How to dynamically add text (i.e. subclip 'metadata') to an ImageElement
In short what I would like to achieve:
Put several VideoElements in a SerialElement, but prepend each video with an ImageElement to which text is added (text as in 'metadata' of the subclip being displayed). This as an announcement of what is coming up next (by displaying that image for 2 seconds or so).
This image should be created dynamically, as the video's (in fact subclips) aren't defined upfront (and thus the images can not be defined upfront).
I was wondering if it is possible to manipulate an ImageElement (combining text and images into a new image, or adding text to an existing image), and provide an ImageElement with such a dynamically created image? I couldn't find anything useful around the Graphics drawing object, like drawText or something. And besides that it seems ImageElements can only be created via an ImageLoader and a URL (and not via an image that is available as embedded asset).
I hope my question is clear enough and someone has some ideas how to implement this (or if it is possible at all with OSMF).
Thanx in advance.

Thanks for your extensive reply.
I had a look at the options you suggested.
With the captioning you define a file with all the captions defined. But as I only wat to display some descriptive text prepended to each videoElement in a SerialElement, captioning did not fit my needs.
But with your prototype using a TextElement as MediaElement did fit, almost exactly.
With this function I define what text to display and for how long. It creates a ParallelElement, and puts in a background image, and 'overlays' the text I enter.
private function showText(text:String, duration:int):void {
var parallelElement:ParallelElement = new ParallelElement();
var image:ImageElement = new ImageElement(new ImageLoader(), new URLResource(new URL(BACKGROUND_IMAGE)));
parallelElement.addChild(new TemporalProxyElement(duration, image));
var textElement:TextElement = new TextElement(text)
parallelElement.addChild(new TemporalProxyElement(duration, textElement));
serialElement.addChild(parallelElement);
applyAdjacentLayout(parallelElement, image, textElement);
The TextElement is taken from your example (including the TextViewTrait). In the TextElement the format and styling can be defined. With the applyAdjacentLayout function (as used in the ExamplePlayer - 'Parallel Composition (Adjacent)') I make sure the placement is as I want.
So now I can dynamically display some descriptive text about a subclip before displaying that specific subclip.
Thnx!

How do I add text to an image?
I have purchased a template and imported it to Photoshop. I then sliced the template into sections, saved it for web and opened the index file in dreamweaver. My questions is, how do I add text to the images? I want to add the text content, within the boxes on the template, but because they are exported as images from Photshop I can't seem to do it...So let's say there is a box in the middle of the template and I want it to say, Services at the top and below that have a little information about the services offered with a "read more" button at the bottom. I have exported the template out of photoshop with text added and with the boxes empty. I tried to add the text in dreamweaver but couldn't. When I export the sliced template out of photoshop with the text already included, it does show up in Dreamweaver, however it is not in html and I would like it to be for SEO purposes. Forgive me if this question is silly or already answered, I have looked everywhere and couldn't find the answer.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.Hi,
I prefer to use tables for that. For example (First of all you have to store this new file):
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>AddedText</title>
</head>
<body>
<table width="40%" border="4">
<tr>
<td>Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="center" valign="top"><div align="center"><img src="yourPicture.jpg" alt="image 01" width="127" height="33" /></div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text </td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>
Here I took a table with only one column, you can modify my choice.
There is so too a possibility to use a complete flow text around a picture. If you like that, please give me a shout.

How do i add text to my photos?
How do i add text to my photos - previously you could do this on iphoto
Many users find the excellent and highly-recommended BorderFX more than meets their needs.
A couple of things to note:
- "Photos" misleads us into an understanding of what we manipulate with our computers that differs from what our computers are programmed to manipulate. Within Aperture, you have Images (called, imho confusingly, also Versions and also Photos); outside of Aperture you have image-format files that you see listed in the Finder and use in other programs. BorderFX lets you overlay text and watermarks, and add borders, to Images in Aperture. When you do this, a new file is created and automatically imported (it becomes a new Original). You can also export via BorderFX, in which case a file based on your Image and the changes you've set in BorderFX is saved to the location (outside of Aperture) that you specify.
- Adding text to an Image is a _graphics_ operation, and not a _digital camera file_ operation: it is outside the remit of Aperture, which hews to being a photographer's non-destructive RAW digital camera file storage and development workspace. You use Aperture to store, organize, and develop (make as good as possible for a particular use) digital camera files. When you need a new graphics file, you (generally) export your Image from Aperture, and create new graphics files using a graphics program (e.g.: Photoshop, Pixelmator, GIMP, etc.). Graphics programs are built from the ground up as compositors. Aperture does almost no compositing. BorderFX is a slick, purpose-driven compositing plug-in. -

How do I add text to individual slides in a slideshow in order to make a caption on each slide?
It will depend on the theme you are using for the slide show.
For some themes you can add custom text or metadata to the slide as captions, for example the "Classic" theme. Use the "Selected Slides" tab and enable "Text". -

How can i add text to photo in iphoto?
How can I add text to photo in iphoto without having lion or mtn lion?
You can't add text to a Photo in iPhoto. You need an external editor for that:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Pixelmator ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto. -

How do I add text boxes that people can edit font type, size, and color in Adobe Reader
How do I add text boxes that people can edit font type, size, and color in Adobe Reader? I am using Acrobat Pro XI.
It is possible. Add your text fields and in their Properties set them to have Rich Text Contents (under Options). This will allow the users to specify all kinds of formatting settings for those fields (by pressing Ctrl+E and using the Properties bar).

How can I add text to a field based on XML tagging?
I'm fairly new to using XML in InDesign layouts, and I'm currently facing an issue getting a bunch of content from database records formatted in a print document (text that flows over dozens of pages). I've figured out how to create an InDesign template, but I need to be able to add text between some of the XML elements in two different scenarios:
1. Add text or line breaks before or after an XML element that always appears in the document. For example: Adding "Description:" before the XML-tagged description content, or adding a return after the last element in a list.
2. Add text before or after an XML element only if it appears in the document. For example: If there's a second phone number, tagged "Phone2" in the XML, then I want " or " to appear before it in the layout. Otherwise there's just one phone number and it continues on to the next piece of content.
I have tried inserting this text into the InDesign template, but keeping them means having to also keep parts of the template that aren't used on every import--so I have a bunch of "or Phone2" bits of text to find and replace afterward. That's OK, but I'd like a more elegant solution that doesn't leave potential mistakes in my layout.
In my preliminary research so far, it looks like an XSLT or scripting might be able to handle this, but I don't know where to start. Can someone tell me if what I'm looking for is possible and suggest the best way to do it? I'm going to have to trial-and-error a solution for this myself.

What you seem to be referring to is Watermarking your photos. I offer a series of free PDF's on this issue including how to create watermarks in Pixelmator and add them to Aperture so you can export your images with a protective watermark.
