How to downsample a grayscale pdf to a monochrome?

Hello!
How to downsample all pages in a pdf file (which are grayscale bitmaps) to monochrome?
Best regards,
Dmitry

Balaji,
In your second command, you copied the "*" from my post. That is not part of the command. It supposed to turn the text into bold. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
My suggestion was for you to try to work with a single-band image. I don't know what are the other commands you have in your code but are you sure that the error message "invalid band and layer number" is coming from sdo_geor.createTemplate? You might have some code after that is still expecting the 3 bands and that is where the error is coming from.
So here is the summary:
If what you want to see is a "grayscale" image and your data type is 32BIT_REAL, there is no need to 3 bands. If you have to have 3 bands. You can use GeoRasterViewer and play with the option "View>Show Layer Mapping" or alt+p to select the band you want to see. If you want to see band 1, select "1" for Red, "1" for Green and "1" for Blue and click on "Refresh".
Photo viewers can only handle well unsigned 8 bit integer. I suspect. On GeoRasterView you might try the "Image" processing option to find the best representation of the cell values of that image.
Regards,
Ivan

  • How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo's?

After reading dozens of forum, I still don’t found the answer.
I made a photobook with full-colur and B/W photos for Offset printing. I want the B/W to be in grayscale to avoid color possible color shades. It seems InDesign doesn’t support grayscale, the images become way to dark. Even with exporting without any colour conversion or destination and/or including original colour profiles, the grayscale pictures are being exported to dark to PDF.
How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo’s?

Yes, the Photoshop & ID CMYK working spaces are the same
This can get difficult because the 3 programs handle soft proofing differently.
The working spaces don't matter, it's the document profile(s) that manage the preview. So here is the same grayscale image placed in ID on top and PS on the bottom. I've set my Photoshop info to show the doc profile in the lower left corner. I can see my InDesign's Document CMYK profile in my Proof Setup (the Working CMYK is different and isn't being used). Both profiles are effectively the same Coated FOGRA39 (Black Ink FOGRA in the case of PS).
But the previews don't match because I have Overprint turned off, so the InDesign preview is Gamma 2.2 or a "screen" media preview.
If I turn on Overprint preview I get a match because I'm soft proofing for print:

  • Covert color pdf to grayscale pdf in Acrobat 6.0

I have a number of color pdfs that I would like to convert into grayscale pdfs using Acrobat 6.0. How do I go about doing this? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Acrobat 6 is many version ago. I don't remember Acrobat 6 having that capability. I think people used to use Pitstop to do things like that. I'm sure someone with a better memory than mine will stop by with more information. Have you tried to search the help file?

  • Printing IDCS3 File with Placed Grayscale PDF...

My client has sent me a grayscale PDF which I have imported into an IDCS3 file. When I run this to my imagesetter as a Composite Gray file selected in the Print Dialog box, it will run blank CMY plates as well as the K plate which will have the image on it. I can't seem to disable the sending of the unwanted CMY plates.
I can also choose to run this as a Separations and select just the black plate but then the grayscale pictures seem to lose their depth as it is just running the black element of what is probably a CMYK or RGB image that has been converted to look Gray.
Can anyone tell me how I can run the file as a Grayscale file and just the Black plate go to the imagesetter?
    Many thanks,
    David

Change the Colour dropdown from Composite Grey to Seperations. Then turn off the plates you dont want.
Sorry should have read your whole thread.
Yes you will have to convert the file to greyscale in Acrobat to fix your problem.
Also try printing Composite Unchanged. That might get you the result you are after.

  • Adjusting contrast on grayscale pdf image

On Photoshop 6.0 I was able to adjust the contrast of a grayscale pdf image by going to image-adjustments-brightness/contrast,increasing the contrast, hitting ok. I could then save the image file. I just obtained Photoshop CS3 and things do not work that way. I do not see any change when I increase the contrast. However, I see an increase in contrast when I lower the brightness, but when I click ok, the contrast goes back to where it was.
How do I increase the contrast and save the image?

I'm sure I've asked this before, but why don't you use code tags?

  • Grayscale pdf output possible?

