How to eliminate some samples in exs24?

Consider the exs24 violas (orchestral->strings->viola section). There are two zones (upbow and downbow) which are active when this instrument is chosen (these are the only rows with the "on" box checked), and there are two sets of samples for each zone, one set for velocities 0 - 110, another for 111-127. (I see this in the "Vel. range of the exs24 editor.) The loudness break is clearly heard, with a significant velocity jump and a much greater slope of decibels vs velocity for the upper range.  This "feature" makes it difficult to control dynamics in compositions.
So I (thought I) eliminated the higher-velocity samples by simply deleting all the 111-127 rows in the upbow/downbow zones. I then changed the velocity range of the remaining rows to 0 - 127. I saved the edited instrument under a new name.
The problem is that, when I now create a new software instrument track with this new instrument,  the break at 110 is still there, so it sounds like the two sets of samples are still being used. However, the editor shows only one set of samples with velocity range 0 - 127.
It doesn't seem that the velocity is automatically non-linear, since for example with Steinway piano club, the break is around velocity 105, and is not as pronounced as for the viola. (The cello is even worse.)
Is this a bug or did I miss something?

P.S. I could use only velocities below 109 in my compositions, but the problem is that the viola sample at low velocity and low pitch is noisy and very ugly and I would have to modify the "legato" instrument to get rid of that. So I need to solve this problem.

The original document was an imported simple(!) Word file without any TOC . . .
I created a guest user account on my computer and started from the beginning with a new document in Pages. The problem did not show up. TOC looked as expected.
Logging back in to my regular user account on my computer I created two new Pages docs and TOC's also looked fine.
I created a new Pages doc and attempted to copy/paste body text and objects from my original doc imported from Word and the TOC period problem came back.
Seems to be a strong suggestion here of a connection with Word corruption.
I will now begin to hand type the text into a new Pages doc . . . it's only 5000+ words or so . . . I'm tempted to say wryly, "thank YOU, Microsoft", but not being 100% sure of that, I'll just be quiet and continue typing . . .
