How to edit free iChat account profile

Hi. I created an iChat Apple ID using the "Get an iChat account..." button on the Account Setup pane.
Is there any way for me to change the account information I originally entered (email address, password, security question, etc)?
I'm looking for a webpage, similar to the one where I set up the account, to edit all the account details. I searched in this forum for phrases like "edit ichat account" and "edit profile", but none of the posts I came across addressed the issue.
Thanks.

I suppose I should have stated it...but that was the first thing I tried.
Whether I use [AppleID] or [AppleID]@mac.com in the Member Name field, I get an Incorrect Member Name or Password error. I guess that makes sense, since the free iChat account isn't a Mobile Me account.
I know that my AppleID and password are correct, however, since I can log into that account in iChat.
Any other suggestions?

  • Free iChat Account?

Is there a way to get a free iChat account that is not AIM? It seems the only way to sign up through Apple is to buy a $100 Mobile Me subscription.

That is correct. When it was .Mac the iChat account continued to work even if you didn't keep the .Mac service.
It is very dumb that it doesn't work the same way with MobileMe service. I know 5 new Mac users that would like to use iChat but have no interest in MobileMe services...

  • File permissions - how to edit a user account

file permissions - how to edit a user account that is creating files with permissions that are not wanted anymore.
i understand how to reset permissions on files or folders, but i do not understand how to reset the permissions a user is "creating".
ie, each time this user creates a file, the file needs to be manually edited for its permissions. so i need to edit the user's settings, but i can't find where to do that.
this is a home office setup. we have two users with admin privileges. our imac is acting as a server of sorts - it holds common files that need to be edited by both users. the other user is typically working on shared files from a macbook over wifi.

I cannot argue with you, because I've never tried or tested it myself. However, this KB article
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2202>
    states the opposite:
"In Mac OS X v10.5.3 and later, you can create the file /etc/launchd-user.conf with the contents "umask nnn". […]
This will set the user's umask for all applications they launch, such as Finder, TextEdit, or Final Cut Pro, and control the permissions set on new files created by any of these applications."

  • [Microsoft Store][Profile][Billing] How Do I Change Country/Residence for Microsoft Account? Editing Your Microsoft Account Profile for Microsoft Store. SOLVED: Change Home Location

    Hello,
I am experiencing problems with using my Microsoft Account for billing and purchasing apps in Windows store.
I am using my old WLID that I've created several years ago, and I have obsolete information including my country residence there. Now when I go to
    https://billing.microsoft.com, I see that I have 2 profiles:
    Personal profile: US
    Business profile: Russia.
Now the problem is that I want my personal profile be changed to Russia as well. Having US in the profile makes it impossible to make purchases from Microsoft Store because Store does not allow for changing country when making purchases via PayPal.
    Currently I have this information:
I need the Country/Residence information to be changed to Russia. How do I do that?
    I am stuck.
How do I change country for my Microsoft Account?
If it's not possible, would I be able to continue using my Microsoft Account with old residence/country information while making purchases through a new Microsoft account where I have specified my current residence?
Or is it the same as with Windows Phone 7:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2692008
If yes, do I understand that I have to start all my 'virtual living' from scratch to use Microsoft Store? In other words, do I have to sign-in into Windows 8 with a new Microsoft Account that will have Russia specified as a Country/Region to purchase apps
    from Microsoft Store?
If yes, can I use this new account only for purchasing apps while continuing to use my old account or all purchased apps are strictly tied to this new Microsoft Account I will use for purchasing?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    Thanks to
this post @ Microsoft Answers, I was able to make Microsoft Store use correct information of my current country residence.
//The drawback in my case was that I lost the possibility to pay with Paypal, although Paypal supports payments in Russia, and, most importantly, I lost access to US marketplace, all comments/reviews are now in Russian. What a bummer! Honestly, I'd
like to have access to US store... Seems like the only workaround it to switch Home location for the time I purchase an app and change back when the app is purchased.
To change the Country/region data used for Payment and Billing in Microsoft Store,
Press WindowsKey+W to show Start screen and focus on searching in
    Settings.
Type 'region' (without quotes) and open Region dialog box when found.
In the Region dialog switch to Location tab and change the country of choice in the
    Home location drop-down list.
Click OK to apply changes and make them effective.
Open Store and press WindowsKey+I to show settings charms then choose
    Your account.
In the Your account screen click Add payment method to configure your payment settings that will be used for purchasing apps from Windows Store.
    Notice Country/region value has changed.
This country will be specified in Country/residence within Payment and Billing in Microsoft Store app.

  • How to edit/delete child account

Hello, as I was testing this new family sharing feature, I made a mistake while create an account for my kid (wrong D.O.B).
Is there a way to change the D.O.B of a child account (it will still be under 13), or can I just delete the account and start over ?
The icloud help says I can either move the child to another family account or delete it, but with no instruction on how to delete the account.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Eric

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • HT2515 I have iChat on an iBook G4, and I think it is a different way to make an account. Can someone tell me how to make an iChat account on an iBook G4??

    Help!!

