How to edit quiz for children

Question

I teach kids who've failed to learn to read at school.
I can't figure out how to start a quiz page and enlarge the text greatly, move the locations of the three words I'm comparing, and use a smiley face for the right answer. It's beyond me at this point in my learning Captivate.
Does anyone know of ANYplace online where teachers of children, not adult elearners, discuss Captivate issues? I've searched my fingers to the bone.

Answering your question more directly isn't as helpful because you don't learn to use the program as well, but Ill do that as well:
1).I can't figure out how to start a quiz page?
     - I would start with opening a blank project. It will ask for preferred resolution, the default should be fine. Now go up to "INSERT" at the top of your screen and click "Question Slide" (should be 4 down or so, depending on your version of captivate). Now choose the style of question that best fits what you are trying to do. I'm not sure of your quiz type but going off of "three words you're comparing" a multiple choice or matching might fit. Click on the desired question type, indicate how many questions of that style you have, and indicate whether or not you want it to be graded. Once this is done click OK and it will generate the slides. On the menu on the right, you have "Quiz Properties" where you can control most of the settings of individual quiz slides. In the top bar under "QUIZ", "Quiz Preferences" controls settings for the entire quiz.
2). Enlarge the text greatly?
     -You can change the font size in the menu on the right when you have selected the text box of the text you want to change. Its under the tab "Properties" and then subtab "Character" This is also where you change font style, color, etc. Once you increase the font size you may need to adjust your text box size, which can be done by dragging the corner of the box to the appropriate size (tip: hold shift while changing size to keep the box to scale, this is more important for videos or images but sometimes its nice for text too)
3).Move the locations of the three words I'm comparing?
     - As easy as clicking and holding the box and moving it around.
4). Use a smiley face for the right answer?
     -This is a little trickier but definitely possible. Remember in #1 when I mentioned "Quiz Properties" on the right? you need to go through slide by slide (or select them all at the same time) and go to "quiz properties" on the right. Under "Options" it will have checkbox with "Correct" If this is checked it will give success message if the question is correctly answered. So this will be your happy face message. Check that box and then go to your first slide. In the lower left of the slide there will be three boxes stacked on top of each other. The YELLOW one on top indicates whether the question has been completed and tells the student they must complete the question before they move on (move this out of the way to get to the next one). The RED one next tells the student they answered incorrectly (I'll get back to this). The GREEN one at the bottom is your success message you are looking for. By default it will say "Correct - Click anywhere or press ‘y’ to continue." Delete this text so you are left with a plain green box. Here's where it gets tricky, You need to go online to find an image of a smiley face that is in .bmp image format. Harder than it sounds because A). it needs to be the right size, you cannot make it smaller once it is imported and B). most of the images are in .png format. The only one I found in a brief search was this crude one:

Right click on the image and save it somewhere on your computer. Now back on captivate, click on the green box and go to the menu on the right. Under the first tab "Properties" find the subtab "General". There should be a "Caption:" under that with a 'green' as selected. Click on the file folder to the right of 'green' and locate your smiley face you saved earlier. When it imports it will take the place of your green box. Resize it expanding the box from the corner and it will be your new success message. Now the red box is your incorrect message, and you can change this too if you wish. Maybe a red X or an unhappy face. If you want to get rid of it all together or add hints instead of a failure message, all this can be controlled under Quiz properties on the right.
Hope this helps more but I still suggest getting a general understanding of the program, it will help you much more in the end.
