How to enable 5GHz mode in Time Capsule

Hi,
does anybody know how can I enable 5 GHZ mode in Apple Time Capsule? Should I create separate 5 GHZ network with separate SSID name or is it automatically enabled under the same name after standard configuration? Suppose I have configured "Apple1" network just after Time Capsule first configuration. Is "Apple1" both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ which uses the same SSID name and switches automatically depeneding on the device and supported mode? The reason for it is that I'm looking for the best possible network transfers when backing up wirelessly on my Time Capsule and there are a lot of neighbourhood networks operating on 2.4 GHZ
Thanks in advance,
Aleksander

How to enable 5 GHz mode....
Both 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz bands are always enabled. You cannot turn one "off" and another "on".
Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are broadcast using the same wireless network name when the Time Capsule is using default settings.
This is the best choice for most users, since wireless devices will automatically connect to either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz signal based on their capability and location in relation to the Time Capsule.
For example, iPhones cannot connect to a 5 GHz network, so they will always connect at 2.4 GHz.
A newer Mac laptop will connect at 5 GHz if it is in close proximity to the wireless router, but it will switch to 2.4 GHz once it moves several rooms away....because 2.4 GHz signals are stronger than 5 GHz signals.
You do have the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. If you do this, you can "point" wireless devices to that specific network to connect.  But....this is no guarantee that that they will be connecting to the best signal.
Once the laptop is a few rooms away, the 2.4 GHz signal might well be not only stronger...but also faster.  If the laptop is "locked" onto the 5 GHz signal, it does not transfer data as quickly as it could using 2.4 GHz when it is not close to the router.
The bottom line for most users would be to leave the settings in default mode and let devices automatically choose and connect to the best signal quality. Isn't that what you want?

  • How to enable wireless use of Time Capsule

I have already configured it and as long as its plugged in ethernet I can backup from either of my computers.
The problem is I want to use it wirelessly from now on for the small hourly/daily backups.
Can someone please let me know how to adjust the settings for this?
Im so lost its taken me multiple resets to even get this far (had touble getting it onto my own network originally).
    Thanks

and it still doesnt pick up the time capsule as a device on the network once it has been unplugged.
By "unplugged", if you mean that your Time Capsule was setup and configured with an Ethernet cable connecting it and your modem/router......then that Ethernet cable must remain permanently connected to your modem/router.
Please review your Time Capsule Setup Guide to confirm that the Time Capsule must be connected using an Ethernet cable from your modem.
If you need to locate the Time Capsule in a different area, an Ethernet cable can be run up to 330 feet or 100 meters with virtually no loss, so you should be able to locate the Time Capsule wherever you want.

  • How is easy is to setup Time Capsule as a wifi router

How easy is it to setup Time Capsule as a wifi router?

The following would be the basic setup steps for the Time Capsule (TC):

Are you using a v6 uitlity.. because it is a toy.. ??
Get v5 utility and then you can hold down the option key and select the right mode.
If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

These options might be dangerous. If someone who knew nothing about the program with this function and he uses this program, it might hurt his system. Since this, it would be better not to post this code in the forum to avoid someone tried the code and hurt
    his system.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • How to connect Brother HL2270DW to Time Capsule wi-fi

How to connect Brother HL2270DW to Time Capsule wi-fi?

    Well,
    1. tried (vide setup manual for the printer) letting the printer find the wi-fi:
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us_ot/en/faq/faq/000000/00200 0/000037/faq002037_011.html?reg=us&c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=hl2270dw_all#ForMac
    Didn't work.
    2. Then discovered, by clicking around, under Airport utility > Base station > Add WPS Printer that
"There are two ways you can allow a WPS printer to join your password-protected network without entering a password. You can either enter a PIN for the printer, or allow access to the first printer that attempts to join you network.
Before trying either, brought the printer physically close with the Time Capsule (within 2 meters)
Tried the "First attempt" option first. Failed.
Then, miraculously, out of the printer came a sheet with a 8 digit PIN code on it. Which enabled trying the 2nd option "Allow WPS printer by: PIN".
Entered PIN and Continue, but to no awail.
Final attempt was made by connecting the printer to the USB port of the T.C. That generated a fresh printout with another 8-digit PIN. Which was duly entered, again with no result.
Am at my wits end. Anything else that could make the twain meet and restore normalcy in this all too Apple-dependent house?