How do you output a grayscale pdf from InDesign?
I know of outputting it from ID and bringing it into Acrobat and Converting to the Gray Gamma profile.
Or printing it from ID using the Composite Gray color setting as a Postscript file and then running it through Distiller.
I am looking for a one-step process to do it from InDesign. Do you know of another way?
    Cheers,
    Matt

Right, it's a problem in Snow Leopard. It looked to me as if you were answering the question of what method to use in Snow Leopard, and print to PS is problematic. For that matter, the result is the same if you print to PS and distill or do it in one step by printing to PDF if you use the same settings, so unless you use a watched folder for distiller, I can't see any reason to use two steps.

  • How can I speed up PDF generation?

I am working on 2 manuals in Frame 10, unstructured. I have installed all the latest FM patches. The smaller manual is 270 pages with 200 graphics inserted by reference. It takes 2.5 hours to "Save as PDF." The larger manual is 500 pages, 250 graphics and takes 3 hours to "Save as PDF".
I have converted graphics to smaller .jpg files. I have freed up as much space on my PC as possible - it has 4GB memory and 300 GB hard drive space available, dual processor with i3 chip. I delete Temp files and reboot before creating PDF.
If I turn off graphics (Esc+v+v), the PDF is created in just a few minutes.
What else can I do to produce a complete PDF with graphics in a reasonable amount of time?

I am a lone writer working on a single PC. No network drives. I open all files in the book before creating PDF.
Many of the graphics are product photos - how to assemble, etc. I was provided with .psd and .jpg versions. Originally inserted the .psd ones, but then consultant advised us to use the .jpg instead. PDF generation is extremely long either way. Also had numerous huge .tif files that I saved to much smaller .jpg.
Manuals will be localized and printed. What type of graphics are advised in this case - for good print quality and efficient PDF generation?

Are the Frame files and/or the imported objects coming from network servers? If so, you might get a speed up by saving to manual to the local machine prior to printing, and printing to PostScript, where the .ps file is on the local machine. Then Distill separately (if you have the full Acrobat product). Distilling separately* at least frees up Frame for that part of the rendering. I have converted graphics to smaller .jpg files. From what? And I wouldn't have bet that using JPEG would help. The files may be smaller, but they still need to be filtered for export to Ps or PDF, and if they are raster, they may be subject to further processing during PDF generation based on the subsampling specified. You might try sending the objects as EPS (which requires minimal processing into Ps), and you might try making sure that raster images are already at the desired dpi, and require no further downsampling in the rendering flow.

    Hi Flávia,
Adobe PDF Pack is an online subscription--it definitely allows you to combine several files into one PDF file. For more information about PDF Pack, see Reliably Create PDFs, Convert PDFs, & Merge PDFs Online | Adobe PDF Pack. If you don't have the full version of Acrobat, this is a great solution for combining PDF files.
However, if you're using Acrobat (not Adobe Reader), you combine files by following these steps:
Open a PDF file that you want to add pages to.
Click the Pages pane on the Tools panel (on the right side of the application).
Click Insert From File, and choose the file that you want to combine with the PDF that you opened in step 1.
Make any changes necessary in the Insert Pages dialog box--these settings determine where the new file will be inserted.
    Click OK.
Please let me know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

    Hello,
I'm new here, so please excuse me if I do or say something I shouldn't.
I need to change the words in a musical score because the font is too small. OCR recognition doesn"t work because there are illustrations that are different from images or text... Is there a way to get in there and make the changes I need to do?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but I have Adobe Reader 9 Pro. Will it still not

I am afraid if i don't get the pdfs into my book library, i will lose them when i update to IOS 5-is that true?

thank you-i have to check into the authorization and the account-i gave my husband my old ipod when i updated last year so both at one time have been on this computer but as it stands, it only comes up with my device when i plug into Itunes.
i don't think i have any restrictions for installing apps although my normal way of doing it is to download from the ipod touch. i did find that all i had to do was right click on my device name and got the message to transfer my apps and then they showed up in my library. Also when i clicked the synch checkbox i was able to view the ipod touch picture without it being greyed out. after all that i was able toupdate to IOS 5 successfully except my videos and podcast, and pdfs  did not come over. This confuses me since i had dragged them over to my library to make sure that i had everything in my library and on my device. Not a big problem, since i just dragged them in itunes from my library to my device but sometimes i wonder if i understand the big picture:)

How can I prevent a PDF file from being copied, printed or downloaded? Students should only be able to view the text and and not distribute it in any way.

You can prevent it from being printed by applying a security policy to it
in Acrobat. The rest can't be prevented, unless you spend  a LOT of money
    on DRM protection.
