How to dub and preserve CC on DVCPro 50?

I have a master DVCPro 50 tape with close captioning, I also have a DVCPro 50 deck. I need to make a DVCPro 50 copy of the master tape, but the copy must also have close captioning intact. I have access to a Blackmagic (Decklink i think (rhymes!)) and an Aja IoLA. And of course normal Firewire . What capture options should I be using? How should I be laying it back to tape?

close captioned information?
If it's Line 21, no. FireWire-transportable formats don't carry the data lines.
If it's VAUX, yes. If your program was recorded properly to the deck with CC, then it should be in the VAUX data and should pass from deck to deck and through a capture and output just fine. Again: as long as there is no processing dine while it's in the computer.
I would think the simplest thing to do at this point would be to just try it. Capture via FireWire. Play back through FW and the deck to the TV. Turn captions on on the TV.
If you don't see them then try recording and then playing back. It's possible your deck won't pass them in real time.
My hands-on experience with this is with DV25, but my fairly educated understanding is that it works the same in DV50.

File resolution, how to crop and preserve clarity?

Hello, I record video off my PC using FRAPS, copy it to my mac, and cut out the clips I want using Quicktime pro 7. The problem I run into is when I import them into FCE they are resized improperly and become fuzzy. I realize FCE is a "Fixed Resolution App" (Glares at Apple). How do I import the video keeping the same resolution, but only cropping the video. I know I lose some quality converting from AVI to MOV but that is nowhere near the loss of quality once it is resized by imovie/FCE.
it should also be noted, the LCD I use is native 1280x1024, I record in "50%" mode, hence the 640x512 output from FRAPS. So simply adjusting my monitor to 1440x960 won't work. Also I realize I can do all my editing/compiling in QT7, but seriously, that's not a solution

The standard definition dimensions of video are 720x480 using CC601 pixels with an aspect ratio of 0.9. How would you like your video to fit into that frame? It can either scale down and you'll have pillarboxing, or it can scale up and crop. Scaling up is never a good solution. Furthermore, I'm guessing you're talking about screen captures, which probably are in resolutions much higher than can be compressed well into a highly compressed format like DV.

Though it looksl like the HML gallery shows the original file name in the web page, it looks like Adobe Lightroom modified each photo's file name by changing the - (hyphen) to an underscore (_)

InDesign's interactive PDF support is a small subset of what you can do in Acrobat Profesional.
I think you probably want to create a button (or change an existing button) in Acrobat Pro that causes Acrobat to close the document -- that should be analagous to "exitting the CD." I assume your autorun file is opening the PDF in Adobe Reader? You have not included it and are not specific, so it is tough to say.
I believe in Acrobat Javascript you can close the document with this.closeDoc(). You'll probaly need to ask on the Acrobat forums (possiby Acrobat Scripting) for more detail.

The iPhone from Dubai will never be able to have FaceTime. The iPhone country of origin (serial no. and imei no.) is the culprit. The government there has banned FaceTime.

For your contacts go to settings on your phone - mail contacts and calendars - scroll down to contacts and change display order to the one you want ( you can also change sort order, but ususally people prefer last name first and see if that is what you have).
For your yahoo emails go on your computer open outlook
In Outlook 2010, choose File > Accounts.
Click account settings and confirm the command by clicking "Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings."
Select account and click "Change."
Click "Advanced."
Click "More Settings."
Click the "Advanced" tab.
Enter "7" in the box to the right of "Remove from server after."
Click OK.
Close Account Settings.
If you have outlook 2007
In Outlook 2007, choose Tools > Account Settings.
Click the account you wish to edit and then click Change.
Click the "More Settings" button.
Select the Advanced tab located across the top of the window.
Select the "Leave a copy of messages on the server" option.
Select the "Remove from server after" option.
Enter 7 in the box to the right of "Remove from server after."
Click OK.
Close Account Settings.

How to import photos from Mail to iPhoto and preserve the date created?

I have several photos sent to me via email attachments in Mail which I want to "add to iphoto." When I do this, the original date of the photo changes to "today's date."
When I drag the photo to the desk top, the file (photo) properties change and the date changes to "today's date."
Is there a way to import photos and preserve the original date the photo was taken? For example, if my family finally got around to sending me photos from 4th of July, I know the date is 7/4/2012, not today's date, 10/9/2012.
I want to avoid the time/work of doing batch changes on countless photos I want to add to iphoto.

