How to edit/alter a song's length?

Once in awhile I want to change the length of a certain song that's already in my iTunes archive(s). When I was a radio DJ spinning vinyl, I did it manually. How do I do it digitally with what's already on my iMac?

I took your question two ways.
1. You can shorten your music in iTunes as others have suggested by choosing Info (command-I) for that track and, under the Options tab, typing in a new beginning or end time (00:00.00).
You can do this with tracks on a CD as well. Either way, by re-importing that song into iTunes (in any format), iTunes will automatically start/stop the import at your new beginning/end points. I do this all the time to keep my AAC files at a minimum size (especially with CD tracks that have hidden songs).
You cannot make a track last longer by typing in a timeframe larger than the actual track's run time.
2. You can also edit a song's length in a third-party program. I edit a song's length by taking an AIFF version of the track (either re-imported from the CD or converted from the AAC/MP3) and, using Audacity (freeware from audacity.sourceforge.net), I will change the song's length. You can alter the song by slowing it down without changing pitch, slowing it down with pitch change, (and the same for speeding it up), and if you need to add silence at the beginning or end of the track for any reason, easy to do as well.
I use this technique to learn guitar parts for my favorite songs, by slowing down the tracks so they're manageable at first.

  • How to edit an imported song

I've imported an existing song/track off a CD and want to cut or stop the song half way through. The song is too long and I only need the intro, I'd like to edit the track by fading out 30 some seconds into a 3 minute song. Please help

From what I can tell, it sounds like you want to first cut then fade. Here's how to do that:
First choose the point that you want the end of the cue to be, and position the playhead to that spot. Actually, the spot should probably be a little after you want the end of your cue, just to be safe (it's fading out anyway, so it doesn't matter if you have a little extra).
With the region selected and the playhead positioned, choose Edit > Split (or command T). You should see the region now split into two.
Click somewhere else, outside of the regions, to deselect both.
Then, select the region on the right side of the split, the one you want to get rid of, and hit Delete. It should now be gone.
Then, under the Track menu, select Fade Out.
    ... and that should work.
If you want to tweak the fade out, like make it begin sooner or happen more gradually, choose show master track, and then move the points around on the volume automation (which is the actual fade) to suit your needs.

  • How to edit names of songs and albums without having to do that manually ?

For each song I have to manually enter the name of the album and artist.
    That is terrible.

If you have a whole bulk of songs (such as an entire album) that have the same information, you can select all of them with CTRL+A or APPLE+A and then edit the information for all of those at once.
This is useful if all of the songs you're editing have the same artist, album name, or cover art.

  • Zen Touch: How to edit multiple songs artists and genres at once with new firmwa

With the old firmware I was able to do that with Nomad Explorer. But with the V2 firmware, I cannot use the Nomad Explorer anymore, and Media Source Organizer only alows to edit one track at once. Zen Touch Explorer also does not allow me to do that.
I tried to use Windows Media Player 0 and it worked, but after I closed the program and started it again, all my edits at the Library were gone. If I edit the library and sync to my Zen Touch will it apply what I edited on the library or will it keep the original ID3 tag from the song? How to make the modification permanent to the MP3 ID3 tag on the PC?
I think creative should allow edition of multiple songs with Zen Touch Explorer on the same way Nomad Explorer used to do with firmware V.

I haven't seen a program which does batch editing for MTP devices. Real Player does allow you to edit the ID3 tags of songs on the player, but one at a time.
With most music programs when you change an ID tag on your computer it doesn't update on the player, so you would have to delete it from the player first then retransfer it, or find a program which edits the tags on the player such as Real Player.
The issue is most likely speed, it will take awhile to do batch editing on the player so that could be a reason why programs dont support it..

  • How do I tell what songs have altered Start/Stop times (Under "Get Info-Options") without opening every single song.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, I'll change the Start/Stop times of my songs, and I'll forget which ones I've done this to. For me, this can be a hassle, due to the number of songs I have, and the actual amount I listen to my iPod. I'll admit that it's my fault, that when I'm making a ringtone or simply shortening a song temporarily, I'll almost definitely forget to change that shortened time back after I'm done. But that moment when you're listening to a song and it abruptly ends, especially in a place I don't have access to iTunes (and in that situation I usually forget before I get home, exacerbating the problem even further), it can be the most annoying thing ever for me. I don't want to deal with it any longer, though, so here's my question:
How can I view which songs have altered Start/Stop times, without needing to view the Info for each individual song? I can't select all songs and then select "Get Info", because if I do that it won't even show the Option. The only reason I'm here is because I tried to figure it out myself, for weeks on end, and have returned no valid options for solution. So can someone please help me?

