How to eliminate random periods in some Table of Contents TOC listings?

Pages '09 ver.4.1
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?
Thank you!

The original document was an imported simple(!) Word file without any TOC . . .
I created a guest user account on my computer and started from the beginning with a new document in Pages. The problem did not show up. TOC looked as expected.
Logging back in to my regular user account on my computer I created two new Pages docs and TOC's also looked fine.
I created a new Pages doc and attempted to copy/paste body text and objects from my original doc imported from Word and the TOC period problem came back.
Seems to be a strong suggestion here of a connection with Word corruption.
I will now begin to hand type the text into a new Pages doc . . . it's only 5000+ words or so . . . I'm tempted to say wryly, "thank YOU, Microsoft", but not being 100% sure of that, I'll just be quiet and continue typing . . .

    Hi Gnanasekarn,
You can create TOC in webi using Open Document, You can create link on the TOC and you can connect that link to open new report .
With the help of open document you can open the specific portion of report.
So you can achive your requirement using URL reporting or Open Document.

  • How to remove the bookmark from the table of contents?

Hi everyone, I have a question:
How to remove the bookmark from the table of contents in Captivate 6?
    Regards...

Doug, your frustration is making you "bug" gun trigger happy. LOL
    LOL, I suppose I have.
I believe the answer you are looking for is in the publishing preferences: under LMS advanced settings, look for the option: never send resume data.
[can someone please confirm this - I am not at a desktop now]
Anyhow, selecting this option will stop resume data - so the lesson will treat even returning learners as new. Hopefully, this will work for you.
    This works! Thank you again!
*but* Why isn't Captivate asking the learner to make the choice of whether to start over or resume. It does this correctly if the lesson is published stand-alone.
    Thanks again!

  • How to create a table of contents (TOC) linking to specific pages of different (multiple) PDFs

    Hi All,
I would like to create clickable Table of Contents (TOC) that can lead to a sub clickable TOC that would lead to a specific page of different PDFs within a folder.
    Is that possible?
Secondly, is is possible to create a search box that upon typing a specific word (not related to text within the PDFs), that word to be linked to a specific page of a particular PDF out of many within a folder?
To make it more clear, I have a database of specifications of equipment and drawings of a building, all in multiple PDF files. I would like to be able to unify all those PDFs and if I type the room number of the building to be presented with a menu of choces pointing to services assosiated with that room, being elctrical power drawings, lighting drawings or drawings of Air Conditioning and Ducting associated with that room. So I type a room number, then I get a menu of Power, Lights, Fire Alarm, or Ducting all associated with that room, then if I click Fire Alarm to be directed straight to the drawing within a PDF related to that room.
    Thanks

I would say: Try and Error. Create a copy of your document and unmark in the copied document in the document inspector all boxes for the TOC. Then mark them again. Maybe you should also delete the paragraph styles and mark them again. If that doesn't work, try to copy the complete text of your document to a new created one. Maybe that works.
    Good luck!
P.S.: If that doesn't work look here. Maybe this helps.

  • Acrobat XI PRO: Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically in top, after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file

    Hey
I have now tried for hours, but now I give up!
    MY WISH -
Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file.
I have already bookmarks, shown on the screen (see screenshot below) but I want those bookmark to be visualised in a separate TOC in the top of the combined files.
This new TOC (which I have inserted) shall be printable and serve as a cover page in a binder.
I have seen other cheap pdf.programs in the market (e.g. PDF Converter Professional 7.3) which are able to make the above things, easy, fast and nice.

  • How to return column name in some table?

    Hi All,
I know :system.cursor_value which returns the value of the current text item in the form.
But Is there a way to return the column name and its value in some table?
Note: I'm using Oracle DB 10g
    Thank you

Did you read the original post? [...] You don't understand what I want and you don't say antthing useful for my goal!
This is the SQL and PL/SQL forum. You need the Mind-Readers' forum down the hall.
First you asked "Is there a way to return the column name and its value in some table?", and were told you can get the former from the data dictionary (you can get the latter from the table itself).
Then you say you "want to create a trigger on a table", which tells us nothing about your problem.
Finally you say "but suppose the table contains 50 columns then I have to write 50 columns names three times", which is essentially true - but the process can be automated. What you (probably) need to do is write queries based on the data dictionary tables that generates the PL/SQL that you ultimately put in your triggger - you then use that output to build the trigger(s).
I don't think there's any way, at run time, to generically fish out all the columns of a table with their :new and :old values - you have to write (or auto-generate) specific code for each table.

