How to download snow leopard

I'm having trouble finding the snow leopard update on the apple site.  I have an old macbook and need to purchase the update, but not mountain lion.

I found this to be a huge inconvenience; I received the iPhone 5, activated it, went to sync up with my MacPro, receive a computer message that I needed an udpated version of iTunes, went to update iTunes and received a message I could not download the update  because I needed OS X 10.6.8 or later for my Mac.  Couldn't find anything called OS X 10.6.8; found the Mountain Lion, read couldn't update that without Snow Leopard, couldn't find Snow Leopard download, called Apple support, dealt with mechanical customer service person, was on hold for 15 minutes (finally off of the mechanical), talked with support for iPhone who transferred me to support for MacPro who was going to send me back to iPhone support until I said "NO, they sent me to you to update my software."  Spent another 1/2 hour on the phone with MacPro support while he figured everything out, had me buy the Snow Leopard disk which they are going to mail ground for FREE (oh yea); so at this point I can wait 5 more days for my iPhone 5 to be up and running (hopefully no more surpirses) with all my information!  Ridiculous; this should have all been disclosed at the time of purchase so that Snow Leopard (foolish name) could have also been ordered so you have everything you need. Spent over 2 hours between searching on line, telephoning, being placed on hold, trasnferred and the tech trying to piece it all together!  Apple, I am very disappointed in your customer service and the education of your present customers to avoid these pitfalls and frustration after speniding all this money on Apple proudcts!!!  Good luck to everyone else!  This iPhone 5 better be worth it!!

  • How/Where to download Snow Leopard?

I apologize if this has been asked before.
I'm trying to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I've been putting it off for a long time, and I know my computer can handle at least as high as OS X 10.7 (Lion). But where do I go to download Snow Leopard? The physical copies of it seem to be in short supply (although earlier this year they still seemed to be relatively easy to find). I've searched the Apple Store and the support section, and I can't find a direct download. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be a very happy man.
    Thanks in advance.

Phone the Apple Store and order a DVD of it.

  • How do I download snow leopard?

I've just learned that I need to download Snow Leopard in order to then download Mountain Lion. Only problem is, I can't find anywhere to download snow leopard. I currently have Mac OS X 10.5.8, any help is appreciated.

Although Snow Leopard is no longer listed in the Apple Store, you can still buy it by calling them at 1-800-MY-APPLE and asking for it.  The price should be about $30 (plus tax).

  • I want to use iMovie 6 on my new MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5. It won't download. Can I download Snow Leopard instead and use iMovie 6 with that older OS?

I have a MacBook Pro I recently purchased 'cause my old G4 just couldn't output my video films properly. My new MacBook Pro is running 10.7.5 OS Lion. Don't like iMovie 11 and want to use iMovie 6. It won't download on Lion. Could I download Snow Leopard (deleting OS 10.7.5) and use iMovie 6 then? I saw a previous thread that said that could be done.

AppleMan...I have the same iMac you have...i-7 16GB with a SSD....just bought it second hand and it is about 1.5 years old....it was maxed out with upgrades when the original owner bought it.  It was also restored back to factory settings prior to me taking possession.
I am making home movies in iMovie 11....max length 30 minutes or less.  I am totally new to this editing.  I am using HD footgage filmed from my Hero GoPro 3.  I am finding that the movies that I am creating are skipping, staggering, hanging up etc...usually where I had transitions.  I am certain I have enough power and memory in my iMac, so what's the issue?  I read one of your other posts about optimizing each event or clip to 1080p?  Is this what I need to do for every clip I import?  Can I do this for all the clips at once on import?  I also read that I may need to export the movie to quick time for smooth playback??
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Matt

Since I downloaded snow leopard, I cant view my movies in Iphoto. There is absolutely no response. (it does not default to anything else). Is anyone else having this problem? Suggestions please. My Iphoto says 7.1.5

i am sorry - i did do  all of that. But I am hitting a brick wall. The closing comment after I did so said install complete and followed up by saying :
You may have installed Mac OS X software that is older than your current version of Mac OS X, and may not work properly. To ensure the best experience please download and install the latest version of the Mac OS X Combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/ . You should do this even if you currently have the latest Mac OS X update installed.
BUT when I check to see what version of QT I have it says 10 (not 7) even though I clicked on 7. I think I need to uninstall everything and start again. Sadly, i dont even know how to do that!

You cannot download the upgrade to Snow Leopard.

  • Why can a person buy and/or download Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion but not Mavericks???

I am running OS X Lion on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with 4GB of ram and a 160GB HDD. I was going to download Mavericks from the app store but waited to long. Now that Yosemite is out Mavericks has disappeared from the app store. WHY? A person can buy and/or download Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion but not Mavericks??? And the kicker is that it was FREE!!! I just wanted to load Mavericks on my MacBook Pro to see how it performs. If I could live with any slow downs or quirks, I'd leave it installed. If not, I'd roll my system back. Apple's policy of ramrodding unstable product down our throat is BS. I don't want to use Yosemite until it has become more stable!

  • How to get snow leopard 10.6 on black macbook?

I have a 2008 black macbook that is stuck on 10.5.8. I tried to download things to update to yosemite however it needs to be on 10.6 to work. This is frustrating because I cannot download and use update browsers, final cut pro x or microsoft word packages. I downloaded snow leopard, but whenever I try to open it I get "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.6." which is what I am attempting to update to so I'm lost on that. How can I get snow leopard 10.6 on this early 2008 black macbook?

You need to buy it on DVD.

Snow Leopard (10.6) isn't available as a download.
You buy it at the Apple Store and it ships on a DVD. Software update brings it to 10.6.8 which includes the App Store where you can download Mavericks for free.

Snow Leopard is only available on disk. Furthermore, even if you had a working disk drive, you may not be able to install Snow Leopard anyway, depending on just how "old" your Mac is. It must have an Intel processor to run Snow Leopard (Macs with Intel processors were first made in 2006), among other requirements.
