How to empty library file???

I posted this earlier but my question wasn't answered and I am at the point that new TV shows I purchase and new music won't even save. I have my settings saving everything to my external hard drive but they still don't show up in my itunes although they do show up on the external drive.
I get this message: I keep getting this error: The itunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full.
How do I fix this? I've gone through all the help topics and the tabs and I'm stumped. Thanks!

Can I change the library file to point to my external hard drive somehow? I have deleted almost everything off of C and still can't seem to get it to work. I'd like to just take the library file off of C if that is possible?

    Hi
    The app Leopard Cache Cleaner has a command which will sort this out. Download from http://www.northernsoftworks.com/leopardcachecleaner.html
    It's shareware but will work in demo mode for a long time - certainly long enough to sort out this problem.

  • How to empty stubborn files from the trash

    My wife's Macbook Pro running ML 10.8.2 gets a spinning beach ball when trying to delete the trash. I have tried the following:
    1) Empty Trash; 2) Securely Empty Trash; 3) delete trash using Terminal (sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash). Nothing has worked.
    Things must be different in 10.8.2
    Thanks for your help.

    Note on #3, that's not what you want to do.  In fact, that's a REALLY BAD IDEA as you're deleting the trash itself.  Often when you do that, you can no longer move anything to the trash, because the trash folder itself doesn't exist.
    I would open a terminal window and type this:
    cd ~/.Trash
    (note if that doesn't work, you have a problem as you don't HAVE a trash).
    rm -rf ./*
    YOU NEED TO PASTE THAT OR TYPE IT EXTREMELY CAREFULLY.  It will delete everything in the current folder, which will be the .Trash folder if the previous command completed.
    You can try sudo rm -rf ./* as well from the same folder, subject to the same precautions.
    Also note: If you have stubborn files, it may be because a process is hanging onto them.  I'd actually suggest rebooting first, and then trying to just empty the trash.
    If you don't have a ~/.Trash folder, you can recreate it, but it may not have the right permissions and you may have long term problems with deleting stuff properly because of this.  I'm not sure of the exact permission you need on the Trash folder for this to work properly.

  • How to empty deleted files?

    I want to delete some files,first I use X window to move to recycle,but it pop a windows,"no disk space",then I delete some files by using command #rm -r database , but I find my total free disk space don't change. Why? How to do it? Thanks

    Hi.
    1) If You delete open files, free space will not increase while this files will not close. It may be problem find what process was open file after file was removed. Reboot may resolve this problem
    2) If file have hard links, free space will not increase, becouse file realy not removed. Removed only one link.
    3) For some file result for ls -l and du -ks may be different.
    ( File with hole). So delete this file may not free space as you expected.
    Regards.

  • FCPX 10.1 : how to backup the library file (with LaCie SilverKeeper or other backup software)

    Hello... I was using FCPX with an external hard drive (A) with all "events" end "projects" folders.
    Then, on a regular basis, I was copying hard drive (A) content to another hard drive (B) using LaCie SilverKeeper. All new or modified content in these folders was copied. With the new 10.1 version, no more folders but a "library" file which is not recognized by SilverKeeper.
    So how to backup library files without starting a new copy each time ?

    Thank you for your input, nevertheless, I may have miss something but I am used to work with all my media on an external HD.
    Then, on a regular basis, say each time I have an important editing step, I backup this external HD to another external HD.
    With FCPX, I have chosen to integrate new media in the new library file. Consequently, these media files are not in folders, but inside the FCPX file.
    The problem is that when I want to backup all this (including media files inside FCPX library) this library is not recognized by backup software.

  • Missing library file

    I did some housekeeping and deleted what I thought were some undesired packages from my Netbeans_projects folder. I now find that Netbeans 5.0 can't find "JavaLibrary3" when I try to open two (only two) of my many several packages. I searched my drive and supposedly it resides now only in the \dist subfolder. I can run the .JAR file stored there but where could the library file be? If I trashed it how can the .JAR file run?
    How could this library file have existed in my tree outside the project folder? Any hints on how to "restore" the library file if in fact it did get accidentally trashed?

    Open an SR at metalink and ask for it.

  • Lost library file, how to re-setup?

    My internal drive died, which is where my library file seems to have been. My media folder was on an external drive. So, I have all of my stuff, but am wondering what the best way to set up a new library would be. I realize I've lost all my playlists and counts and such. I can live with that. But I don't want to have to create a new folder and copy over 300+ GB of stuff. Any thoughts?

    There 's a certain amount you can do if you have a backup of your library files, or an old iTunes library.

    iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
    You can start iTunes, let it create a new, blank library file.  Configure it to save media to its current location on the external drive.  Drag a few files to the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder as a test.  Since the media foler location is on the external drive hopefully it won't try to copy to the external just to put it back on the external drive and hopefully it won't even try to move them on the external drive if they are in the correct structure already from the previous library.   If it seems to work properly then proceed with the rest (maybe don't do all 300GB in one go).  I don't use your version of iTunes, nor do I have your setup so I can't test this.

  • Library file is full..How can I fix this?

    I keep getting this error: The itunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full.
    How can I fix this? I bought a bunch of tv shows and none of them are showing up and I think it is because of this library file. I have moved all my itunes files to an external hard drive and still it won't let me do much of anything. Thanks for your help.

