Same way as any other app.
Go to the AppStore, type "facebook" into the Search box, then click the button to download/install alongside the app listing.
You can either do this directly on the phone, or in iTunes on your computer and then sync the app to the phone.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

If you're unable to connect to the App Store to download the Facebook app, I would follow these directions:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General >Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General> Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check theuser guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

Hi everyone,
I just got an iPhone 3 and went into the App Store and I'm unable to download Facebook from the App Store. I seem to be able to download any others, but this one. I get an error that I need to update the iOS to 4.3 but when I connect to my iTunes it doesn't show an update. Is there anything that can fix this?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The new version won't work on your phone. It requires at least iOS 4.3 and the 3G cannot be updated beyond iOS 4.2.1. (You'll have to complain to Facebook if you want to see this changed.)