  • ID CS5: How to include additional text into a table of contents and how to hide text from it?

    I have the following problem:
    1. I'd like to include additional Information in my table of contents which I don't want to appear in the text I refer to.
Example: I do have a picture with a caption saying:
    picture 1: Blablabla.
And I want to have the source of the picture as additional information in the table of contents:
    picture 1........Blablabla (source: thisandthat)........23
Still I don't want this additional content to disappear, as soon as I update the table of contents!
    How can I achieve that?
    2. And how can I have this the other way round?
Let's say I want the source in the caption, but not in the table of contents.
    So the caption says:
    picture1: Blablabla (source: thisandthat)
but the table of content says:
    picture 1........Blablabla.....................23
I was trying to achieve this by two different praograph styles in the caption. One which would be listed, and one which wouldn't be listed, but this of course resulted in always having two paragraphs in the caption, which I'd like to avoid:
    picture1: Blablabla
    (source: thisandthat)
    Any solution to this?
    Best Regards,
    Rainer Schwachsinn

Sorry, missed the second part of the question. I think the only way to do that is to use invisible "dummy" text of some sort, and if you're going to do it for some entries, you might as will do it for all.
One of the easiest ways is to put the text you want inthe TOC into an anchored frame attached to the actual heading in the text (so it moves along with it). Use a unique paragraph style for this text, and include this style, not the one applied to the headings inthe text, to make the TOC. I usually use a character color of red to make it satnd oout so I don't forget it's there, and the position on the page isn't really critical. Select the anchored frame, open the Attributes panel and make it non-printing. You'll see it in editing mode, the TOC will pick it up (as will variables, if required) but it will disappear on output.

  • How do I add headers to the Table of Contents?

    Hi there,
I have a book that mainly consists of text boxes rather than inline text. The main title (on each page) is what I want to show up in the table of contents so the reader can just tap the title and jump to the page. How I tried to do this was make the titles "Header 1" and then go to table of contents and add that to the list but it doesn't seem to be working. I am thinking it's because TOC might only work with inline text. Does anyone have any other suggestions for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Caleb

Sorry, I'll try to describe this layout as best I can and if I still need to change it to make it work then I guess that's life.
    Page Layout
    Preface
    Mission Statement
    About the Author
    Acknowledgements
    Using the Manuals
Chapter 1 - Muscles of the Lower Leg
    Soleus Medial
    Soleus Lateral
    Plantaris
    etc.
    Chapter 2 - Muscle Quizzing
    Soleus Medial
    Soleus Lateral
    Plantaris
    etc.
So when your in the table of contents, you can swipe between preface, muscles of the lower leg, and quizzing pretty easily. In preface (underneath the preface title in the table of contents) it shows a list saying Mission statement, about the author, etc.) I want that same list to appear for the pages under Muscle Quizzing.

  • How to use different images in the Table of Contents?

Hello everyone, I am creating an iBook about Architecture and I would like to have different images for each Chapter in the Table of Contents... But when I add an image it automatically appears on all the other chapters, too. What am i doing wrong?

You drag the image to the screen and it replaces the placeholder image.
When you hover over the current image, don't you get the message "this is a placeholder . . ." under your mouse pointer?
I think the documentation states that the new image must be jpg or png, but a Photoshop image seems to work too.
In portrait mode, only one image shows at the top of the list of chapters, and that can be changed too.
But in landscape mode, all of the separate chapter images can be accessed by clicking the littel dots at the bottom of the screen when at the TOC page.

