How to downsize 4K to HD 1080p

Starting to work with 4K  using FCPX 10.3. I've told that I should edit the original files in 4 K in the timeline and then export or Share to 1080 in order to get the best quality possible at the 1080 HD results. I am on a nMP 6 core with dual 700 graphic cards so the 4K would not have any problem playing well, I think.
Ia this true???? or is there a better way.
Thanks,
AplleLou

I hope people that have actually done it may chime in, but my workflow is "create the project at the size of the desired output".
Most of my projects are 720p, and my camera records in 1080p. This has the advantage of being able to use the extra pixels for either reframing or zooming without loss of quality. This would be even more the case in your situation with all those extra pixels. Plus, you may need to add some stock footage or graphics that are not 4K - this would cause quality degradation if your were to edit in 4K and then downsize for export.
Note that if you edit 4K material into a 1080p timeline FCP X will still have access to all the original pixels - that is why you may be able to scale to 200% without any loss.

how to split pdf files also how to downsize a pdf file?

    Hi Ali,
If the PDF file you're starting with is larger than 100MB, ExportPDF won't be able to convert it.
To convert a file of that size and to create separate files, you'll need Adobe Acrobat.  You'd need Acrobat to divide the file into smaller chunks for ExportPDF anyhow, so Acrobat is probably the best solution for you.  You can learn more about Acrobat here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html

Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much free RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • How to change my resolution to 1080p@120hz?

I have mac mini late 2012 and BenQ XL2420t, connected through minidisplayport -> displayport, but macos settings lets me change resolution to 1080p@100hz maximum.
Is there any way to fix this problem?

Yeah, I cant guarantee it but...
    Dual-link DVI
To support display devices requiring higher video bandwidth, there is provision for a dual DVI link. A dual link doubles the number of TMDS pairs, effectively doubling video bandwidth at a given pixel clock frequency. The DVI specification mandates how the dual link may be used. All display modes that use a pixel clock below 165 MHz, and have at most 24 bits per pixel, are required to use single-link mode. All modes that require more than 24 bits per pixel, and/or 165 MHz pixel clock frequency must use dual-link mode. In modes where each pixel uses 24 bits of color data per pixel or less and dual-link mode is in use, the transmitter stripes pixel data across both links; each sequential video pixel is transmitted on alternate links. In modes with color depth greater than 24 bits per pixel, the second link carries the least significant bits of each pixel.

  • How do I avoid rendering my 1080p HD footage?

    Hello!
I have a Sanyo Xacti Full HD VPC-CG20 camcorder and I was wondering how I would avoid rendering in Final Cut Express 4? I have heard of MPEG Streamclip, however it does not, to my knowledge, export in a format compatible with fce4 and keep it's 1080p HD. Yes, I have raised the quality to 100%, but when I import it to FCE it's not widescreen 1080x1920p.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you,
    Leigh

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Use Streamclip to convert to Quicktime in the Apple Intermediate Codec at a frame size of 1920x1080, a frame rate of 29.97, and audio set to Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz. The program has a batch convert function if you need to convert multiple clips. Import the converted footage into FCE and edit in a 1920x1080i60 sequence (make sure you've updated to FCE4.0.1 first through Software Update).

  • How to setup my camera for 1080p video

    Hi !  I did some video with my new iPhone 5 and the resolution is not 1080p it's only 500 ? x 300 ? And not 1920x1080.
Is there an explanation ? Is there a configuration that i did not see ?
    Thank you !

The camera on the back of the iPhone 5 shoots in a higher resolution than the camera on the front of the iPhone.
Try tapping the switch camera icon at the top right corner of the screen, when recording.

  • How to downsize a QuickTime file for uploading?

I want to upload a short film to vimeo.
I have made a QuickTime movie by simply exporting to via QuickTime Movie in my Export option (instead of the Quick Time conversion I usually use) in order to have a high quality master.
The QT movie file weighs 2.13 GB, so it's too big to upload.
How do I make a copy the is less than 500 MB?
Can I easily calibrate the size?

Compressor is the way to go.
It's actually simple to get going with once you've had a few tries - though it does require an understanding of codecs and the limitations of certain distribution media types, etc. I sometimes think it's more art than science when it comes to getting the best possible results. That said, there is a pre-made setting for online media like youtube and vimeo in Compressor 4 but I've not tried it.
But anyway, compressor has a built in Help menu, with access to the user guide which is pretty good.

  • How to "downsize" pix in the iPhoto Library?

Background: I provided my grandmother with a MacMini (still PowerPC version, 40GB only; ca. 2002?) for email, iPhotos and Skype; it is hooked up to her TV set.   The pictures we take are often of 1 or 2 or more MB each, hence would "fill" her MacMini too fast with a resolution that she does not need.
Is there a way to "batch" process the downsizing of my iPhotoLibrary (other than just "exporting" pix), because I would like to preserve the events and album structure and related info as titles, faces, etc.
    Thanks for any suggestions/pointers/commiserations  :-)
    Cheers, Veit

    Additional question:
I exported pictures from the iPhotoLibrary (with the settings: JPEG, jpeq quality: medium, including titles and keywords, size: large, and using Album name with number) which reduced some 6,000 pix to about 2GB.  Fine!
But! the pix all have todays creation date, NOT the actual date when they were taken! :-(((   Is there a way to export the actual creation date? or to overcome this problem in some other fashion?
    Thanks, and cheers, Veit

