How to edit from a dvd camcorder

hey-can fce hd edit video from a dvd camcorder? i've searched for it but have only found confusing things that wouldnt produce the quality i need (full DV quality). can anyone help me??
thank you.

I think a lot of newcomers get confused with the term "digital video".
Video output from DVD and HDD camcorders, together with that from still digital cameras and mobile phones is all digital video in that it is composed of ones and zeroes.
Some newcomers, wrongly, assume that all digital video is therefore the same.
They do not realise that there is an almost infinite number of types and quality of dv.
The only kind (ideally) suitable for FCE and other good editing systems is DV (capital letters) which is normally produced by tape-based cameras.
There is also a false belief in the general public that the term "digital" is synonymous with "high quality".
They do not appreciate that "digital" can cover everything from the absolutely worst, abysmal product to one of the highest possible standard.

How do I get video from my Canon DVD  camcorder to Imovie?

The second half of this file discusses moving files from an iPod to a computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Videos are presumably in the "Video" rather than "iTunes" directory; you should be able to just navigate around in that directory for the file you want rather than replacing the entire directory as that article suggests (in which case you'd want to omit the "moving the directory to the desktop" steps, and so forth).

  • Transferring a movie from a dvd camcorder

I have purchased an analog converter called ADVC110 to try and burn a copy of my home movies which were recorded on my Sony DVD camcorder but the process seems to take forever and is using up all the memory on my i-mac, surely this cannot be right ? I am trying to do this via i-movie HD, each recording on my dvd camcorder is taking about 1 hr 12 mins and there are about 70 of them , can anyone help to make this quicker and easier ?

The ADVC 110 is an analogue to digital converter. The way it works is for your camcorder to play the DVD in real time just like you were watching it. The camcorder outputs an AV signal that the ADVC converts to DV on the fly.
Therefore it is hardly surprising that a DVD containing about 1hr 12mins of real time recording takes exactly that time to download to the computer by this method. The DV format produced by the ADVC is the same as that used by tape digital camcorders - either digital 8 or minidv. This takes a lot of memory - about 17 gig per hr.
Another way would be to copy the DVD contents direct to your hard drive from a DVD player. The size of these DVD movies will be a lot less than if in DV format but they cannot be utilised directly by imovie. They can, however be played by various other means. These can be converted by your computer to DV using various third party programs. The process is not easy and probably takes as long as your real time conversion using the ADVC. You will still be stuck with the large file size.
Do you need to edit all of your movies using the full features of imovie or do you just want to cut/crop? If so there are alternatives to imovie. Look on Versiontracker
Maybe it would be better to cut/crop your DVD (mpeg 2) footage before imovie conversion.

  • Editing from VIDEO_TS dvd content...

I need to edit the content of several old DVD's.  I have successfully transferred the content from all the DVD's to my hard drive.  I am able to edit all of the content in Premiere normally except for the content of one particular DVD.   If I drag the VIDEO_TS folder from this DVD into VLC it plays perfectly.  It also, of course, plays perfectly directly off the dvd.  If I drag the VIDEO_TS folder into Premiere it imports properly but the content is a mess.  For example, the video clips are all truncated, the audio does not align etc.
Notes:  the problem DVD is the only one that transferred to my hard drive and did not create an AUDIO_TS folder.
    Any thoughts?

  • Pavilion TouchSmart PC 20-f323, how to boot from a DVD?

My client has a HP Pavilion 20-f323 TouchSmart PC with Windows 8 on it and wants to downgrade and install Windows 7 Pro instead.
However, my first question here is, how do I boot to my Windows 7 Pro DVD on the TouchSmart PC?  I cannot even find a boot menu option to boot from the DVD player.
Any other URLs pointing to this downgrade process would be appreciated!
Thank you very much for your time.

    ****Disclaimer*****
HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.
You will need to purchase a new copy of Windows 7 with a valid COA and product key.
The screen shots below are from an HP 15t-j100 notepad computer... the options and configuration screens on your computer may differ.
    You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot configuration" on the settings page similar to what is shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;
After saving the changes, the computer will request that you confirm the changes... Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and pressing the "ENTER" key.
If are you are installing from a USB stick and see a "Load Driver - a required CD/DVD drive device is missing" message, this is because "System Configuration" > "USB3.0 Config in Pre-Boot" is set to "Enabled". This must be set to "Auto". This should clear up the CD/DVD device missing.
Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk. Turn on or reboot the computer and tap "F9" or "ESC" and then "F9" when prompted. Highlight the UEFI boot source you are using and press "ENTER".
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
    From the top...
    1)  Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "ESC" key.
    2)  When the MENU comes up, press the "F10" key.
    3)  Navigate the BIOS to "System Configuration", "USB 3.0 Config in Pre-OS" and set to "Auto".
    4)  Navigate the BIOS to  "System Configuration", "Boot Options" and set "Secure Boot" to "Disabled" and set "Legacy Support" to "Enabled".
    5)  Press "F10" and click "YES" to "Exit Saving Changes"
    6)  Computer should restart and display "Operating System Boot Mode Change"... type the four digit code and press "ENTER".
    7)  Let Windows 8 boot-up and place the Windows 7 SP1media in the DVD drive or USB port, then log-off / shutdown.
    8)  Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "ESC" key.
    9)  When the MENU comes up, press the "F9" key and then select the correct UEFI boot source (Internal CD/DVD drive, USB CD/DVD drive, USB Flash drive, etc.)... Press any key to boot CD/DVD, if prompted.
    10)  Select "Language", "Time / Currency", and "Keyboard" settings and then click "Next"
    11)  Click "Install Now"... check "Accept Terms" and click "Next". Click "Custom (Advanced)".
    12)  You may need to supply AMD SATA/RAID drivers at this time... Download AMD Chipset Drivers (Chipset / AHCI / USB 3.0)
    13)  "Where do you want to install Windows 7???" Select "Disk / Partition" with "Unallocated Space" you created earlier and click "Next".
    14)  Follow all prompts and answer as needed. Enter Windows 7 key when requested.

