How to empty junk mailbox?

When I empty junk mail individually using delete or the bar icon, Entourage quits. How can I empty the junk mailbox in one swell foop?
Thanks,

Hi erinsheff
You'll probably be better off posting this on a Microsoft board such as http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage
Good luck.

  • How to reset junk mailbox message count?

Apologies if this is resolved elsewhere, but I can't find it. For the past several months I have received several "ghost" spams per day. (There is nothing in the sender, message header, or body.) The mail filter does not catch them. I wrote a rule (based on a suggestion in this forum) where if "from" does not contain "@" it is sent to junk. It seems to work fine. Since about then - and I'm not sure if the events are simultaneous - my junk mailbox won't reset its count of messages. I have erased all messages in it and SOME are erased, with the count being reduced by 3-4. The total shown next to the mailbox icon continues to grow, however. It is now around 50. There appear to be no messages in the mailbox. This began before I upgraded to Tiger and has continued since then. Mail seems to work fine, but it is very irritating. Thanks for your help.

    Hello Michael.
Assuming this junk mailbox is for a POP type account, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Junk.mbox.
Delete the Junk.mbox folder and empty the Trash.
When re-launching Mail, a new Junk.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when receiving the next message that is automatically or manually marked as junk.

  • How to empty iCloud mailbox without deleting account

I have a Wi-Fi camera that emails me video clips every day. Those emails go into my iCloud mailbox. I've never deleted them and now my iCloud is full and I wanted to make room by deleting all the mail in the iCloud mailbox without deleting the account.  is there any easy way to do this?
    Thank you so much
    George

Open your mail on icloud.com, click each folder on the left (such as your inbox), click on a single message to the right, press Control-A on your keyboard to select them all, then press your Delete key.  Repeat this for each of your mail folders except Trash.  When finished, click on the actions (gear-shaped) icon on the bottom left and select Empty Trash.
Note: this is permanent, and will delete the email from your devices/computers too, so be sure there isn't anything you want to keep.

  • I inadvertently removed the junk mailbox from Mail.app in SL, how can I recreate / restore it ?

    Hi,
Well, the title says it all : I inadvertently removed the junk mailbox from Mail.app in SL,
it still is spresent in my ~/library/mail folder, how can I recreate / restore it in mail.app ?
Since I have a fair number of email accounts, intelligent mailboxes, rules and archive folder, I really don't want to rebuild everything. And, no, I can't use time machine to restore it.
All help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi AdamKB, sorry for late follow-up.
What I lost is the "container" that groups all junk mailboxes in one place in Mail, like is done for all the inboxes.
The problem is that I lost visibility on all junk mailboxes. It is only a visibility problem because the junk mailboxes are still present locally for my POP accounts and remotely for may IMAP accounts, I justdon't see them anymore in Mail's interface.

  • Mail -- How to show a Junk mailbox in a POP account

How to show a Junk mailbox in a POP account
I have two POP accounts on my iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1. The two accounts are identical except for the user name and of course the email address. In one account I have a Junk folder to which incoming messages can be moved. In the other account I have no such mailbox and can't for the life of me figure out how to show one.
The steps to show one should (I think) be as follows, which works in the 'cooperative' account, and also on a second iPhone 5s:
    1) Open Mail.app.
    2) Heading: Mailboxes. Tap 'Edit'.
    3) Scroll down and tap 'Add Mailbox..'
    4) Tap account name.
    5) Tap 'Junk' (checks item).
    6) Tap Done, Done, Done (Junk mailbox appears in Mailbox list, and incoming messages can be moved there.)
The problem in the uncooperative account is that at Step 5, there is no Junk item to check. There are only Sent and Trash. (In the other account there are Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash).
    Solutions or suggestions welcome.

    Hopefully the screenshot will show.

  • How to empty the spam box on Mail

How to empty the "Spam box" on Mail (Mavericks) when the function on the menu bar is grey (instead of black)?

Mail Preferences, Junk Mail. Set it to Move it to the Junk mailbox.
If you don't have the Junk Mail preferences set to move it to the Junk mailbox, then that item will not be active.
If you don't have that set, the spam is likely being moved by your email provider.
If you don't want to change the settings, try selecting all of it in the Junk Mailbox and delete it. That would move it to Trash, I think. However, I don't have any junk email at the moment to try that.