  • How to combine (720p 60fps) with (1080p 30fps)

    hi all
I have adobe premiere pro CS5 and a gopro hero HD2
So my question is : How can i edit one single movie coming from footages shot with different qualities, like 1080 at 30 fps and 720 at 60 fps ?, what kind of sequence should i open at first on the software?
The thing is: I can do it, there is no problem in that but as I want the best quality I want to know exactly what to do. Like if I open a sequence of 720p and 30 fps and then import footages at 720p and 60fps is it gonna turn it into 30 fps?
Other question: If my footage is a 720p, what is gonna happen when I export it at 1080? I'm gonna loose some quality right??
    thanks

Other question: If my footage is a 720p, what is gonna happen when I export it at 1080? I'm gonna loose some quality right??
Some is an understatement. Better downscale 1080 to 720. Always much better than upscaling. As to the framerate, with some 30P and some 60P, you will be better off with 30P altogether.

  • How do I encode DNxHD at 1080p/59? seems like ONLY 1080i/59 supported...help

Help; Avid DNxHD 145 Codec appears to only have 1080i/59.94 - my original footage is 1080p/59.94.

    any Suggestions.

it looks like Shane P is using Premiere Pro CC. DNxHD is bundled with CC.
Yes, I am using PP CC and AME CC on Win 7 Pro 64.
@pointbob, sorry I didn't think to ask which version of PP/AME you are running as it does make a difference. As Averdahl said only the CC version of AME has DNxHD bundled in it. I am able to transcode my native AVCHD 59.94 media to DNxHD 59.94 smoothly with no issues at all either going directly through AME or going through PL>AME.
The only thing I don't like is the very large file sizes it produces compared to the native AVHD.

  • How to put Blu Ray Dvds to Kindle Fire HD

I’d like to transfer my Blu Ray Dvds to my Kindle Fire HD. However, while I have had no problems
with the original disks, the files play fine on my device, but everything I converted has the same error message: “video cannot be played”. What is the problem?

    First of all, check the transferred file location, you need put them to Gallery app directory and your tablet can find them and play well; and remember Android systems compatible Memory cards have a limit of 4GB per file because of the FAT32 file system, including Kindle Fire HD. 720p and 1080p movies today can be up to 10GB, and that's definitely will not transfer to the MircroSd card. So you need re-encode and downsize the file;
or if don’t wanna re-encode and lose video quality, use Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate to rip your disks again, but this time, use its Split feature. Don’t how-to?
Don’t worry, I find a guide page can help.

  • I need to downsize phots to publish on a website but they are too big . In help it says when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT. ?

I can't figure out how to downsize my photos for a website that won't take anything above 3MB my Photos are 4MB. Even when I send them in an email, they are too big to send more than 3 at a time and I don't know how to fix it! Help says that when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT?????

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum. Are you asking about iPhoto on your Mac?
In iPhoto on your Mac select Export and you will have the option to select a size for your photo.
In iPhoto for iOS this capability is not there. I use PhotoForege2 on my iPad to resize my photos to meet the requirements you describe.

  • Question about using HD LCD TV 1080p as external display

When i connect my MacBook to my new Samsung LCD HD TV, it set the screen resolution correctly to 1080p. The picture seems very nice, but when I move some text to the big screen the text is not so clear.
Why not? Am I doing something wrong or can I do something to make the picture (text) nicer?

Screen resolution, in general, is a hard thing to explain to individuals who don't work in graphics manipulation, and for good reason. It seems backwards at times. How is it that a 36" 1080p TV can appear blurrier than a 24" 720p TV? Why is 720p better than 1080i?
As far as using a 1080p display with my computer, I've settled on a 24" Samsung 1080p monitor/tv. I find it's a good balance between pricing, ppi, readability and other factors that one might consider important when looking at external display options.
Frankly, modern computer OS GUIs are not designed to be used on a display that is upwards of 8 or 12 feet away from you, no matter how big it is, or how high its resolution is. They take advantage of high resolution displays so that sitting close to a screen is less taxing on your sight over time. There are alternatives, obviously, like Media Center and Apple's media software, which are designed for using a computer on a television.

  • Adobe Acrobat PRO re- and downsizing a document as per millimeters?

I have a document with the following width and height dimensions: 258x358mm. When I, via the Crop option, tries to redefine those dimensions, I get the message that it is not possible to downsize the page. It seems I am allowed to upsize the document, but not downsize it. What I want to learn is how to downsize - as per millimeter, thus not as per percentage methods. The dimensions I want are 222x285mm and 230x295mm.
    Thanks for help!

    Thanks, Test Screen Name!
Trimming works very good. I could easily reduce the mm. But this is only for trimming, then. Problem here, is that sometimes you want to keep more of the proportions - if you understand what I am trying to say. Say, if I wanted even fewer mm, then I would end up trimming the very information. Also, sometimes one would like to reduce, yes, but at the same time keep some amount of empty margins.
I made use of the Print function, thus defining the mm myself. But there I encountered the problem of not being allowed to define the width outside of 76.2 - 215.9 mm, thus not allowing me to use the dimensions I wanted, namely W 222 and 230mm. Do you have any tricks for solving this?
In any case, I thank you for helping me out. I have learned something new and valuable today!
    R.