    Cut and paste is not recommended, since something can go wrong midstream. It is better to copy the files to their new location on the external drive. Then, make sure they copied successfully. Then make sure they are deleted from their original location. Then empty your recycle bin.

  • HOW CAN I USE ONE OF MY "PREVIOUS ITUNES LIBRARY" FILES?!

    Sorry about the caps lock. I searched for thsi question and got like 10 good results, none of which had answers. iTunes asked me to choose a pervious iTunes library before, but how do I do it now?!

    you can hold shift when starting iTunes to force it to ask you to create a new or select an existing library file.

  • How to delete multiple old ITUNES LIBRARY files safely ?

    I'd like to clean up my Itunes LIBRARY files, but don't know what's safe to do and not to do. (I have Itunes 8.1 / OSX10.4.11)
    MY QUESTION IS TWOFOLD :
    (1) how do I create a new Itunes library file now with today's date; and
    (2) how do I delete multiple (old) Itunes library files, without risking the loss of what I've got ?
    This all stems from exploring Itunes as a result of a problem I had today... when trying to import mp3's from my terrabyte drive, after about 150 successful mp3 track imports, Itunes froze and everything else on my MAC froze as well (constant spinning colored wheel). After many failed attempts to force quit Itunes, I turned off my MBPro. On restarting, Itunes tooks ages to "import" files. Eventually Itunes opened but with only half of my original tunes (1500+ songs 8.11GB) and had nothing from today's import.
    I found a post suggesting to hold down OPTION while starting Itunes. Then I selected a file from my hard drive > me > music > Itunes > "Itune library" with the most recent date and shezam, Itunes once again has all my songs, as before. Nothing I imported from the terrabyte drive today appears however, but no matter.
    In my "Itunes" file there appear MULTIPLE Itunes libraries ! such as Itunes library, Itunes Library (damaged), and as well a folder called "Previous Itunes Libraries" which itself contains multiple Itunes Library files and multiple "previous Itunes Library files" with dates back to 2007. These I want to clean up and delete .... should I ? ... Can I ?
    I really could use some words of wisdom from the wise ! Thanks in advance

    Whenever you install a new version of iTunes and run it teh first time, iTunes will create a backup of the current iTunes library file and copy it into \Music\iTunes\Previous iTunes libraries, then update the iTunes library file in \Music\iTunes\ for the current version of iTunes.

  • How to Load 2 library files using System.loadLibrary in one .java file!!!

    Hello,
    Someone please help me. What I am trying to do is load two .DLL files in my program. Program works fine when I
    do the following way i.e. I have two .java files and in each I am loading one .DLL file. But I don't want to have
    two .java files I want to load both the .DLL files in one program.
    **************** Example.java **********
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class Example
    public native int A(String in);
    static
    System.loadLibrary( "API2" );
    public static void main( String args[])
         Ex ex = new Ex();
         int r;
         r = ex.A("TEST");
    public Example()
    *****************Ex.java*****************
    public class exsysml
    public native int A(String in);
    public exsysml()
    System.loadLibrary("API3");
    The above way works. But I need only one .java file to load both the .DLL files. i.e.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class Example
    public native int A(String in);
    static
    System.loadLibrary( "API2" );
    System.loadLibrary( "API3" );
    public static void main( String args[])
         Example ex = new Example();
         int r;
         r = ex.A("TEST");
    public Example()
    but when I do this way it doesn't work and I get a UnSatisfiedLinkage Error at ex.A("TEST"). While doing the top way it works.
    How can I fix this to just have one .java file and load both the library files as done in the bottom program but doing this program doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    what I figured out so far is that we can only load one library file in a single class and define all the native methods present in that library in the class where we are loading it. Means we can't load multiple library files in a single class. It's just my thought else if someone provides a better solution. I may be wrong so that's why I need your help.
    Thanks

  • How to duplicate an iTunes Match Library File

    I had a 2007 iMac and used an external hard drive to store all my music, as I have over 9000 songs and I use AIFF and/or Lossless compression for audio purpuses.  All my playlists, etc, were set up exactly the way I wanted them.  I also subscribed to iTunesMatch, which backed up all my files and playlists exactly the way they were on the computer, but at 256kbps vs lossess.  Last month, my iMac finally died and now I'm using my MacBook Air.  All the songs and playlists show up when running iTunesMatch, but all those songs are held "in the cloud" and at 256kbps vs AIFF.  I tried the "Depress and hold the option keyu and launch iTunes" option to choose my iTunes Library, and found my externally stored hard drive music files. However, when I select that folder, it states "An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder "Music".  Please choose a different folder".
    How can I recreate my iTunes playlist so that the MacBook Air is reading from the harddrive, but playing the playlists as organized by iTunesMatch?

    You're need to contact iTunes Store support directly to request a refund.

  • How can I locate my iTunes library files. When I click on my itunes icon the message appears, "The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be found because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

    How can I locate my iTunes library files?  When I click on my iTunes icon rather than my iTunes files I receive, " The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  I have already tried to update my iTunes program.

    Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
    You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

  • How do I restore an iTunes library file?

    I recently recovered my music (which I thought was lost) back into iTunes. However it hasn't restored my personal song settings (volume adjustments, start/stop times etc). I have found a folder "Previous iTunes libraries" which contains a recent library file consisting of the data I want to restore. Does anyone know how I get this info back into iTunes? I've tried the "add file/folder..." options but it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help?

    Get it out of the *Previous Itunes Libraries* folder and use these directions to open it.