  • Junk "mailbox" keeps appearing in Mac Mail 3.6 (OSX 10.5.8) Any ideas???

Hello all. I am a MobileMe user, synced mail between 2 macs, iPhone, & iPad. In my Mac Mail prefs I have I DO NOT have junk mail filtering checked, I want everything (spam or not) to go to my inbox. There is no junk mail brown paper bag icon on my sidebar. The problem is every once and a while an email will come through and there will then be a folder(mailbox) created called "junk" and that email will show up in that mailbox, that I did not create. I can read the mail, delete it, or do whatever I need to do with it, then delete this "junk" mailbox from my sidebar, but then it might happen again the following week, or not for several months.
Kinda frustrating since it should be set up to put everything in my inbox regardless of sender. Why does my system automatically create this mailbox?
Again there is no brown paper bag on my sidebar, Mac Mail just creates this junk mailbox that shows up right along with my other .mac mailboxes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Steve

This happens to me too, usually only when I log into my mobileme account via a web browser (which I rarely do), but just a few minutes ago it happened spontaneously when Apple thought some legit mail was junk.
I also sync between two macs and an iPhone (no iPad), and I have junk mail turned off wherever possible (can't find a "turn off junk" option on the iPhone). One other thing, along with a junk folder, I also get a deleted messages and a drafts folder. After checking to make sure they are all empty, I just delete them on whichever mac I am using.
Looks like there is a bug in Apple's software where in some cases they ignore the settings in preferences, then they see that there are not folders that they deem are necessary so they create them for you.
I've tried a few different ideas on how to deal with this, mostly by turning on junk mail and making some rules to put everything in my inbox, but none of them worked well. I think we'll just have to live with this bug. I've seen lots of postings on problems with junk mail for years now, and Apple doesn't seem to be doing anything about it.

  • Getting Mail to stop putting everything in the 'junk' mailbox

I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard several months ago and ever since then, Mail puts some incoming mail in the junk mailbox, even though it isn't junk, or marked as junk. I've tried moving the 'not junk' mail to it's proper account folder, but the next piece of mail that comes from that addressee (usually from support forums and other email alerts) still goes into the junk mailbox. Iirc, in Tiger one could move the mail mistakenly sent to the junk folder from junk to it's proper place and Mail would 'learn' to send it there instead.
Is there a Preference that got changed when I upgraded or something, and if so, what is it? About half my mail is now ending up in the junk box.

To answer your first question, yes, I have enable junk mail filtering on.
I'll try turning that off first.
Edit: I tried that, but it removed the junk icons attached to the 3 pieces of actual junk mail. I have 28 pieces of email that Mail put in the junk folder. 3 of them are junk and marked accordingly. None of the rest are marked as junk and shouldn't be there, so how do I create a filter telling Mail that mail not marked as junk not be put in the junk folder?
I also have the following marked in the junk mail part of Mail's preferences:
    When junk mail arrives:
Move it to the junk mailbox
The following types of messages are exempt from junk mail filtering:
Sender of message is in my Address Book
Sender of message is in my Previous Recipients

  • How to unmark junk mail in mail 5.1?

I am unable to find a way to unmark mail as junk in Mail 5.1 (OS X Lion).  In previous versions of Mail, there were obvious ways to do this.
Can someone tell me how to do this?

Aha.   I reset the junk mail under Mail->Preferences->Junk Mail,  and the behavior changed.  Now the menu item and toolbar button act as toggles, whereas they did not before the reset.
BUT:  junk mail handling gives us a choice between a)  moving junk mail to the junk mailbox  or b)  marking it as junk but leaving it in the inbox.   Now I don't see a way to make it do both,  even through the custom handling option.
Why do I want it to do both?   I want to make sure the the filter is learning what I think  is junk and what I think is is not, and I want the junk out of the way.

  • Junk Mailbox in Mail 6.5

Don't know when or how this happened, but I can no longer access the contents of the Junk mailbox. There's no command or button anywhere in the current interface for access. There remains just the "thumb down" icon next to the trash icon. I know the Junk mailbox has at least one item because a recent search revealed one item located in Junk.
    Appreciated.

