  • Apple Service Diagnostic 2.5.8 help

I downloaded ASD 2.5.8 and burned the image to disc. I restart and hold the "c" button down, and nothing happens. Is there any other way I can run ASD besides the holding down "c" option? I believe I have the respective version of ASD for my powermac G5 early 2005. Any help is appreciated.
Also im using a non-apple wireless keyboard set-up. Could that be the issue?

Wireless keyboards aren't recognized early enough in the boot process to select your startup dis.
Also, I believe that you need to be holding down the option key (normally the same as the alt key if you're using a PC keyboard) to get the boot menu. It usually takes some time before it'll show all the boot choices, including the Apple Service Diagnostic tests.

  • Apple Service Diagnostic Test

    Hi,
I performed hardware and software tests using Apple Service Diagnostic Test (it's similar to Apple Hardware Test but more advenced) and I want to save (and print) the results.
Is anyone here familiar with that kind of tests and know how to save the results?
It seems to be pretty straightforward but I can't find it
    Cheers.

If your graphic card is failing, take the Mac to an Apple Store to get your Mac repaired. Unfortunately, that graphic is soldered to the logic board, so the whole logic board will be replaced

How to download non-Apple store apps on iMac 10.8. I want to transfer photos from a Samsung Galaxy S4 to the iMac.

If your Mac is not allowing you to download 3rd party apps that are from a source other than the Mac App Store, it is likely the security setting in System Preferences. Go to Sys Prefs/Security & Privacy/General and set the download options best for you. You will likely find the download options grayed out. You will need to click the padlock below and supply your admin password to unlock the preference pane.

  • How can we improve Apple service?

Well meaning Apple staff are being disempowered by the rigid customer architecture and poor customer support systems. How can we help Apple become more customer focused before it losses its long time brand advocates?

  • Do the fans speed up when running Apple Service Diagnostic?

When i run apple service diagnostic cd (2.5.8) the fans really speed up and don't slow down so after a few minutes i stop the testing, is this normal?. It seems like it is the rear fans that are going full speed, can't tell if any of the other fans are speeding up or not, i stop the testing after a few minutes as i don't know if this is normal or not and don't want to cause any damage.

Unless you bathe the computer in helium gas, I doubt if the fans will run faster than their designed speed even full bore.
The helium gas relates to a war story told by my motors and transformers prof "way back when" of a cooling fan in a nuclear facility where the atmosphere in the containment vessel was helium for whatever reason. The fan was powered by a universal motor which had nameplate voltage applied to it. The thing that limits the universal is turning resistance, and helium, being less dense in that environment, provided much less resistance to the fan blades, thus allowing the fan to overspeed and then disintegrate from the resulting centrifugal force. From that, I learned that interdisciplinary engineering teams really do need to talk to each other on a constant basis. Plus, I guess I learned a valuable lesson if I ever decided to build my backyard nuke.

  • Apple Service Diagnostic/Kernel panic

I'm trying to boot into the Apple Service Diagnostic that came with AppleCare training but as it is reading from the disk I always get a kernel panic. Any ideas?

Contact AppleCare or boot with the Apple Hardware Test disc and run the extended tests. Also, see:

  • HT204053 iCloud says my Apple ID is valid but it is not an iCloud account. I find how to link on Apple services but it seems to leave me hanging. How do I actually link the 2 accounts? On a Windows 8 PC?

iClound Control Panel says my Apple ID is valid but it is not an iCloud account. How do I link the 2 accounts on a Windows 8 PC with iTunes 11. I go to Apple services and it gives some instructions; but they leave me hanging. They tell me to put in the same user name and then just stop. Doesn't say what to do next. I did what it said and the 2 accounts are still not linked. Anyone know how to assist? Thank you.

Apple isn't trying to be anti-PC with this; they support PCs going all the way back to Vista SP2, a 3-generation old version of Windows.  To sync iCloud with a Mac you have to be running one of the last 2 versions of the OS X operating system (i.e., a newer version than you do on Windows).  I assume it's set up this way because it's a service provided customers purchasing Apple devices that utilize iCloud syncing services, and if you happen to also you own a PC, it will sync with that as well.  It wouldn't make sense for them to provide this service, including a free 5GB iCloud account, hosting for backups, syncing services, free photo stream, etc. for non-Apple customers (who, for example, may only own a PC).
If you have a friend with one of these devices who is willing to let you create the account on their device, you could then use it on your PC.  They would have to delete the existing account from their device in Settings>iCloud, then let you sign in with your ID to create a new account, then delete this account from their device and sign back into their own account.  You could then use this ID to sign into the newly created account on your PC.  Note: each device can only create 3 iCloud accounts, so you would be using one of their 3 alotted accounts, but they may be willing to do this for you.
iCloud is really designed to keep your data in sync across multiple devices that you may own, and with your computer.  It will also automatically back up your device, stream photos taken on one device to all your other devices, and allow you to locate a misplaced device using Find My iPhone.  It doesn't, however, sync music if that's what you're looking for.
If you want to be able to access your music from iCloud you don't need an iCloud account for this.  As mentioned earlier, music purchased from the iTunes store is already available in iCloud.  Music from other sources, such as in your case, can only be accessed from iCloud if you subscribe to iTunes Match (see http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/).  If you do, you can then upload your iTunes library (up to 25,000 songs) to iCloud an access them from an iOS device via iCloud, even without an iCloud account.  Music purchased from other sources that is copy protected (contains DRM) is not eligible and will not be uploaded to iCloud so be sure your music purchased from Amazon doesn't contain DRM before subscribing.

  • Apple service diagnostic cd - where to find???

    Hello,
Having found out that there exists such a strong and powerful set of utilities for diagnosing hardware on the mac, does anyone know where I can find this? I am looking for ASDCD 2.1.5 which works with all MDD G4s and FW800 G4s. I was told that its much more powerful and comprehensive compared to the AHTCD.
    Thanks,
    Nadav

The disks Nadav seeks are not the freely available Apple Hardware Test downloads you linked. Note his sentence:
I was told that its much more powerful and comprehensive compared to the AHTCD
I read "AHTCD as "Apple Hardware Test CD" and "ASDCD as "Apple Service Disk CD." Apple certified techs get additional service tools not available to us mortals.
The link you provided is for the AHT that comes on the system CDs/DVDs, posted as a courtesy for those who have lost their gray system disks. From his wording, I believe Nadav has the AHT CD.
The "walk the plank" reference was to Apple's success in getting third-party sites posting "not-for-release" internal Apple software to remove the downloads.
