  • How to download maverick?

I need to update one of my computers to instal Pages... I really DON'T want Yosemite (not only it's super ugly but i've read way to much bad stuff about this system). My other computer is on Maverick and is working fine. I want to update the second one but can't find how to download it.
Right now the computer is on 10.7.3

Have you ever downloaded Mavericks? If so, then as long as you are using 10.7.3 you can upgrade to Mavericks on the App Store.

  • HT201364 How to download Mavericks

I have a new MBP with Mavericks "factory installed". I want to make a USB recovery drive. Step 1 in this procedure requires me to download a copy of the Mavericks installer app. However, the App Store will not let me download it. Please advise how to download the Maverics install app.

There are two ways to download Mavericks on pre-installed systems.
    1. Restart using Command+R to boot into the Recovery HD. From the OS X Utilities Menu, select Reinstall OS X.
    2. Restart using Command+Option+R to boot into Internet Recovery which boots into Apple's servers and their Recovery HD. From the OS X Utilities Menu, select Reinstall OS X.
The above 2 methods will download AND install Mavericks to the target drive.
What you might try is the following to extract the necessary file(s) to create a USB thumb drive installer:
Plug in a formated USB external drive (not a USB thumb drive unless its 32GB) and point to that drive to install to.
You will have to watch the download and when your Mac restarts after the download and at the black screen, unplug your external drive. You should boot to your normal Desktop.
Plug your USB external drive back in and look for an InstallESD.dmg file. It might be in a folder named something like "OS X Install Files". Copy it some where like your ~/Downloads folder or your ~/Desktop.
Download DiskMaker X 3.0.3. When prompted for the Install OS X Mavericks.app file, point to the InstallESD.dmg file from the above step. Point to a USB thumb drive (8GB) as the destination drive.
I don't know if the above steps will work as I don't have a Mac with Mavericks pre-installed. But I got that last step from the DiskMaker X FAQ under the question of "I got my version of OS X pre-installed with my Mac. How can I get the OS X installer ?"

  • How to download Mavericks

I connected my Mac Mini via Ethernet in order to download Mavericks. I chose a nighttime download. My Mac runs Mountain Lion. After eleven hours it has pausd on 900 MB, and states that there is an error. This is my third attempt and it always ends this way. Any suggestions?

Make sure your Mac can run Mavericks.

  • HT201364 how to download mavericks, with lion installed?

Can I download Maverick for free?.

thank you for your response. I had Mavericks installed on my computer and after updating to Yosemite my computer ran slow. Very slow. Dead slow. So I restarted it with its original OS software which is Lion. I was hoping to get back to Mavericks where I had no issues with.

  • How to download Mavericks now Yosemite has been released?

I have been running 10.7.5 since purchasing the machine with no problem. Now I'm finding that there are programmes Lion doesn't support and would like to upgrade to Mavericks (until very recently this was a free upgrade).
I've just spoken to Apple support to ask how I can go about this, but have been advised that Mavericks is no longer available (either as a free download or to purchase) and I'd have to jump straight to Yosemite!
This seems completely non-sensical as Yosemite has literally only just hit the market and seemingly has LOTS of problems.
Can anyone help please as to how I might obtain an upgrade to Mavericks?
    Many thanks.

