How to edit etc/apache2/httpd.conf? Pica won't take my password.
I can navigate to the pico prompt in terminal ... but when it asks for pw, I try to type, the cursor just blinks, doesn't move, nothing.
But if there's another way to edit this file, I'll try.
Just want to uncomment the line about php5 module.
Thanks!!! xoxo

I like the tutorial, but yeah you are right, it's sudo, not pico that's not taking my pw. I can sudo pico or sudo vi, either way it asks me for my password but then the cursor doesn't respond to my typing.
I'm used to vi. You use control keys to navigate and make changes. It has two modes, command and insert. In command mode, to delete the '#' character, for example, move the cursor to '#' and type 'x' to delete it. Type 'i' to enter insert mode and add new text. Press 'esc' to go back to command mode.
There are numerous ways to save and quit. Usually you type 'ZZ' to save and quit. On some of these system files, their permissions are too restrictive for that. You have to do it the hard way. Type ':w!' to save. The 'w' is for "write" and the '!' is to force a write on a read-only. Then you can quit with "q!'.
I've never edited an administrative file with pico.
I can't even chmod to give myself rights to write to httpd.conf . "Operation not permitted."
Don't try that. Many tools will rightfully refuse to even launch if they detect that their administrative config files have been incorrectly modified.
internet chatter seems to suggest this 10.7.x is, like, super duper secure.  And I'm new to macs.  I'm logged in as admin, I have all the permissions I can find myself via finder ... but maybe there's a double-secret admin ...
There is, it is "sudo". Only an admin user has the ability to use sudo to gain root permissions.

  • HT204053 How do I override payment info. It won't take it VERY frustrated others I've talked to say they didn't have to do this step to set up apple ID

How do I override payment info. It won't take it anyway Very FRUSTRATING. Others I've talked to did not have to do this to activate apple ID.

The old rule of thumb was to keep 10-12 GB free. Any lower than that and you will start to have trouble. I was very close to that for a long time and never had any complaints. Now, Lion "encourages" 20% free space (on my newer 250 GB drive) so I try to keep it with more than 50 GB free.
Do you still have the original memory in that machine too? The metal plate you have to remove in the battery compartment also provides access to the RAM. Your machine will take 2 GB of RAM, possibly 3. You definitely want to max that out too.
Regardless, you definitely need a new hard drive. When Apple switched to PC components, they had to take a quality hit. These 2.5" notebook hard drives are not very reliable. I'm surprised your hard drive hasn't died by now. I usually get a new hard drive with every major OS upgrade. A $ 50 investment every couple of years is no big deal.
Unfortunately, you (and I) suffer from being an early adopter in 2006. Those 32-bit machines only accept 2 GB RAM (maybe 3) and are only 32-bit so they can't be upgraded to Lion. Because of this limitation, you won't see as dramatic an improvement as you would with a 2007 machine. If you run more than a couple of applications, your hard drive is always going to have to be doing some VM work. My 2006 machine has even lost its bluetooth. I gave it to my brother. My very similar 2007 Macbook is still running great.
So, you must get a new hard drive because your old one is likely on death's door. If you don't have at least 2 GB - get it. If you can't afford a new machine, you might want to consider an SSD. That might help mitigate your RAM limitations. You can spend from $ 100 to $ 350 and get a dramatic speed improvement.

  • Apache2 httpd.conf on Snow Leopard 10.6.3

    Hello there,
I've got a problem with the httpd.conf file.
I made some changes and then nothing worked.
After that i found /etc/apache2/original/httpd.conf and thought that this must be the original and copied it to /etc/apache2/ but then i noticed that it's not.
Now, my question: Is there any way to restore the original one that was installed at the beginning.
It's my first mac. Before i used Windows for 15 years.

Use Pacifist to extract it from the original disks.

  • HT5622 I keep getting a pop up about signing into an Icloud account. It won't take the password. I tried to log in on pc and sign in and screwed up on my security questions and it's kicked me out.. how long til I can try again?

I am in iphone **** or better icloud ****. When I try to go ointo settings on the phone a signin prompt pops up continuously with one apple id. I think i've made it that i have a separate icloud and apple id. I am trying to delete the icloud id. I made all the passwords the same so that there should be no problem but the phone won't still take the password. So when i went in again, looking to see if I could delete the icloud, i screwed up answering my security questions and am now unable to enter that icloud id. How long til I can again? Secondly, since the phone won't accept any password, I have tried to delete it. When I do that, it come up with a request for that same password to shut of the locator service. What the heck? I'm frustrated. I just can't get the hang of apple software and itunes seems to be just as bad for me.  Any suggestions appreciated ( aside from stomping on it, I've considered it). Tried to take the battery out but not for me, mere mortal, thought might reset. Got sim card out. Whooopeeee.

It sounds like you have the Find my iphone Activation lock for sure. Go to www.icloud.com/find and see if you put in that Apple ID that is coming up and yoru password to see if you are able to sign into the account that way to turn it off. If you are unable to, you will have to contact AppleCare by phone (chat cannot handle account lock outs or forgotten password due to not being able to verify your identity) and see if they can reset it. And are you sure the Apple ID that is coming up yours?

  • How can I reset my IPad?  It won't take my code and it is the only one I know I have.

