How to embed/apply a system font to an entire PDF

How can I embed/apply a system font to an entire PDF so that I can freely reword a document?
I am reading a highly technical document.  The best way for me to understand it is to replace complex words with synonyms and definitions that I understand. The best way to do this is with the TouchUp tool, but I'm getting the "no available system font" error.  By default the touch up tool will select a line of text that you can then right click -> properties and select a font to embed to correct this error.
I need to apply this process to the entire document, not just one line.  Somehow I accidently managed to apply this process to a full page of text, but I do not know the details of what I actually did.  So I know it is possible to do this to at least large chunks of text.
Please advise.

The quick and dirty way would be to open up a New document in Microsoft Word, then using the Text Select tool (next to the Hand Tool in the toolbar) copy and paste into Word, make your edits, then convert or print to PDF.  That's best if the document is a few pages.
Another way is to convert the document to Microsoft Word using the command File > Save As > Microsoft Word > Word document. It should preserves any tables, graphs and equations, and you should be able to easily edit it. You could even substitute the fonts with what you have on your system. Then convert it back to PDF.
A third way is in Acrobat. It is the Edit Object tool.  This is where Acrobat would send you to Adobe Illustrator to revise the text. It's much more work since the text might have to be reformatted...and I think you might want to try the Word method first.
You can now understand why the conventional wisdom is to use the source document. Acrobat at this point is  for minor edits, and enhancements, page numbering headers and footers.
Acrobat XI coming out in about 30 days is going to have far better editing capabilities, so you may want to consider that if you are going to be doing this often.

  • How can I reinstall missing system fonts?

I used FontXplorer X Pro to organize my fonts sometime back. I just updated it to 9.2.2 and found in the ReadMe file that the update was correcting the fact that 9.2.1 deleted some of the system fonts. How can I restore the missing fonts?
I'm thinking of uninstalling FontXplorer and then reinstalling it and starting fresh with a new setup. But I still need missing system fonts. Safari is asking for ZapfDingBatsITC; activating the ZapfDingBats I have doesn't work.
I have the install disk for OS X Snow Leopard. There is no install disk for Mavericks since it was a download only (I believe this since I can't find the DVD). Would I be able to pull system fonts from the Snow Leopard disk? I looked the Snow Leopard disk contents but don't dare to try anything.
    Thanks in advance.

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Then re-install the OS.

  • How can I fix Lion system font bugs?

I've recently updated to Snow Leopard to do an uptade to Lion. Already, once the Snow was installed the system font was altered to the one in the image at the botom. I thought installing Lion would do the trick and it would fix the bug, but it didn't. It's been impossible to find articles with the same topic.

Edit the source doucment, or install the exact font that you are missing.

  • How do I restore missing system fonts?

I recently installed a couple font managment tools and ever since I have noticed that I don't have the full list of default system fonts. Below is a screenshot of what I have. I notice that there are a lot of missing fonts that should be there such as Georgia, Trebuchet, Verdana and many more. Is there a way to reinstall them or restore them? I tried the restore Standard Fonts option in Font Book but says no problems encountered. I also downloaded a program called Pacifist but don't know what to do next.

Oh, boy! You are flirting with danger playing around with fonts. Which font managers have you used? Extensis Suitcase is a good one because you can use different font sets and keep the system fonts separate, but one corrupt font can turn your Mac into a black box.
It is wise to only install fonts you intend to use and not huge amounts of unnecessary fonts.
Here is a tutorial on wise font management in OSX. Well worth the read. It is a PDF so you can download it and keep it:

  • How do you apply the same password policy to every PDF document you create with inDesign?