Customize the Finder window toolbar, adding the Path icon to it. Select an item and click on the Path icon or, as you already know, add path to the window. There's also copypath.app available via the App Store.

    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
    Step 1: Load files
First copy the MOD file from your video camera to your hard drive, then download, install and run MOD Converter, click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and load the MOD/TOD video files you want to convert to the program.
    Step 2: Output Setting
In the bottom of the main interface, select an output format supported by Windows Movie Maker for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
    Step 3: Start convert
Click "Start" button on right bottom of the main interface, you are allowed to start conversion.
Step 4: Import converted video to Windows Movie Maker
Click on "File". Then click on "Import". A window will appear. In the window, navigate to the video clip you converted just now. Then double click on the file. You'll see the icon for the file in your Windows Movie Maker "Collections".
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Step 1: Add transitions and special effects
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click View video transitions.
Preview transitions by double-clicking them and watching the Preview Monitor. Once you've found a transition you like, drag it from the Video Transitions pane, under Edit Movie pane to the box between two of your clips. This inserts the transition between the two clips.
Step 2: Add titles and credits
If you want to add a title before, after, or on top of a clip, click the clip on the storyboard or timeline.
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click Make titles or credits.
    Step 3: Add Music
In the Movie Tasks pane in Movie Maker, under Capture Video, click Import audio or music.
In the Import File dialog box, click the name of the song you want to use in the background. Then click Import. This adds your song to your collection but does not add it to your video. Drag the song from the collection to the video clip where you want the music to start playing.
    Step 4: Add narration
If you have a desktop computer, connect a microphone. Microphones are available from most electronics stores. If you have a portable computer, you can use the built-in microphone. However, you will get a better-quality recording if you connect an external microphone. In Movie Maker, click the Tools menu, and then click Narrate Timeline. On the timeline, click the clip you want to narrate. You can narrate clips one at a time, or you can narrate the entire movie all at once. If you narrate individual clips, you can rearrange them later and keep your narration synchronized. If the narration is too loud or too soft in comparison to the movie, right-click the narration on your timeline, and then click Volume.
Step 5: To save your movie to your computer
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer.
The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer.
Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. Now you can watch your videos anytime by opening your My Videos folder and double-clicking your movie.
Part 3: How to upload my video to YouTube
A video file should meet the following requirements so that it can be uploaded to YouTube site.
    1. In an acceptable format: WMV, MPEG4, MOV, AVI and MPEG.
    2. Video length is shorter 10 minutes.
    3. File size is smaller than 1GB.
Step 1: Sign up a YouTube account or Gmail account, then click the Upload button on any YouTube web page. See the figure below:
Step 2: Type in the information of your video file, including Title, Description, Category and tags. To increase the chances that your video can be easily found, you should put as much information as possible.
Step 3: Set this video to be public or private.
Step 4: Click the "Upload a video" button. When you see the next window, click the "Browse" button to select the video file you want to upload. Then click the "Upload Video" button to upload it. After the upload is finished, you will see the completion page. See the figure below:
Step 5: Click "My Videos" and you will see the video.
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
MOD is the video file type used on many digital camcorders, such as the JVC Everio, the Canon FS100 and the Panasonic D-Snap SD-card camcorders. Accompanying the MOD video file, there exists MOI file that stands for the index file for MOD.
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?

Picture files:.jpeg, .jpg, .jpe, .png, .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif,.tif, .tiff, and .wmf
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats. The video files below are all accepted by YouTube. Some video formats work best and are most compatible with certain computers, software or devices. Windows Media Video (.WMV)
    .3GP (cell phones)

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

  • How do I use a song in my iTunes library to record with in garage band on my iPhone?

How do I use a song in my iTunes library to record with in garage band on my iPhone? Like music from my library I want to use invGarageBand to record over.

    Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
    Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
