How to "Enable Disk Use"

Does anyone know how to "Enable Disk Use" on the iTouch?
Thanks

As Jolly said, you can't.
But free apps like Discover give you similar functionality.

  • How to enable disk use without losing music?

I am trying to enable disk use on my iPod, but I already have it set to manually managing music and videos. I want to upload music to my iTunes account because it was downloaded to my iPod from a different computer than I have now, and I don't want to lose it. How do I do this? (My iPod is an iPod touch 4th Generation)

Sorry but iPod Touches never had a disk mode.  There are app like USB Disk that allow loading files on the iPod Touch.

  • How to enable disk use on an iPod in "recovery mode"?

I am trying to enable disk use on my iPod classic 80GB to recover lost files. One day out of the blue, 12 days worth of music vanished from my iPod, and as my laptop that stored all of my music was stolen a few months earlier, I need to manually recover the files by first enabling disk use (at least according to the various tutorials I have read online).  There should be a box you can check or uncheck in the summary of the iPod when it's plugged in, but on my iTunes, all it shows in the summary is "iPod recovery mode" and underneath a "Restore iPod button".  Is the "enable disk use" option not available because it is in recovery mode or am I just missing something?

    AFAIK this is the case...
You may want to check here...

  • WRT600N - how to enable disk use?

I have the WRT600N but no matter what USB disk (a 20GB removable drive and an assortment of flash keys) I plug-in , it's not being recognized by the router on the storage tab of the router admin pages. I don't have a home network but I have 2 machines and a printer connected through the router. (no software firewalls at all) 1) 3Ghz Core2duo w/XP-SP3 wired through one of the gigabit ports 2) Dell Inspiron 1720 w/Vista Home Premium 32bit-SP1 connected wirelessly on the 2.4 GHZ band (g) 3) HP 6980dt printer setup wirelessly on an internal IP (both machines can connect to it). Everything is using WPA2 Do I need to setup a network to get it to work? (i.e. install file & printer sharing or client for microsoft networks) Are there any services that absolutely need to be running? I've tweaked a few of them (disabling tcp/ip netbios helper being one of them) - uPNP is enabled. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time. The Storage Link on the WRT600N does not work properly. It corrupts files, has file size limitations, and is incompatible with some backup programs. It has also been known to have issues maintaining connectivity. I gave up after a week of trying...obviously, YMMV.

  • How to enable disk use on iTunes 11.0.3.42?

Is this option still available or has it been removed in this version?
I connected my ipod and all , went to Summary> scrolled down to Options> and the check box is no longer there

There is no disk mode for an iPod touch or other iOS device.

  • How can I uncheck "Enable disk use" in iTunes for my iPod? The option is grayed out, and permanently checked.

When I plug in my iPod Nano (6th generation) and launch iTunes, the device appears in the sidebar as normal, but the option to check or uncheck "Enable Disk use" in the Summary pane for the iPod is grayed out. Currently, the box is checked, so "Enable disk use " is turned on -- but what I want to do is UNcheck it and turn it off.
But nothing I've tried so far has successfully ungrayed the "Enable disk use" box. Help!
Question: How can I ungrey the "Enable disk use" option in my iPod's Summary panel in iTunes, allowing me to uncheck it?
Alternately, is there any other way to turn off "Enable disk use," using some esoteric workaround? Thanks!

Set it to sync automatically. Disabling that option isn't possible for an iPod set to sync manually, as it shows up as a disk as part of the sync process, and iTunes has no way of knowing when you're done syncing an iPod set to do so manually.

  • How to enable "Enable Disk Use" function on itunes 10.7

You need to use iTunes, iCloud, or another product specifically designed to work with iOS devices.

  • How do you enable disk use?

cant find that option in itunes..thansk

With the iPod docked, select it on the sidebar in iTunes. Click on the "Settings" tab, and click on the "Enable disk use" check box. (I'm assuming that works on Windows the same as for me on my Mac.)

  • IPod appears on Desktop - enable disk use checked, greyed-out

Each of my daughters has a video iPod--
The "white" one - about 11 months old, now appears on the desktop when connected. iTunes opens, but the choice "enable disk use" is greyed-out, i.e. I cannot un-check this, and each time the iPod icon appears on the desktop.
The "black" iPod-- just a few days old, but essentially the same video iPod-- it does NOT appear on the desktop, and the "enable disk use" writing is NOT greyed-out, i.e. we could "check" this if we wanted.
How to get the "white" iPod to no longer appear on the desktop? I have tried resetting it, but that doesn't seem to change anything.
Also-- is there a reason why this appears on the desktop, and is that a limiting factor for any reason-- or a problem? Really just trying to understand this!
    Thanks for any comments.

If the iPod is set to sync manually, the enable disk use checkbox will always be on, as iTunes doesn't know when you will be done transferring content to the iPod and ready to unplug it. The iPod will appear on a Mac's desktop while iTunes is syncing it or waiting for you to transfer content to it, or when disk use is explicitly enabled and the iPod is plugged in to the computer.

