How to edit .CR2 files as RAW

Today I decided I would try to use Lightroom to edit my latest photo shoot instead of Aperture just to test it out. If I imported all of my pictures as .CR2 files, are the photos I'm editing the RAW photos or the JPG photos? I do all of my shoots in RAW+JPG, and I don't know which files I'm editing in LR. In Aperture it's easy to tell because the RAW and JPG files show up separate but this isn't the case in LR. If I go into "Metadata" for the photos it lists the file name as "IMG_xxxx.CR2," but it also lists "JPG" under "Sidecar Files." I don't know if that means I'm editing the JPG or if that's just telling me that the JPG exists in the CR2 file.
Thanks in advance!

The file extension listed in Loup and on the thumbnails shows your file-type.  CR2 is raw, JPG is not.  An easy way to tell what file type you’re editing is to look at the White Balance settings.  If they are absolute temperature from 2600-ish to 50000-ish, then the picture is raw format, but if you see relative WB adjustments, +/- 100, then the file is non-raw.
There is a setting that allows you to separate raws from jpgs when you import.  Keeping them together, which is what your settings are at the moment, allows you to move and delete the pair of files as a unit—which is what the sidecar status means, but you cannot get to the JPG in LR.
If you separate your raws and jpgs during import then you will be able to see and manipulate each individually.
If you never edit your JPGs in LR but want to keep them for purposes outside of LR then not treating them separately is easiest.
If you want to edit your JPGs sometimes and your raws sometimes then separating them during import will allow that but you’ll have twice as many files to deal with in LR.

  • How to open CR2 files in photoshop elements 10

Who knows how to open CR2-files from a Canon Powershot S100 in Photoshop Elements 10?

    Hi,
The version of Camera Raw that you reported should support the S100 CR2 images.
If you load the editor, go to the File menu and select Open, then point to the file, are you saying that it displays the error message?
Have you tried opening the file with Canon's Zoombrowser?
Which operating system are you running on?

  • Why can't I edit .CR2 files in new preview anymore?

I just downloaded mountain lion and I can't edit my .CR2 picture files without duplicating them and turning them into a .tiff file.  I just want to rotate the picture to see what it would look like!

CR2 files are RAW Image Data files. You need a RAW image editing program to do anything to them and not resave them as JPGs or TIF files.
Preview is Not a RAW image editor.
Since you are saving your camera shots as RAW files you should already have a program like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Elements or Full PS, or some other RAW image editor. I bet your Camera came with one. Although it may be a Windows only program.
    EDIT:
    I see you have Lightroom
Then Stop viewing them in Preview. Use Lightroom. It is a Image, Raw and otherwise, Cataloging, Viewing and editing program.

  • How to edit a file

Ok I probably realise that I've missed something in the literature on installing arch somewhere along the way, but I've spent the last 3 hours trying to find how get past this stage to no avail.
I've managed to realise I have a dhcp connection.
    For DHCP IP
For this option, you need the dhcpcd package (already available on most installations). To make use of it, edit /etc/rc.conf like this:
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
but when i type "edit /etc/rc.conf" I get a colon
I presume I'm in some kind of editor, but I can't see what I'm supposed to change and what commands to use inside the editor.
    Any help gratefully received

bzzzz Arch is for competent Linux users - not knowing how to edit a file suggests that you do not fall into this category. If you wish to persevere and use Arch as a learning tool, then you need to be aware that you will be required to do most of the work yourself.

how to edit xml file particular value. and how to send xml file over ip address 192.168.2.10 device using ftp through Ethernet

    Hello
For using FTP function in LabVIEW, I recommend you to check this document: FTP Basics
Also, take a look at FTP Browser.vi, which is available at the Example Finder.
To edit a XML file, try to use VIs in XML palette. Maybe Write to XML.vi helps you.
Post your current VI if possible.

