How to: enable 3D acceleration for Savage IX/MV graphic cards

I'm trying out Arch Linux and this my first post on this forum. Here is my solution for a hardware configuration issue. This was also posted on the Ubuntu forums.

Satellite Pro 4280 laptops come with a S3 Savage IX/MV graphics card with 8MB onboard ram - not enough for 24 bit 3D acceleration. These use the xf86-video-savage driver. To enable 3D acceleration, you need to reduce the colour depth to 16 bit but the X auto configuration defaults to 24 bit.
To get round this I created a Xorg.conf using the command 'Xorg -configure' and then 'cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf' (following the Arch Linux beginners guide).
After hours of google searches and repeated attempts to modify the Xorg.conf to set the colour depth to 16, I finally stumbled upon the required modification:

Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultColorDepth 16
SubSection "Display"

Adding DefaultColorDepth 16 at that point in the Xorg.conf worked. Ran X and no errors occured in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the DRI [3D acceleration] was enabled.
Those xorg.conf files are a nightmare: I don't understand how X can have varying xorg.conf layouts/instructions/commands between graphics cards. It was by trial and error I got this to work.
I've yet to actually test out the 3D acceleration as I'm still installing programs to my Arch Linux. I'll probably try out a screen saver that uses openGL.

I can now get a good 400fps if I run glxgears as root.
For my attempt to get 3D acceleration to work for users, I ammended the xorg.conf to include Section "DRI" and Group "video" [see the xorg.conf link below]. I included video to the user's group but the glxgears fps remained at 40fps. [*update* after a restart or something, it finally decided to give 400fps as user! , the configuration files below remain unchanged]

There are some error messages not found in the above logs that are posted on the screen when I quit openbox:
error setting MTRR (base = 0xf0000000, size = 0x00800000, type = 1) Inappropriate ioctl for device (25)
ERROR: xdg-autostart requires PyXDG to be installed

It does work, however I discovered more?important conditions. You MUST have your audio card in game mode BEFORE you do this. The reason is that the alchemy file passes the audio to OpenAL in game mode only. IF YOU TRY TO RUN GAMES IN ANY OTHER MODE YOUR SYSTEM WILL CRASH WITH BSD. IF YOU TRY TO RUN MEDIA PLAYER IT WILL HANG. IF YOU RUN DIRECTX DIAGNOSTIC YOUR SYSTEM WILL CRASH WITH BSD. YOUR?CARD MUST BE IN GAME MODE. IF YOU TRY TO CHANGE TO GAME MODE AFTER THE SWITCH, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO AS THE AUDIO PANEL WON'T LOAD. DO IT BEFORE YOU SWITCH. As for windows replacing files after reboot, that aint happening to me. I've looked everywhere and can't find any sign of?were replacement files would come form either. Not that I'm saying it isn't happening, Vista is supposed to have a security system that stops you from replacing core system files. It just ain't happening in my system. However, I do have various system hacks in place and one of them may be stopping this. Need to look in to this. Fact:- I'm sitting with this in system now ( got no intentions of going back cause the audio's great ). I've tested 0 up-to date games and all give EAX etc. Without transmutation. Audio sounds amazing compared to what it was before and video audio finely plays in sync ( hurray). How to Enable Hardware Acceleration in FireFox 31

Please advise how to enable hardware acceleration in FireFox 31. All my graphics and other hardware/software is current and updated. I've also paired my Bookmark Toolbar down to under 20 entries.
FireFox is so sluggish that just a few open tabs cause the pausing "wheel of doom" every time I try to enter information or go to another part of the website. Sometimes the pauses are 5-10 seconds, sometimes a minute or more.
I do not have this issue on the other browsers that I use.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

I am trying to figure out how to enable remote debugging for a session other than the one I am currently using.
More specifically, we have an application that is making database calls to Oracle 11gR2. Something is causing an exception during this invocation. My system is currently not set up to recompile said application, so I can't just add the debug call to the code and recompile. Therefore I would like to be able to log into the database (as sys, if necessary) and invoke dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp on the desired session.
The docs indicate that I should be able to do so:

I've tried granting the 'BECOME USER' privilege for the relevant users, but that didn't help. I read something about having to set some kind of ACL as of 11gR1, but the reference documentation was very confusing.
Would someone be able to point me in the right direction? Is this even possible, or did I misread the documentation?

Interesting deduction, that would be very useful indeed. I hate recompiling just to add the debug call, and it can't be done in our production environment. But it seems unlikely to me it would be implemented this way.
I would cross-post this in the SQL AND PL/SQL forum though, as this is really a database issue, not with the SQL Developer tool. Do add the links to the other posts in each.

You can only set up a Gmail account as an Exchange account if you have a paid account. Google dropped Exchange support for free accounts two years ago. That link is just a bit outdated.

As the author of this post How do I enable hardware acceleration in an air exe? , I am trying to enable hardware acceleration inside my AIR application
If the user has disabled hardware acceleration in his flash player's settings, context3d.driverInfo will say "Hw_disabled=userDisabled"
His only way to re-enable it is to open Internet Explorer or Firefox and right click on a flash content, then check "Enable hardware acceleration"
I (we) would like to be allowed to re-enable it directly inside the AIR app (via actionscript code) and not telling the user to open a browser and check some random checkboxes (cause you know it's not very user-friendly...)
A bug has been opened here Bug#3843535 - Disabling Hardware Acceleration in IE flash plugin disables it in AIR EXEs and is marked as fixed but nothing is fixed : there's still no way to enable hardware acceleration in desktop AIR application

I have designed infopath form and published it into the document library. I want to provide signature option on the browser enabled infopath form.
I have created it using secion and digital signature control.
but I am getting this message.
When i click on Yes . I get following screen.
And it just hang here. I have enabled the active x control feature for IE.
Please tell me where i should install this component and how it can be done?
I have access only to the sharepoint site.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to enable digital signature for browser enabled infopath form.
To be able to sign this form, you need to activate two Windows Internet Explorer add-ons. Click the Information Bar in the dialog box, and then click Run ActiveX control to activate each add-on.
Then you need to active the following add-on.
In my environment, after I click the Next button, it open the picture as below.
Once I click the link to add the add-on as above, everthing works well.

I have a Mac Pro 3, 1 (early 2008) and was wondering if the system supports staggered spin-up. I have four 7200.12 Barracudas in the drive bays and use them for software strip volume via SoftRAID.
If the system does support staggered spin-up, how can I enable it. I was previous user of Bios operated hardware, (PC user is misleading :-p) so I am not familiar on how to enable those options on Macs.

Unless SoftRAID does something, but there ARE disk drives that by themselves will I am pretty sure, whether it also depends on the controller, not sure.
I know some external RAIDs used drives that did (Maxtor had) and sometimes a disk wasn't ready on time. And tweaking the driver or firmware for the controller can help.
On a PC you can add a delay in the BIOS to wait, yes.
The whole idea is so that you aren't requesting 4-5 drives pulling the amps/watts needed at once making it lighter load on PSU.
Is there a problem? have you asked the excellent, quick and helpfull SoftRAID support? or just "curiosity?"