Using what you said, I ran some tests using photos taken with my digital camera in iPhoto. My photos show the following information in the "information" sidebar:
•type of camera
•Flash on
•Format size
•File size (MB)
•File type (jpeg)
•Frame "number"
•Month/day/year/hour/min/sec/AM-PM
Then I tried to email a photo to myself: I have tried: "share," "attach," "drag/drop" a photo into email and sent it to myself as a test. Once the photo arrives in my Mail inbox, I have tried various ways to add this "test" photo into iPhoto:
"Add to iphoto"
"drag into iphoto"
"export into iphoto"
Each time, iphoto created the photo with "today's date." In the past, I would get an alert: Photo already exists in iphoto, do you still want to import? Duplicate or Cancel
Can you elaborate on, "if the photo properties are present and correctly formatted then iPhoto uses them."
When I drag a photo to the desktop and double-click to preview the photo, the top of the preview window says:
P1009.jpg -- locked (gray lettering of the word "locked")
Is there a setting I need to change to "unlock" the properties of my photos?*

PDF Printing and preserving Control Breaks

I'm testing PDF printing with apache FOP. it works, but I've searched on here and am not finding a solution to preserve control breaks. Is there an easy way to set this up? I'm trying to replace reports with Apex, and one of my developer. we wrote these custom reports, that work very nicely, but are tedious... user has ability to control break, etc. I can achieve all this from interactive reports, but printing is the problem.
My thought if I can do this, is to generate the report on a printer friendly page, and just print from there.
any other suggestions?

I have not found a way to change the margins or other column settings. So the reports will have minimal utility for our users, who are auditors and who like to save their analyses.
I welcom help on how to use and override the Print Attributes > Page Attributes settings for PDF? Paper Size , Orientation, and width/height seem to work, but have no impact on the actual body printing. E.g. setting tabloid landscape 17x11 " works, but the report is still the same size as with letter landscape 11x8.5 setting. There's no way to set the margin.
2. Example of my best work around. Here, the user prints from browser - Google Chrome - to PDF. I use free Windows PDF utility Bullzip PDF Printer. The same look and feel goes to a physical paper printer.

Chrome however does not now have the option to print the background colors, so you can't get your tabs and other graphic elements to look identical to on-screen pages. You have to adjust the row count on the Apex page so all rows are displayed - if you do, the browser will print multiple pages until all rows have been put into the pdf. Another advantage for the users is that they can choose to display all the filter and grouping selections on screen and capture them in the PDF output, similar to what we do in one of our Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports applications.
Other browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox) seem not to be able to print all the rows.

I now have iTunes ver 11.0.4.4 under Windows 7. I lost all iTunes stuff when updating to Windows 7. I have loaded thousands amd thousands of music files from backup disks, but there are many duplicates. I am attemping to re-establish my old library. I used to be able to remove duplicates quickly with the old iTunes. The new iTunes doesn't seem to offer the same service. Is there any way to remove duplicates quickly, or must I do it one by one?

When deduping use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

You can definitely have three different data sources (DEV, QA, Prod) leveraged by your single environment. This would be just for reporting data sources though, and not the CMS database itself.
Reports would be associated with the different data sources depending on the stage of development, and would be accordingly stored in one of three folder trees set up in your single environment. Then access to the trees would be controlled by security set in the CMC.
Development would take place in the /DEV folder tree, and it would then be moved to the /QA tree for testing, and ultimately the production tree for consumption. Just keep in mind that when you are updating content in the different trees (vs. creating new content) that you will need to overwrite existing content in the trees if you wish to preserve the instance history and CUID (which may be referenced in openDocument links, for example).

Newbie about export and preserve changed jpeg/raw

Hi all,
It might be a stupid question, but I have not been able to find any answers to it via google or in this community ;-)
I am using a trial version of Aperture and like it very much and would like to use it to organize and manage my photos.
When I have processed some photos I would like to export these results/versions (e.g. high quality jpeg) in order to use/see them in other viewers and preserve the changes made for the future when (in many many years) Aperture might not be arround any more (theortically ;-).
But how is the workflow then getting the results/exported version back into Aperture? As I would love to have Aperture to manage it all but at the same time I am paranoid and need a phyical/final version of my work (not a master file and some corrections).
Am I missing something here? Or can't I get both?
Perhaps the answer is to start shooting raw only and then the process is more straight forward?

I think you want to shoot RAW, make your adjustments, export and archive the high quality jpegs.
You don't need to then import the jpegs back into Aperture. The RAW files and the adjustments you made are all already in Aperture.
If, the reason you're exporting your adjusted images is to perserve them for a time when Aperture may no longer exists, then I don't really see why you would bring them back into Aperture. If Aperture exists forever, you have your adjustments perseved in the library. If Aperture is gone, you have your adjusted jpegs in your archive, right?
Of course, always backup your library if you're running a managed library, and your library and images if you're running a referenced library.
Let me know if I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to accomplish.

I purchased a retail version of Win7 Professional.
I want to upgrade a retail version of Win7 Home Premium to Win7 Professional and be able to install Home Premium on another PC. I want to avoid a hard drive reformat during the upgrade and preserve the Home Premium key product key for activation on another
computer. I'm willing to make a phone call to activate Home Premium on the second computer.
Will this upgrade process work?
The current Win7 HP install is clean. It was performed last week.

Yes, we can use Windows Anytime Upgrade to upgrade the system.
The retail key can be used for clean install and upgrade.
Here is the steps regarding how to open WAU:
Start>type anytime upgrade in the search box>click
Window Anytime Upgrade>follow the instructions on each page.

You can add Annotations to the video. Click on the video in the video well, Inspector window, Additional Information tab:
