How to dynamically load a Base64 string to an image on the Crystal Report?

I have a signature stored in my SQL Server 2008 DB as a Base64 encoded string. It is in a datatype of nvarchar(MAX), field named ="signature_stream"
I am using Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008.a XML field definition file to load the data to the report.  In that file [signature_stream] is a xs:string type.  This is a asp.net application so ideally I would like not to have to save the image to disk before showing it.
I need to be able to take [signature_stream] and load it onto my report from server side code.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Jimmy,
CR is a 32 bit app so it won't be able to handle an image in x64 format unless you find a way to convert it to x86 type.
The MS SQL client may be able to do this for you though. Install the SQL Native 10 client from the MS SQL Tools menu options and then convert/update the report and DSN to use the SQLNCLI10.dll as the client dll.
See if you can add that field to the report, if that works then you can add any image to the report and set the image formula to that database field using the Formula field:
click the X-2 button for graphic location and select the field with the image in it.
Now preview, if the Client converts 64 to 32 bit then this should work for you, if not then only option is as Dell pointed out and save the image to the HD in BMP or JPG format and then you can use the same Graphic Location formula to point to the folder and file location.
To update it in code it would look like this in the KBase article:
2021348 - Modifying a Picture object in .NET ignores Object.Height and Object.Width when setting Condition Formula Can Grow is enabled
Symptom
When modifying an existing picture object and using a formula to update the image file location and name using the .Modify() method the image is not sizing accordingly.
Environment
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio
VS 2010
VS 2012
VS 2013
Resolution
You can do this all dynamically and creatively as you wish but the basics to updating the image is as follows:
CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PictureObject boPictureObject = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PictureObject(); ;
string strNewImageFilename = "D:\\Atest\\DSC_2655.jpg";
foreach (CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.ReportObject oReportObject in objects)
    if (oReportObject.Kind == CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.CrReportObjectKindEnum.crReportObjectKindPicture)
        var oPlaceholderPicture = oReportObject as CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PictureObject;
        if (oPlaceholderPicture != null)
                // clone the original object so it can be modified
                var oNewPicture = (CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PictureObject)oPlaceholderPicture.Clone(true);
                var cf = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.ConditionFormula();
                PicFileLocationFormula.Text = "\"" + strNewImageFilename + "\"";
                oNewPicture.Format.EnableCanGrow = false;
                oNewPicture.GraphicLocationFormula = PicFileLocationFormula;
                oNewPicture.Width = 4320;  // 3 inches
                oNewPicture.Height = 1440;  // 1 inch
                rptClientDoc.ReportDefController.ReportObjectController.Modify( oPlaceholderPicture, oNewPicture );
                // Call the Modify again to update the CanGrow flag to false - default is set to True
                oNewPicture.Format.EnableCanGrow = false;
                rptClientDoc.ReportDefController.ReportObjectController.Modify(oPlaceholderPicture, oNewPicture);
This issue has been tracked with ADAPT01727457 and scheduled for SP 11 ( possibly SP 10 )
In the mean time use the above work around

    How do I load windows 7 on a Mac Air using the super drive?

    You use Boot Camp to partition the SSD in the Air, download the Win 7 Support files from Apple (part of the boot camp process), save them to a USB thumb drive, have the USB superdrive connect to the Air with the Win 7 install DVD in the drive. Once partitioned the system will reboot and start the Win 7 install.

  • How to set printersettings for the crystal report viewer in SAP BI dynamically

    Hello
    I have set the URL method for my crystal report and with parameter passing as shown below, it was displaying the crystal report viewer by connecting to the SAP BI 4.0 server with this method.
    http://cr:port/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sDocName=CRLabelParam&sType=rpt&lsSnPrinted=0&lsSsTestProjectNr=1
    This URL will be called from Web application by different users, i would like to set the printer settings differently for different users for this crystal report viewer how shall i need to set the printer options?
    shall i need to set the printer settings programatically for each user. Please advise me how do i need to proceed.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rajeswari.

    There are no BI / CR APIs that would do this for you. The way I see it, you'll have to have your own print button and populate it with the correct printer information for each user as they request the report. Of course, alternatively, use the viewer printer button and get the users to choose the correct printer.

  • How to create a report with data using the Crystal Reports for Java SDK

    Hi,
    How do I create a report with data that can be displayed via the Crystal Report for Java SDK and the Viewers API?
    I am writing my own report designer, and would like to use the Crystal Runtime Engine to display my report in DHTML, PDF, and Excel formats.  I can create my own report through the following code snippet:
    ReportClientDocument boReportClientDocument = new ReportClientDocument();
    boReportClientDocument.newDocument();
    However, I cannot find a way to add data elements to the report without specifying an RPT file.  Is this possible?  I seems like it is since the Eclipse Plug In allows you to specify your database parameters when creating an RPT file.
    is there a way to do this through these packages?
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.data

    Am I forced to create a RPT file for the different table and column structures I have?
    Thank you in advance for any insights.

    Hi Rameez,
    After working through the example code some more, and doing some more research, I remain unable to populate a report with my own data and view the report in a browser.  I realize this is a long post, but there are multiple errors I am receiving, and these are the seemingly essential ones that I am hitting.

  • How do you set the Crystal Report Viewer Printer to Duplex

    Using the code below I can print in duplex mode, but this does not let me view a report before printing
    How do I set the Printer in the Viewer Control Bar of the Crystal Report Viewer to Duplex Printing programmatically rather than having to manually select Duplex through the preferences option?

    Just to get the terminology correct. I believe you are meaning the Group Tree(?).
    Vb Code:
    CrystalActiveXReportViewer1.DisplayGroupTree = False.
    Also, do consult the developer help file;

  • How do I print as a "reverse or mirror image" on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 model # N911a

    How do I  print as a "reverse or mirror image" on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 model # N911a

    I have spent hours figuring out how to print a t-shirt transfer since my new HP printer doesn't seem to allow for mirror image printing (yet my old HP printer easily let me select this feature).   Here's what worked for me, using Word 2010:
    Create the text and insert any images  into the document as you normally would.
    Go to Insert / WordArt and chose a style of lettering (I don’t think it matters what you choose since you will be cutting and pasting the data from 1 above).   A text box will appear and a new "double-decker" tab will appear at the right (Drawing Tools on top and Format below).
    Copy what you created in step 1 and paste it into the text box.
    Click on the Format tab (the cursor must be inside the text box for the Format tab to be visible).
    Choose Text Effects / 3-D Options and then 3-D Rotation Options.  A dialogue box will open.  For the X value, enter 180.  Do not enter anything for the other values.  Your image should have rotated to mirror image.
    Click Close and save your document.
    You should now be able to print your document as usual.
    Good luck!

    Here's a routine that also searches for subreports to set the log on info. Simply remove that aprt to set the main report logon info:
    IDatabaseTablePtr pTable;
    //get first table
    pTable = m_Report->Database->Tables->GetItem(1) ;
    long lTableCount = m_Report->Database->Tables->Count;
    for( long lTable=1; lTable<=lTableCount; lTable++ )
         pTable = m_Report->Database->Tables->GetItem(lTable);
         pTable->ConnectionProperties->DeleteAll();
         pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("DSN", "Name of your DSN");
         pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("Database", "Demo");
         pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("Password", "sa");
         pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("User ID", "1Oem2000");
    // Log on the tables of the subreports.
    long lSectionCount = m_Report->Sections->Count;
    for( long lSection=1; lSection<=lSectionCount; lSection++ )
         ISectionPtr pSection = m_Report->Sections->Item[lSection];
         long lSubreportCount = pSection->ReportObjects->Count;
         for( long lSubreport=1; lSubreport<=lSubreportCount; lSubreport++ )
              IReportObjectPtr pSubreportObject = pSection->ReportObjects->Item[lSubreport];
              CRObjectKind crObjectKind;
              pSubreportObject->get_Kind(&crObjectKind);
              if( crObjectKind == crSubreportObject )
                   ISubreportObjectPtr SubReportPtr = pSubreportObject;
                   IReportPtr pSubReport = SubReportPtr->OpenSubreport();
                   long lTableCount = pSubReport->Database->Tables->Count;
                   for( long lTable=1; lTable<=lTableCount; lTable++ )
                        pTable = m_Report->Database->Tables->GetItem(lTable);
                        pTable->ConnectionProperties->DeleteAll();
                        //pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("DSN", "dwcb12003");
                        pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("Database", "CrystalEport_DB");
                        pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("Password", "sa");
                        pTable->ConnectionProperties->Add("User ID", "1Oem2000");
    If that doesn't work you need to tell us what is the error you are getting and paste in the code you are using.

    HI Srivatsa,
    You can make a wider report by creating virtual pages. Virtual pages are the extra pages to the right of the main page that get created to accommodate cross-tabs that are wider than a single page. By inserting a cross-tab in a report then suppressing it, you can create a report that is multiple pages wide.
    Insert and Suppress a Cross-Tab
    1. On the 'Insert' menu, click 'Cross-Tab'.
    2. In the Cross-Tab Expert, click any field and move it into the 'Columns' box, and click any field and move it into the 'Summarized Fields' box. Do not move any fields into the 'Rows' box.
    3. Click the 'Customize Style' tab and select the following check boxes:
    " Suppress Empty Rows
    " Suppress Empty Columns
    " Suppress Row Grand Totals
    " Suppress Column Grand Totals
    4. Click the 'OK' button and then insert the cross-tab into the Report Header section.
    5. On the 'Report' menu, click 'Format Sections'. Click 'Report Header' and select the 'Underlay Following Sections' check box.
    When you run the report you will not see the cross-tab, but you will be able to scroll to the right and see multiple virtual pages.
    ====================
    NOTES:
    " As there are no rows to the Cross-Tab, it does not carry on to Page 2 and the virtual pages do not appear past the first page.
    " To increase or decrease the number of virtual pages do one of the following:
    - Limit the number of records for the field in the 'Column' box of the 'Cross-Tab Expert' using the 'Select Expert'.
    - Change the width of the 'Column' field in the Cross-Tab by moving the edges of the field.

    How to Insert Fields on Virtual Pages
    You cannot drag-and-drop a field onto a virtual page, you can only do so on the main page. To get a field to appear on a virtual page:
    1. Insert the field on the main page.
    2. Click the 'Preview' tab.
    3. Drag the right edge of the field to the right, onto the virtual page.
    4. Drag the left edge of the field to the right, onto the virtual page.
    Hope this helps!!
    Regards,
    Shweta