Mountain Lion may be one solution. Check your applications to see what the minimum OS requirement is for newer versions.
Keep in mind that you do NOT necessarily have to apply any OS upgrade to your existing system, and in my opinion, you should not, unless you have made a complete bootable clone of your existing system on an external drive, so that you have a working version of your system in case of severe problems. SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner will both make a bootable clone of your system.
Invest in a good external drive such as those sold by OWC (macsales.com). I'm not a fan of the frequently cheap enclosures and dubious software sold by drive manufacturers such as Seagate, WD, etc. If you buy from OWC, you will get a good enclosure that can be opened easily and used with other drives, etc.
You can download Yosemite (or Mountain Lion) and install it on the new external drive rather than over your existing system. You can then test-drive it thoroughly with your critical applications.
Note that whether you choose Mountain Lion or Yosemite or both, you should save a copy of the installer application for future use. The "Install OS X Whatever Version.app" gets downloaded into your Applications folder. It launches right after the download is completed. You do NOT have to click on "Continue" at this point. You simply Quit the application, and option-drag it to copy it to a safe location outside of the Applications folder. You do this because the installer application (5+ GB) very unhelpfully deletes itself after it finishes installing. I maintain a folder of Installers for OS upgrades and incremental updates, as well as application installers and updates, and would recommend doing this.
You can also use DiskmakerX to create bootable copies of your OS installers on flash drives: http://diskmakerx.com/
Once you have made a backup copy of the installer(s), you can go back to your Applications folder and run the installer, directing it to install on your external drive. A clean install is probably the safest option. But you can also clone your existing system to the external drive, and install the OS upgrade onto the cloned system, if you want to see whether anything in your existing setup is going to cause problems. If you see problems, you can just erase and start over with a clean re-installation on the external drive.

  • How to download Mavericks in 2015?

I would like to install Mavericks, not Yosemite, on a early 2008 iMac (3 gig ram). I can't find the download - where can I find it?

If you downloaded the full installer before Yosemite came out, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.
    If not, you can’t.

  • How to download Mavericks a second time?

I have limited bandwidth at home so downloaded and installed Mavericks on my Air at work.
I also have a 27" iMac at home. I thought I would be able to use the same down load to update both machines but it was deleted once I installed it on my Air. Now I cannot download it again on the Air.
I go to App store and click to down load it, it says it is already installed and asks me to hit continue if I wish to download again, which I do but then nothing happens and no download starts. Any Ideas anyone? Is it a bug in the App Store?

Open App Store, click on Purchases icon in the toolbar. Locate your Mavericks purchase and click on the re-download button on the right. Note that since you have Mavericks installed you cannot re-download it. If you wish to reinstall it:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Presently have Snow  Leopard and want to upgrade to Maverick but don't want to lose data.  How to download safely? don't am worried about losing info.  How to download it without risk to current data.

Am currently using Snow Leopard and do not have access to I Cloud or latest version of I Photo.  Understand I can download Maverick free but am worried about losing data.  How to download Maverick and safeguard present files?

Mac OS X upgrades are designed so that none of your existing Applications or User data are intentionally deleted during a System Upgrade.
That works as long as there are no problems whatsoever.
Your best protection from data loss is good Backups. Before you upgrade, buy an External Drive at least 2 to 3 times the size of your User Data, and Turn on Time Machine. USB-2 enclosure drives are cheap, and fast enough for backups. If you will use this drive for everyday data, a faster interface would be much better.
Time Machine works quietly in the background, and does not "take over" your Mac to do the Backups. After the first large backup, it will quietly back up hourly, copying only the things that have changed since the last Backup. Time Machine is not the only Backup solution, or even the best solution out there. But it tends to be the Backup that actually happens, because you don't have to download any software, do extensive setup, or think about whether you should do it now or later.

  • How to keep firefox from constantly downloading mavericks, which it can'open?

I tried to update to mavericks, but am unable to open the files to install. From what I have read this is probably a good thing; however now firefox keeps on downloading the files and I can't seem to make it stop. Each time I open firefox the whole process starts again..

You should actually update to mavericks, it's a good solid update and plus, your version of Mac isn't getting security updates anymore, meaning it's vulnerable to attack (despite public opinion Mac isn't invulnerable).
This isn't really a Firefox question anyway..... You install Mavericks via the App store, not through Firefox. http://www.macworld.com/article/2056564/how-to-install-mavericks-over-leopard.html

how can i download maverick and keep snow leopard,i am not very tech savy

You'll be given the option to change the target after the download is complete and before the actual installation begins. The process is otherwise the same as normal.
