPad to your computer.
3. Select the Apps tab in the menu.
4. Under the list of apps on the left make your choice of a cornucopia of apps
5. Click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window.
Well, I keep doing the above, and get as far as point 4, but the left hand list of apps is completely empty, and what I assume is intended to be a pull down menu is greyed out, displaying only "sort by kind". So I can't get any programmes.
Any ideas please?

Reinstalling data from Time Capsule, but for only one user

I just got a new-used MacBook Pro and need to use Time Capsule to retrieve my old hard drive's data, but I do not want to overwrite the existing data on the laptop's drive, since it is different, including the OS, I believe. I would like to split the disc, as it were, without partitioning it, for multiple users using Time Capsule. Can I safely use Time Capsule to put all the files only into one user account, or do I need to wipe the drive and partition...?

You can use the +Migration Assistant+ app to transfer one or more user accounts from the old Mac, without overwriting anything on the new one. Those will be a separate accounts, with the same logins as on the old Mac. Each user account will have it's own preferences, data, etc. See the pink box in #19 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for details.
That won't "merge" two or more user accounts, since each user's data is private. You can do that manually, if you want, by copying data from one user account to another, but it's rather tedious.
You may also need to be careful if there's a big difference in the versions of OSX and/or 3rd-party apps on the two Macs; you may have apps and/or data on one that aren't compatible with the other. In many cases, a newer version of an app will work with the data from an older version, but not vice-versa. You may want to check that out rather carefully first.
If that's a "deal breaker," there may be a (rather clumsy) workaround; partition the internal disk, so you have, say, Leopard on one partition and Snow Leopard on the other. Then boot from whichever you want. In that case, you'd do a full system restore to the new partition, per #14 in the FAQ. That will only work, though, if the Pro will even run the other version -- generally, a Mac won't run a version of OSX that's older than the Mac's hardware.

Burn a CD or DVD for only one user!

How can I burn a CD or DVD that only my user can read?
I go to backup my personal informations and want to sure that no other people have access to this CD.
I use the Toast Titanium 7.1.2, but if other software can do this, I can buy it!

Thanks to all. But now, I see some thing that make this idea of a disk image, not good. Lets say, that I burn a DVD with a disk image inside the DVD. If I get, just a little risk on de DVD, I lost all the informations. If I dont use a disk image, I lost only the information, in that little risk. And because I go use this as a backup, this problem with security is a problem.
So, if somebody know another way, to burn a DVD, that only my user have access, please, let me know.

PPro crashes for only one user

We run Adobe CC 2013 on a Dell T7600, 32MB RAM, K5000 GPU. Lots of internal storage. Two identical systems have been running like a champ since 12/2013.
Long story as to why we're on CC 2013. Suffice it to say it still runs great, except for one user.
Ppro crashes every time they try to open an existing project. The rest of us can log on and open them without difficulty.
No recent installs of anything. THe user in question is a reliable user who doesn't do dumb things. All other users have no difficulty.
We have tried having them start PPro with the ALT+SHIFT key. We have deleted all Media Cache files for all users.

I would suggest two things:
Rename the 'Adobe' folder in your Documents library to 'OldAdobe' and then try to open the project. If it fails, then
Create a new project, without importing anything go to Window > Workspace > Uncheck 'Import Workspace from Projects' . Then go to Window > Workspace > Reset current workspace. Save the project. Then see if it works.

Site looks different for only one user

I just updated our Intranet for the service reps. The site
uses the Spry Vertical Menu on the left hand side. I have one user
who has the entire left hand side cut off which is where the
vertical menu is, so she's not able to navigate around. I checked 6
other users and they're all fine. I tried refreshing her page,
deleting temps, deleting cookies. All individuals are using
IE/windows xp. Is there something else I can try to get this to
work for her.

Firefox crashes for only one user on startup, even after reset; safe mode OK.

Current crashes do not even produce crash reports, but two crashes from earlier today did yield:

Starting in safe mode shows the same installed plugins and two extensions that are enabled in profiles for other users on this system. It is only this user's Firefox that crashes on startup, even after a reset.
Have also uninstalled and re-installed Firefox. Again, it crashes on startup only for this user.
Windows event viewer does have several entries for an Application Error:
Faulting application name: plugin-container.exe, version: 32.0.3.5379, time stamp: 0x54224e6b
Faulting module name: mozalloc.dll, version: 32.0.3.5379, time stamp: 0x54221b67
Exception code: 0x80000003
but it's not clear that these entries sync up with the crashes.
This crashing on startup began this morning; no new software or any other system modifications (that I'm aware of) for several weeks now.