  • How to edit *.folio files in Folio builder

    Hi,
I have list of .folio files and I want to edit those files and copy the text from the .folio fiile.
Can any tell me how to edit .folio files.
Is it possible to edit the .folio files in Folio panel. Or if any other application can able to open the .folio files, please guide me on this.
    Thanks,
    Krish

You could, but you won't get what you want.
The .folio file simply contains flattened images/pdfs of the page. So thus, you can't copy the text as though it's XML or part of some sort of word document. I suppose you might be able to try to copy and paste the text off of the PDF, if it's a PDF folio. But.. yick.
From folio builder, preview the folio on your machine using the desktop Content Ciewer. (Or Export it via Folio Producer after publishing it privately.)
    On your mac, then navigate to \Users\{username}\Library\Application Support\com.adobe.dmp.contentviewer\Local Store\FolioCache\{Folio Name}\{Article Name}\StackResources.
This should get you to the PDF files for each article.

  • Why have my edited CR2 files disappeared from Bridge?

When I edit my CR2 files in Cam Raw I pull many in at once and do my adjustments.  Then I click done and they all go back to Bridge and they show the edited version as adjusted CR2 files.  Then I highlight them and pull them into the export panel for resizing into small jpegs for my facebook page.  That has all changed this week and I have no idea how or why!!!!!!!!!!  Now when I adjust and click done the edited version does not show in bridge and when I use the export panel the unedited version is resized.  I have looked in every preference file and tried everything to get the edited version to show with no luck.  WHY would this be changed???  Is it something I need to reclick???
If someone actually sees this and answers please do me a favor and answer to my email: [email protected]  as I may not be able to find this post again.   This is my first time posting a question...

Hi Ann and welcom to the forum
The operating system you are using makes a difference, but with Windows they will be wherever you saved them to, so long as they saved OK.  Do they appear in the Photoshop > File > Open recent list?
You could try using Save As with a new document and making careful note of the file path, or just use the Windows seach facility from the Start button.
So what Operating System are you using, and have you found those files yet?

  • Lightroom won't ask how to edit a file when I select "edit in Photoshop CS6"

Yesterday Lightroom suddenly stopped asking how I want the file edited when I select "edit in Photoshop".  I opens the file directly in Photoshop without asking do I want to "edit with Lightroom changes", "edit a copy", or "edit original".
I've tried finding a setting to turn this on or off and found nothing.  I've tried shutting down.  I've even tried removing and reloading both Photoshop and Lightroom.  As far as I can tell it has defaulted to always opening with LR edits.
I'm using Lightroom 5.3 and Photoshop CS6 extended version 13.0. I ran updates on both after reloading yesterday.  I'm using the Mac versions of the software.
    Please help!

Is it possible that you've switched to using Raw (or DNG) files? There is a different process when using a Raw file versus using a rendered file such as Jpeg, Tiff, PSD....and it's only the latter file-types which will prompt the "Edit a copy, Edit original, etc" question. If the ACR levels are compatible (which they will be if your ACR plug-in for PS CS6 is up-to-date) then there will be NO question when using "Edit In...." on a Raw/DNG file, the file is rendered automatically in the background by Photoshop's ACR plug-in, when you then "Save" in PS the now-rendered file (Tiff or PSD, depending on your external editing preference setting) will appear back in Lightroom.

  • How to open *.CR2 files from new 60D ??

My Elements 7 will not open or recognize CR2 files from my new 60D.  Nor will it allow me to open CR2 files in another format.  I get error messages saying they are "the wrong type of file" or that a codec is missing.  It opens CR2 files from my two Rebels just fine.  I have downloaded the most recent codec (1.7.0) I can find from Canon to no avail.  I downloaded a trial version of Elements 9 - same problem.  Am I doing something incorrectly?
    Thanks, JackM

Well, after downloading - and purchasing - PE9, and downloading ACR 6.2, am still having the same problem; not recognizing the 60D CR2 files.  I have actually downloaded the 6.2 several times, with and without unzipping and extracting files, to no effect.  I will try calling Adobe Monday to see what the heck is going on.  This is extremely disappointing.
I may have to resort to use DPP for raw conversion, save as a TIFF, then open in PE for editing (this does work).  If that's my only option, I hope Adobe will refund my purchase price.  I'll try to keep you updated on what happens.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to import CR2 files with XMP files?