  • Solaris 10 - how to boot from the dvd media

    Hi,
Could any body guide me on how to prepare the dvd media for solaris 10 installation? I downloaded the 5 dvd images and have no idea on how to put them together on a single dvd to boot from it. I zipped all the dvd's and burned them on a dvd but it doesn't boot from the dvd. Any help will be most appreciated. I can't wait to use solaris 10. Thank you.
    OC

That is true, but remember that you are doing this in DOS and the file names and locations have to be right. I put the 5 files into a root directory and just renamed them 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
    copy /b 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 file.iso
file.iso would be the name of the resulting image. You can use anything, i.e., solaris10.iso instead of file.iso if you want.

  • Satellite A350-12D - How to recover from recovery DVD?

    Hey!
Recently i purchased a Toshiba A350 disc. I've format both the discs and went with a clean sweap install of windows vista. Now, a few months later i want to use the Toshiba Recovery Discs i made on the first startup, to recover my Toshiba laptop and set it back to the default installation.
With the tool to create Toshiba Recovery Discs, i had to make 2 recovery discs. The first DVD contains the Windows installation, and the 2nd DVD contains SWM files.
I started the recovery by putting recovery disc 1 in my DVD player and boot it up. After boot it installed Windows Vista, and it never asked for DVD2. After the installation, I have a clean Windows Vista, but no Toshiba pre installed drivers, software etc.
How can I recover my laptop to the default settings, the way i bought it?
    thnx for ur awnser,
    sincerely, Frank
    null

    Hi
Usually the Toshiba Recovery disk should contain the image.
The image is the package which contains the Vista, Toshiba drivers/tools and the additional software.
The Toshiba Recovery disk Creator can create the Recovery disk using the image on the notebook and therefore its not understandable for me and I cannot believe why you get only clean Vista without the Toshiba drivers and tools and 3rd party software.
You did everything right. In order to recover the notebook, you have to boot from Recovery disk and have to follow the instruction on the screen.
    Thats all.
PS: I the drivers and tools are really missing then you could download it from here:

  • Editing from a DVD created from a VHS tape

I have been coping a lot of VHS tapes of the kids to DVD's (DVD-RW). Now I want to load the DVD into iMovie and edit. Do anyone know of a program that will do this?

Go to the above link and download the Cinematize 2 product. This works great, and it is very easy to use. I transfered all of my old HI-8 videos to DVD. I had the SAME problem as you, I could not load the new DVDs to iMovie. Cinematize allows you to "cinematize" the DVD, to allow it to work in iMovie. I am now able to edit all of my old Hi-8 videos, because Cinematize allowed iMovie to read my newly formed DVDs.

  • How to install from Tiger DVD on Lombard with CD drive

I've installed Jaguar on a G3 Powerbook Lombard, and downloaded XPostFacto 4. I want to install Tiger, but I only have the DVD version, and there is only a CD drive in the computer. Can I install Tiger from a networked DVD drive, or is there another option?
    tim

There has been at least one report of success using an external USB 1.1 DVD drive to start up the Mac OS X 10.4 DVD on a clamshell iBook
Okay, it seems that the DVD will boot from a USB DVD drive after setting the Boot Disk to the USB drive.
However, running XPostFacto returns a "XPostFacto does not work with this model: Powerbook 1,1" (1,1 referring to Lombard). I've also searched around the XPF forums with little luck. Tiger will also not natively install on a Lombard, but I found this article that details a OSInstall.dist code change to allow Tiger to install.

I may try this later, and post back with results. For now, I'll be running 10.2.

  • How to edit an imported dvd

I am trying to import an old dvd i made and edit it.  Can't seem to get imovie or idvd to accept it.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • How to burn from a dvd to computer

I just want to know the steps to burn a dvd onto the computer.  I don't think I am doing it correctly.

You need a 3rd party "DVD ripper" burn DVDs onto a Mac.  Is that what you are using to burn your DVD onto your computer?  If so, read the instruction (Help) manual.
DVD ripping is kind of a sticky topic in these forums due to legal stuff (if you know what I mean).  Therefore, the only thing I can do is to suggest that do a Google search for DVD rippers, check over on MacUpdate and CNET Downloads if you are not using a ripper.
Three very simple to use rippers are Aimersoft DVD Ripper PPC, Mac DVDRipper and MacTheRipper.

    Hi,
Just installed a new HD on my MBP. I inserted the leopard DVD and it was spinning for about 2 minutes and then nothing happned. Just black screen. Now I tried starting holding the C key down. Nothing. I tried starting holding the eject button down, no eject of the DVD. I tried holding the button below the tracklpad down, no eject of the DVD.
How to boot from a DVD?
    How to force eject DVD?
    What am I doing wrong?

I hope you get an answer to this as I'm sturggling to
    A) start my computer as it just goes to a grey screen
    B) Force Eject a DVD
Someone suggested the below on another thread, it didn't work for me but maybe it will work for you.

(I don't have my (no-longer booting) iBook in front of me to check this, but I think this is what I did last night....)
Boot single user -- hold down "cmd-S" immediately after you turn the computer on.
"diskutil list" will give you a list of your disks. My CD drive was disk1.
"diskutil eject disk" should eject the target disk.
