How to download music already purchased to new computer?

I just purchased new computer, old one crashed. How can I download music that I already purchased from i-tunes to my new computer?

Welcome to AD!
Sadly, you don't - iTunes Store give you one download, and you're supposed to back it up in case your PC crashes.

Do you have all your music on an iPod? You could get it back from that.

how to transfer music from iphone to new computer

iTunes will transfer your purchases from your iPhone to your new computer by using File>Transfer Purchases. For the rest of the content that’s on your iPhone use a program called TouchCopy which works on Windows and the Mac. It transferred my music, photos, contacts and SMS to my new computer very well.

If it is stolen , how are you going to sync it?

    Plug it in.

    New computer??? Or new iPhone?
I know how to copy my music library to my new computer but struggling with copying the contacts etc. Where do I find the contacts folder on my old computer?
I suggest you simply copy your entire User folder from old computer to new computer. This way all your data (Music, photos, contacts, emails, calendars, documents, etc.)  goes across.

If you are a U.S. resident follow the instructions here >  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Don't forget to "authorize" your new computer. From the iTunes menu bar click, Store / Authorize This Computer.

  • Download music already purchased... What the??

I downloaded a album from iTunes.  1/4 of the songs were only 3-5 secs long.  That wasn't right, so I deleted the album with intent of downloading it again.  I clicked on the "purchased" link, and the album isn't there.  It is under "purchase history" of my "account information."  Hmmmmm...

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

That is correct.  the music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The iphone is not a backup device.
Copy everything from the old computer, or backup copy of the old computer, to the new one.

  • HOW DO DOWNLOAD MUSIC FROM MY SHUFFLE TO COMPUTER

how do I download music onto my itunes library from a ipod shuffle, new and older models?

You can't transfer song files from iPod to Mac using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download previously purchased songs on the iTunes Store Purchased screen).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that allow transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your Mac, drag the song files (or the folder containing the song files) to the iTunes window to add them to your iTunes library.

I was able to find an article that I believe will help you move your iTunes purchases from your iPhone over to your new computer:

  • Can't download music from iPod to new computer

    Hello Friends,
My computer suddenly died and all I've got is an iPod loaded with music. Can anyone tell me how to download the music from the iPod to the computer? All I can find on Apple is how to do it with a working computer. Thanks.

Buy a 3rd-party ipod manager program - CopyTrans gets good reviews.
For the $20, it is probably worth it.

  • How to transfer music on Ipod to new computer.

    Hi,
My old computer crashed. I now have a new one, but I can't sync my ipod to itunes without it wanting to erase all the music and videos on my ipod. How do I sync it and get my ipod stuff onto my new computer's itunes?
(I read on here how to do it if I still had my old computer files, but I don't have access to my old crashed computer. Just the music and videos on my Ipod)
    Thanks!!

Oh my gosh, same problem! I'm so mad because I spent so much time (and money for that matter) downloading everything onto my iPod. Then my hard drive crashed and I hadn't had a chance yet to copy everything. So irritated that I just lost everything. I feel for you. Unfortunately I'll have to go back through and do it all again. I hope you find a way, good luck!

  • How to sync music from iPhone onto new computer

I had my iPhone synced to my old computer. I connected it to my new computer and it won't allow me to put any of my old music onto iTunes without deleting it all first. How can I keep my old music and put it onto my new iTunes?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • How to sync music library to a new computer after my old one crashed

I am trying to sync my music library from my ipone 4 to a new computer since my old one crashed.  Is there a way to do this without looking my music?

    Hi scotttwoodward1985,
I'm sorry to hear that your computer crashed--that's never any fun. You definitely may download Acrobat and reinstall it. You can download it from this page: Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • No backup and need to download music FROM ipod to new computer library

My computer crashed and I am on a new computer. I have no back up of my library. I want to upload my music FROM my ipod to my new computer's library. Any help?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