  • How do I set up my Time Capsule as backup HD only.

How do I set up my Time Capsule to act as back up external Hard Drive only?  When I connect to my current network it slows down transfers between my 3 HD Tivos set up on my network to a crawl!  I don't want it connected to my network!

    Bridge the TC.
First of all download and use the real utility if you haven't already. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Open utility.. go to manual setup..
In the TC setup go to internet tab..
Down the page find connection sharing.
    Select off bridge mode.
    Update the TC.
The TC now is a client in the network and will act as a HDD.
Wireless is up to you.. but it should not slow the connection. Certainly you can turn it off completely.

  • How to make PPPoE work with Time Capsule?

I'm trying to connect a Time Capsule to an ADSL broadband connection using a Thompson Speedtouch 510v6 modem in bridged mode.
After selecting PPPoE, setting the userid and password in the Time Capsule and restarting, the Time Capsule shows a yellow light and says that it cannot find a PPPoE server.
If I connect the modem directly to my Mac, I am able to successfully establish the PPPoE connection, so I know that the modem, ADSL link, userid and password work. The Time Capsule also works fine if it is configured to use an IP connection to a router, as opposed to a PPPoE connection to a bridge.
Any hints about what the problem may be? I have no idea how to even begin debugging this.
A related question: Is there a way to get IP connectivity to the bridge device when it is connected to the Time Capsule in PPPoE mode? You would think that in PPPoE mode, the Time Capsule should treat the WAN port as just another hub port for the purpose of IP connectivity, but that does not seem to happen. With IP connectivity I could check the status of the bridge from any computer connected to the Time Capsule, which could possibly help me diagnose the problem.

There should only be one device setup to provide the PPPoE service for your network. If you have the Time Capsule setup to do this, you must make sure that your computer is no longer trying to do the same thing at the same time. In other words,,you need to delete or at least make the PPPoE connection not active on your computer.
If you are using Leopard or Snow Leopard on your computer, click the System Preferences icon and then click Network. Look for a PPPoE connection that displays your user name and password. Makes sure that this is not active. You would only want the PPPoE connection on your computer active when your computer is connected directly to the modem. If the Time Capsule is connected to the modem, you must turn off PPPoE on your computer.
Then power off your network. Start the modem first, then the Time Capsule and then your computers.

  • How do i set up my time capsule wifi for many users

    hello ..
    i have problem.. as always
my time capsule is connected to dsl modem (off(bridge mode)), in modem we can get only 10 ip adresses and no more. so when there are 10 pc connected to our wifi, no more can connect.... how can i set up my time capsule, so more people can join our wifi...? is it even possible?
    P.S.
    1) to our wifi is connected printer, so everybody can print...
    2) every pc uses time capsule as bacup place in time machine.
    tnx

You often see this limit of 10 clients in wireless hotspots but I have yet to see it in an adsl modem.. most strange way to pay for a service that is really irrelevant how many clients you use.
Have a go .. I recently setup a TC to help a guy run his Roku.. and this setup worked well.. I have no idea if it can work in your case.
Lets say the IP you get is 192.168.2.1-10 .. doesn't matter what it really is. And the adsl modem is 192.168.2.254
(Assuming they are private addresses.. if they are public IP you can just use the DHCP and NAT. )
But go to the airport utility.. I think you need to run v5 at least to change DNS.. but you can do the same thing in v6 using static but no dns changes.
Now you set the IP of the TC manually.. This address might need to be in the dhcp range of the modem to work. You can set the DNS to same IP as the router address.. ie home address of the modem. Or you can use another DNS.. whatever you like.
Then set DHCP for clients that will join.. this can then expand the scope of addresses..
It worked without a NAT error.. although I am not sure exactly how.. on paper it should not be able to work but did.. have a go.. otherwise there is perhaps another way.. but it is complicated.
Give us an example from a computer plugged into the modem of what IP .. subnet mask .. Gateway and DNS you get. Then I can fine tune the values for it.