    Hi,
From iChat 3 to iChat 6 and then Messages  the basics have remained the same.
I have a G4 tower and it came with OX 10.2 and soon after that iChat was released in it's AV form (iChat2)
The Tower can run everything up to Leopard (OS X 10.5.8) and therefore iChat 4.0.9.
You haven't actually said which version you are running.  (OS or iChat)
In the Applications folder you have highlight the app and then do a Get Info (Apple key + i key together ( or ⌘ + i) )
This will tell you the version of iChat you have.
If it is iChat 3 or 4 it will be able to join the AIM and the Jabber services.
As  Starting point you can register for AIM names here.
You have to enter a real First and Last name and then Test a Screen Name and add and confirm a Password.
You will need to use a recovery email and list answers to Security questions for Password Recovery and the like.
Apple Isssued IDs can also be be valid AIM names but due to recent changes in Lion (iChat 6) and Messages there can be issues with using them in earlier versions.
If you have an @mac.com ID this will work in any version of iChat and Messages providing your password is 16 characters or Less (An AIM server limit)
In IChat 6 and Messages the iCloud Issued IDs are held on a different server and as a Check the application logs into AIM and to Apple. The login to Apple then lets AIM "read" the password.
These are the IDs ending in @me.com and @icloud.com  (these will not work in iChat 5 or earlier)
SInce iChat 3 you can also use Jabber IDs.
GoogleMail IDs that have had the Talk option enabled (In Products) can be used as a Jabber ID (referred to as Google talk)
Facebook IDs that have had "Chat" enabled are also valid IDs
There are many other Jabber servers around the world.
These are an interlinked network of Private and Public servers.
Since iChat 4 the Adding of Googletalk IDs has had it's own selection (it is due to Google not following a general rule of thumb over server names)
Once you have an ID or screen name you want to set up then you need to do the following.
    Open iChat.
Go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
At the bottom of the list on the left click the + icon
In the new pane click the top item to show the drop down options.
Broadly speacking they are in two groups ("AIM" and "Jabber")
The AIM subset will likely offer you @mac.com, MobileMe and AIM
The Jabber Subset should offer Jabber and possibly Google depending on Version.
The MobileMe option will not work for @me.com addresses as these have moved server for Verification of the password.
As I said above the @me.com name and the @icloud.com names will not work in iChat 3, 4, or 5)
The @mac.com option should still work but if it does not (and your password is 16 characters or less) use the AIM option but enter the ID in full.
For Jabber IDs use the Jabber option.
In iChat 3 you need to use this for the GoogleTalk option.
Once you have clicked the Done button and the Buddy list has appeared for a Jabber list go to the server settings tab
Some Jabber servers use SSL (It will automaticaly change to port 5223)
    Others do not (port 5222)
In iChat 3 change the Google Server name to talk.google.com
    Summary
Get an Screen Name (AIM) of Jabber ID
Open the app and go to the Accounst part of the Preferences
    Click the + icon
In the new pane select the most suitable option in the top item drop down.
Change server settings on Jabber accounts if required.

    Hi
On that website look at the part called Try Out iChat, there is a link to the free 6-month trial. iChat will still accept the screen name you choose after the trial has ended. The alternative is to get a free AIm screen name (you do not have to download the AIm software):
    Free AIM screen name

  • How do I edit my iTunes account and also verify what credit card number I have in my account?  Several charges have shown up on my husband's company credit card and I would like to see if they are my charges.

Please tell me how to edit my iTunes account info.  The we're charges from iTunes on my husband's company credit card.  I can't tell by the amount if they were mine that were supposed to go on my card.  There's just a total charge and not a detailed account of the purchases.  Please advise.  Thanks.

  • Free iChat?

I keep reading articles that seem to imply that iChat AV offers free video chat. I've gotten a couple of friends to get macs and it always seemed to require a .mac account. Is iChat AV really free, or must you have the $100 per year service of .mac to use iChat AV?
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

    Hey, that's PERFECT!!!
Now, I can show people how to get FREE iChat! Either AIM or just sign up for a .mac account and use the same name after the trial expires!
Thanks for all the quick replies, helpful advice and comments. This is why it's so great to own a Mac.
    Thanks everyone!

  • Which iChat Account Type do I setup?

I have googled this to death and got nowhere. I have been trying to set up an iChat account. The first thing I tried was to set up a mac.com account. Apparently, I needed to enter in my apple id which is my regular email address. It wasn't having this so I had to give up. So next I eventually managed to set up a google talk account using my gmail account. Heypresto it appears to have worked! My question is this: Will I only be able to do video calls with people who have a google talk account setup on the Mac? What if they have an account elsewhere like AIM?
I'm new to Mac having previously been in a Windoze and Linux world. I thought a Mac was meant to be really easy to use but everything about it is not as intuitive as I thought.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
The @Mac.com registration page is a pain if you have already used your one and only Email address in some other form of Apple ID.
@Mac.om were the email addresses that were given out with the .Mac service that preceded MobileMe.
AS any Trial account or Lapsed Paid for account still worked in iChat as a Valid AIM name, Apple moved the name over to be "free iChat Accounts"
If you already have a MobileMe name or an @Mac.com one they are automatically AIM screen Names (AS long as the Password is 16 characters or less)
You can use ANY email to register on the @mac.com page (So you could use your Googlemail one).
You can also do the same thing at the AIM Registration page (And use an @Mac.com or MobileMe one).
However there is a risk of confusion doing things this way. (not to mention keeping any changes in Passwords sorted in your head)
Yes, For Video and Audio an Google Name listed in iChat can only do so to other iChat users that have a Registered Jabber or Google Name in use. (Google's Googletalk server is a Jabber server)
Jabber apps in general use a protocol called Jingle to Connect where as iChat uses SIP
The Google version of Jingle is also not compatible with other Jabber apps
    See here
This means that Google's PC app of the same name and the Web Mail Chat option can also not Video or Audio Chat to other Jabber apps
Your choices are to Register at @Mac.com with another email (will give you an iChat/AIM name plus another Apple ID)
    Or to register at AIM
As you will see on this page you can actually register an existing email as the Screen Name (you would normally choose just a name and then link an Email for Confirmation and recovery/Changing password/settings purposes like the @Mac.com page).
The Change to make any @Mac.com name an Apple ID, causing the confusion with the use of an existing email > Apple ID link is a fairly new issue as they did not automatically become Apple IDs a few months ago.