How can I reset my IPad?  I've tried twice and had the passcode that I use to unlock my IPad rejected.  Should I be using my apple.com password?  I'm afraid to try again as it might lock the IPad.  I don't remember any other code.  My Wifi and 3G won't work.

Your password for your Apple ID is not the same as the passcode for the screen lock on your iPad unless you set it that way deliberately, enabling the extra-long passcodes (the standard is a four-digit number). If you have a passcode to the screen lock that you've forgotten, restore the iPod from the computer to which the iPod is synced. For information and instructions, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the iPod into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

  • How to edit /etc/vfstab

I created a file system earth in /earthpool (zpool). I mounted the file system on a directory /earth. But, when I reboot my machine it doesn't load the file systems and the zpool and zfs shows no pools available and no datasets respectively. I am using Solaris 10 running on X4500. Could you please give me the syntax of how to change the /etc/vfstab file.
device to mount device to fsck mount point FS type fsck pass mount at boot mount options
    earthpool/earth /earth zfs yes
Is the above syntax correct ? Do I have to separate it using a hyphen or a space is enough ?
    Thank you

I assume you created the filesystem like:
    # zfs create earthpool/earth And you want to mount it as /earth ??
    Then you would use:
    # zfs set mountpoint=/earth earthpool/earth

  • How to edit /etc/hosts?

I need to add a hostname and IP address to /etc/hosts, so that I can access server at a hosting site, after I connect via VPN. The hostname that I need to use is not in the DNS, so I need to add it manually to /etc/hosts. I can't seem to find my root pwd, but I have an account with Admin access. Isn't there some tool for editing this file? Otherwise, I'll need to enable the root account somehow.

Use a tool such as TextWrangler which allows administrators to authenticate to root, or sudo with a command line text editor.

  • My caps lock was stuck and I shut down. Now it's coming back up in safe boot and asking for a password. It won't take my password, I believe because of the caps lock problem. So, how can I get in?

My caps lock was stuck when I shut down my computer. It is coming back up in safe boot (I had spilled liquid on it).
It's asking for my password - which has some lower case letters...So now how can I get in?
Is there a way to change this password or something?
I have a wireless keyboard, but it wasn't set up - so, It's not recognizing it.
    Any ideas?

Take your computer to get the keyboard replaced, your lucky it didn't trigger the moisture sensor and brick your machine, so your chances of the machine working well after the keyboard is replaced is likely very good.
As long as the main keyboard is sending a caps lock signal, it's not going to work even if you get in.
If you need to remove files off the internal drive, use a Firewire cable (800 to 400 adpater may be needed) and hold T to boot the problem Mac into Firewire Target Disk Mode and connect the cable to another Mac, the hard drive will appear on the desktop which you can then remove/erase files.

  • How to restore a backup when it won't take my password

Using windows 7 and the current version of itunes, I opted to backup my iphone 4s 5 days ago.  I do not recall being asked to enter a password. ( If I did, I would have used one of several that I typically use, and would have recorded it.)  Three days later I was looking up a contact and realized about 80 percent of my contacts had disappeared.  I looked at Outlook, with which I was syncing my iphone and it mirrored the current status of my iphone.  I went to try to get my data back from the backup and I cannot do so, because it always says my password is incorrect.  This evidently happened to a lot of people back in March 2013.
Has anyone else had this experience recently?
Is it possible that I could get Apple technical support to help me reset it, since I own the computer on which (I hope) the contacts were stored and am the user of the iphone...  For such an important thing as a backup, it would make sense to offer a alternate security question if the password were forgotten by the system or the individual....
    Thanks for any advice...

  • Every time i try to load an application - I receive a note my credit card is declined.  How do i resolve this problem?  It won't take any other card?

I would like to know what I need to do so I can use my iphone applications.  It won't take my credit card number or any other card?

I assume that by "load" you mean "install from applestore"?
If you do then there is a whole tomelike memo that Apple has for credit cards.  For instance you now can't use gift or vanilla prepaid cards anymore.  But that's probably not your problem here.  Maybe if you could offer a little more info as to where in the Apple maze this is happening?  And are you unable to use your applications (the ones you have successfully installed)?
It sounds like a pretty obscure problem if you can't "load" (start? maybe) the applications that you've already downloaded from Applestore and are installed.  Is this the case or can you be a bit more specific and exact in your terminology?
And have you previously, successfully installed Applestore apps on the very device you are now are having this problem on?  I have had numerous problems with credit cards, authorization and accounts so I may be able to help.  Apple is so unthinkably unthinking when they mesh with the real world that even just one hair out of place can bring you to a grinding halt with no clue as to why.
Be more specific and detailed and I'll hang in with you if I can help.  Frustrating isn't it?

  • Editing httpd.conf

Hi. How do I edit /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
I edited it find and restarted apache and everything worked. However, when I stop web services in Server Admin and than start them again, the configuration file loses all my changes. I need to add *AddHandler jrun-handler .jsp .jws .cfm .cfml .cfc .cfr .cfswf.* to my *<IfModule mod_jrun22.c>* module. I used pico to do this. Thanks!

Stop the httpd service before you edit the httpd.conf file as Server Admin overwrites the file at shutdown/restart.
