How to download pdf files right away?

Background:
Our company(Jinisys Software Inc.) targets hotel owners to download our brochure(pdf) about hotel management system.
We have different pdf files on few of our webpages. I'd like to point out that adobe did a great job in displaying the pdf after I click our pdf link, my concern is we have a word "Download brochure" after you click this the pdf gets displayed on the browser, which is a little misleading because we indicated the word "download" so it should directly be downloaded not displayed.
Our reason not to dispay on the browser is that it takes a few more steps to download the file, that after it's being displayed on the browser which is easy for the user to close it after reading, where as if the user downloaded the file into his file system he has various of ways to disseminate it.
Here is a sample from our several pages that we have the "download" action.
Thank you.

When clicking View, it opens according to the browser setting; when clicking Download, it will immediately download it to the default download folder.
Not quite. Clicking View will open the file in Google's own web-based PDF viewer. Clicking Download will send the file to the browser and then the browser does what it is set up to do with that file type: Save it, Open it, or Prompt the user. It doesn't automatically download the file.

  • How to edit a downloaded .pdf file?

    Hi! Have a downloaded .pdf file, (application for employment form) My options are to print out/fill out. I want to know if there is a way that I can edit the application so that I can fill it out on line (Neater) then print. Between a 2004 version of Word, plus Keynote, Pages and Adobe 8, I can't edit the application. I called Apple and they said there is no way that I edit a pdf file so that I can complete the application on line. There must be a way to do this, right? Thanks, Bill

    Yes, there is a way. First, if check the security on the pdf. Adobe has many levels of security, so that files can be printed but not edited and not made into smaller files, etc.
    Usually you would need the real Adobe app, not the reader. But then, even though Adobe can edit pdf files, it will not do so if the file is protected. You normally would be asked for a password when you attempt to modify a PW-protected pdf document.
    That all being said, if the document is protected I can only refer you to ghostscript, ghostview and GSView.

  • How do I call browser Save As dialog box before downloading pdf files?

    How do I call browser Save As dialog box before downloading pdf files?
    Here's my favorite scenario:
    1. User clicks button
    2. Save As dialog displays
    3. User chooses location
    4. A set of PDF files download to that location OR a single zip file downloads
    Background:
    I want to ensure the user sees that files are being downloaded. I'm delivering content to users who may not be Web savvy.
    Concern:
    1. User has no clue how to find downloaded files or that files have even downloaded.
    2. I'd like to deliver the set as zip files. Not sure if self-opening zip files still exist.
    FYI:
    I'm using jQuery UI buttons. Not sure if that factors into response.

    Just for clarity, I'm not forcing a download. The user will click a button.
    Click a button or click a link, either way you're technically executing a script to force a download.
    I'm assuming that's the php file resident on the server.
    Yes but that's only part of it.  Once the contact form executes, another script is called up which opens the browser's download dialogue.
    Is there a php script for simply calling the Open/Save dialog box?
    Yes.
    <?php
    /* This short script forces a file download.
       For simplicity, it's intended to be used for a single file.
       You can use multiple copies of this file (with unique names)
       with different variable values to use it with multiple files.
       Use of this script has a side-effect of hiding the location of the
       file on your server.
    // full server path to file to be downloaded (including filename)
    $Path2File = "path/to-file-on-server.zip";
    // the filename
    $theFileName = "name-of-file.zip";
    //the work gets done here
    header ("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
    header ("Content-Type: application/octet-stream");
    header ("Content-Length: " . filesize($Path2File));
    header ("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$theFileName");
    readfile($Path2File);
    ?>
    Name this file zip2download.php.
    Add a link to your HTML page:

    Back up all data.
    Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    On your web page select the text ot the object you want to link the pdf-file to.
    Then open the Inspector window (View -> Show Inspector or alt-cmd-I) and open the Hyperlink tab (marked by the blue arrow).
    Select "enable as Hyper link" and set the "Link to" selector  to "a file".
    In the File chooser select your pdf-file.
    If your file is large, you might set the selector to "an external link". Then you enter the URL and it is would be your responsebility to upload the file to its site.

  • How to make pdf file auto open with adobe reader after downloaded

    how to make pdf file auto open with adobe reader after downloaded

    I note from your system details that you have the plugin for adobe pdf s so I would have expected the files should open in firefox '''without''' you needing to explicitly download them.
    Once the files are open in firefox, you will also get the option to save them permanently to a location on your computer. If you wish I suppose you could set the file type pdf to be associated with and be opened by firefox instead of with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but that would just seem to be an additional complexity.

  • When I try to open a downloaded PDF file it opens for about 6 seconds and then closes - how can I fix that?

    I am using a Dell XPS8500 desktop with 64 bit Windows 7.
    No problem downloading PDF files but when I open them they disappear before I can print.

    Hello,
    Which application are you trying to open the PDF files in? Firefox or Adobe Reader? Or another?
    If adobe reader then please make sure that your copy is up to date. You can get the latest version here - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
    Also I notice that you are using Firefox 19. Unless you have a particular reason to run an old version of Firefox is it much better to keep updated. The latest version is v22. New security fixes are applied in every new version of Firefox. Without them your PC is vulnerable. Please see this article: [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]

  • How do I get commands to display on a "full screen" display of a downloaded PDF file?

    In recent months, more and more downloaded PDF files are displayed on my Mac Pro without the command line at the top of the page.  This makes using & managing the documents difficult, and sometimes impossible.  I can gain access to a limited number of commands by clicking on the doc, but noto nearly the range of commands available when the command line is visible.  I still have many older PDF files that display in the usual manner.  Is this a change associated with Lion or the latest Adobe update?  Or, si there a command I do not know about that will restore the command line?

    Adobe Reader for iOS doesn't have command lines.