  • "Enable Disk Use" checkbox is grayed out, can't untick.

    Hi,
I just got my new iPod 30 GB video today! I've been reading these discussions, but haven't found an answer for this tiny problem of mine.
"Do Not Disconnect" constantly shows on the iPod screen when it's connected on the computer. Many have suggested ticking off "Enable Disk Use", but here's the problem: it's grayed out, and I can't change it, no matter what. I've gone through iTunes prefs, by right-clicking on the iPod in iTunes and selecting "iPod Options". My system seems to show iPod as a movable disk, but iTunes recognises it and I can easily put music into it, so I guess that isn't a problem (or is it?).
But how could I get my hands on the "Enable Disk Use" checkbox? It just isn't "tickable" now.
    Thanks!

If you have your iPod set to manual update, the "Enable Disk Use" box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely remove Hardware icon or check this link: "Disconnecting iPod from your computer
    " http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61135
    For Info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • [] Enable Disk Use won't work

I have tried changing my iPod options to Enable Disk Use, but whenever I go back to see the options it remains unchecked and my ipod drive won't show up in windows explorer.
Do I have a faulty iPod?. Also I have noticed that if I disable Art Work it still keeps showing album covers when I play music on my ipod, and when I go back to the options again it keeps the Art Work checkbox checked.
I have even restored my iPod see if that would do the trick but it's helpless. Can someone please help me out?

    hi y'all
(sorry pac and CoJeff ... i'm jumping on the pile)
One more thing, when I check the "Enable Disk Use" checkbox and then I right click on my ipod and click on Update, I get this error saying: "The ipod 'iPod' can't be updated. The Disk can not be Read from or Written to"
that may well be relevant. the ipod itunes preferences are mostly stored on the ipod (which is how an ipod in manual mode on one PC can stay in manual mode when it is connected to a different one). so if you're getting a connection problem like that, it could cause problems getting the ipod preference changes to stick.
so as well as pac's suggestion (which is a known cause of your message), try checking on the other possibilities in this document:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
    love, b

  • Enable disk use to load songs from ipod to computer?

I have music from a desktop and am trying to put all of that music onto my laptop by enableing the disk use. All of the songs are already stored on my ipod. I tried to press "enable disk use" but it is gray and already checked. Plus I already have "manually mange songs and playlists" checked so shouldn't this mean that i can go into file>import>mycomputer and then find my ipod and click on the music files? i know i did this before but I am lost now.
Thank you in advance for your time and help!

the itunes on my desktop at home is registered to my brother's ipod. does this make a difference on how to transfer the songs?
i'm going to tread cautiously here, because there's a couple of different things that you might be thinking of.
if you mean "your brother's ipod is associated with the library on the old PC", then that wouldn't affect the transfer of the song files at all. all that means is that that library on that PC is the only one that his ipod will automatically update from.
if you mean "some of the songs i'm going to move were purchased through his itunes music account, and are authorised to play on that PC", then that wouldn't affect the transfer of the song files. but the first time you played them on the new PC, you'd be asked to authorise that PC for them. that would either take up one of his five authorisations (but you'd be allowed to play them), or, if he's already got them authorised on five different PCs, you wouldn't be able to play them (because you wouldn't be able to authorise them).
for more information of Music Store authorisations, see:

  • Is enable disk use on iPod Touch possible?

I need to copy the content on my 16GB 2nd gen. iPod Touch back to my computer which was lost with a HD failure. All of the programs I found that will copy content from iPod to computer need to have "enable Disk Use" checked. I do not have that option listed in iTunes device page. Encrypt backup is where the disk use should be.
Windows 7 shows my Touch as a camera and does not display any files except a picture that is not able to view, even with display all files checked in folder properties. I have installed a few different programs, but they do not "see" the Touch. It does see my iPod video using the same wire to the computer. What can I do, or am I hosed?

If you do a search here others have given links to people in this situation to third party programs that can take info from an ipod touch and place it onto a PC.
I don't have any experience of any of them to know how reliable they are .. which is why people say that backing up is best .. but, some people have posted saying that they have had success with returning information from their ipods to their PC's using them

  • Why can't I enable disk use on my Ipod touch?

I wish to use my ipod touch as an external hard-drive. I have watched videos on how to go about it and they show that there is a greyed out check box that must be checked. This check box does not exist for me. Why not? and is it possible to enable disk use?
MY ipod is an ipod touch 4th generation, 8gb, ios 6.1.6
    Itunes version - 11.1.5

You just be looking at instructions for the older iPods. None of the iOS devices such as the iPod touch have ever supported disk use. There are third-party utilities that purport to provide workarounds to allow such use, but I have no experience with any of them so I can't make any recommendations.
    Regards.

  • Can't find 'Enable Disk Use' with iTunes 9 on my iPod Touch

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch, and need to enable disk use, but can no longer find the option in iTunes 9! Can somebody please tell me how to do this? Thanks.
EDIT: Just found out that the iPod touch doesn't support disk use... Although I've found a hack that makes it work, Thanks anyway.