I'm using LR 1.4.1 on a Vista platform (with service pack 1). Last week my OS got corrupted and I had to reinstall everything.
So I'm trying to get my catalog back into LR but am having a lot of trouble. When I try to open LR using the latest backup of the catalog, it only opens certain files. All others show up as a grey preview.
Frustrated at this not working, I decided to just import the CR2 files from my external HD. Problem with this is that it's not bringing in ANY of the develop settings. So all of my edits are gone. This is going to cost me hours and hours and days of time to redo.
I have several clients waiting on orders, galleries, etc and I'm at my wit's end on how to fix all this! Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Annie

    > All others show up as a grey preview
Do you mean grey boxes as thumbnails or are images grey in loupe or develop module? If it's grey thumbnails, then it's because there are no preview files generated. Generating standard previews (or 1:1 previes) should fix it. If Develop module shows images as grey then I have no idea.

  • Question on converting edited CR2 files to DNG

Sorry, I cannot find a separate DNG forum. If this question is in the wrong place, please direct me to the correct forum.
I have lots of CR2 RAW files on my computer, and I am considering converting them to DNG. Many of these RAW files have already been edited and so have a separate XMP sidecar file containing the edits in the same folder. If I convert (using the Adobe DNG converter) these edited RAW files to DNG, what is converted? The CR2 RAW file alone, so that the converted DNG file is the same as the original unedited CR2 file? If so, what happens to the orphaned XMP file? Ignored?
My concern is that I will lose all RAW edits if I convert to DNG because the conversion process ignores the edits contained in the separate XMP file.
Can someone explain this to me? Thanks.

So what you're saying is that the DNG conversion de-mosaics the image?  I guess that's not surprising, since for compatibility with older Photoshop versions you'd have to deliver a more or less standardized format.
Kind of throws a big monkey wrench into claims that converting to DNG is functionally equivalent to opening raw images directly though...  I was experimenting with a "fall leaves" image last night and no matter what I tried with the 2010 process I was still able to get more detail in bright red leaves with the 2003 process.
I suppose that says if you want maximum flexibility and control you'd better buy the Photoshop upgrades and stick to opening raw camera files directly.  A variant on the "if you want to play you have to pay" adage.
    -Noel
P.S., Does the DNG converter read the centralized database as well as XMP files?  I personally prefer the database to the extra files.

  • In Bridge- Edited CR2 Files(JPG/TIF) Are Not Lining Up next to CR2 File

I had this problem once before and the forum got it fixed. I now cannot find that "discussion"
After editing a file in Bridge and saving in Bridge as a TIF or JPG, When it places the file back in Bridge it appears not next to the CR2 file but at the end of the folder. You may notice that all is correct in the images above the outlined problem.
    Thanks!

HELP!! Don't Know why images are blurred. They were sized for web and no bigger than allowed size.

Have received some advice but not the correct fix.
All machines in question work fine with these settings: View>Sort>Ascending Order> Manually
The machine in question worked like this until yesterday. Now it will only sort like this: View>Sort>Ascending Order>By Filename
This was not the fix I received initially on this forum years ago.

  • How to Edit PSD Files In Flash Template

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to flash and I am trying to create my first flash site using a template that I have downloaded. I can edit the first page fine, but when I click the "about us" or any other section, the standard template text, Which isn't even in english, appears. I believe that these are psd files, and I have tried to edit them, saved and replaced file on my computer, but still I get the same unchanged text on this site when I preview. Could someone please tell me how to edit and replace these files within the flash movie?

Instance names are the reference names that you give to the individual items on the stage. Only movieClip and button symbols can have instance names.
When you import a photoshop file to Flash you will get individual bitmap objects on the stage and in a folder in the movie's Library. You will need to select each item, one at a time, on the stage and convert each one to a symbol. When you make that conversion the name that you give to that new movieClip or button is the name that you will see in the Library.
When you select that new symbol on the stage, look at the Properties window. You will now see a space at the top where you can give that item an instance name. The instance name is what you will use in Actionscript to control that object on the stage.
When you look in the movie's Library, you will see the original bitmap and the symbol that you created that contains that bitmap.
    Does that help?