  • How do I connect an old Time Capsule to look for data from a previous OS?

Hello. I replaced my old Time Capsule with a new one a few months ago, and broke in the new Time Capsule with a fresh backup of a clean 10.9 install after migrating my user account.
Today, I noticed that there were some folders full of personal data that are neither on my MBP, nor in my Time Machine backups on the new Time Capsule. I am hoping that these folders still exist on my old Time Capsule which I used with 10.8.
I'm wondering how to search through my old Time Capsule and its Time Machine backups. Specifically, I'm wondering how to connect it to my MacBook Pro, and whether I will be able to search for my (hopefully not) lost data through the Time Machine interface, or through the directory structure contained in Backups.backupdb.
Can anyone help me out with a plan to proceed?
    Thank you very much.

    1. Turn off Time Machine in System Preferences
    2. Unplug new Time Capsule
    3. Turn off Wi-Fi in the menu bar
    4. Attach old Time Capsule to power
    5. Attach old Time Capsule to MBP via ethernet
    6. Wait for old Time Capsule to appear in Finder > Sidebar > Shared
    7. Select old Time Capsule in Finder > Sidebar > Shared and Connect to old Time Capsule
    8. Select the Data directory
    9. Double-click on the .sparsebundle file that represents the volume that was backed up on the old Time Capsule
    10. Hold down the option key and click on the Time Machine icon in the menu bar and select Browse Other Backup Disks...
    11. Select the Time Machine backup disk you would like to browse and choose Use Selected Disk
    12. Browse old Time Capsule backup in Time Machine environment, restore data as normal, exit Time Machine as normal
    13. Eject old Time Machine backups (the .sparsebundle you mounted) under Devices in Finder > Sidebar
    14. Eject old Time Capsule under Finder > Sidebar > Shared
    15. Disconnect ethernet; disconnect old Time Capsule from power.
    16. Plug in new Time Capsule (it boots); turn Wi-Fi on (reconnect to network, if necessary); turn Time Machine back on in System Preferences

  • How can i use the airport time capsule as a external hard drive?

how can i use the airport time capsule as a external hard drive?

Why do you recommend not place things like iTunes libraries or photo libraries on the drive? It was what I am looking for...
I suggest that you ask the experts over in the iPhoto Support Community about their opinions on placing an iPhoto or Aperture library on the Time Capsule....even if you plan to use a wired connection for your Mac and the Time Capsule.
But, if Terrence Devlin answers, be prepared for a lecture about why you should not ever do this.
If you place the iTunes library on the Time Capsule, be prepared for iTunes to give you messages about not being able to find the library.
In addtion, LaPastenague has the answer for you in a nutshell......corruption problems.
Bottom line....the Time Capsule is for your backups.....not "everyday" files and especially not libraries.

How do I set up my time capsule to operate as a wireless hub when it is not plugged into the internet?  I want to be able to share wirelessly the information on the time capsule. thanks!

I would prefer to answer in your post. as I have tried on two occasions to help.. so far this is the first time I can see you stated  you are using Lion.
    1. Did you download and install the 5.6 utility..?
I said to do it.. you never said yes.. I did that.
Please do it. .. you will get no place before you do.
    2. Did you bridge the TC.. ?
If so it will work perfectly.. please post a screen shot of the summary page from the 5.6 utility. If something is wrong I can work it out from there.
    3. Or ring apple support and get them to walk you through the setup.. there should be phone support for the first week or two.

  • How can I set up a time capsule to extend my wifi network from a non-apple Medialink MWN-WAPR300N?

I just purchased a new Medialink MWN-WAPR300N from Amazon to replace my old 2008 500 GB Time Capsule.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use my old Time Capsule to extend the network from the Medialink router to the rooms in the back of my house. Would this be possible? How about if I use the Time Capsule as the primary point, and use the Medialink router to extend the network?
    Thanks!

The Time Capsule would not be compatible with a Medialink product if you are thinking of trying to use the Time Capsule to extend the Medialink network using wireless only.
The same would be true if the Time Capsule were the primary router, and you tried to use the Medialink product to extend the Time Capsule network wirelessly.
If you can connect the two devices together using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, then you should be able to accomplish your goal.