    You can try this.

  • Mailbox behaviors: Erase messages in the junk mailbox

For each of my POP accounts, I have the Mailbox behaviors setting for junk mail set to "erase messages in the junk mailbox when one day old." This works fine for any mail which the mail filter catches and sends to the junk mailbox. However, many junk e-mails are not caught, so I click on the "Junk" button, to designate those e-mails as junk. At that time, they automatically move to the Junk mailbox. But within the junk mailbox are sub-boxes for each of my POP accounts, and another sub-box called "On my Mac." That's where the e-mails end up that I mark as junk, and they remain there forever. How do I tell Mail to automatically erase that junk mail after one day (or on whatever schedule I desire)?
    iMac PowerMac 6,1 CPU: PowerPC G4 (3.3) Mac OS X (10.4.8) Mail v2.1
    466 MHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Well, the Mailbox Behaviors settings are specific for each account, and the On My Mac Junk mailbox isn’t associated with any mail account, so there appears to be no way to specify such setting for that particular mailbox.
The thing is, the whole situation you’re describing doesn’t really make sense. If those messages end up in the On My Mac Junk mailbox, that means you’re manually marking them as junk after they’ve been moved to a custom “On My Mac” mailbox, which makes me believe what’s really happening here is not that many messages aren’t caught by the junk filter. What appears to be happening is that you have custom rules that prevent the junk filter from being able to catch them...

  • Empty junk folder in iOS 8

In iOS8 on iPhone 6, I have 3 email accounts, 1 Gmail, 1 icloud, and one through my own domain. I am not able to quickly (in one step) empty the junk mailbox on the account from my domain. "Select all" > delete is what I'm looking for but it's not available. Only options are "mark all (read our unread)" and flag which don't help. Has anyone found a solution to this poorly planned omission?

Solved this issue with the help of Sean from Apple – thanks Sean!
I had mistakenly set up this email account on my computer as a POP account instead of an IMAP account. Since I never use POP accounts, it didn't occur to me to check this until I had talked with Sean who suggested that something didn't seem right with the account setup. Changing the account to IMAP still doesn't give a "Select All", "Delete All" option in the folder on my phone, but now the folder is synced to my email account on my computer and deletes messages on the phone when they are deleted on the computer. I suspect that the other preferences, like "Delete in one day" etc. will also work now.
Another thing to be aware of is that this seems to be an issue with accounts that are not icloud or gmail accounts and so it's possible to login to your 3rd party email account and use the mail interface there to edit the contents of folders like the Junk folder. Probably best to get your email account settings set up correctly, but in the mean time, this is a way to delete messages from a burgeoning folder.
Apologies to Apple for the "poorly planned omission" comment above. (I hate it when I do that!)

  • Auto Delete From "On My Mac" Trash and Junk Mailboxes?

I have three pop accounts set up. I have set the prefs for each account to autodelete trash and junk messages older than one week. This works.
However, when I delete a message from a folder I manually created, Mail moves it to an "On My Mac" trash folder. If I mark a message as junk from a folder I manually created, it is moved to an "On My Mac" junk folder. These "On My Mac" trash and junk folders do not autodelete the messages. I cannot find a preference to set an autodelete option for "On My Mac" trash and junk mailboxes.
Is there anyway to do this? Am I missing something?
    Thanks

AFAIK, that’s how it works and you aren’t missing anything. The Mailbox Behaviors settings are account-specific and there is no way to specify those settings for “On My Mac” mailboxes... except I have my accounts set to erase messages in the Trash when quitting Mail, and my “On My Mac” Trash does the same...

  • Warning before emptying junk mail folder

I am not sure if this option is disabled by default in the latest Thunderbird(31.4.0) but I used to get a warning popup asking if I am sure I want to empty the junk mail folder.
How do I enable the popup warning before emptying junk mail folder.
    Thanks in advance.

'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab
    * click on 'Config Editor' button
It will tell you to be careful :)
    * In top search type: junk
    * look for this line: mailnews.emptyJunk.dontAskAgain; Value = true
    * double click on that line to toggle the 'True' to 'False'
    * close window - top right X
    * Click on 'OK'