    All,
    Adobe peeps!,
I don't know if this is really supported with inDesign 5.5, but here is my my use case:
I constantly create more than 10 PDFs a day using inDesign
On  all PDF's I create, i want to apply password security to protect them
But in order to do so, within inDesign, I am   always forced to go to the "security dialogue" pane to set up the same permission  and passwords over and over again
    This gets tiring :/
So what I am hoping to do is  the following:
Like acrobat, I want to create a password policy within inDesign
I want all PDFs created to have such a password policy  be automatically applied
I know acrobat supports something like this (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7d68.w.h tml), but, unless I may have missed something, the Acrobat feature is limited. That is, the help link  does not tell me how to automatically do this with Acrobat either (the link does not explain to me how to "automatically apply the same password security policy to every PDF document I save within the application). I think the only way to do so is via "Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management ES", but for non server users, I am hoping there is another way.
    So my questions are:
Is it possible to create password security policies in inDesign?
Is it possible to apply the same password security policy to every PDF i create in inDesign?
If not, can I change default settings within Acrobat ProX to automatically apply a password security policy everytime I save a PDF?
If all fails, do you guys know of any extensions that can support this?
Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Steve,
Thanks for your notes. To follow up on your response.
Bummer. I kinda had a hunch at this inDesign limitation.
I have been aware of the method for setting up of a security policy within Acrobat. While this feature does cut down some of the work involved in creating and applying password policies to pdfs, what I am looking for with Acrobat is to apply the same password policy to every document I save from the app. Automatically. Without having to manualy select a policy.
I think my solution will have to lie in me creating some sort of script to help support this need. I don't think Acrobat Pro X has the capabilities to allow me to tinker with, say, creating a save PDF preset that will allow me to automatically apply a password policy.
PS. I am using acrobat pro x.

  • How do I change the system font size?

Just a got a new Macbook pro. Love it but can't figure out how to change the font size for the whole system. I can adjust the content of specific windows  but I can't seem to change the size of text in the address bar, tool bar, menu bar, etc. Everything is way too small on this big beautiful screen!

Also use Firefox and the following add-ons:
NoSquint and Theme Font & Size Changer
NoSquint will remmeber your zoom setings per website and Theme Font will change the size of the menu type itself
Firefox is a highly customizable browser, the menu area can be themed with a persona picture, which is the blue and white type you see.
A lot easier and softer on the eyes than Safari's black and grey (less depressing too)

  • How can I apply an image filter to an entire Applet?

    Hey there,
I was wondering, is it possible to apply an image filter of sorts to an entire applet rather than to images? I'm writing a little game in java for a university project and basically I'm only using functions like drawrect and drawpolygon etc, and I want to apply fairly simple filters like blur etc. Is there any way I can achieve this kind of effect with the draw functions?

You might do better in the 2-D or Swing forums.
I don't have an answer, but it's an intriging problem. Basically you need to get all the components to paint themselves into the graphics context of an offscreen buffer, then apply the transformation, then paint the buffer onto the screen.
(Some hackery must be involved though. For instance blurring, by definition, means that components will have an onscreen appearance outside their bounds. So you are sort of fighting against Swing's painting mechanism - if a portion of your applet, close to but outside the bounds of a particular component, becomes visible that component will have to redraw itself, although Swing won't know that.)

  • Blank Slideshow captions disappear with system font

Anyone know if this has been fixed? Still not working for me in beta 7. Only one of the captions appears when I apply a system font—the rest in the code are set to a width and height of 1 px.

This is a known bug, but we don't have an ETA for a fix at this point. The workaround is to use web safe fonts for now.

You can embed fonts using Adobe Acrobat.
    PDF Pack cannot accomplish this.

There is a similar post just a few away from yours. I will suggest what I would try. Open your job settings file (press or print preferred to get all fonts) and then select the properties and the font tab. At your font to the always embed list and you will likely need to uncheck the subset box. Then save your job settings (give it a name that is meaningful to you, you can not use the settings file you started with as they are read only and I do not recommend changing that). Maybe that will do the job. Of course that is for the creation of the PDF, I forgot you were talking about a form. You might check the form field properties, but I suspect you have already tried that. Guess I don't play with forms enough. Others may be by to answer.

  • How to embed fonts in a pdf file

I have a pdf that has some fonts not embedded. I think that distiller might be able to embed the fonts when I print the pdf file, but it is inconvenient and may not always work. Is there a direct way to embed the fonts in Acrobat? Thanks!
