the simplest way would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from the source to the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
you could also _*Home Sharing*_ to transfer the content via your network.

So I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. Before that though, I had a windows laptop and an iPad mini. The iPad mini was synced to the windows laptop, which broke. I then set up an iTunes account for my Mac with the same apple ID as I'd previously used, and made purchases on the iTunes Store on my Mac.
Basically, I am now stuck with my songs which I had on my iPad before purchasing the Mac which I cannot get onto my Mac and I am stuck with purchases on my MacBook which I cannot transfer to my iPad. I have not synced my iPad to the library yet, although I have authorised the MacBook. Some of the songs on my iPad were not purchased on the iTunes Store either, but I do not want to lose them.
Any ideas on how to sync my iPad with my MacBook without losing anything?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss. To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. How to export my mailboxes from Imac to new Macbook Pro?

I am getting a new Macbook Pro 13" today (not sure if it will ship with Snow Leopard). How can I just move all of my mailbox contents, and maybe bookmarks from Safari and other account information over from my Imac Time Machine backup. A few months ago I used my Time Machine from the Imac to move everything over to the new portable, including PHotos and all documents, etc. Is there a way of picking and choosing during setup assistance just a few things.
The other option is whether I can simply export the contents of my mailbox into a file--two accounts--over to the new computer? Can I do the same with the contents of Iphoto and ITunes?

You can connect the two computers with a FireWire cable and use Target Disk Mode to copy from one machine to the other.

Exporting is always done in the order presented in the filmstrip. But that doesn't really matter, since what you really need is a filenaming scheme that orders things the way you want (I assume).
I've never been happier since adopting a filenaming scheme that assures alphabetical == chronological, basically:
{date}{photographer's-initials}{time}{camera's-initials}{image-number}.{ext}
Thus chronlogical by date, then grouped by photographer, then by time (to the second), distinguished by camera code and image number (ensures subsecond uniqueness, as well as indicating camera used, and original image number on card).
Exported files are generally named the same as source files, sometimes with some other {note} appended...

Thanks, I'll give that a try. The only thing I have to use as a thumb drive is an old iPod that's only a half a gig in size. I hope that's big enough!

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

It isn't a matter of the title showing up later, or my having accidentally added the same song twice (say, from different sources or compilations). This is a problem with Apple I think because it just began a month ago and I changed no settings, nor did I do anything else. It just began to happen out of the blue. Anyone know about this?

Right click on a track from the album and click Show in Windows Explorer. Select the tracks you want in your edited album and press CTRL+C to copy. Browse to <Media Folder>\Automatically Add to iTunes and press CTRL+V to paste. Sort the Songs view on Date Added descending (click the small bliack triangle to flip the order if needed) then select the new copies of the tracks, press CTRL+I to Get Info. and change the album title (e.g. add [Edit] to it) or the two sets of tracks will be listed as one big album with duplicate tracks. Once you have it as a separate album you can adjust start and end times of songs if needed.

If you turn on the Kind column your purchases will read Purchased AAC audio file or Protected AAC audio file.

just cmd+space and search 1.mp3...
Choose "Show all in finder" ...
Choose all of duplicated mp3 items...
Delete them.
If there is more than one or two duplicate, go ahead.. search for 2.mp3 or 3.mp3... choose duplicated items.. delete them..

you aren't missing this. Show duplicates is NOT a tool to allow to simply select all and hit deleted. It is showing you the duplicates, one beside the other, to allow you to discriminate two songs having the same name but that may not be duplicate. For exemple, they may be two different version of a same song and that you want to keep them. For this reason, automated process are somehow risky to loose also song that you want to keep.

Personnally, I would still discriminate duplicated songs manually by reviewing the list of "show duplicate" to avoid deletion of song I wish to keep. I also have a quite large library and found many songs having the same name and not being duplicates.