The hardware acceleration setting appears to be the culprit. After unchecking the Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available" setting, Firefox no longer crashes on startup.
Initially I'd glossed over this setting since it isn't an issue for any of the other users on this system. I'm still puzzled as to why this would be an issue only for this user, and what had changed as of this morning that set it off, but obviously there's something about their configuration which triggers this situation, even for the default plain vanilla Firefox profile!

ICal alerts not working for only one user

My main user account stopped giving me iCal alerts. I can switch to another user and my test alert works. I've found a lot of information online but most seems to be for older versions of iCal. I have gone into ~user/Library and removed everything related to iCal. I even managed to finally delete the home calendar that seemed to re-appear. I managed to start with a clean calendar but no alerts. Is there an alert plist file that could be the culprit? I've done a global search in Terminal for anything under ~User/Library with "alert" or "notification" in the filename but can't find anything. I hate to rebuild an entire account again.

Plain Text URL links not working in the Windows 8 Mail App for only one account.

I just started using a Surface Pro, and randomly one of the accounts I have setup in the "Modern" Mail app stopped parsing the pain text URL path that was included in them. Specifically links to forum discussions. I have 4 other Win
8 devices and they display the links fine.
More confusing is this issue happens ONLY with my O365 mail account and only on one PC. I have an Outlook.com account and it renders the pain text URL as a clickable link, but when I send the same email to my O365 account it just shows up as
text, no link generated. All in the same Windows 8 Mail App.
I ran the Windows 8 App Troubleshooter, I've reinstalled the Mail app, I've removed and re-added the mail account. Nothing fixes this. Anyone know why?

Same problem for us, the link is also not rendered, if the mail is sent to an on-premise Exchange server.
Its only for plain-text messags, HTML-messages work fine.
Why is this problem ignored? The app is useless with that limitation.

The only way is if you still had a copy of it somewhere. By hard drive I assume that you mean your computer, and that you haven't backed up your content onto an external drive or flash drive (?). If not then you will need to find an alternative way to access Facebook as only the current version of each app is in the store so you won't be able to re-download an older version of it.
Are there any other Facebook apps in the store that will work on your iPod ?

How do I configure FX for only one piece of the audio on the track?

There are many ways to perform these sorts of tasks, depending on what exactly you want to achieve. You can use an Insert to apply your distortion effect, & use Channel Strip Settings to change from one state to another. You can use Sends to a Buss. You can use Track Automation under MIDI control to mix in another track with the distortion already applied. There are plenty of other options as well, but in order for us to go into more detail about any of these methods, you will have to be a bit more specific about what you intend to accomplish, & how you want to control the switching (e.g., from a music controller keyboard, a mouse, etc.)…

How to move all app data from one user to another? (One mac)

Hi. I've been having this problem for a while. So recently, I've made a new account for myself, since I was using my mom's user account. I don't want to keep all of my files, emails, and icloud on her user, since it's used by everyone in my family. I use iMail now because hotmail blocked my email because "Someone hacked me" and they kept it locked for all these months, and I can't give enough proof to show it was mine, since I forgot every email I've sent now.
And iMail is pretty cool, adding your own rules and stuff. Except you don't need a password to log in. I just deactivate my iMail via system preferences as a log-out, and then re-activate it as a log-in.
So, back to the question.
How can I move ALL app data from my mom's user account to my new one? Her acount also has pictures of our germany vacation. So not every file.
You see, I game on my mac mostly because steam is really complicated, using internet just to play a game that doesn't need internet and stuff.
And steam doesn't have a lot of casual games.
So I want to move my game data, save files and every little piece of application info that my games have on my mom's account to mine. I've asked this question on Yahoo answers, and all I got was an answer of "File IS data, or datum itself, You are wrong. I cannot give you an answer." -.-
I'm not experienced with terminal either, so I'll need a ton of explanation of how to use it if that's how it can be done. It really really confuses me and I'll just give up.
