How to download and exe file?

Hi - is there a way for a mac user to download an exe file - I'm needing to download some software from my internet company in Africa - it tracks my usage, important because here we pay per download - thus the software is a program that tracks usage so we don't go over our monthly amount . . . as most things here, there is almost nothing set up for macs . . . hence my query: is there a way to convert an exe file so that I can use it? THANKS, Autumn

Hi Masego
Downloading is easy - but if it's an exe file then you might not be able to make much use of it on OS X, as it won't run.
To run Windows exe files on a Mac you need one of the following technologies:
1. A version of Windows installed on a separate partition of your hard disk, using Boot Camp.
2. A version of Windows installed using a virtualisation technology, such as Virtual Box.
3. I'm told that "Mono" will allow you to run certain exe files under OS X but I've never tried it myself.  Mono is free and if you do a search for it then you might find someone who can give you more support.

    When I download an exe file from the internet, it goes over to the download window. I can see it downloading but I always have to right click and and select open to get it to install. • TS5376 itunes 11.1.4 for Windows Vista - I've uninstalled prior version and associated applications, but get message"cannot download" the exe file. Why?

    Followed instructions to uninstall iTunes and related components and files, but still get error that the "exe" file cannot be downloaded. Any suggestions on what to do next?  This all started because I wanted to sync my iphone to the computer.

    I was able to successfully download iTunes after repeated attempts to remove Apple Mobile Device Support finally worked. Had to repair, re-install, then uninstall it. Found useful tips on how to do that in topic "Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows Updates" by turingtest2.  After that, my browsers (IE or Firefox) would only partially download the iTunes install file. So paused virus scanner and Windows Defender. and uninstalled iCloud. Eventually IE downloaded the "exe" file and I was able to run it (albeit with several false starts).
    Now trying to reinstall iCloud.
    thanks for your help.

    A .exe file is a Windows executable. OS X does not run Windows programs. If you need to use .exe files then you will need to install Windows on your Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

    I'm new user on mac and would like to know how to open .rar files and .exe files on MAC OS X

    How is this a Compressor question?
    .exe is a Windows only Executable, and can't be opened on a Mac, unless you have Windows installed.

  • How do I download a .exe file on my macbook pro?

    I am trying to download a .exe file -- I just switched to a macbook pro from a PC.  help!

    You can download any file you like to your Mac, but you won't be able to run an .exe natively as they're for the Windows operating system.  You could purchase something like Parallels if you want to run Windows software, or alternatively use Boot Camp.
    Hope this helps.

    How do I open .exe files on my mac? I've downloaded a bunch of programs but they are all in .exe format. Do I need a program to extract these files?

    Ok thanks. So how do you install programs that you download from the internet? I've downloaded some programs and when I try to install them it doesn't work.
    First of all, you need to download things that are built to run on OS X - there is no way to install any Windows program in OS X.  You need windows to run Windows programs.
    Most downloadable programs for OS X will be distributed in a Disc Image file - *.dmg  You would double click one to open it.  Then, often it is as simple as drag the uncompressed folder to your Applications Folder.  Sometimes there may be an installer to run.  Once installed, you can eject the mounted dmg (drag it to the trash) and either keep is in case you ever need to reinstall, or delete it.

    I've been instructed to download an .exe file of Windows XP Service Pack 3 in order to update a corrupted and restored Windows XP in Parallels on Bootcamp.
    I downloaded to my MacBook and tried putting the .exe file in a folder and burning it to CD but received this message

    Is there a way to burn just the .exe file alone directly from its location in my Downloads file to the CD?

  • How do you run .exe files with wine by clicking on them?

    Hi, I need help with using wine on mac osx. I used to use wine on Ubuntu and Linux Mint and it was relatively simple. But on mac osx, I used macports to dowload/install wine, and i used winecfg to create a prefix. I can not figure out for the life of me how to launch an executable by clicking on it. It opens in TextEdit instead of launching in wine. Can someone explain to me how to make a .exe file launch by clicking on it? Do i have to register the filetype with wine? Wine is not in a .app format. I can run any .exe in terminal but it is less than convenient. Thanks in advance.

    So wrap Wine in an application, and bind the .exe's to the wrapper application.
    Platypus (free download)
    <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19870>
    Can be used to turn any Unix program or script into a double clickable application, as well as a drag and drop target application.
    It should be possible to wrap Wine with Platypus.
    As an alternative, you might try Applications -> Automator -> Run Shell Script workflow, and save that as an application. Then bind your .exe's to that workflow you created.
    NOTE: I have not played with Wine, so your mileage may vary.

  • How to download a text file from the server

    hi everyone,
    can anyone tell me how to download and read a text file from the server and saved in into resource folder.
    with regards
    pallavi

    its really easy
    To read from server, use something like:
    HttpConnection connector = null;
    InputStream inp_stream = null;
    OutputStream out_stream = null;
    void CloseConnection()
         if(inp_stream!=null)inp_stream.close();
         inp_stream=null;
         if(out_stream!=null)out_stream.close();
         out_stream=null;
         connector.close();
         connector = null;
    public void getResponse(String URL,String params)
      try
         if(connector==null)connector = (HttpConnection)Connector.open(URL);//URL of your text file / php script
         connector.setRequestMethod(HttpConnection.POST);
         connector.setRequestProperty("User-Agent","Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1");
         connector.setRequestProperty("content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
         //connector.setRequestProperty("charset","windows-1251");
         //*** If you need to send ("arg1=value&arg2=value") arguments to script use this:
         out_stream = connector.openOutputStream();
         byte postmsg[] = params.getBytes();
         out_stream.write(postmsg);
         int rc = connector.getResponseCode();//in any case here connection will be opened & closed
         if (rc != HttpConnection.HTTP_OK)
              CloseConnection();
              throw new IOException("HTTP response code: " + rc);
         inp_stream = connector.openInputStream();
         int pack_len = inp_stream.available();
         byte answ[]=new byte[pack_len];
         inp_stream.read(answ);
         CloseConnection();
         ProcAnswer(answ);//process received data
      catch(Exception ex)
         System.err.println("ERROR IN getResponse(): "+ex);
    } And you can read from resource file like
    public void loadFile(String filename)
        DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(getClass().getResourceAsStream("/"+filename));
        String str="";
        try
             while (true)
                ch = dis.read();//read character
                if(ch=='\r')continue;//if file made in windows
                if(ch=='\n' || ch==-1)//end of line or end of file
                    if(str.length()==0)continue;//if empty line
                    //do some thing with "str"
                    if(ch==-1)break;//it was last line
                    str="";//next line
                    continue;
                 str+=(char)ch;
           dis.close();
       catch (Exception e)
           System.err.println("ERROR in loadFile() " + e);
    }Welcome! =)

  • I can no longer download and save files. They are now saved with a ".part" suffix that I can not use or open. What happened, I used to do this all the time?

    Downloads seem to be happening normally at first but the file shows up with a file extension of ".part" that I can not use or open. If I refresh the folder where it was downloaded to, it disappears as though it wasn't there at all.
    I used to do this and it just yesterday started to give me problems. It doesn't seem to matter what file type I do this with as PDF, MP3 and EXE files have all shown this problem.
    Please help!

    It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
    Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