  • Creating a Table of Content (toc)

    Hi
I am very new with Output designer, so please dont mind if it is a silly question.
I have to create a PDF report which has around 15-20 sections. I need a toc (table of content) at first page and at the specified position with page number for each section.
All the sections has some header and detail subforms, so pagenumber is not known at the begining for each sections. I am using xml file as the data file.
So can i use JFPREAMBLE to get the page number for different subforms, and write that on to the toc subform,
i did lot of mind storming but not able to resolve my problem, please help.
    thanks and regards

    Hello,
I was able to create a TOC for a recent customer in the UK.
Took a lot of work, but it worked.
You will have to create a TDF to get the data that you require to be on the TOC, but this is quite easy. The best way is to get the TDF to output the result as a seperate file, and then get the orginal data to call the file as the first thing that you do by using the ^file command
If you would like an example please drop me a line at [email protected]

  • FrameMaker Table of Contents TOC Help Needed

I am working on a book using Frame Maker 8 and I am trying to generate a table of contents for the first time.
The book has several chapters, and I am able to generate a TOC with the Chapter titles without a problem.
Within the chapters, there are outlines. When I generate the TOC with the Heading1Start and Heading1 (marked with roman numerals in the body text), it works fine too.
But then when I add the Heading2Start and Heading 2 (marked with capital letters A, B, C in the body text), it generates the TOC list with only the headings and page numbers but without the capital letters for the paragraph numbers.
Basically, I'm getting something that looks like this:
    Chapter 1 ....... 7
    I. Overview ... 13
    Introduction 13
when what I need is this:
    Chapter 1 ....... 7
    I. Overview ... 13
    A. Introduction 13
    How do I fix this?
I apologize if this is a simple topic of if the answer is elsewhere. I searched for an answer in a few places but did not find one.

have you used the <$paranum> building block on your TOC reference page?
I explain this and other building blocks on p.372 of my book. The <$paranum> functionality is the same in FM11 as in FM8.

  • How to eliminate error messages that some functions produce?

    ?

    Hi,
In order for the error messages not to appear, you can comment them out. Please look at the example below:
    CALL FUNCTION 'HRCA_PLANT_GET_COMPANYCODE'
               EXPORTING
                    plant                 = wa_equz2-iwerk
               IMPORTING
                    companycode           = lv_bukrs
               EXCEPTIONS
                    no_company_code_found = 1
                    plant_not_found       = 2

           MESSAGE ID sy-msgid TYPE sy-msgty NUMBER sy-msgno
                    WITH sy-msgv1 sy-msgv2 sy-msgv3 sy-msgv4.
         ENDIF.
Or you can just leave them out.

    Hi,
I'd like to know how to hide page number in the ToC. They show automatically, but at least for the headings of third ad fourth order I'd like to suppress/omit them.

  • Include icon graphics in table of contents (TOC)?

    Question
Is it possible to have icons (i.e. inline anchored frames) automatically appear in the TOC?
(We translate into 15+ languages, so adding the graphics manually to the TOC after it's generated isn't really a viable option.)
    Scenario
In our manuals, we include a troubleshooting section explaining what different warning symbol icons mean. (Kind of like the various check engine lights you see in cars.) It'd be nice to show the actual icons in the TOC, to hopefully make that info a little easier to find.
We do include the icons in the actual headings in the book using shrink-wrapped anchored frames, but each anchored frame gets replaced with a space in the auto-generated TOC. (Which is what we would want in most cases, just not this particular instance.)
    Specs
We're working in unstructured FM 11.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jason Nichols

If you are willing to have a separate paragraph format for each variation of icon, you might be able to use the Frame Above property of each corresponding xxxTOC tag to bring in its icon, using the negative-space Frame-Above hack that Arnis described lately at:
    Are circled numbered steps possible?
This is going to pollute the Paragraph Catalog of course.
I would be tempted instead to use some font rendering tool to convert your icons to character glyphs in Unicode Private Use Area E000-F8FF*. Then the icons are just text brought in with each heading. Note: switching Character Formats in a heading breaks the automatic hypertext in the TOC. See:
    Page Number color in TOC
The link termination problem could be avoided by using an open license Unicode text font that is similar to your preferred heading font, and adding the icon glyphs to it in Private Use Area. Then there is no character format change in the affected TOC entries. Of course, turning your icons into font glyphs presumes you have vector art for them that is easily converted to outlines, otherwise it's going to be a major effort.
    * I would avoid Private Use Areas A or B, due to being on Planes 15 and 16 (larger than 32-bit code points).
